Lightweight browsers for Windows? Posted: 15 Feb 2020 12:51 PM PST I had a good enough laptop that recently bit the dust. I used it mostly as a secondary device to for watching youtube videos and playing on reddit. I decided to replace it with an old windows 8 2 in 1 that I got on ebay for like $40. It was so cheap and I somehow found one for half the price that they usually go for, so I figured "why not?". I wasn't really expecting much given that it's 6-7 years old but I figured what I used my laptop for was so basic it wouldn't matter. I might have been wrong on that. The tablet I got is the Samsung Ativ 500t. It has the Z2760 atom processor and 2gb of ram. Not exactly a powerhouse. It had Windows 10 but it was so unusable that I downgraded to Windows 8.1. Getting around the operating system is fine now but internet is still pretty slow. Chrome absolutely ruined it and IE is too old to be useful. I currently have Firefox, which is ok but still chugs at times. Are there any other browsers that might work better on this thing? [link] [comments]
Updating extremely outdated PC Posted: 15 Feb 2020 08:22 AM PST I have an old PC that's mainly been sitting in a box since 2007. It has XP installed, and has whichever programs on it from the factory. I was going to donate it to a friend, just for typing and light web-browsing, but it seems the programs are so old they can't load the modernised pages they would need in order to update. I'm kind of stuck at what to do about that. I tried putting in my Windows 7 Disc to update it, but it says that the disc is incompatible with that version of windows. Does anyone have any advice on how to update the machine? [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Feb 2020 06:23 PM PST My microphone won't work. It just straight up wont work. its not making noise in sound settings (im using a splitter for my 3.5 mil jack) . I think this may be due to the fact that im not choosing the correct option when windows says "What device did you plugin"? could someone tell me which ones to select for the pink and green jacks? Update or Clean Install (W10)? Posted: 15 Feb 2020 01:18 PM PST Going to upgrade in 2 days, would a clean install be faster than if I upgraded (no apps installed, just a new account created before the upgrade)? My Specs: - Intel i5-3210M - 6GB RAM - Intel HD 4000 Going to debloat and mess around with the Settings to make it faster though. [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Feb 2020 12:48 PM PST I can't change the ownership of a folder, the owner is " S-1-5-21-758182893-1274031057-1472833058-1001" which I have no idea who that is. Error 0x80071a91 when updating Posted: 15 Feb 2020 12:14 PM PST I was going through the process of updating drivers and checking for updates and noticed windows needs an update. Usually it updates itself or lets me know when one is needed. So it was odd that I just randomly found it. When trying to update it failed and I got the error 0x80071a91 Does anyone know how to fix this? I cant find anything on reddit or google explaining why it happened or how to fix it. Pictures (.jpg) transferred to desktop are huge and I can't open them. Posted: 15 Feb 2020 11:53 AM PST I had a very similar warning to this previous post when trying to open the jpg files. https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/8376q0/it_appears_that_we_dont_support_this_file_format/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share The jpeg files all appear to be larger than 17 GB. Some of the pictures appear to be fine. However, most of them wont open. Things I've tried: -Updating Windows 10 (no change) -Switching to windows photo viewer (instead of the photos app)-Says "Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because either Photo Viewer doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest update to Photo Viewer" -Trying to open with Samsung Gallery-just shows a black image -Opening with Paint-Says "an unknown error occurred while accessing" -Using TrID- When I run the program it rapidly blinks a black screen like with using cmd and then goes away. -Tried Stellar Data recovery-The program does not show a preview of the pictures and I don't want to pay for premium if it won't work -Tried changing the file type using an online file converter-the pictures are too large My wife read that this might be a known issue that might be patched in the future. I'm not sure. Any other guidance would be greatly appreciated!!! [link] [comments]
Laptop keyboard not working after updating to KB4532693 Posted: 15 Feb 2020 04:11 AM PST My laptop just got the update and it broke my keyboard. I've tried several fixes and can't uninstall the update (it just doesn't give me the option to and when I try to use the command prompt it says 'Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4532693) is required by your computer and cannot be uninstalled') I've got an Acer aspire vx with the latest bios; the machine does have some other problems (like screen flashing black sometimes during high GPU usage) but the keyboard was never broken. I also had a repair service maybe a year ago which completely replaced the board and keyboard (due to me accidentally ripping off the M key connectors while attempting to clean it). Is there any way I can roll back the update without completely reinstalling windows? If it helps I'm running Windows Education version (don't know if that's causing the issues) Thanks in advance [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Feb 2020 07:12 AM PST I tried updating my laptop from windows 7 to 10. Half way through it canceled, reverted the changes and prompted error code 0x8007001F - 0x20006. It said the installation had failed. Now it says my windows 7 is not genuine and when I tried to update it to windows 10 again it asked me to enter the windows 7 code before I could update it. What should I do? [link] [comments]
Windows 8.1 update corrupts my user profile Posted: 15 Feb 2020 10:54 AM PST So I've been fighting with this issue ever since I turned my pc on last night. After installing the windows update and restarting, my pc signs me out of my user profile and makes me use a temp profile. I've fixed this by using the System Restore Process (Shift+reset -> Troubleshoot -> Advanced Options -> System Restore) to revert to an older version stored in a backup, which I believe is generated each time your pc has updates(?). My problem is that there is still an update that needs to be pushed through, and every time I update and restart, my user profile winds up corrupted again, so I have to do the whole fix process again. Is there any way I can clear the downloaded info for the update, fetch the update data manually, and install manually? [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Feb 2020 06:25 AM PST They will be buggy and unstable at first release, and Microsoft are forcing us to update to the new releases? Also, their support is not long enough. This is good for MS, but not for us consumers. Is it possible to postpone only the main updates (not the security updates). Will be on 10 soon. 1909 is not fully stable is it? [link] [comments] |
