Hey people of r/laptop, need help with ideas for a new laptop. Posted: 03 Jan 2020 11:27 AM PST What I need is something that is light, cheap, and powerful enough to run at least photoshop. Having a I-7 processor would be a major plus but I am aware of the price. Is there something that has the same power or close to it? Right now I am running a Lenovo Y50_70 Touch. I love it, but it is old and to heavy for the amount of travel that I do. I would prefer to stay away from Apple (just a personal preference), but open to the best options. By the way this is for work. I work in the video production industry as a coordinator, but edit on the side. Would love something to do both while maintaining the light aspect. Dont need a big screen as long as I can connect to a tv, so HDMI capable would help. Any ideas? [link] [comments]

High performance with good thermals laptop Posted: 03 Jan 2020 02:01 PM PST I want a laptop which has high processing power for some MATLAB projects, and good graphics for playing fifa 20 on free time. The only thing that I can't compromise for is cooling performance and build quality that makes me not worry about disassembling it for maintenance. Any recommendations for 1200 usd price point ? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
ASUS ROG GL702VM -DB71 PROBLEM Posted: 03 Jan 2020 01:31 PM PST So I have had this for about 2 years now and about 1 year ago the battery wasnt charging, then the laptop stopped detecting it. This all happened after an update. Not sure if it's related. I bought several batteries for it 2 OEM and an Off brand battery. I also bought a replacement charger both OEM and off brand. Both didn't change my situation. I have unistalled, reinstalled, updated and rolled back the ac driver. I have taken the battery out and held the power button upwards of 1 full minute to fully discharge any power then reinstalled batteries. Nothing seems to fix it. ASUS wants almost 900 to fix it...i bought it for 300 more than that new... Any idea what else i could do to fix it? Also running windows 10. [link] [comments]
8 GB RAM vs 16 GB RAM vs i5-9300h vs i7-9750h Posted: 03 Jan 2020 01:28 PM PST Hi guys im about to buy new laptop, Lenovo ThinkPad 15". The main reason i do it is programing/coding. But the thing is that my PC setup is "quite xD" old (i5-4440k + gtx950 + 8GB RAM) so i decided to go for laptop that Will suit both for programing and gaming. I want to have gtx 1650 rather than 1050 as its far better. But im not sure about 8 GB vs 16 GB and core. I think 8 GB + i5-9300h is enough for programing, but what about gaming? I want to play games at least on smooth and stable 60 FPS even on low quality, im playing mostly fifa, apex, PoE and CoD:MW. In this case, in my opinion, i should go for i7 - 9750h, but will it really make a huge difference? Same with 8GB vs 16GB. What do you guys think? Whats the difference in fps while playing on 15" screen, and my pc's monitor which is 24" 144hz? Will i be Able to use this 144hz, for example running games on 100fps with better setup or there are no chances of this? Or should i go for i7-9750h with 8GB ram cuz 16GB in this case is useless? Help please :( [link] [comments]
New Dell Inspiron incredibly slow Posted: 03 Jan 2020 12:52 PM PST For Christmas I decided to buy a new Dell Inspiron 3583, with the Intel Core i3 processor, but ever since I bought it I've been having trouble with video playback on YouTube, and applications running slow. Is there anything I could do to speed up this brand new laptop I've bought? [link] [comments]

HOW TO? - Windows Games on a Laptop with No Hardware Acceleration Posted: 03 Jan 2020 12:04 PM PST Hi, I recently received a hand me down Lenovo Ideapad Laptop. I know how to use a PC, but I generally invest my money in Mac. Using time and resources versus paying Geek Squad to do hardware mods, what are the best practices, best settings to use when trying to play PC games. The games I have in mind are Blade Runner, Thief 1, Redneck Rampage, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Outcast 2, open GL video games. Any advice is kindly appreciated and I thank you in advance. [link] [comments]
Lenovo thinkpad T560 turns on and then dies Posted: 03 Jan 2020 11:44 AM PST When I click the power button it will turn on and start the fans for a few seconds and then die, for a while after about 5 minutes of on and off it would finally boot but now it doesn't at all. I was going to take a video but right when I decided to it stopped Turing on at all. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
How can I stop my laptop switching power modes randomly? Posted: 03 Jan 2020 11:11 AM PST I got myself first gaming laptop ( usually just build PCs ) and as all laptops it gets loud. It's not a problem when I am alone and headphones. When misses a sleep next to me, it becomes an issue. I managed to work around this problem by setting max CPU power to 60% in power mode settings. Works great and keeps laptop pretty much silent with 50ish degrees, no complaints from misses. Problem is that sometimes it randomly goes to gaming mode from the power mode and fans go off mad. Is there a reason it does it randomly? Amy way to stop it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jan 2020 10:33 AM PST Hey guys, I recently bought the Lenovo Legion Y540 for $1030 CAD before taxes. Here's the link: Now, the Asus Strix Rog Hero is on sale for $700 CAD: The Y540 is a better laptop but I dont think it's worth 330$ more. Should I return the Y540 and get the Rog once/if it's back in stock? Or is the price difference between them justified? I mainly use the laptop for programming and university, maybe some gaming. Thanks [link] [comments]

What are acceptable temperatures for my CPU while running games? Posted: 03 Jan 2020 10:25 AM PST I have an ASUS 17" RoG Strix SCAR II laptop. I'm monitoring temps using MSI Afterburner and my CPU averages about 85 degrees C with Rainbow Six Siege on low settings and 90 degrees and sometimes higher on The Division 2. I don't know if these temperatures are safe or not but once they creep over 90 degrees on my CPU, I get worried. Is this normal? Also, if its not, is there anything I can do to keep it cooler? I play with the laptop on a desk, vents are not blocked, nothing else is running in the background other than the game and afterburner. [link] [comments]
Trying to sell my unused laptop but no luck :/ Posted: 03 Jan 2020 10:08 AM PST I've been trying to sell my laptop for a few months now on Let Go and OfferUp but have only gotten messaged by scammers. I was worked that I'd be low-balled trying to sell it at a tech store. It's a $700 laptop and barely used so I'd hate to settle for a low price. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :) Edit: The lap stop is a Yoga Lenovo Chromebook C630. It's convertible and touch screen. It isn't all that impressive but as a high school student this would have been amazing to have. Specs: Intel Core i5-8250U Intel UHD Graphics 620 8GB RAM 15.6", FHD (1920x1080), IPS TOUCHSCREEN 128GB SSD [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Jan 2020 02:28 AM PST Hi! So, this question might be kind of stupid, but I have 0 experience building a PC, so I thought it would be a good idea to ask first and buy later. So, I have an HP Pavilion Gaming laptop (12 GB RAM, I7 8th Gen, 1050TI, 256SSD+1HDD) and I was thinking to upgrade to 16 GB RAM. Currently, the RAM I have is 4+8, 2666MHz and 19CL each, and I was planning to swap the 4 GB for an 8. I know I have to match both the frequency and CL in order for them to work well with one another, but let's say I want to upgrade one (or both) of them and I buy the appropriate RAMs for it, say for example 2*8 (of 1*16) with 3200MHz and CL17. Can I just upgrade the RAM's frequency and CL (as long as they match with one another ofc) without looking at anything else or do they have a limitation like RAM total size (which is 32 GB if I am not mistaken)? Also, if I have to choose frequency or CL, what should I prioritize? And about voltage, by using CPU-Z I was able to figure out they used 1.2V, should the new RAM (or RAMs) also be 1.2V, or can they be more/less? Thanks in advance for the time you spent reading this (and answering as well, if you do). [link] [comments] |
