    Cast to android?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 08:35 PM PST

Can someone recommend the best solution or program (app) for me? I want to cast my windows 10 laptop display to my android phone (android 10 on galaxy s10+) so I can use my phone as a display for games or videos and use my wireless keyboard and mouse . I know there are many "remote desktop" solutions out there but these usually have poor frame rate and I am not looking to control the computer with the phone. Thanks.

Is anyone having an absolutely insane issue with their contacts?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 05:12 PM PST

I've got what seems to be a permanent issue with my contacts where they are duplicated hundreds of times each and even when I merge them automatically, they simply re-create, or they simply never merge.

I started with over 8000, and now it's down to 3,500, but I have no idea what's gone on in the meantime to get the number down even a bit.

I've never had the issue in the past, and I can't "fix" it by merging duplicates - either manually or automatically, in my phone or my Google account on my PC.

I haven't really changed anything with my phone. I've rebooted a few times. No idea what's going on.

Of note, I noticed the issue first when I connected my phone to my wife's car via bluetooth and it said that there were too many contacts to import, which confused me, then earlier today when I was scrolling through my contacts on my Google Hub I noticed every contact had a few hundred entries. Thought it was a bug with Hub until I noticed my phone was backing up "8,750 contacts".

Not seeing references to this happening to anyone else. Tried checking Reddit and Twitter - no dice.

Of note, I'm pretty careful with what I download and install, so I can't imagine that this would be an intentional attack,

    Any ideas?

Edit: Well, so far I figured it out. Apparently the changes were taking a ton of time to propagate across my contacts, so after a few "merges", I was able to finish the rest off by merging contacts individually until I had none left. Booting up my phone in a moment, so hopefully It'll stick.

Alarms not working after OS update

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:38 PM PST

Sorry if this is not an appropriate place for this type of question, but i don't know where else to ask.

I use a alarm up called ultrachron that has stopped working after an android update...

The particle feature that stopped working after the update was the alarm sounding after i minimized the app and used another up.

What would happen before the update was i would set and alarm and then i would use another app then after the alarm sounded it would bring me back to the ultrachron alarm app.....

So here is my question... is there some new "feature" in the android OS that prevents this from happening???.

This same thing happened a few years ago and the only way i could fix it was to buy a new phone.......

Is there another place anyone could recamend getting support or information on this?

I have reinstalled the app and i have sent an email to the app makers support, but with no help.

    I have Android Verion 10, Build number QP1A. 190711.0200.

PS4 Controller has weird mappings - Android 8.1 - GeForce NOW

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:36 PM PST

I have GeForce NOW on my phone and thought I'd play with my PS4 controller. But the mapping is weird; i.e., X is Square, Square is X, Triangle is R1, and R1 is Start, et cetera. I thought I could just re-map it on Steam but that just makes it worse, as in, any change just reshuffles the entire scheme. Some of the games I want to play don't have the option to re-map the controls so that's a huge problem. I heard the issue is with Android 8.0/8.1 specifically and that updating it to Android 9.0 can fix the issue, but I have an LG Stylo 4 from Boost Mobile that I'm sure isn't getting an update and I've found no way to root it. Any alternatives available?

(android 9) how to change notifications to look like in android 6?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 06:32 PM PST

just changed my phone, i had android 6.

the notifications had the apps icon, with its color which made it easier to identify and where separated with a space, in android 9 everything is white with a little icon and name on top and all together...

is there any way to revert?

also when trying to see opened apps/tabs, it was vertical, so i could glance and see most apps opened, in android 9 is horizontal, so im force to swipe to see whats opened.

I tried their github page and downloaded a zip of the latest release. I didn't see any apks in the zip.

How can I update Signal without using any Google services?

messenger doesn't sort pictures by date

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 02:54 PM PST

Just got a new phone and transferred all files from my old phone to this one. Everything was going well until I opened messenger and I noticed a lot of old pictures were on top of the recent ones. New pictures also don't go on top, but are beneath those old pictures.

Other apps (instagram, whatsapp, facebook, reddit etc.) show my images in the right order, so it's really on messenger.

I've tried clearing cache, data, reinstalling, disable and enable permission to storage but it's still the same.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

SD card corrupt when formatting as adoptable (internal) storage

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 02:25 PM PST

I have had an sd card as an adoptable storage device with my Razer Phone 2 for a while, and just recently, it stopped recognizing my the sd card saying it was corrupt. I tried to reformat it on my pc, but that would not work. On the phone it would give this error message "Attempt to invoke virtual method 'java.lang.String android.os.storage.VolumeInfo.getId()' on a null object reference"

    I have tried

    1. factory resetting the phone, that didn't fix it
    2. formatting it as a portable storage device, and that did work, however when I tried formatting as adaptable storage it gave the same error.
    3. using an adb shell to format it, that didn't work.
    4. rooting the phone and using a root app to format it, that didn't work.
    5. using a different sd card that was also 256gb, that did not work.
    6. using an sd card that was 32gb that DID work, but it's a bit small storage-wise

I want to have it as local storage since I don't plan to remove it. Any suggestions are welcome.

