Can I install an additional SSD? [Logitech G5 Inspiron] Posted: 31 Mar 2020 02:31 PM PDT So my specific laptop model only has a 256 GB SSD, and it's too little for me at the moment. My laptop is this model and I am wondering if it has space in it to add an additional SSD. I am not that hardware savvy, so if anyone more well informed could help out, I would appreciate it. Laptop cooling pad insight/experience needed: Cooler Master Notepal Ergostand Lite Posted: 31 Mar 2020 02:30 PM PDT
Hello! I use a Lenovo Yoga 920 as my primary computer, and particularly for illustration work. When I load up Krita (my art software of choice), temperatures jump from about 120°F (~49°C) to about 160°F (~71°C) and things start slowing down, even though my CPU usage is only bumped up to about 50%. Part of this is absolutely because I use it on my bed—yes, yes, I know, you're not supposed to do that with a laptop, but let's just say there are circumstances at the moment that preclude me from using my desk. Down the line I'll be able to, but right now I cannot. Another part of the problem, as far as I can tell, is that when I fold the laptop over to use the tablet screen to draw on, the heat doesn't dissipate as nicely—the actual cooling vents are less obstructed (as far as I can tell), but the ambient heat has less room to escape. That's what it seems like based on my observations, at least. As such, I've been looking at cooling pads. I know simply putting something under my laptop would make a big difference, like a hunk of wood or something similar, but I've been looking into cooling pads because I'm not sure I have a suitable object to put it on, and because I imagine it might make some degree of difference on top of it, given that I'm sort of pushing this poor laptop beyond what it was meant to do (were external GPUs less expensive, I'd get one!). After a good bit of perusing various subreddits, I've found that Cooler Master apparently makes good laptop cooling pads! I looked through their offerings and ended up on the Notepal Ergostand Lite—it looks pretty solid, and the ability to adjust its angle makes it appealing to me for once I am able to use a desk, as having the laptop's tablet screen at an angle with a fairly solid backing would make drawing there easier, since I don't have an adjustable desk. I was hoping to see if anyone on here has any experience with this particular cooling pad before committing to a purchase. In the meantime, I'm going to try and find something around the house that I can put under it—a hardcover book, maybe? Thanks in advance for any valuable input, and apologies if this is the wrong subreddit for something like this! [link] [comments]

Can anyone recommend me a decent laptop for under £200? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 01:58 PM PDT Hi guys. Because of the coronavirus outbreak in the UK, my mum needs to work from home but doesn't have a laptop. She has a budget of £200. Can anyone recommend one for around this price? Thanks for the help in advance. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Mar 2020 06:28 PM PDT I'm taking graphic design, and have a particular interest in trying animation for YouTube (like FlashGitz, Roger Van Der Weide, Piemation, etc.) I'm not stupid enough to drop everything and fully jump into it as a career, but would be happy if it grew into that. If not, I'm hoping graphic design can be a decent career for me. I like creating things, and want to be able to work from my own home, not dealing with ridiculous corporate rules, inconsistent hours/schedules, and ugh, being forced to deal with people. I'd prefer to not have to drop $1,500-$2,000 on a laptop just starting out though, but I'm willing, and able to spend over $1,000. It doesn't have to be a powerful gaming machine, as I don't plan on even having much if any time for that, but I'd assume a laptop that can dk what I need would have at least decently good gaming power. I don't understand too much about computers, other than what marketing tells me that it's good for. I need to be able to draw on it too! Thank You! [link] [comments]
For the love of God please give me recommendations on a laptop to buy for $1000 or less... Posted: 31 Mar 2020 12:49 PM PDT I've been searching for a decent laptop to replace my old-ass Asus X550C for almost a month now but so many 'official' review sites give wildly different ratings for laptops. I'm not too fussy but ideally I would like some combination of:
I hope this doesn't seem too needy but I'm kinda desperate at this point to just be pointed in some kind of direction. I will mostly be using it for working with some mid-level CPU-use software and I'd also very much like to play Civ 6 on it. Really appreciate any pointers, thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Mar 2020 12:39 PM PDT I have 2 laptops and they both have 4gb of ram. I took the ram out of the old laptop and put it in the newer one. It booted up, it says that the is 8gb of ram, but can the laptops crash if I use it like that? Is it bad for the laptop or is it ok to use? New ram: PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM SODIMM 204 pin memory. (1600Mhz) Old ram: PC3L-12800 1600Mhz DDR3L SDRAM SO-DIMM 204-pin The only difference is pc3l-12800 and pc3-12800. Does that make any difference? [link] [comments]

Senior in high school looking to buy a laptop for college Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:38 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
About $2000USD (if its slightly over, I think it wont be an issue, but aim for 2k)
No
Battery Life is important since it has to be at least 10+ hours of life while being used (not just sitting there), and good performance is a must because I want to do light gaming, graphic design, and video editing work (all hobbies of mine). A 2-1 is preferred because I like the ability to notetake without paper but still writing, and like the ability to draw, and it needs to be durable as it has to last 4+ years without breaking.
