Antimalware Service Executable killing my CPU - 100% usage and does not increase CPU fan speed Posted: 03 Feb 2020 07:33 AM PST Sorry if I break the rule of malicious software; but how can I completely remove msmpeng.exe from ever running on my pc in any form or way ever again? Both prior to -and after attempting to follow multiple guides on how to disable it/windows defender the malware will still randomly pin my i7 9700 CPU to 100% usage without allowing the AIO/CPU fan to ramp up; essentially killing my cpu by locking it at dangerously high temperatures. The reason I discovered the first time was because my CPU/Water block made a screeching sound when it happened due to the immense heat. No other program/service has ever caused this problem. I never leave my pc unattended these days. It's literally just msmpeng putting me at risk of buying a new 400$ cpu and motherboard any day now. Edit since people don't read: No, my AIO pump is not defective. The issue applies to the PWM fan as well, which comes from another manufacturer and has never had any issues for 2 years until the W10 upgrade a year ago. Putting emphasis again on the fact that the cooling works perfectly fine for other tasks/programs using 100% cpu, just not msmpeng.exe.[link] [comments]

How to get multiple desktops to work how I want with 2 monitors Posted: 03 Feb 2020 08:32 AM PST I use the multiple desktop spaces feature a lot, but I can never figure out how to get it to work how I want with my second monitor. Sometimes, whatever is on monitor 2 will persist through both desktops. Other times, even if there is nothing on monitor 2 on desktop 2, when I switch to desktop 2, it will show nothing. It seems completely random whether it persists or disappears, and there are lots of times where I WANT either of those behaviors but I can't actually get it to do it when I want. So what actually determines whether monitor 2 changes with monitor 1 or not? [link] [comments]
Purchase OEM windows or separate license and go through the driver installations? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 06:00 PM PST I'm thinking of buying a Dell 2019 2 in 1 XPS 13". I've had previous issues with the laptop dying and trying to transfer the license to another computer, but apparently that doesn't work like that. Since now Windows licenses are forever, should I buy the license separately so it outlives the laptop? Or is the OEM license transferrable? Is installing windows separately somehow a bad idea that I am not aware of? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 11:11 AM PST I'm using a Dell Inspiron 7537 laptop. Nvidia GeForce Gt 750M graphics card. I'm getting an error saying " windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)" So far I've tried : 1. uninstalling & reinstalling drivers. 2. updating drivers. Nothing has worked, please help. Edit : tried updating my bios but that also didn't work. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 09:31 AM PST Long story short, I got an upgraded hard drive. I installed Windows 10 Pro 64 successfully on the hard drive, signed back into the Windows account and everything is perfect, EXCEPT.... I have noticed that for some reason, in this fresh install of Windows, the search bars at the top right corner of whatever Window you have open to search within the specific path you are in just doesn't work. I hover my cursor over it, and it changes to the vertical insert line cursor we see when we do this, but when I go to click into the box to then enter whatever character into the search field, it just doesn't work. I can't click it, or tab it, or type anything into it. Think of a video game and that menu feature you hadn't unlocked yet. It's greyed out. You can cursor over it but clicking on it does nothing. This is what the search bars are doing. My previous installation of Windows on the old hard drive never did this. Anyone else experience this as well? Also, anyone know of a fix for this bug? Edit: The previous copy of Windows is the same source as the current one, (ISO on bootable USB) using the same account (also, yes this account is legitimate and paid for and activated properly) and both the old and the new one are fully updated as well, so I am just lost as to why this is happening. Posted: 03 Feb 2020 07:17 AM PST Have a mixed network, rolling out win10 into a win7 network. Server 2016. Came in since this last week haven't been able to communicate with the server on any win10 computers. Did something change with smb1? Half the computers won't communicate with the server now (only win10 machines), but the win7 machines are working fine. Edit: wrong line of thinking, name recognition error. Changing host file to point to server, "fixed" [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 04:47 PM PST tonight my esc key started acting strange. when I pres it it starts a 10 keystroke sequence one of which is esc. itself. but it also activates a lot of other keys and ends with Z. so when I go into my Roccat control panel to maybe remap escape key it cycles through 10 different keys before landing on Z - all in maybe a mili second. I tried troubleshooting my keyboard, updating the drivers, plugging and unplugging the keyboard - also into different USB ports, restarting the PC etc. Anyone ever tried this? only thing I installed tonight was a new Nvidia driver. Can it be that the keyboard is just semi fried? its around 6 years old. Roccat Ryos MK glow. - any help is MUCH appreciated since this is driving me absolutely nuts :(. [link] [comments]

