Windows Update gives more errors than updates! Posted: 13 Feb 2020 01:07 PM PST Over the years of working on many, many computers, I've noticed that it seems like going through the update process in Windows 7 seems to throw an error every time, at least once. Why does it seem like Microsoft can't even make updates work correctly for their own OS. And don't get me started on all the issues with Office. Why is a program made by Microsoft for an OS made by Microsoft one of the most problematic pieces of software? It's just very frustrating that almost every time a computer is slightly behind on updates, or even if I'm just doing the most recent updates, I have to look up and perform some stupid workaround to keep going through the updates. I'm glad it's not nearly as big of an issue in Windows 10. On a side note, now that I'm done venting, I keep getting Windows 7 Update error code 8024200D. Every fix online says to manually download the update from Microsoft's online catalogue, but even that fails to install. I also tried forcing it to recreate the SoftwareDistribution folder, but recreating that didn't resolve the issue either. If anybody has any ideas on that one, I'd love to hear them. Constant "Microsoft account problem" notifications! Posted: 13 Feb 2020 07:29 AM PST It seems like half of the time I start up and log onto my computer I get a notification that says "Microsoft account problem" "We need to fix your Microsoft account (most likely your password changed). Select here to fix it in Shared experiences settings." If I click it, it just has my re-enter my pin and then it says its fixed. Then it returns the next day!!! I want to stop this once and for all. Its so annoying. What can I do? I have already disabled Nearby Sharing and Share Across Devices, based on a google search which said that would fix it (it did not). [link] [comments]

my color and desktop background just reset, should i be worried? Posted: 13 Feb 2020 05:35 PM PST i was casually browsing reddit and closed my browser to log off for the day, then i noticed it switched from my desktop background to a base windmill image, and when i went to change it back in personalize, the few frames of the settings logo that show when it load up had a blue background instead of pink, should i be worried my computer is compromised? No Sound on Videos after Crash Posted: 13 Feb 2020 09:55 AM PST Hello. My PC crashed and now i have no sound on videos, no matter which player. I know WHY but not how to fix it. I don't know what the options are called in your language(my OS is german) but i will explain. Win 7(I know...) When i right click the speaker icon and click Playback devices a message pops up like "There is a problem with sound enhancing" Want to turn it off? Yes no. If i right click my Speakers then settings, there is a Tab called "Enhancesments(3rd Tab)" There is 2 Boxes. Deactivate all sound effects and instant mode? Usually only the 2nd is on but only if i turn the 1st one on to deavtivate i get sound in VLC/Other players. Windows sounds always work. How do i fix it so it's like always? The sound is a bit off like this. Edit: Discord suddenly detects the same devices as new a few times now too. [link] [comments]

How do i make programs start up in background on windows 10 Posted: 13 Feb 2020 10:23 AM PST I have this macro key program that i like to use to program a key on my numpad to do a specific thing like opening photoshop or something else. i really hate it alwasy being in a window and a "open progran" that takes space in the taskbar where i like to have many icons to click on so there is very little space when i have many folders open. I like it that way. Is there a way i can make it start up auto or manually and let it run "in the background"? so i wont be able see it anywhere, just being able to use it. [link] [comments]

Waking up Windows 10 Home Tablet without pressing the power button? Posted: 13 Feb 2020 07:40 AM PST I happen to own a Windows Tablet which is the Samsung Galaxy Book 10.6. Would like to wake the device without having to press the power button due to wear and tear. A doubletap like on my Tab S6 would be nice. Does anybody know a software that can accomplish this? PS: The Tablet has a light sensor as well. [link] [comments]

