Posted: 09 Feb 2020 07:57 AM PST Stardock software products have this notice at the bottom right of their Steam Store pages:
Examples: https://store.steampowered.com/app/912170/Groupy/?curator_clanid=28974 https://store.steampowered.com/app/620050/Start10/?curator_clanid=28974 https://store.steampowered.com/app/607380/Fences/?curator_clanid=28974 However, this is currently misleading/outdated, since their official EULA was changed in 2019: https://www.stardock.com/support/software-eula
Confirmed in: https://forums.stardock.com/486311/accounts-and-activation-support-faq#pcinstalls It used to be 5 in 2018 and earlier: https://forums.stardock.com/491695/page/1/#3730708 https://forums.stardock.com/482560/page/1/#3673658 https://forums.stardock.com/490201/page/1/#3721863 Stardock did not communicate this change clearly and their users are fucking pissed as evidenced by the Activation category in their forum: https://forums.stardock.com/forum/1172 It seems they are doing this because they want to start selling their products as a yearly subscription instead of just an app, which they barely make clear on the Object Desktop page: https://forums.stardock.com/496381/object-desktop-subscription---shady-business-practices So Steam really needs to update Stardock's product pages, since Who only uses 1 computer in 2020? Win7 sudden permission problems writing Program Files (x86) Posted: 09 Feb 2020 05:28 PM PST Edit: it seems win7 changed permissions on Program Files (x86), and I can't change the current permissions; I'm - an admin - blocked from changing permissions. The fuck ? Edit2: SOLUTION! In case anyone runs into this issue; you need to force away ownership from "trusted installer" (or similar). Go to r-click -> properties on the folder, Security tab, 'Advanced' button. (opens new window) In the new windows, go to "owner" tab, and edit btn (opens yet another new window) In this window select your user to be the owner, then change permissions as you wish. -Phew- -Time to switch off all windows updates, defender, etc, all the crap they can use to fuck with you. And remember this; Microsoft is trying to force their will on the users. If this is not a reason to change O/S then nothing is; you'll be a sheep in microsoft land, because under win10 you'll have even less freedom. ---- orig post----- I'm getting problems from a couple of programs trying to write the folder: Program Files (x86) (actually something under this folder - each proggy is trying to access their own directory, which used to work) Now, since I've had the "can't shut down your computer" problem earlier, too, I've employed the fix listed in that thread. That solved the shutdown only. Then I've gone and un-installed the latest win7 updates, but this did not solve this issue. Weirdest thing is the problems only started today, not last week when these updates got installed. Anyone has any ideas what to touch? Thanks heaps! [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 11:00 AM PST Idk why, but whenever I start up my pc (windows 10), sometimes command prompt pops up for a bit before closing itself. Is this normal? If so, how do I prevent it from happening? [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Feb 2020 02:29 PM PST Basically if I launch any software that's made with C++ it spits out an error that it can't find VCOMP140.dll and a few others and won't start. I tried reinstalling Visual C++. How do I fix this bug? No, I'm not going to download the file outright, and no, I don't care if this is frequently posted [link] [comments]

Error 0x80004005 when trying to open AsusSetup.exe Posted: 09 Feb 2020 01:55 PM PST I recently built a new pc keeping only the ssd from my old dell pc. I've had it for a week now. Every thing has been working fine except I can't download asus aura sync and some microsoft apps. When I try to run the AsusSetup.exe program I get a message that says: Error Number: 0x80004005 Description: Unspecified error Setup will now terminate. Everything else in my pc works fine except for this. I've looked around online for some answers but so far nothing has worked. [link] [comments]

Help! How do I get my windows computer to let me sign in? Posted: 09 Feb 2020 09:52 AM PST Alright, so my computer when you turn it on turns on like normal. It gets stuck at the turn on screen, and won't let me get to the login screen, so I stuck looking at the background. (http://imgur.com/gallery/RYgliRj) Here's a picture of what I'm talking about. Windows 10 laptop won't go into hibernate, eventually BSODs Posted: 09 Feb 2020 11:58 AM PST Laptop: MSI GT73RE Titan (Windows 10 Pro x64 1909) GeForce GTX 1070 As of recently (last week) will not go in to hibernate. After a restart, it usually will the first time or two. But after that, the screen will shut off, the power and GPU buttons will still be lit, and the PC will effectively hang. After 5 minutes or so, the PC will shut off. When you turn it back on, it is indeed booting up from a cold boot. nothing that I had open was saved. I have disabled virtually everything that was running at startup. I've disabled any third party modifications . I have run SFC scannow and repaired/restarted, I've checked and troubleshot power settings. I ran CHKDSK/f, restarted. I never use Fast Startup (and double checked it), so that's irrelevant. Nothing works. I checked Event Viewer, and get a "Windows failed to resume from hibernate with error status 0XC00000001" error. I