Posted: 25 Dec 2019 08:44 PM PST I do a range of things on my computer and am looking for really good performance. 240hz is really nice, I've used 240hz screens before and absolutely love the buttery smoothness. I'm wondering if it's worth sacrificing the 240hz screen for a 144hz and the 2080 max-q for a 2070 max-q, as I've heard that the MAG-15 has really good thermals. Is the thermal trade off worth it, and would it give the performance back? Thanks for anyone who can help, - Phib [link] [comments] |
2017/18 Macbook Pro still worth it? Posted: 26 Dec 2019 03:58 AM PST Looking to get a new laptop for University, and thinking of a second hand 2017 or 18 15" Macbook Pro. The laptops use would mostly consist of Digital Audio Workstations like Ableton 10 and Pro Tools(Moderate to High CPU usage), as well as standard uni work so portability and a decent battery life is a must. Never had a mac before and I'm aware of the new 16" being deemed as the king of all, but its simply not within my budget. Another option I'm thinking of is one of the newer Dell XPS models, possibly the 15 2 in 1 9575 or just the 7590, a bonus possibility to these would be a little bit of light gaming as well, but that is far from my main focus. Any other suggestions are welcomed but can anyone help? [link] [comments] |

Why did large display laptops vanished from mainstream market ? Posted: 26 Dec 2019 02:18 AM PST Hello everyone, I'm trying to find a good replacement for an old laptop ( Acer aspire 8942g ) but this task turns out to be harder than I thought. For some reason I can't find any laptop wider than 17.3 '' on popular ressources. I'm confused because it's my main criteria and there's just no offer. I did find some 4000$ gaming pcs or weird laptops shaped like military suitcases but breh I just want the normal stuff. Are large laptops not a thing anymore ? Edit : forgot the form Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad) ? Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? No, sound quality, video camera quality, and battery life don't matter as I won't be using them. I do prefer a nice array of USB ports and other handy ports for my cause. A backlit keyboard would be nice. Touchpad doesn't matter as I use a mouse. If possible, have 3 USB type A ports. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Just like to restate that all I need this for is music engineering and graphic design. RAM, ports, and display are probably my top 3 items. I'm looking for an ok budget that can go cheap (around $600 if possible) on eBay. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Dec 2019 09:29 AM PST Hi guys, I need your help, please. I am looking for a Laptop with a good display (good color correctness) as it will be used for graphic design. Most suggestions in the realm of my specs point to the Dell G Series or HP Pavilion. However, I have read, that the Dell ones do not have the best screens and HP Laptops are not really reliable and long lasting. Thus, I am wondering if you have any other suggestions or input regarding the Dell/HP Laptops. Thanks so much. I am happy with less spent, but if spending more gets me a great boost I'll take it. I dont mind upgrading ram/ssd after purchasing if it brings cost down, I can sort out own OS if need be. Cheers! I bloody suck at working out what a good deal is with this stuff. If you have any more questions drop a comment. [link] [comments] |
Help me find a laptop for my needs? Posted: 25 Dec 2019 11:22 PM PST I will use the laptop for coding/web browsing. I don't do GPU coding nor image/video processing. I will use it on my lap, on the couch, so being lightweight and cool/quiet is a big plus. I like rugged laptops that last me years (think old thinkpads) but I also appreciate slick MacBook Air design. I enjoy working with a Mac and I haven't had a windows machine in 4-5 years so I'm not sure if the blue screen is still a thing. I want to get into pc gaming, last time I played anything it was Red Alert and Medal of Honor. I use Linux for work I'm not sure if that helps here. [link] [comments] |

On the edge of switching to a Laptop Posted: 25 Dec 2019 11:10 PM PST I've always been a desktop gamer. My current PC is one I built myself 6 years ago and have upgraded a few times. Unfortunately a number of the parts are reaching the end of their lifespan and I've found myself in a bit of a pickle. Most of the games I play are pretty demanding (Destiny 2, Assassins Creed Odyssey, kingdom come deliverance, etc). Im a college student living on campus (US) and having a desktop PC has become increasingly impractical. I'm on the verge of switching to a Laptop and was hoping I could have some sugesstions/questions answered. I need something capable of runnung the aforementioned games at 60 FPS that has a pretty solid battery life, is not extremely unwieldy and will hopefully last me the rest of college. Do any laptops meet those criteria, or is that just expecting too much? My budget is $2,000.00 with some flexibility if need be. [link] [comments] |
2 in 1 to be used for work when away from desktop. 3D game artist Posted: 25 Dec 2019 09:43 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $1800AUD (about $1200ishUSD) but hopefully can spend less as this is just a secondary item Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? I would like it to have a good battery life due to a few very long flights coming up, I think that I will need to get a portable laptop charger also. The best performance I can get for the money is great, but due to being secondary to my workstation pc, I am not too concerned. Around this price it seems as tho 8gb ram is the max I can get. But 16gb would be ideal Mostly using substance designer, which mostly uses cpu rather than gpu. Been looking at the dell xps 2 in 1 15 inch. Looking for a laptop for university Posted: 25 Dec 2019 09:13 PM PST I'm looking for a laptop to last me for the rest of university (And hopefully a few years after). I may occasionally play a few games on it, but it wouldn't be any high-end games. My budget is ~750$, but I may consider buying a more expensive laptop if it's a massive discount. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

