    File Explorer Quality looks weird.

    File Explorer Quality looks weird.

Whenever I start to download an image, and get to the screen where I can name the file, the quality of file explorer looks off. This only happens when I try downloading an image, and not when I just open the application. Any help would be appreciated. (Ignore the Files I have saved, as I just wanted to show an example. And sorry if you cant see the problem with it very well, I tried to show it the best I could.)

    Windows Update Broke Mutahar's Computer...

I want to make Windows 10 look like Windows XP/Vista

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 07:55 PM PST

I remember when I was young hopping onto the PC, turning on the computer and be greeted by the pristine, crystalline sounds and looks of Windows vista, and playing the built-in games like purble place, solitaire, minesweeper, for hours on end.

I also remember XP, but haven't spent as much time as I did on Vista. I still miss them both.

It's obviously very clear that I have a strong feeling of nostalgia associated to windows vista. Honestly I'm not too keen on the windows 10 design. I want to make my computer look like vista, not in functionality, purely by looks.

So is there anyway I can change the looks of the system? It was easy in Windows 7 to make it look older, but I have no idea where to start on Windows 10.

Question about clean install for Windows 10, coming from Windows 7.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 01:55 PM PST

Hey all, just a quick question.

I'm planning on updating my PC from 7 to 10, and read up on the ISO boot file and putting it on a flash drive and running it from there. Then, on the install screen, choose custom and delete the partitions listed to get a clean install.

My question is, I have two harddrives, an SSD for the OS and an HDD for everything else.

I want to wipe both hard drives. Is there going to be a listed partition for both hard drives? If I delete all partitions, will my HDD be cleaned up to?

Or is there a better way to go about this? My HDD is also getting kind of cluttered and I'd like to just start fresh with it.

What is the fastest Autoclicker for windows?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 12:19 AM PST

I've got a "project" from my IT teacher, I need to push a button 2,147,483,647*2 times, in an Android application. So I fired up Bluestacks, and found an autoclicker which said it can click 100000 click/sec, but it's seems to be Windows can't handle it. Does anyone have a solution?

Best ways to avoid malware/best antivirus software

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 11:20 PM PST

So I've always used Linux, which it's nearly impossible to get a virus on. I'm getting a new PC and installing Windows 10 on it, so I can play more games without using software like WINE. How common is getting a virus? I'm pretty safe when it comes to what I download, but I'm still curious. Also what anti malware programs would you recommend? Thanks!

How connecting to Akamai servers work at OS level? I use firewall rules to allow only certain applications to go online and block everything else. On browser all websites work except those using akamai

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:23 AM PST

Posted this in a different sub but as a new user it doesn't appear for some reason. maybe it works here

I've configured the firewall to block anything that do not match what I've clearly defined to be allowed.

For example, a browser is allowed to go online and everything works correctly. Except all websites that use akamai do not load correctly. Like steam.

Once the browser try to do a TLS handshake with akamai servers it hangs up.

I've tried with different browsers, for example, chrome, firefox, opera. All have the same issue so it appears that for akamai and only for akamai all browsers ask some hidden service inside the OS (windows 10) to handle this connection.

Since I've blocked anything else that I do not want to go online it can't do that.

But how this works and why akamai have this preferred treatment at OS level?

    Thank You for your help

My laptop won't detect my monitor until after a restart and BSOD - nvlddmkm.sys

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 07:07 AM PST

    Hello everyone,

My laptop won't detect my monitor when I first boot it up. I have to restart it before it appears. Sometimes even a couple of times.

Additionally I've had the BSOD with the error code VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE. What failed: nvlddmkm.sys.

I've deleted the driver and even performed a clean install. And the problem still persists. I seen somewhere which mentioned renaming nvlddmkm.sys to .old, and then creating a new one, but windows then says I don't have permission to do that. Despite changing the security settings to give me full control.

Not sure what else I can do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do I need to purchase a copy of windows?? (HDD died)

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 10:13 PM PST

The other day the HDD in my computer died and I am going to install a new SSD. This computer was an All in one Lenovo (not custom built in anyway).

Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of the licence key before it died and when I boot up to the recovery/advanced options and open command prompt, I have tried the

    wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey

solution however it results in an error about a definition.

I don't want to use the free version of windows and I am attempting to avoid purchasing a grey market key.