Adobe Photoshop/Premiere Pro, Rocket League is the most intense game I want to play on it.
Rocket League is the most intense game, preferably 60 fps, graphic settings are not an issue but preferably the default settings if possible (just so Im not stressing about being on the lowest bc I have to)
I wrote a whole essay post asking about this before seeing this form and deleting the post, but anyone who helps, could you please either link the computer or put general specs in your answer? Also, I would very much prefer a new laptop, which in my head means anything released or being released from October 2019 to about mid June 2020. Thanks for whatever help I get! I really appreciate it. [link] [comments]
Timetec RAM - how does it handle laptop heat? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:37 AM PDT I'm upgrading my husband's RAM in his MSI GL73 because he plays Oxygen Not Included and has a reached a point where it's eating up all 8GB of the installed memory. Timetec is in our price range, 2x8GB 2666MHz for $85.99 CAD and actually in stock for shipping, but while I'm sure it meets the basics, I'm wondering about how it handles itself under laptop heats. Anyone have experience with this brand in a laptop? [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:36 AM PDT I have an HP pavilion 15t with a i78565U. My motherboard is 16gb (2x8gb) ddr4 RAMAXEL and the socket fits BGA1528. But I know that can't be it right? Need some advice for a laptop I'm planning to get. Posted: 31 Mar 2020 06:50 AM PDT For this laptop I am looking for one that has basic ports HDMI, USBC, and USB. For the tasks at hand I plan to do lots of emailing, uploading, typing and occasional gaming. For the games I just need something that can handle World of Warcraft, Minecraft, Wizard101, Civilization V, and the occasional fps game. I'm going for something that can do well here in these areas and not be Ott. Screen size 14-17 is fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Can An HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15 SSD be upgraded at home? Please help a noob in need! Posted: 31 Mar 2020 10:28 AM PDT So as the title suggests, I am not nearly as educated on computers as I would like to be. I primarily store a lot of Steam games, and it takes a considerable amount of space. I have already filled up my 256GB SSD, and it is time to move on to bigger things. Although, I am not quite sure what is compatible, where to buy it online, and how to install it. Ideally I would like to buy 1TB, I just really need a larger upgrade to hold my games. I play FarCry 5, TES SE, Gmod, Rust, Tomb Raider, Monster Hunter: World, etc... so they obviously take up a big chunk. Could I purchase an external hard drive and install my heavy games from Steam on there, connect to my pc and play? If I can do that, what adjustments do I need to make or drivers to install? If you could help me understand this a bit more, find a solution, and where to buy it, I would be eternally grateful! Thank you for taking your time to read this and I hope to hear back from someone. My specs are: HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15 Intel core i5-9300H Quad-core processor NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 8 GB DDR4 system memory 256GB SSD [link] [comments] |
