Posted: 01 Dec 2019 12:23 AM PST My rough budget is really low, at around $300 USD for a laptop —I have a desktop, but miss the freedom of working on-the-go. I would likely prioritize the performance over the battery life. If I can get a good 3 hours of work in without it dying on me, I'll be happy. I generally work in shops with outlets, however, so I'm not to concerned about the battery life. Weight and thinness is inconsequential to me. I want something that can survive being knocked around in a backpack and I don't need it to look pretty or be a feather. For the OS, I'm assuming Windows is my best bet. I'd love a new MacBook, but the cost is out of the question as of now. For screen size, the larger and higher resolution, the better. I'd prefer something over 13", but it is not a make or break point for me. I need the colors to be vibrant and sharp. My primary use is editing my traditional illustration scans using Photoshop. I often have several project files open along with a litany of browser tabs while I work. I realize I might need to sacrifice some of these bad habits for the price I'm asking, so really... I would like something that handles the Adobe suite in a stellar fashion and just allow me to save reference imagery and illustration files for uploading online. No gaming needs. Graphics card might need to be decent for the Photoshop requirements only. I don't need a touchscreen, but I do need a USB port for compatibility with my Wacom tablet. Maybe I'm asking too much for the price, but I'd love to hear any recommendations. Thanks for reading! 💜 [link] [comments] |

Looking for a thin and light 15 inch for 1000-1500 USD Posted: 01 Dec 2019 01:14 AM PST I'm looking for a 15 inch thin and light that can do a bit of everything if necessary (Some gaming if I have to travel away from my desktop which I might for school, content consumption, programming in the future). Here is a list of my main priorities: 1-No need for touch or 2 in 1 2-High quality, vibrant and bright 1080p panel is very important 3- Battery Life is very important 4-All metal, fairly thin, "Premium" design would be nice 5- Top processor, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage and a decent discrete GPU. Nothing crazy but something that can play most games on low-medium settings on 60 FPS+ (1650 or 1660 Ti for example nothing above) 6- I would love to have decent speakers that get loud, doesn't have to have amazing clarity but just get loud enough 7- Decent keyboard and nice trackpad is a plus 8- Good selection of ports, not sure if I need thunderbolt but it would be nice to have. 9- Decent thermal performance and not blow dryer fans would be a plus. That's about all I can think of right now. Any help is appreciated. Thank You [link] [comments] |

Laptop for college purposes (law student) Posted: 01 Dec 2019 03:45 AM PST Hi, I am a law student looking to buy a laptop for studying, taking notes and watching some Netflix. No gaming. It will not be my "PC-replacement", as I have a desktop sitting on my desk at home. I would use the laptop to study at the library and to take notes during classes I am on a budget too, 400 Euros would have been my absolute max, since I am a student and therefore broke haha. $500 laptop with strong build that can handle video and photo editing Posted: 30 Nov 2019 09:44 PM PST Looking for a much needed upgrade to a 2013 lenovo yoga. Will be my main everyday computer and I plan to do some photo and video editing on it. I need something that has a pretty strong build with a good keyboard and touchpad. I hate the feeling of loose keys and cheap plastic chassis (plastic is not out of the question, just needs to be strong and not loose). SSD is a must and I want to be able to upgrade ram in the future. I may run autocad, arcgis, and google earth occasionally. Gaming hardly ever, but I still like the idea of a dedicated graphics card for the other programs and editing. I've been looking at this Acer aspire https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newegg.com/amp/charcoal-black-acer-aspire-5-a515-54g-54qq-mainstream/p/N82E16834316760 but I have no experience with acer. I'm open to both 2 in 1 and non touchscreen laptops. I've also been looking at HP envy and lenovo flex or yoga. I am a fan of lenovo build quality but not a fan of bloatware. I appreciate any suggestions, thanks [link] [comments] |

