Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:08 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $1000 to $2000, Bulgaria Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs for money How important is weight and thinness to you? Preferably low in weight, thinness doesn't matter. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Must be 17 inches or more Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming, the latest games like Red Dead or GTA and what not. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Nier Automata, with absolutely no loss in FPS in highest settings possible. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? No such requirements. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This post was made by me for someone else that has an obsession with wanting to play Nier Automata and a good deal of games with as high FPS possible. Me nor the individual in question play games regularly. The individual is not tech savvy and the primary concern is the size of the screen. It must be 17 inches or more. Should I get Acer Swift 3 with i5 1035g1 or wait on AMD? Posted: 08 Feb 2020 01:19 AM PST I need to buy a new laptop and I think the new Acer Swift 3 14'' i5 1035g1 (Acer Swift 3 SF314-57 review (2020 model, Core i5-1035G1 IceLake) is ideal for me. However, after seeing some reviews online I came to second guess myself. Mainly because some reviewers are talking great about the new AMD 4000 mobile series that is to come in the first quarter of the year. I must add that the i5 is already available at my country (Portugal) with a release price of 799€ (although I could get it at 679€ this weekend). Do you think is worth the 679€? Should I wait for the Acer Swift with the new AMD processor? Will the Swift with the AMD cheaper? Do you have another suggestion? I will basically use it for uni, browsing, and watching movies. I'm looking for a light laptop. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Please help me decide on a laptop Posted: 08 Feb 2020 04:20 AM PST I've been saving up for the past 6months to buy a good laptop. And I have a budget of 1100$. I was eyeing so many laptops for the past 2 weeks. But couldn't decide on one. I almost bought a HP Omen 15, but there are lot of complaints about overheating. Also I am considering Lenovo Legion Y540, So please help me on this [link] [comments]

Video/Photo Editing w/ a bit of gaming laptop $1000~ Posted: 08 Feb 2020 12:31 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: USD1000 ~ Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I would prefer a battery life to last me the whole day, considering I would be watching videos, browsing the web, editing photos. How important is weight and thinness to you? I would really love it if it could be thinner/lighter than an XPS 15 9560 Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13" would be ideal, but no bigger than 15" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Photo & Video editing mostly. Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom, AE. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Dota 2, LoL, Rocket League @ 60fps hopefully. But number 1 priority to run smoothly is FFXIV. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? SD card reader would be awesome, other than that not really. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I've been looking at the HP Envy 13t w/ the MX250. It has all the boxes checked except for the fact I cannot find a video or review regarding its performance with the games I mentioned above. Thank you! [link] [comments]

Help choosing between Acer and HP Posted: 08 Feb 2020 03:53 AM PST The the models I'm choosing between are the HP PAVILION 14-CE3501NA and the Acer Swift 3 SF314. If anyone could give an opinion on either brand it would be appreciated. Also, HPs website, it says that their laptop has 8gb of RAM in single channel. It doesn't say anything for the Acer, is it also single channel? [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:50 AM PST Looking to upgrade my main machine, my HP Elitebook 8470p. I usualy use my laptop for gaming (CS:GO; LoL; Terraria; Minecraft and maybe a bit of Rainbow Six Siege) and InDesign (an adobe software that is used for magazines). I usualy play at low settings. A ssd woud be nice but i can change it later so not a deal breaker. My buget woud be about 350€. I'm sorry if the formating isn't great but I'm on mobile. [link] [comments]

Help choosing between 2 CPU / graphics card combinations? Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:43 AM PST System 1: Intel Celeron N4000 processor + Intel HD Graphics 620 System 2: Intel Celeron 4205U processor + Intel UHD Graphics 610 I took a look at some benchmark tests and it appears system 2 has the better processor. Unfortunately I couldnt find Intel UHD Graphics 610, only found Intel HD Graphics 610 and Intel HD Graphics 620 for benchmarks so not sure how the 2 graphics cards compare. Does anybody know how the 2 graphics cards compare? And also how the 2 systems compare overall in terms of running games? I realise these aren't 'gaming machines', but will likely play some (much) older games on them. Any advice appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments]