Please Help: A laptop that ISN'T a Surface Product Posted: 25 Dec 2019 04:45 PM PST I have no idea about laptops, so forgive me if I can't answer part of these questions. Total budget and country of purchase: USA. Hopefully around 1,100 USD. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I would like 2 in 1 as long as the laptop is lap friendly and not flimsy. A good battery life is very important to me. My school is old and half the outlets don't work in the classrooms so being pre-charged and holding a charge will be a game changer. How important is weight and thinness to you? It isn't. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows, please. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I have trouble seeing so something around 15 inches would be awesome. Keeps me focused and not distracted by my surroundings. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I game a little. Minecraft and Stardew Valley are the only games I play on there right now. Having Minecraft not lag while loading the blocks in front of me would be amazing. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Minecraft lags on my old laptop. I remember having to set it to load fewer blocks than normal so it wouldn't lag as badly. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A strong keyboard is a must. I'll be writing lesson plans/papers and gaming a little on this new laptop so not getting the keys stuck would be great. I would also like a number pad. It just feels wrong without a number pad. I also use a USB mouse instead of the touchpad (more control) so I would like more than one USB port. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I don't know when my parents bought this Surface for me. I want them to be able to return it and get a full refund, but they don't want to do that until I have a different laptop picked out and my dad runs it through his bracket. I feel disgusting for being upset that they got me a Surface, but the thing drives me up the wall. I hate it so much. EDIT: They purchased me a Surface Pro 7. I don't understand the specs very well, but I would like something with the same storage/memory. If anyone would like to ELI5 the terms, that would be amazing. Any help you could give me is very much appreciated. Thank you so much in advance. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Dec 2019 01:59 PM PST I'm most probably moving away to go study and would need to purchase a good laptop that supports photo editing with a good and accurate display. At home i have a 4k monitor which is perfect, so anything close to that would be great. I've been looking at Microsoft surface products but wouldn't be opposed to something a little e cheaper. Posted: 25 Dec 2019 06:50 PM PST Hello everyone, I am looking for some guidance and suggestions for finding a new laptop, since the old one I have currently cannot do any of the tasks I throw at it without everything becoming a slideshow and eventually crashing. Specifically, I need a laptop (around $2000 or less) that is capable of programming and heavy virtualization (5 or more VMs running at the same time) as well as some photo and video editing on the side. The laptop also needs to have plenty of USB ports and support for an external docking station VIA USB-C. Internal storage is not a big issue for me (as I keep most of my data on external drives), but I would prefer 512 GB of internal storage if possible since the programs I use take up plenty of space. Many people would recommend me a Gaming Laptop because of what I plan to do, but I'm aiming for something in the business/enterprise market, since laptops in that market tend to be much more durable/reliable and easy to upgrade/repair, where as their consumer counterparts are usually the exact opposite. I also do not want to get anything from Apple and Acer, since I have had very poor experiences with many products from both of those companies. If anyone is able to find a laptop that fits my needs, then I give you my thanks in advance. Also, sorry if a laptop that meets my needs is non-existent at my current budget.

Looking for a good laptop for lightroom and heavy photoshop filest Posted: 25 Dec 2019 02:25 PM PST Hi! A days ago, I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga 3Gen. I love the screen because it's 2k & 99% srgb, but the problem is in the realm, it only has 8gigs & can't expand the ram. I'm looking for a new computer who can handle a good color accuracy & manage good photoshop, Lightroom & light after effects rendering, but I can't get the best. I'm thinking about Thinkpad x1 Carbon 6gen with i7 & 16gigs of ram, or the Thinkpad T490s who has a better i7 processor (1.9 to 4.6GHz). with 16gigs of ram. The other option is Thinkbook 13, With an i7 (same as T490s) & the option to expand the RAM up to 32gigs, the only problem is the screen, I think is too tiny, thinking about the aspect ratio. Other rare option its to buy a Lenovo 340s, upgrading the ram & changing the screen to a 100% srgb screen. Do you have other options for me? Thanks, sorry for my English, but I talk in Spanish, thanks. [link] [comments] |