WI-FI no longer turns on, and I need it for work in them morning.

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 12:53 PM PST

so I tried to turn the wi-fi on on my phone, I tapped the wifi button, and it just untapped itself a few seconds later, I tried again, same result, I press the button; it hovers in the connecting state for a few seconds, and then goes back to being off.

this is not a problem with a specific network i am trying to connect to, as without the ability to turn the wifi on no network login is possible.

bluetooth fails to connect in exactly the same manner, but the actual telephone functionality still works.

I have had this problem a few times before, but previously, turning my phone off and on again worked, but not this time, I have tried every method of turning my phone on and off again but nothing.

    Need wi-fi for work tomorrow

Phone I am using is a Samsung galaxy s4

Cheap Chinese Tablet comes with a cellphone android, How to change it?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 01:48 PM PST

Hi guys, first thanks for reading.

Basically, my loving wife gave me a very cheap android tablet for as a xmas gift so I could use it for very basic stuff ( majorly redditing, netflix on the go, reading pdfs and editing simple text files).

The model is ( Jlinksz tk-e101gc, android 7.0 and ASIN B07WD2DQCF ) . It is quite a decent tablet, especially for its price, but it have a flaw that is bothering me quite a bit: it seems that it is running a cellphone android instead of a tablet one.

I say this because the way the settings are disposed is exactly like in a cellphone, just one column for everything. All apps that I download use the cellphone version and not the tablet one, not to mention that the resolution of the home screen is very low.

The tablet is quite powerful for its price: CPU info confirmed it have4 604hz cores, 4 gigs of ram and so on.

It would be quite a decent tablet, but it insists on behaving like a cellphone. Is there any way to fix that? At least forcing the apps to install their tablet versions?

If the only way to fix is root, could someone point me out to a good non-adware way of doing it?

    Thanks a lot.

How do I get Audiobooks bought on iTunes onto my Android phone?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 11:55 AM PST

Hi! I've had my Android phone for a while now, and am super happy to be done with apple and iTunes. I've even gifted my old iPad to my sister.

Trouble is, I spent a ton of money of good audiobooks on iTunes that were on my iPad. They probably still are but my sister lives in a different state from me.

Is there a way I can get my audiobooks downloaded onto my Android or my Windows laptop and still be able to listen to them?

There are a bunch so ideally I would put them all on my Windows laptop, then to a hard drive, and then move one or two to my Android phone at a time.

It took me forever to reset my stupid apple password since I didnt have any devices left on my person to reset them with. But I do have it available now. I do not want to pay for Apple Music monthly subscription, idk if that affects anything.

Please help 🙏🏻 and thank you in advance for any advice 😊

Facebook Messenger settings file - location

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 10:37 AM PST

Hi, i want to ask, what's the location to the file responsible for Messenger's settings? I want to mute/unmute app (there's setting for it inside Messenger) on certain conditions (via Tasker) and for that i need somehow enable/disable that setting automatically. So as easiest way i found shell command, googled it but nothing found. Other way is to find file that is responsible for that setting.

I was in internal menu but without luck.

    App version: 250

    Android version: 9 Pie

    State: Rooted

Galaxy S9+ touch screen stopped working after android update.

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 10:30 AM PST

Had a message this morning saying an update was available. I used my phone for a little bit like normal, texting and checking news, then tapped to update it. Phone restarted like normal and started doing it's thing saying it was updating with the little loading bar. Nothing out of the ordinary.

After it finished it rebooted and went to the screen asking for my pattern to log in. Zero response to any touches, but the volume keys and power button work fine.

So far I've restarted the phone, booted into safe mode, and did a factory reset and still no luck. I sent a help request to Samsung and I'm waiting to hear back on that currently.

I feel like it has to be software/firmware related because it worked fine until I did the update, but with the factory reset not fixing the problem it seems like something electrical is going on.

Is there a way to manually try and reload android onto the phone via PC or SD card before I consider cracking the phone open?

Forcefully changing default home app help.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 09:57 PM PST

    Hello everyone.

Due to some unfortunate work conditions, I have to use a crappy non-camera Android phone. This phone is called the sgINO6s running Android 9 with some version of Aurora launcher by default.

I want to change the launcher to be by default Lawnchair v2, since that is what I use on my main phone. Unfortunately as you can see in the picture(link below) there is no "home" option in the default apps section of the phone settings. I have tried multiple apps as well that "change" your launcher but they still don't default it to said launcher.

It's very frustrating manually enabling the launcher through its icon and going back to Aurora whenever I accidentally click the home button. Please help me and thanks :)

AirPods are quiet on my Xiaomi phone after pairing with an iPad.

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 10:16 AM PST

Hi. I bought Airpods and used it with my Xiaomi phone without a problem.

Then I paired the Airpods with my Ipad and the sound is very quiet.

Do you know how to fix it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyNryiXFqtI - This video says I have to to turn a feature called Media Volume Sync on, but there's no such thing on Xiaomi phones. Do you know any other way to fix this problem?

Will be grateful for any help!
