Looking for an old android progress bar countdown app with widget, which you could give a start date and an end date then watch the bar slowly drains (like health bars in fighting games).

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 12:26 AM PST

Hello guys, I'm just wondering if anyone could help me, I've spent more than a year (seriously) looking for an app I used to have via various ways but had no luck, I've browsed through my entire app history of my google account, checked all the emails from day one, all my notes and files looking for clues, looked through all the similar apps on playstore using various keywords and and even looked on google search with various criteria... so this is my last resort.. :D

It's an goal/time countdown tracker which allow you to give a start date and an end date, and it has neat reverse progress bar widget which tells you how many days to go (reaches 0% upon completion), and I recall you can pick a cute tiny icon of a person doing something (not animated) at the right side of a the bar.

There are key point is to this app:
1.It was old (maybe before 2015?) and didn't have very high rating cos it had bugs (was like a 3.8).
2.The progress reminded me of health bars in fighting games but thinner, and it was tracked with percentage, not hr/min/sec.
3.It was developed by an group/company and not by an individual.
4.The name of the app doesn't resemble similar app names and terms such as "goals" "time trackers" "countdowns" "deadline" "progress" "habit" ...etc, this is another reason why I couldn't remember what's it called lol.
5.I remember the theme colour for the app been red
6.I often confuse this app with an app called "7 weeks", which is another goal tracking app which I used with this app back in the days.
7.It didn't have reminders or anything

I had fond memory of this app cos one of the tracker was when will I probably die, it gave me the motivation to do things and not fudge around whenever I look at my phone, as the bar was already 1/3 drained.

It would be nice to use this app once again ^^ thank you!

[DEV] : I made an android app that shows the most recent tweets around you!

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 09:33 AM PST

I just released this long-awaited project. I have been ignoring it for more than two years. But content with the finished product.

If you wanna see who's tweeting around you at that very second (irrespective of you following them or not), check out my android app. You don't need a twitter account to access the app. (Login as a guest). Oh and, keeping up with the trend these days, it has a dark mode!

Also, you can add up to 5 twitter handles as favorites for one-click access to their timelines.

Trust me, you can find some really unexpected stuff tweets around you using this app.

I am an independent developer. Let me know what do you think of the application and the idea. Any feedback/criticism is appreciated.

Download my app for your android phones! And leave a rating if you like it (or even if you don't). Cheers!

App to restrict all data except for Google Maps

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 10:01 AM PST

    Hey Guys,

Recently got me an upgrade and was hoping to use my old phone as a GPS display on the dashboard in the car. My plan was to hotspot data from my current phone so it can use it for traffic updates on Google Maps. I am just concerned about all the data it may use up to do other updates i don't want it to do thereby eating away at my data plan.

Is there an app that allows you to fully restict use of data on phone except for say Google Maps? I take it there are other background services that Google Maps will need that also require data. So don't want to block them if it'll affect traffic updates. Not sure how to proceed. Any suggestions?

Does Google Map no longer send alerts on traffic?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 06:23 AM PST

I used to get Alerts in the morning regarding my commute to work... i.e. " Your Commute to work will be 22 minutes today" or " Your Commute to work will be 30 minutes today ( 8 Minutes more than usual)"

I haven't gotten those in a while and wonder if it was a setting I shut off, or if Google Maps removed that feature. I do have my work address saved as work.

App to do short-timed phone silence

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 12:49 AM PST

I see an older thread that was inconclusive, and wonder if anyone have found something better yet.

I used to use "Silent Mode Widget" together with an add-on "Silent Mode+"; the add-on popped up a window that asked me when I wanted silent mode to be turned off. The timer thing does no longer work.

So have anyone found a good app for "timed" silencers? I see several that lets you set up and save scheduled silence periods, but nothing that just asks you when you want the sound to be back.

Is an Alternative to Chrome a Must? Are There far Better Browsers?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 04:52 AM PST

I have tried in the past to get away from using Chrome on Android simply because it's not the fastest and I didn't prefer it's already, but I consistently fall back into using it for one reason or another. Primarily because of the synching functions.

What am I missing out on by not using other apps? Are there any others that synch with the desktop version of Chrome that I'm unaware of?

Looking for a media app which supports long-form audio files with quality of life features.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 06:05 AM PST

If try to play an audiobook from MP3, most of my players are more suited to music. They don't save my position, and navigating through the audiobook is difficult because the UI is gauged towards shorter files.

    I would like:

    1. Automatic place saving.
    2. Skip forward/back 10s-30s
    3. Offscreen playback.
    4. Bookmarks.
    5. Library management.

    Any suggestions?

What would be the best automating app for my 2 Android devices and 3 locations/use cases?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 05:18 AM PST

Would like to automate my phone to automatically connect to the car when driving but preferably everywhere else turn off as many features as possible to save battery.

    2 devices:

    • Samsung phone with Wifi, Data, Bluetooth & NFC
    • Android car head unit with Wifi & Bluetooth turning on automatically, I connect to it with Bluetooth and tether Data net through Wifi when driving

    3 locations:

    • Home - preferably only Wifi connection turned on
    • Work - preferably only Data connection turned on
    • Car - automatic Bluetooth connection with phone and tethering through Wifi

I have NFC tags - Which is the best app and settings to use one in each location to cycle through Wifi/Data/BT+tethering? Could all 4 connection types Downside would be that NFC would need to be turned on all the time, except if some app could turn it off automatically at night and during day on workdays. Is there maybe a way to turn on NFC only if the phone is being used/moving/shaked? How much battery does it use?

    Alternatively:
Bluetooth triggering could only solve the car, but automatic Wifi/Data at Home/Work would not be solved.
A third solution could be some geofenced triggering but I find that the most questionable.

App for creating homescreen shortcuts into specific pages in other apps?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 02:22 PM PST

For example, if I have a news app installed that doesn't offer its own widgets for this purpose, is there an app that can create a homescreen shortcut/widget that then boots said app and takes me to a specific category page?
