[Dev] I created a new free open source self awareness app called Track & Graph for tracking and graphing your habits, symptoms, behaviours etc

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 08:29 AM PST

    Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samco.trackandgraph

    GitHub: https://github.com/SamAmco/track-and-graph

There are a few habit tracking apps out there already but Track & Graph sets its self apart in a few ways:

    1. You can create your own graphs of your data so you can look for correlations or patterns which can be useful for say investigating the root cause of food allergies or other problems. There are a few different types of graph to choose from and you can plot useful things like moving averages which other apps don't let you do.

    2. It has a groups page which allows you to collect and organise your tracking and graphing so that you can use the app for many things at once, not just your habits.

    3. You can set up multiple choice answers for your self so that you can track everything extremely fast.

What happened to Weather Underground widget?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 09:27 AM PST

After a dozen downloads, I finally found the perfect weather widget for my home screen: WU isn't a large widget at I think 2x2, it refreshed frequently, opened the app when you tapped the widget, displayed the weather in my GPS location, had good hour-by-hour display including precipitation likelihood, and daylight hours chart. I think that maybe my OS updated and now the widget is gone-zo! D= Is it broken and can I expect it back with a WU update, or am I SOL and need to start looking for a new app? ...and in that case, I'm taking friendly suggestions.

Am I forced to switch from yoWhatsApp to vanilla WhatsApp?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 09:36 AM PST

I've been receiving a notification through yowhatsapp notifying me to update my WhatsApp version as it's out of date. I'm afraid this means that I wont be able to use yowhatsapp in 3 days - is this something I can ignore or should I seek an alternative that's more up to date so that I dont have to switch back to vanilla WhatsApp?

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

    VPN's getting blocked?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 11:11 AM PST

Context: I live in India and I'm currently studying in a university.

Blocking various apps and social media websites is normal for university and school wi-fi, but VPNs were supposed to be the way to get around that. Somehow, my university is blocking VPN services from running too. I don't understand how this is possible, I read a few articles on how to fix this but they all have the same answer: Change port to 440 or use a stealth VPN. Neither of these methods are working.

But the most surprising thing is that two VPNs do work. Psiphon pro and VPN360. I don't know what is special in them and their websites haven't listed anything extraordinary either. It's very confusing and annoying because both of them are very slow compared to the ones I used before.

Any thoughts on what is going on here?

    Modular presentation app

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 10:33 AM PST

I want to set up an infoscreen on a TV that shows live updated weather info from 5 different adresses, a google calendar, and some slideshow with information about my company. I'd like it to change what is displayed depending on what time of the day it is.

Is there any app out there that can do (some of) these things?

Looking for an app that tracks time elapsed since doing an action

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 10:14 AM PST

    Hi all,

I have several habits that I'd like to break, and I like to do so by keeping track of how long it's been since i did it. Here are some example entries:

    • Time since I last skipped the gym: 6 days 5 hours. Personal Record: 3 weeks
    • Time since I last ate carbs: 17 days 4 hours. Personal Record: 5 months

    • Time since I last binge drank: 2 days 11 hours. Personal Record: 3 weeks

Does anyone know of any apps that do this (and preferably allow for multiple entries, not just one)?

    Thanks!

App Automate Move Delete Files etc.

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 11:54 PM PST

Years ago I've used an app that allows for automaion tasks of a file/folder to move, delete, copy, etc. of specific file formats (if set).

Eg. jpeg file(s) in Download folder automatically move to Image folder.

But I can't remember what the app was called. I do remember the UI was mainly white backgroung, with red as button interfaces.

Todo list app with persistent/pinned notifications

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 09:10 AM PST

Ok so i've been looking for forever for an app that can do this properly: Basically an app that can turn my notification tray into a todo list manager, without the need to ever open the app itself (except to add tasks). I've tried many apps that have persistent notifications but they all have one small thing missing. So im hoping that someone knows about an app that meets these requirements:

    • persistent/pinned notifications that appear after the due date and never go away unless completed, would be nice if they even re-appear after the app has crashed and started back up
    • repeating tasks
    • stacking notifications, so it doesnt clutter up the entire screen
    • no subscription model to unlock these requirements, im fine with paying a couple of bucks for a good app, but a subscription is too far

The app im currently using to achieve this is Ticktick, which works great for the most part, except for persisting notifications that are repeating. It just seems to make them disapear sometimes, causing me to have to restart my phone a couple of times a day just to get my task notifications back.

Is there a note app that can be used both as a phone widget and a desktop app/website, and syncs between the two?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 06:20 AM PST

I'm looking for a note app which is dead simple to use, where I can keep a particular note open on my phone as a widget where I can edit it, and where I can also edit it on the desktop, and the two will sync seamlessly. It doesn't need to have formatting, plain text will do, but either way is fine.

    Is there anything like this?

Existing web technologies that syphon user data and keep us sedated with minimal enjoyable experience (think of how boring browsers are here) can be used to enhance our everyday browsing experience, help us make us of the data that invariably happens, and make a huge social-good impact along the way

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 06:41 PM PST

When you spend some time in the open source world, researching what happens on the backend between your browser and the data centers that provide the experience, you realize that the existing technologies can be used a lot better than they currently are for the users. I'd love to have that discussion with people here.

Not some shmoozy ivory-tower "let's do good," but can we have a collective discussion about the value of existing technologies for the users...to improve their everyday, to give them new powers like increased memory, automatic gathering and organization of information you come across, growing your expertise you probably have been devaluing.

Anyways. We made something, it's called Indra, and we are looking for collaborators.
We are small independent outfit, and we just released Indra Web Overlay after two years of awesome, Odyssey-level dedication.

Looking for an app to record personal data?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 10:38 PM PST

I'm looking for an app that will help me record a number of personal data. My therapist wants me to record sleep, food, exercise, and mood everyday. Each of these will have a number of qualifiers (ex. How many times I'll wake up, rating scale of breathing quality, times, etc). And it's gotten me thinking of other types of data about my life I'd like to be collecting. Has anyone here made a single, extremely customizable data collection app (with .csv export even??)? Or know of one? Or which subreddit would be good to ask?

Is there an app that I can use to schedule audio to play nonstop for certain durations of time?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 08:37 PM PST

For some reason my roommate has multiple alarms that go off between 6 and 7 AM every day, none of which she ever wakes up to, and they don't snooze until after 10-15 min. I've found that if I blast white noise I can manage to go back to sleep, but I still hate being woken up in the first place. Ideally, I would like to schedule an app to play white noise for an hour at 6 AM so I won't have to wake up at all.