Laptop for college (compsci) and light gaming, USA Posted: 30 Nov 2019 06:38 PM PST Currently deciding between laptops for college (next four years) in which I'll be doing compsci and gaming. I'm currently comparing the Dell G3 15 laptop ($600 on Monday) with the Asus TUF FX505DT ($600 on Amazon) for college based on battery/weight/specs. Also thinking about the Lenovo Ideapad L340...if it goes on sale again. Do you guys have any suggestions on these? * Total budget and country of purchase: $400-$700, preferably around $600. Within the USA. Generally a preference for Dell, HP, & Lenovo * Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Would prefer a good battery life, around 4-5 hours for internet usage. (not the kind that will lose battery overnight, which I think is kind of like the G3) * How important is weight and thinness to you? Pretty important. Would prefer to keep it under 5 lbs or 2.26 kg. Thinness - less than 1 inch, so it'll fit in my backpack. * Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows or Linux - no strong preference for OS * Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-15 inches, so it's transportable * Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Some gaming like Overwatch and GTA, which I'm fine with running on medium settings - as long as it reaches 30 fps. Otherwise, just primarily programming and simple drawing. * If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? (see above) * Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Hopefully not too flashy, like those thick gaming laptops that scream "gaming laptop". * Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. If anyone knows about any upcoming Cyber Monday sales, that'd be great! Otherwise, I'm basically looking for a laptop for college and light gaming and at the lowest price possible; and currently deciding between Asus/Lenovo/Dell G3 as stated above. Any other suggestions would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Dec 2019 03:19 AM PST I have been wanting a laptop for awhile but can't find the right one. I want a laptop for 3d sculpting and 2d digital art. I'd like a 2 in 1 to use as a tablet. But I also want it powerful enough to use VR sculpting and VR games from time to time. Will any gaming laptop work for digital design? Or is it better to get one specifically for art? Haven't found a 2 in 1 gaming laptop. Please advise. Thank you very much [link] [comments] |

About 2000 AUD, Australia and Vietnam
Battery could last more than 4 hours (2 hours heavy work and 2 hours surfing the web) or more, 8gb ram or more, SSD 256GB or more, no need of strong graphic card and most importantly the temperature must be below 60*C.
Weight: < 1.4kg. Thinness: < W x D x H (12.5 x 8.5 x 0.6). I will take it every day to school.
Windows or Mac.
13 to 14 inches
Mostly OneNote, Unity, Fusion 360 (CAD/CAM) and Photoshop learning.
Not important. Mostly for educational purposes
Good keyboard (the butterfly keyboard is OK but not my favourite), build quality (quiet). No need of touch-screen. USB-A port(s) is nice to have. The laptop should be long-lasting (4-5 years) and
The 4 that I think look the best right now are:
The YOGA S740, as far as I know, is the only laptop that I couldn't find any problem on Reddit and the price is very good too. The YOGA S730 is a masterpiece but there are a lot of people complain about its heat (In my opinion, I think the problem comes from the fan position which pushes the hot air right at the screen. The Dell XPS 13 has many discussions, mostly good however there are some common problems: the screen, the trackpad, the sound of the fan, etc. MacBook Pro 2019 is a nice laptop except for the keyboard (which is fixed by Apple in the new 16" models) and expensive adapters =)). The reason this Macbook is not my best choice is that I could get a better processor with the same price and MacOS is quite new for me. However, I am willing to buy this one if it could last longer than other laptops and MacOS is better for my requirements. I'm open to any new suggestions in this price range. [link] [comments] |

