Windows 7 black screen after December 2019 rollup update!

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 01:03 PM PST

I installed the recent updates for windows 7 and now after rebooting I have a black screen with my mouse cursor. Nothing else loads. I can start the task manager but that's about it, what happened?

This happened on 3 of our computers, all using windows 7 with the latest updates installed.

    Screenshots with snipping tool unfindable??

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 04:29 PM PST

K, so I have a issue with Windows Security, keeps harassing me every time I try to connect to Windscribe VPN, don't know username and password, since I've tried Microsoft account, VPN account, PC login info, and all failed, and then when I go to Microsoft "Ask a question", a guy named Greg Carmack shows up, tells me I oughta screenshot with Snipping tool, and then when I ask exactly HOW to find the screenshot I took with Snipping tool (I used Windows + Shift + S, then the spot where I marked for a screenshot blinked white and nothing else happens.), I get no reply. For 2 hours. And then when I try to google it up, I only get misleading "tutorial" videos that don't even explain where it is.

And now I'm sitting here wasting my evening typing all of this up.

Could someone PLEASE give me some CONSTRUCTIVE HELP here?

Letting people use computer, how to make sure they don't install malicious software?

Letting people use computer, how to make sure they don't install malicious software?

Hello. I am planning on letting others use my computer to play games and stuff. I won't always be around when they are on. Is there a way I can prevent anything malicious/unwanted from being installed or perhaps to at least be able to check to make sure everything is safe?

I know software like Prey runs silently and invisibly in the background, though I don't want to use prey or anything. I was looking into Windows Event Logs and the Windows Event Collector, but it won't always be connected to the internet and I'm worried someone could delete the logs both in the event viewer and being stored in the temporary offline collector folder.

    Any advice?

Is it possible to user Windows 10 login screen as Digital Signage

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 12:59 PM PST

    Hi all,

Within Settings > Personalization > Lock Screen there is an option to have the Background be a slide show. Is there a way to allow that to run that lock screen slideshow prior to a user logging into the device? At first launch have the system start running through the slides until a user goes to login.

Alternatively, any recommended third party options that folks have had success with? Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

Basically, I'm on Windows 10/7 and I wanted to know how to edit the text and input an animation, sort of like a game: said character will prompt you to log in and after you log on they will say something like 'all set'

MSTSC | "Remote Desktop has stopped working..." since 12/6/2019

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 11:27 AM PST

Hey, has anyone been having issues with MSTSC since December 6th? Everything was working prior to this but now I consistently get the error "Remote desktop has stopped working..." when trying to connect to my remote machine. Both machines are running Windows 7 and are up to date on their patches. I have tried it both with and without printer services enabled. Any ideas?

Hope this qualifies as a 'bug' but I think it is update related...

Custom Pie Menu/Mark Menu for Windows?

Custom Pie Menu/Mark Menu for Windows?

    https://preview.redd.it/wn8ap6da34441.png?width=489&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ee6287a52787c29ba66071901a2b5c91ff42f99

Anyone who has used Autodesk Maya before would be familiar with their "Mark Menu" or "Pie Menu", allowing the user to use a combinations of ctrl/shift/alt + Right Click and drag to select an option from the menu.

The menu options will change depending on what combination of ctrl/shift/alt you hold down.

I really love this gesture style of working and am wondering if anyone know of a program that would allow me to make custom menus to do certain things within other programs in windows?

For example, I would like to make a menu for graphic design programs I use that might include things like, New Layer, Duplicate, Mirror etc.

Does anyone know if a program like this exists?

Best/easiest way to transfer windows 10 form internal SATA SSD to NVME?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 07:49 AM PST

    Hello,

I was hoping someone could give me a little guidance on this. I bought an awesome prebuilt gaming tower from Bestbuy about a year ago. i7 8700, RTX 2070, 16gb on sale for $1,199. I thought it was a mistake so I bought it and ran out like I stole it. Anyway. the internal SSD was a 1tb SATA. I have since installed 3 other internal 1tb SATA drives for games/movies ect. There is an empty NVME expansion slot on my MOBO.

I am noticing that booting and various other OS tasks just aren't zipping like they should, and I have heard that SATA SSD drives are far inferior to NVME when it comes to OS, so my question is - how do I completely transfer my OS and all settings/profiles ect to an NVME were I to install one?

I have heard mixed things online like sometimes the OS "keys" are stored at bios level, or inside the MB so when you go to reinstall windows it shouldn't ask for a key.

Windows desktop fails to load after booting

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 09:44 AM PST

    Hello

When I start my computer and log in to my account then my desktop fails to load and only shows my cursor and background.

    I'm running Windows 7

EDIT: I'm pretty sure it has something to do with my display driver. When I uninstalled it, my desktop loaded fine but had weird resolution and then Windows reinstalled the display driver and then the desktop didn't load again

Webcam problem, is it because of Windows ?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 08:45 AM PST

Last friday, my webcam (from my laptop) was working well but since yesterday, when I want to use it on skype it's a black screen that I've got and on website I have the ""You refused access to your devices" eventhough I just clicked "allow"...

It's making me crazy... What I should I do? I already uninstalled/re-installed chrome but nothing changed, I checked in settings about the permission and I deactivated my webcam temporary, but nothing.

I'm using a seagate USB 3 external hdd connected to my windows PC via USB on my motherboard. I've a second USB port micro cable attached to my PC motherboard, which I sometimes attach either my phone or mouse to

whenever I attach my mouse or phone to the 2nd USB cable it always makes my external hdd disconnect from the PC for a split second - I'm wondering if there's anything ican do to prevent it from disconnecting whenever a device attaches to another USB on the PC

Is it possible to re-activate windows 10 after a significant harware change?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 04:44 AM PST

I recently switched out my motherboard, CPU and RAM, and thought that I would be able to activate widows afterwords. I linked the license to my Microsaft account before the change, but I can't activate it with the "I changed hardware on this device recently" link.

On the phone, Microsoft told me that if you switch out more than one part, you will not be able to re-activate the license, but with a simple google search I've found the plenty of people have done this successfully. An other method people er using seem to be simply deactivating the license before the hardwarechanges, then activating it using the same product key.

Does anyone know if it is possible to activate widows when the hardwarechanges has already been done?

Btw: The windows 10 pro I'm running is from an upgraded windows 7 Professional.

How do i downgrade to Windows 7 from Windows 10?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 02:13 PM PST

Yes, i know support is ending for Windows 7. I don't care. I just don't want to use Windows 10 ever again.

I can't use the rollback feature that comes with the OS.