How the hell do I turn off the password prompt upon wakeup (Windows 10)? Posted: 13 Feb 2020 01:04 PM PST I've just spent over a half hour researching what should be a very simple thing online and searching Windows 10 settings and I've concluded that they're absolutely hiding this shit from people. All the tips I find online are from 2016 or 2017 and refer to those versions of Windows 10, and they point to settings that don't exist anymore in the 2019/2020 version of 10. I've also scoured the settings, and can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help? I just want to set it to not demand the password or PIN upon waking after sleep. [link] [comments]
Group Policy for password change doesn't work on windows 10 Posted: 13 Feb 2020 02:21 AM PST Hi All, I have an issue between my Domain Controller (Windows Server 2016 1907) and my Windows 10 clients (different version, but most of all they are .1909). In my LAN I have also Windows 7 clients, but it seems all is working good. So I need to create a Group Policy to force the password change to all my user in the OU "Office". First of all I learned the GP must be applied to the OU "ClientOffice" which contains Computer Objects instead domain users (as the OU "Office"), it's ok for me because I split office an production not only for users but also for the computer objects. I put 2 client in the OU "ClientOffice", one with Windows 7 and one with Windows 10. The client with Widnows 7 works, and the next day at the first login Widnows asked for a password change. The one with Windows 10 bypass the policy and nothing change. When I execute a gpresult /r on Windows I can't see Computer Settings section on Windows 10, instead on Windows 7 I see the section and also the policy applied. Is there something I can do to resolve this issue? maybe there are some hide settings I have to set up or something else, I really don't know :/ Thanks for anyone who can try to help me P.s.: Sorry for grammar errors, english is not my native langauge. Battery icon showing 0% battery Posted: 13 Feb 2020 12:47 PM PST Hi all, I have a problem with my laptop running Windows 10. It shows my battery is at 0% charge, but I am currently using it on battery power for roughly 30-40 minutes. At first I thought my battery was dead and needed replacement, since it "wouldn't charge", but now I'm beginning to think that Windows' detection of its charge is just broken. Does this sound like a familiar problem? More context: I turned on my laptop to quickly see my battery at being near full charge, and the system then shutting off shortly after. I couldn't get it to turn on without the power adapter, and even then it was some kind of a struggle. Eventually it finally booted, and now it seems like there are practically no problems using the battery, other than Windows saying it should be empty for over half an hour now. Also, Lenovo Vantage says my battery is in good condition, even though it also measures 0% charge. Could this have anything to do with the Windows update I installed last night? I uninstalled and reinstalled it already, to no avail. I really hope you can help me and I won't need to go through the hassle of warranty. Thank you in advance! Best, [link] [comments]
I dont understand why windows does this, anyone help? Posted: 13 Feb 2020 05:06 AM PST Ive noticed a consistant problem with windows and windows related games and apps. I did a fresh install of my OS last night with all my other drives unplugged as you do, installed windows on the fresh SSD, and was good to go, plugged everything back in and booted to windows and installed some of my other programs on my other drives, then i went to install forza horizon 4, i chose to install this game on my "Games and Essentials" D drive which is also another 500gb SSD. Now when i installed windows on the "Operating System" C drive, the free space left over from the install was around 99.1gb, i came back to my PC this morning to see if forza was done, it was, i then opened My PC and noticed the operating system ONLY drive had gone down to 70 something gigs free, why is this? I explicitly asked windows to install on my games and essentials drive only and it bugs the hell out of me that it has gone and installed some random rubbish on the operating system drive now too, i know i could just not be bothered by this but when you have OCD and you need everything to be in its correct place and order this is extremely infuriating. Ever since i moved to PC ive noticed problems like this with windows just sort of going "whatever, im just gonna do it my way, despite that you asked for something else" ive searched the C drive with hidden folders to find the culprit and you know whats really funny? nothing shows up, nothing, the entire size of the actual game is on the correct D drive so i havent a clue what is now taking up that random space on my c drive, i dont think its cache related either. If anyone could offer any insight on this as to why this happens and if theres any way to remedy it id be thankful. Id just like to also point out that games from steam, uplay or origin or whatever dont do this, its only windows related programs... surprise surpirse :/ EDIT: Looks like the problem was the Delivery Optimization Files thing, ive never seen that file so big before at 20 gigs, i just disabled that and ran disk clean up and got most of my space back. Posted: 12 Feb 2020 08:21 PM PST Hey everyone, I've been having a problem updating Windows 10 on my home built gaming PC. After countless scouring of the inter webs for fixes (/sfc, DISM scripts, troubleshooters, among other things), I haven't been able to install updates (KB4534132) and (KB4532693), which were both released earlier this year. Every time I try to update, I get an error (0x800f0900) saying that "there were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later." I have also been having random game crashes and frequent BSODs. I'm not sure if the two problems are related, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were. I'm not a real techie and I usually don't go digging around in my computer. If ain't broke, don't fix it, right? Well. Now it is broke. And I need to fix it! Any help would be appreciated, and I will attach needed troubleshooting files to this post upon request. [link] [comments] |
