Will Windows 7 work on my laptop? Posted: 09 Dec 2019 11:07 AM PST I want to buy a HP pavillion 15-6 and I want to install windows 7 on it. Is the laptop too new for that or should it work? Yes I know windows is ending support for 7, I don't care because a lot of my games like fallout new vegas and other older games don't work on windows 10. [link] [comments]
My personal review of the Acer Chromebook Spin 11 Posted: 09 Dec 2019 01:37 PM PST First, here's the specs- 11.6" IPS 1366x768 touchscreen Intel Celeron n3350 CPU Intel HD 500 graphics 4gb LPDDR4 RAM 32gb EMMC 2.8lb weight 2 USB 3.1 type C ports 2 USB 3.0 type A ports Micro SD card slot Chrome OS When I first booted this thing up, I loved it. Android on Chrome OS runs beautifully. It feels fast for the most part to use the Chromebook Spin 11. Chrome OS still has my favorite UI of any OS except Deepin OS. Performance is fine for general use as long as your apps are on the Google Play Store. The issues for the Chromebook Spin 11, and the reasons I chose to return it, come from the Linux integration. I bought the Chromebook Spin 11 because I was under the impression that Linux apps run just fine on Chrome OS. I was so very wrong. Linux integration with Chrome OS is choppy and slow. I've run games on a Windows PC with the exact same specs as the Chromebook Spin 11 and even though those games have a Linux version, they absolutely will not run on the Chromebook, even with GPU acceleration enabled. If you can live without Linux or Windows apps and just need a laptop/tablet for web browsing and Android games then the Chromebook Spin 11 is a great budget choice if you can't afford one of the higher end Chromebooks like the Samsung Chromebook Pro or Acer Chromebook Spin 13. Personally, because the Linux integration in Chrome OS is so bad, I don't recommend this device to anyone who needs more than just android apps and a browser. The battery life on the Chromebook Spin 11 is great though. I got about 12-13 hours of battery life on a charge on average. In the 3 days I kept it I only had to charge it twice. In an 11.6" form factor 1366x768 screens don't look that bad. It's got good color accuracy although it's not that bright. I really liked the screen on the Chromebook Spin 11. The Bezels are a bit thick but they don't look too bad to me while I'm actually focused on content. Build quality on this thing is absolutely phenomenal. It feels like I could drop this thing on a concrete floor and it would do more damage to the floor. Build quality and durability on this thing are great. Overall I'd give this Chromebook a 3 star rating out of 5 stars. It's not a bad device but it fits a very specific use case. For under 200 bucks it's definitely a great deal though. I would recommend the Acer Spin 1 over the Chromebook Spin 11 for most users though because it has Windows 10 and a much faster processor as well. But if battery life is the most important thing to you and you can live without Windows or Linux apps, the Chromebook is great. It's a good device if you're the right kind of user. Looking for laptop recommendations! (US, $750 max) Posted: 09 Dec 2019 09:46 AM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** $500 preferred, $750 max. US * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Touchscreen required. No preference for 2-1. I'm a student, so I'm looking for something with a decent battery life (5+ hours). I have the surface laptop now (replacing because it is broken and can't be fixed.) I LOVE the surface and would get another if they weren't basically impossible to get repaired, and can't afford to just replace it every time. Also, I need at least a USB and headphone port, but that's all that I really need. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Prefer it to be on the lighter side (less than 3 pounds) but not super important. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** No bigger than 14 inches. * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** N/A * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** N/A [link] [comments]

Upgrade screen from 768 to 1080p Posted: 08 Dec 2019 10:40 PM PST Hey I got gifted a laptop after a family member said it was "broken" Its a Dell insprion 3567 that I've used to explore linux with and fell in love with this machine. I am planning on throwing in 16gb of ram into it, maybe a better ssd and going to town. While I'm at it, I want to throw in a better display if its possible. I've replaced displays already, and know my way around a laptop. Googling I can't find a thread talking about an upgrade on my model. Am I fine just to buy a 15'' panel and connecting the ribbons or is there more to it? [link] [comments]