Googled that, but didn't come across anything especially helpful, besides the "Probably a driver causing it" response. The timestamp is 5 minutes after I attempted hibernate. This would indicate that it fails to enter hibernate after five minutes, and BSODs. But this is all with the screen having shut off, so I don't see it. I ran whoCrashed, and the most recent crashes indicate the same error: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE in the NTOSKRNL.EXE file. It is coming from the kernel, of course. I will post the output here, but it does not indicate any specific hardware driver that is causing it. just a generic kernel panic. This week, I've had both an NVidia GeForce driver update, and a Windows update on this PC. I clean uninstalled, and reinstalled a previous NVidia driver, but that didn't work. And the WhoCrashed analysis said that no offending third party drivers were found. I was wondering if anyone had any other advice, or knew of this problem. WhoCrashed output:On Sat 2/8/2020 16:57:22 your computer crashed or a problem was reported crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\020820-7046-01.dmp This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x1C14E0) Bugcheck code: 0x9F (0x3, 0xFFFFC00F6AA55060, 0xFFFFE3069123F7B0, 0xFFFFC0005A46BDE0) Error: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System company: Microsoft Corporation description: NT Kernel & System Bug check description: This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state. MAC Spoofing issue in Windows 10 Posted: 09 Feb 2020 07:31 AM PST I remember back in Windows XP days that it was possible to change the MAC address of the WLAN card irrespective of the allowed driver configuration. This stopped being the case on Windows Vista and later version of Windows and was only allowed if the driver's configuration allowed it. Anyway, due to one device policy in my college's wireless network I have to clone my phone's MAC in my laptop and it isn't allowed by my card. The only workaround i am using is to run a Ubuntu server VM on Virtual Box, attach a USB WLAN card to the VM, change the MAC and then share the internet from guest to host (Windows) using Host Only Network adapter. It works flawlessly but I have to spare around 400 MB of RAM for this purpose. Anybody here knows a better alternative? [link] [comments]
Windows Error 0x80090010 & Other Issues Posted: 09 Feb 2020 10:50 AM PST Recently my PC has not been working properly in various different ways. I am unable to set a PIN when I sign in to my computer, and all i get is error 0x80090010. I am unable to reset my PC. Every time I try to reset it, it just says there was an issue resetting. Not able to login to any Xbox apps or install anything from the Windows store. My discord is hyrrax#0097 if you would be interested in helping me solve my issues. Thx. [link] [comments]
[Question] I need help with installing Games for Windows Live on Windows 10 Posted: 09 Feb 2020 07:03 AM PST So a while back I started getting into the Fallout series, mainly Fallout 4 and Fallout: New Vegas. I play both games on Steam on a Windows 10 operating system. I have Fallout 3 in my Steam library, so I've finally decided to play it. Unfortunately, I need the program "Games for Windows Live" to do so. I tried to install it, but the install failed and apparently "a network error occurred while trying to get information for the server." The screen gave me a link to the support page, but when I clicked the link, it just turned out to be the homepage for the Xbox website. I want some actual help/support on solving this issue, so I came here. If any of you would be willing to help me with my install of Games for Windows Live or provide so instructions, please do so. I would be grateful for your help [link] [comments]
Missing Battery estimated time on Windows 10. (question) Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:55 PM PST So the time estimation of my laptop battery on widows 10 is gone. I've tired looking up the fix, but none of the solutions work for me. I currently have "EnergyEstimateEnabled" (Hexadecimal 1) in my registry editor. Both "UserEnergyEstimator" and "EnergyEstimateDisabled" are not there. This is really bugging the heck out of me, it used to be there now its just gone! Any help would be appreciated. :) [link] [comments]
Windows 7 stuck in System Restore Loop Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:49 PM PST So I have this Dell Latitude E6520 running 7 Pro x64, and in the process of trying to restore windows I have become stuck in a system restore loop where the computer boots to the system restore splash page where I can start the restore, launch command line, or exit and restart. If I start the restore then the progress bar creeps along and when it's done it restarts the computer but instead of asking me to create a new account it takes me back to the system restore page. I can get into the BIOS using F12 but any time I've tried to use F8 the Advanced Boot Options page flashes on the screen almost as fast as you can blink and then it continues on to attempt a normal boot (but ends up in system restore). As far as I know F8 has never worked and in an attempt to try something new I went into system configuration and under the boot tab selected windows restore as the default which is how I got stuck in this loop I believe. What can I do to get this computer back on track? [link] [comments] |