Translator live tile stopped working Posted: 03 Feb 2020 03:57 PM PST I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue. I use the live tile feature of the Translator app that displays one sentence in French (a language I'm learning) everyday and I find it useful, but it's stopped working suddenly. This didn't happen after a Windows update, just stopped working randomly. I tried turning the live tile feature off and on, resizing it and reinstalling but to no avail. Anyone know how to fix this? Windows 7 SP1 and ZoneAlarm Firewall Posted: 03 Feb 2020 03:54 PM PST I use an old version of Zone Alarm firewall (9.1.007.002) mostly to block programs I don't want contacting the internet. Somewhere around the Windows 7 SP1 update, there is some change in how Windows manages permissions which interferes with Zone Alarm, where Zone Alarm will block all programs that load during startup, and prevent the user from launching any programs or accessing any Windows functions. What are the changes to permissions around SP1 that initiate this behavior, and is there a way for me to disable it prior to launching Zone Alarm? I tried looking up the documentation on SP1 but I can't find anything specific to how permissions are managed. [link] [comments]

How to make a timed log off comand in windows 10? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 08:10 AM PST I want to make the computer log off in a certain amount of time. I know the log off command (shutdown -l) but I don't know how to time it. I thought It would be the same as with the turn off comand where you add -t and the amount of seconds (shutdown -s -t XX) but for some reason that doesn't work. Is it even possible to make a timed log off command? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 03:27 PM PST I am a video editor, and I have access to one of my repeat clients' servers, which is mounted as a network drive. The connection is too slow, so I have to copy over any footage I want to use. I like to keep it in an identical file structure, to make re-linking the footage on their end easy, but recreating it manually is extremely tedious and time-consuming, as is individually copying each file.. My question is, is there a way to take a list of select files and batch copy them to my own drive while keeping them in the same file structure? [link] [comments]
Random keys on keyboard stop working? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 09:27 AM PST hey guys, so since recently I've been encountering an issue where my keyboard will stop inputting certain keys. C, V, X, N are common culprits. This fixes itself after a reboot. The weird thing is, my keyboard is perfect. Plug it into another machine, all fine. And if I try another keyboard on my pc while the issue persists, then same. The keys still dont work. Is there some sorta weird windows toggle that I'm somehow enabling that disables some keys? I game a lot and when this happens mid game (competitive games) its so frustrating because I cant use some keys until i reboot the Pc and swapping keyboards has no effect either. I'm on windows 10 pro, regularly updated, Ryzen 5 3600. GTX 1070 and 16gb of RAM @ 3200Mhz . Help would be appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments]
What type of connection is made when connecting to another computer on your local network? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 03:23 PM PST I'm coming from an old 2010 macbookpro and that used SMBv1 and was slow. Is that what windows uses as well? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 02:30 PM PST This may sound dumb but does anyone know of a place that I can find an .iso for Windows 7 Pro 64 bit? I'm willing to pay for it but want to have it as a personal boot drive. [link] [comments]

What's the best place/ way to buy a Windows 10 Pro product key? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 09:59 AM PST I need 2 keys and I found a key on Newegg for $150 and one at Best Buy for $170. $200 from Windows. I do want a legitimate key and not have to deal with gambling on a $30 key from some website. Ideas on the most reliable and best price? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 01:36 PM PST I had my computer fixed last year and they installed Windows 7 Pro on it, but I have a home premium key and couldn't afford a pro key. I am currently operating my PC with "This copy of windows is not genuine" pop ups because I can't activate it due to having an inferior key. Is there a way for me to downgrade my OS to home premium so I can activate it without doing a wipe of my drive? [link] [comments]