Should I be worried about the monitor on this refurb? Posted: 09 Dec 2019 12:33 PM PST I just got a Huawei Matebook 13 (the 2019 version), Amazon Renewed. I'm currently running the eizo.be monitor test. On the black screen in the defective pixels test, I am seeing light bleed in the top left corner. Applying light pressure on the chassis behind the area of bleed makes it go away completely. Also, on the uniformity test at 25% gray tone, I can see a faint outline with slightly rounded corners about 1/4" inside the bezel on all sides. This outline is most apparent in the same corner that has the light bleed. Does this sound normal? [link] [comments]
Can't seem to flog my laptop. Interested? Posted: 09 Dec 2019 11:52 AM PST I am trying to purchase a Thinkpad t440p but to do that I need a bit of funding due to my current lack of saving (I'm a student). My current laptop is the "mighty" LincPlus P2 and I bought it for 230 and now I want to sell it on ebay for 100-180. It doesn't seem to be selling despite the abundance of laptops on ebay and my reasonableish pricing. How best should I sell it/Anyone interested. If so DM/PM me please. It would mean a lot to me. New Laptop for Online Grad School Posted: 09 Dec 2019 07:50 AM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** Budget tops off around $800 dollars. USA * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** I would prefer a touch screen, pretty good battery life, I am open to the other specs * **How important is weight and thinness to you? Definitely not a priority to be light or thin Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15.6" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. None of the above, except maybe play Rocket League on Steam If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Rocket League, not picky on FPS as far as I know. Hi everyone, just subbed and am posting because I am in the market for a new laptop for grad school! I am going to school online so I definitely wanted to get a new machine. I will be using it for all office programs, some online lectures, video chat, downloading pdfs etc. I don't think there will be any crazy programs that I have to run. I have been doing some research on SSDs vs HDDs as well. QVC had a "Todays Special Value" on an HP computer that had an HDD and 2TB. I don't think for what I am doing that much space is required, and from what I have seen, HDDs are much slower than the SSD. I also looked at an HP Envy that had the SSD and 256GB. That is significantly less than the QVC one, but is it possible that 256GB is sufficient for me? I will also probably download itunes to store music from my phone, but no more than maybe 1000 songs. I will not store any movies on it. Any feedback or recommendation would be appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments]

Did I make a mistake buying the Legion Y740? Posted: 09 Dec 2019 10:26 AM PST I bought the 17" model because it packed the punch, it was incognito and very upgradable. But the battery is absolute shit on this monster. I'm doing a semester abroad right now and it can get really boring, that's why the laptop idea came up. I wanted to travel and play games on it, not like sit in a plane and play, but in my dorm room. There there's no issue, but I keep feeling like I made a mistake because I have a good PC at home and taking it to school would be good if I had long stretches of time and an outlet. But I feel I can't be versatile with it. I'm bothered. [link] [comments]
Surprisingly light weight laptop from Fujitsu Posted: 09 Dec 2019 01:59 AM PST I have been looking a new laptop for a while. Lenovo, HP, Acer. But today I saw a laptop which blows my mind, FUJITSU Tablet LIFEBOOK U939X. That laptop has some serious specs in a form factor which none of the competitors can't come even close. How Fujitsu was able to put all the necessary ports on a 13.3" IPS touch 2in1 laptop with 50WH battery weighting under 1 kilo? This is crazy, would not have expected from Fujitsu smt. like this. HP, Lenovo, Apple and friends can't come even close when comparing the specs weight ratio. Does anyone has experience of this model? https://www.fujitsu.com/global/products/computing/pc/tablets/lifebook-u939x/index.html [link] [comments]
Does the SSD problem in this article would affect HP laptop's reliability? Posted: 09 Dec 2019 09:28 AM PST https://www.electronicdesign.com/industrial-automation/hp-ssds-stop-after-32768-hours I am not sure are they even relate. I am looking for a laptop, one of HP's catch my eyes. I hope it could have great reliability. BTW how do you think about HP's laptop? Thanks for reading. [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Dec 2019 08:50 AM PST Hi all, never built or modified a laptop or computer before so be gentle. These are my specs I got from CPU-Z. I have an MSI-Microstar GL62M 7RDX 64-bit system Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU@ 2.80GHz DDR4 stick with 8gb of RAM. I -think- I have an extra slot for another memory stick but I don't know enough about builds to be sure. It just says in the Memory spec list that my 8gb is in slot #1, and there is a slot #2 with no info in it. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2GB I want to upgrade my video memory in order to play games like Total War Warhammer 2 and Sekiro close to ultra settings. I don't need anything to match big AAA games or anything like that. I am not sure if I just need another memory stick in order to do that or if I need a whole new GPU. I know upgrading a laptop isn't ideal but I'm definitely not getting a whole new system anytime soon and if I can at least play those games than the money isn't wasted to me. I just want to know if that's possible on the cheaper end of things, and also how to find compatible parts. Any info helps, thanks! [link] [comments]
To the guys who use Zenbook Duo, is the dual screen practical? Posted: 09 Dec 2019 08:34 AM PST So I wanna buy a laptop and the dual screen of Zenbook Duo really seems appealing. As working in programming, an extra monitor at office really helps me as I have to simultaneously open a text editor and other windows too like terminal or browser. But I wonder if the compact half screen with a different viewing angle can replicate the convenience of that setup to some extent or not? [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Dec 2019 04:08 AM PST My sister is looking at getting a laptop for my niece for school. The budget is only around £200. From a little research, a Chromebook would seem to be the best choice. There's a few I've seen but reviews vary dramatically. Essentially, requires office (365 will suffice), email, YouTube/browsing for research. I just wondered if anybody had any recommendations or had bought a laptop for a school kid. Posted: 09 Dec 2019 05:46 AM PST I have an HP Envy x360 that is stuck in some sort of loop. When turned on, it seems fine as the HP logo pops up and a loading wheel also appears. However, after this a white window flashes on screen and then it goes black and it says "Undoing changes on your laptop" and goes back to the white HP logo. It then starts all over again. Can anyone please help? [link] [comments] |
