Quiet high-end "gaming" laptop Posted: 10 Feb 2020 03:51 AM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** 3000 USD, Denmark * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Best specifications. Mostly for home use. Battery life irrelevant. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Not important at all. Having a brick could even remind me of my home, should I ever travel with it * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 14" and above * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** League of Legends. Thats about it * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Low noise is probably the most important feature for me. Decent speakers would be a plus **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** So I recently purchased the Lenovo Y740, which I am now returning as the fans are too loud for me. I bought it because it was already hoarded to be one of the most quiet gaming laptops around, which puts me in a bit of a pickle. I am currently considering a "business" laptop with decent gaming capabilities instead, but I feel many of these have generally prioritized portability while completely neglecting thermals.. I am aware that I have created some very high demands and I do necessarily expect specific suggestions, but hopefully you could help point me in which direction I should look? Thanks [link] [comments] |

Posted: 10 Feb 2020 03:02 AM PST Hello community. I am currently washed my hands off of my 5 year old Lenovo Y50 70 and looking for a new machine. I need a laptop for casual gaming as well as a bit of Photoshop and basic uni work. (I am a DOTA2 addict and have 4000+ hours online and have played games like Witcher 3, GTAV, Skyrim etc). My budget is 700-850$ and would really appreciate if you guys suggest a nice light and thin (as slim as possible) laptop for me . I have looked up a few laptops myself which will help get atleast 60fps in DOTA2. Asus vivobook 15 - ryzen 5 (no dedicated you)/16gb ram/512gb SSD HP Envy x360- same as above Asus TUF A15 - (not launched yet) sadly this may not fit in my budget. Open for suggestions here. Feel free to ask any questions to help me pick a new machine. Thenks💧 [link] [comments] |
Comparing HP Pavilion 13-an1004nq and ASUS ZenBook 14 UM433DA Posted: 10 Feb 2020 02:19 AM PST Hi, I am not an IT geek at all, therefore an expert advice would really help me regarding which to choose from these 2 laptop models I found at a local web store. Important for me is durability, battery life and speed in office work.
Thank you very much in advance! Eniko [link] [comments] |
Photo editing laptop under $1200 Posted: 09 Feb 2020 07:38 PM PST Hi Reddit! I'm looking around for a budget-ish laptop that will perform decent with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop but is study enough for everyday use. Along with photo editing I'd like for a display with really good colors and contrast. Preferably on the smaller side (sub 16 inch ) if possible, but I am flexible with the size. If any of you would be able to offer your expertise it would be greatly appreciated ! [link] [comments] |

I'm looking to buy around June-August, and hoping back to school sales and Nvidia's next gen will get me a good deal. I've been eyeing the Helios 300, and the Mech 17. Are there any lineups I should keep an eye out for over the coming months? I'm definitely liking the look of Acer and the generic brands (Eluktronics/Evoo), and the 17 inch screen is pretty important to me. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Looking for a new laptop for college Posted: 09 Feb 2020 08:07 PM PST
My last laptop was a bit of an overkill for what I do and play. It was also bulky, heavy, and too 'gamer' looking. I don't need an RGB keyboard or anything, but a backlit one would be nice. I have found this on Amazon. From what I can tell it looks good enough, I just want more suggestions. I also don't know how big the power brick is. [link] [comments] |

Any newer equivalent of the Thinkpad T420 Posted: 09 Feb 2020 02:53 PM PST I love the Thinkpad T420, it's a great all rounder and I use it a lot for coding and watching movies. But if I'm travelling anywhere, like a train or a plane. Then it's kinda bulky and thick, so I was wondering if there is a more modern version i.e. slimmer, more up to date, which also has all the perks of the T420 (easy to upgrade, inexpensive) I'd fill out the form, but it feels a little pointless as I don't have any set budget or specifications, I just wanted to know my options :) [link] [comments] |

Searching for a cheap laptop (70 euros - max 100) for coding Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:18 AM PST I'm searching for a cheap USED laptop. Nothing special. Some listings are too expensive for me. Looking for a sleek laptop for very simple tasks Posted: 09 Feb 2020 10:50 AM PST I'm looking for a new laptop that will be primarily used for word processing and streaming. I have had really good laptops in the past (in terms of hardware) but are clunky to use with poor track pads and keyboards. I am now looking for something smaller, sleeker that is really 'nice' to use. After some research something like this [Lenovo](https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-ideapad-s340-14-intel-core-i3-laptop-128-gb-ssd-platinum-10193275-pdt.html) would be perfect, but I would like to make sure the hardware is good value. Total budget and country of purchase:Looking at a range of between £300-£400 in the United Kingdom. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.Reasonable battery life and good specifications for the price How important is weight and thinness to you?Relatively lightweight considering usage will be basic, same for thinness. Important note - no number pad (to avoid wide laptops). Which OS do you require?Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.Basic word processing and streaming only. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?No gaming. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?Good keyboard, good input devices. No optical drive wanted. I would ideally like to avoid 'cheap' feeling laptops. In the past laptops have felt very plastic and creaky, but this isn't a major issue. A review based on my preferences of the laptop i have linked would be great, or if there are any other suggestions that would be fantastic! Thanks a lot for all you guys do! [link] [comments] |

Laptop for Clinical Psychology PhD program (US) - $2k Posted: 09 Feb 2020 01:23 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $2,000 USD +/- 10% Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs for the money. Assuming I need something to handle CPU and memory intensive tasks. How important is weight and thinness to you? Semi-important Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows or Mac. Preference towards Mac. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Looking for something that will be able to handle occasional neuroimaging and EEG data processing. This will mostly be done in the lab, but I don't want to preclude the possibility of heavy processing on it. I'm not sure how much coding will be required in my new lab, but I anticipate some to set up data processing pipelines. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build. I want this to last beyond the full PhD program. Let's say 5 years before I'd need to look to upgrade. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I don't mind spending money to get what I need, but I want it to work. There seems to be a lot of new technologies out there since I last bought a laptop, so I'm turning to you all for help. [link] [comments] |
Laptop for Light Gaming (2D and low intensity 3D games, Portal 2 60fps at worst.) and media. Posted: 09 Feb 2020 07:08 PM PST I'm going on a vacation with my gf soon, just staying in a house, out in the woods and we wanted to grab a laptop that I can take with us and we can play games on and watch movies while we hang out in the room. That's about it, just Steam with some light games, Netflix and Movie files. [link] [comments] |
What are the minimum spects for a gaming laptop? Posted: 09 Feb 2020 06:55 PM PST What would be the minimum spects for a laptop to run smaller games. I know most people say you want at least 8 Ram but besides that I don't know a lot about CPUs,graphic cards, or anything else. What would you suggest? Also side note: sorry if Im using the term "spect" wrong, please correct me if I am. [link] [comments] |