$1800 NZD/$1200 USD laptop for schoolwork that will last me a few years Posted: 07 Feb 2020 10:39 PM PST
$1800 NZD, which is about $1200 USD, but because things are much more expensive over here a $1800 NZD laptop might only cost $1000 USD.
Don't need a 2 in 1, as for battery life I would like something that can last me through the day with moderate use. Would like something with no big compromises.
I would like something light, however not at the compromise of build quality or battery life.
Windows 10
13-15" would be ideal
Only really want to play light games such as CS GO with medium settings at a playable framerate.
As stated above, probably just light games like CS GO at low/medium settings 60fps.
Just want a good laptop that will last me for a few years for schoolwork, would like a 256gb SSD at least in it too. No need for an optical drive or heaps of ports, however a fingerprint reader or Windows Hello would be great. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Intel vs AMD Nitro 5 or alternatives - Entry level gaming [750 Canadian] Posted: 07 Feb 2020 02:30 PM PST
Two configs available right now for the Nitro 5:
Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this but they're very similar systems, Intel has the Optane but a slower HDD. According to the Anandtech Review the Intel has a higher TDP which would mean better CPU/single core performance (important for KSP) but the AMD would get better battery life. Neither GPU will set the world alight but they're both fine for my needs although the Nvidia probably slightly wins out. $60 difference could go towards an extra stick of RAM or an SSD although I think there's only a 30 day warranty on the Cheaper/Open Box (need to confirm that before purchasing) I've read Ryzen is hobbled with single channel memory - is this true? Is it more of a big deal when you use the iGPU? Should I be planning on adding extra RAM before an SSD in either case? Would love some input on this decision, or if anyone knows of a competing system to throw in the mix. I have read that the build quality is better on the Nitro series than the ASUS TUF series which is why I haven't included it here although, again, feel free to correct me on that. Thanks [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Feb 2020 01:32 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: Spain, budget as cheap as possible that fits all my criteria. Max. 1000€ Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Specifications > battery How important is weight and thinness to you? Important. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Netflix, google docs, social media, occasional photoshop and/or illustrator. Games: Stuff like League of Legends or Hearthstone. I don't like hardcore gaming. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? LoL, Hearthstone, maybe Starcraft II. About 60fps i'd be ok. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Anything you recommend so that it can last for a good amount of time without becoming obsolete. MBP 13” or an XPS 13 longevity? Posted: 07 Feb 2020 07:23 PM PST So I need a pro level machine with a high build quality. It'll be an investment I need to last (these aren't cheap). I've narrowed it down to two options. Macs seem to give people a solid number of years. The design is always the same, it's always mature and modern, build quality is long lasting, etc. It's been the standard for creatives. But buying a Mac the last few years is just a non starter (keyboard, outdated hardware sold as new, etc). However the 16" fixed a lot of that, and a similar refresh to the 13" is around the corner. I can wait for that, or I can get that machine now with the 2020 XPS 13. The problem is, it's a Dell. The hoards of black plastic, antivirus bloatware spouting laptops that go obsolete in 6 months is what comes to mind. Have they really come around? Is the build quality and design something that'll really carry me through the next 5-7 years? It wasn't long ago people were still buying refurbished 2015 MacBooks, where PC's just always seemed disposable. At $1000+, it's hard to justify a $100 savings on specs/Apple tax when it comes to longevity like that. [link] [comments]
HOW WAS THE ACER PREDATOR HELIOS 300? Posted: 08 Feb 2020 01:05 AM PST Im confused cause other reviews said it has short battery life while others said it has good ones. Anyone using this device? Also is it heavy? [link] [comments]

HP Spectre x360 15-- 2018 vs 2019 (US) Posted: 07 Feb 2020 10:39 PM PST Looking for a 14" or 15" Ultrabook 2-in1 and was eyeing a refurb 2018 Spectre from Newegg. I don't know hardware specs very well but I don't see a lot of changes between the years. Am I missing something? Feel free to recommend others. I am also considering the Dell XPS, Lenovo Yoga, and MSI Prestige. Always looking for best value but definitely don't want to spend more than $1200. [link] [comments]
Budget machine for ArcGIS Pro. Student. [$800, 14", USA] Posted: 07 Feb 2020 10:21 PM PST Hiyo. I recently got my undergrad and am currently working on learning GIS. It would be nice to be able to do stuff at home, but my old laptop is about 7 years old! So here I am. Thank you in advance. Total budget and country of purchase: $800, USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best Specs for the money How important is weight and thinness to you? Don't care. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14" or greater would be preferable, but I will gladly reduce the screen size if it gains me better hardware. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. ArcGIS Pro. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Possibly Dark Souls 1-3. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? An optical drive would be nice, but not necessary. Reliable build quality definitely a plus. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. For the hard drive, I think I will either want a 512gb SSD, or a 128-256gb SSD combined with a 500-1000gb secondary. I think I will need both a dedicated graphics card, 8gb of RAM, as well as a quad core processor. The "recommended" specs from the software developer can be found here, if that helps: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/get-started/arcgis-pro-system-requirements-2-3-0.htm [link] [comments]
New laptop for word processing and facebook games Posted: 07 Feb 2020 09:04 PM PST hey guys so my mom has tasked me with finding her a laptop (she wants to write a book) but i haven't followed the industry since 2013 and i want to make sure i get her something that will last a while and also be decently fast and I'm struggling to find reviews online when i find a laptop with decent specs.... so I'm hoping for an Asus laptop (they still have a reputation for reliability right) but reliability is more important than the brand with a good battery life and a mid range processor (I'm not brand loyal) i was thinking 8gb ram should do windows 10 but would 16 be better for future proofing and something that is reasonably tough, able to survive a few slides off the bed laptops I've looked at so far: Asus zenbook 14 UM433DA the ryzen 7 and ryzen 5 variants. Any help is greatly appreciated if you want anymore input on my behalf feel free to let me know either in a post reply or pm and again thank you for the help [link] [comments]