I tried checking the BIOS for anything however the "Preinstalled OS license" and "License Key ID" values don't look like a regular Win10 license.

Messed with my laptop SSD now Windows is corrupted I guess (automatic repair, chkdsk, sfc... all fail). I can still see all the system files if I plug the SSD into my desktop, can I revive the user profiles?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 06:53 AM PST

My laptop won't boot anymore, after I plugged the SSD into my desktop. I have no idea what went wrong because I don't think I touched anything on it, but there it is.

As title states, it tries to repair itself and fails, and chkdsk and sfc all fail. However, I can still literally see all the files by plugging it back into my desktop.

I can do a fresh Windows install if needed, and I know I can copy all the documents so that's no problem, but I'd really like to recover the user profiles wholesale, logging in to the same setup without having to start from scratch.

Who doesn't lock their machine when they get up before walking away?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 05:21 AM PST

I could have sworn the sidebar had a rule against posting Win+L locks your computer, and I was gonna make a joke about that, but I'm not seeing it. Anyway, that's not what I'm here to do, though, if you didn't know how, now you do.

So I got an email at my second job that went out company wide, and it kind of pissed me off. They said that the lockout timer was going from 1 hour to 15 minutes. That means if the computer is idle for more than 15 minutes, it locks itself.

That's not what bothered me, though. I bring a laptop to this job (with permission, LOL), and when I get up, both my company workstation, and my personal laptop are getting the Win+L treatment. The only time the one hour thing affected me was when I was actually seated for a full hour (which is very rare) and it went off on its own. Normally, if I get up, even to cross the room (because anyone can waltz in at any time), my damn computers are getting locked down.

If I were IT, I'd do something like issue everyone a Bluetooth key so that the computer locks when it no longer detects the tag (I think those things have a range of like 15'; I know Bluetooth is more like 30). But I'm not, and if IT issued me one, I'd still manually lock. It's just what I do.

    Doesn't everyone? Do you?

Of course, I don't lock if I'm at home and it's just my wife and I. However, if I anticipate her getting on the computer, like putting the toilet seat down, I will switch over to her account (not enter her PIN, which I know, though). That way she sits down, punches in her PIN, and she's ready, she doesn't have to initiate the switch (not that it's hard, but, courtesy). If I have visitors, I lock every time I get up. Want Internet access? You probably have a smartphone. If not, they're not that hard to get. You have one and your carrier sucks? I'll put in my WiFi password (not give it to you) as long as you promise not to do anything illegal. And that's only if I trust ya.

Is this not common SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) with most Windows users? My laptop, and my Windows account on my desktop, like my iPhone, are my personal space and I do not share them with anyone, except my wife on rare occasions (who has her own account on my desktop and laptop, and her own smartphone).

    Windows Defender Empty

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 11:16 PM PST

I believe I recently got a severe virus/trojan, that is blocking windows defender completely.

I can access Windows Security, but there's only 1 option "Open Windows Security" and when I do, a blank page with "Security at a glance" appears.

I've downloaded 5 different anti-malware/anti-virus software, made several full (deep) scans, some have found trojans but when I quarantine/delete those found, some are not getting deleted or 'act' like they're gone.

I've tried CMD (admin) sfc /scannow, it says nothing's wrong. I've tried the DISM Cleanup on CMD aswell, again nothing happens.

I've also tried regedit > policies and making sure there aren't any AntiSpyware or any registries blocking access to WinDef. Also checked group policies, nothing's changed or wrong.

I tried booting into safe mode, win defender also is not working there. I also restarted my pc after every single 'fix'.

I tried downloading CCleaner to cleanup, and check registry, it found many incorrect files and fixed them, but nothing changed aswell.

In Services, when I locate and try to start Windows Defender I get the error, "The Windows Defender Antivirus Network Inspection Service service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs".

When I try to check for update in Windows Update, it keeps loading forever and then I get the error "There were some problems installing updates.......This may help: (0x80080005)".

When I try to troubleshoot, the whole window freezes then closes, sometimes I'm able to troubleshoot, but it just keeps on troubleshooting forever.

When I manually search for Virus & Threat Protection, I'm able to open the window but not a single button works.

I've researched and watched almost every single fix there is online, but nothing worked yet. I really do not want to reset and reinstall windows.

    Help.