Need help>>Gaming/student laptop recommendation. Posted: 01 Dec 2019 02:39 AM PST Hello there, this is my first ever post so I am so sorry if I violated any rules.
2 in 1. Preferably sufficient battery life as I do like not having to charge my laptop to do some university assignments or If there are no charger around (my lecture hall doesnt have chargers). And one that is not loud or heat up easily when im not playing games. I noticed some gaming laptops have loud fan even if he/she is not playing games ( in class).
Weight is very important
Looking for a portable gaming laptop that i can bring to university so not too loud (when not gaming) and light enough. I had some really bad experience with dell xps 15 so I really wanted a proper gaming laptop now. I am eyeing on msi gs65 stealth or rog zephyrus. Although other recommendation are welcome. I had looked through alienware m15 but I heard it heats up very quickly and poor cooling system. Razer blade are ok but more expensive than the others. I dont really have much knowledge in rog products but my main concern for zephyrus is the low battery life (2 hours without charging?) note that what i mean battery life is non-gaming tasks such as microsoft word or general internet browsing. My concern about msi product is their customer service and I heard its quite hard to get spare parts sent. Any advice would be helpful, especially for rog products(plus price of the laptops in US/AU dollars). The gs65s im after is rtx 2060, i7 8th gen(forget series, update later). and currently its on sale for $2799 AUD. Thank you so much [link] [comments] |
Looking for a gaming/programming laptop for $1200 or less [USA] Posted: 30 Nov 2019 12:31 PM PST -Total budget and country of purchase: $1200 max, US -Do you prefer a 2-in-1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I'm mostly a spec hound since I only move around a handful of times a day, so anything extra is just gravy -How important is weight and thinness to you? I'd prefer something under 5 pounds but honestly I'm flexible since this is also basically gonna be a desktop replacement -Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows top priority but I do like Mac OS -Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I believe 15" is kinda that sweet spot but I'm largely indifferent -Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? Some programming for school as well as some photoshop, but gaming is primarily the work I'm gonna be running it through -If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? League, Overwatch, Monster Hunter World, Sekiro, etc (I mostly just need to run semi-modern games at 1080p on High or above) -Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality is obviously a given but I definitely need a good screen(1080p or higher, preferably 144Hz refresh or better) and a good or better keyboard. User upgradability would also be a massive plus but not 100% necessary -Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This is mostly gonna be a desktop replacement first and foremost. I'd get a new desktop, but I need something with at least a little bit of mobility for some day-to-day situations. One of the main things I need out of this is I need it to serve me for about 4 years before I absolutely have to completely replace it. One last thing, I would prefer something I can get on Amazon as I have some money on there I'd prefer to use on this, thanks Thanks in advance to any advice or pointers anyone can offer [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Dec 2019 12:43 AM PST Hi! I'm in the middle of buying a laptop and I have time till today ends, because one of the offer ends. In my country I can get either Helios 300 or Triton 500 for the same price (about 1700 USD with tax after converting). Both of them have RTX2060. Helios 300: 32GB RAM, 9750h, 512 nvme + I would be adding 512 nvme and 512 ssd Triton 500: 16GB RAM, 8750h, 512 NVMe Obviously I like Tritons chassy a bit more and it's bigger battery, but Helios 300 has numpad which I use in blender. And more ram/space for drives but it's thicker. I do graphic design, music, animation and fair bit of gaming. What do you think I should do? [link] [comments] |
700-900 – USA – Laptop Gift for aspiring video editor, is this a good deal? Posted: 30 Nov 2019 08:44 PM PST Thanks in advance! Total budget and country of purchase: $700-900, USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Most critical element is ability to edit videos and light gaming How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux: Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? 15.6" (or maybe 13" but I'm afraid that will be too small for a video editing screen) Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? Yes, the recipient wants to edit videos; however, I'm not sure which video editing software they will use - it could be Adobe Premier Pro, Filmora9, or DaVinci If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? They may want to play some games but stuff like Minecraft. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Longevity and ability to handle video editing. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Sorry in advance but this laptop would be a gift for someone who has been wanting to get into video editing which I'm not terribly familiar with. I'm out of my element, but I'm considering the Lenovo IdeaPad L340 15" (81LK000GUS) https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-300-series/IdeaPad-L340-15IRH-Gaming/p/81LK000GUS that's on sale for $749. Posted: 30 Nov 2019 09:08 AM PST No idea about anything technical here but looking for a laptop both for general web browsing and also mid level gaming (not running crisis on ultra, more like Civ V on med) but with a budget of like £400 tops. Posted: 30 Nov 2019 11:33 PM PST Hey ya'll! I'm hoping you guys can help suggest some laptops that are comparable to the Dell XPS 15 and the Asus Zenbook 15 UX533. I am looking for a laptop that is light, but can also do a lot. I plan on playing COD and fortnite on it, and that is the extent of my gaming on the laptop. Other than that will be typical student things - I am a graduate student. Might do some light coding. My price range is ideally nothing more than 1500, but I can adjust! Thank you!!
