Looking for a laptop for programming Posted: 27 Dec 2019 11:09 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: around $800 max Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery life/best specification for the money How important is weight and thinness to you? Very as I'm gonna be carrying it around. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Below 15 inches. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Not necessary but would be nice to be able to run some games on low settings (emulators, DotA2 and Civ6). For programming Visual studio code If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? emulator, DotA2 and Civ6 Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality and good keyboard, maybe Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Might consider if a little over the budget. I'll be mainly using it for daily programming, work and grad school. I'm also planning to setup a second monitor if at home so I can multi-task easier but this is not necessary. Thanks! Looking for a gaming laptop with good cooling Posted: 27 Dec 2019 10:49 PM PST
Hope ya'll can help me out! I won't be buying now but most likely the beginning of 2020. Cooling is very important to me. I'd like it to stay below 90 Celsius. And I'd prefer something that doesn't have the "hybrid graphics" stuff. Bad times in Linux with it. [link] [comments] |

Buy now or wait for 10th gen? Thermals are priority. Posted: 28 Dec 2019 03:13 AM PST I don't follow tech news as I don't know what sites I should be reading actively. Currently only Engadget and techradar (please give sites suggestions) but I heard the 10th gen is coming out or was recently out? Should I wait for that series before buying a top of the line pc? It would have to be a laptop preferably from Alienware or msi as I have no room for a desktop where I live and I like to bring my PC places like coffee shops and to work and play on break or whatever. My current laptop is an i7 8750h 16gb ddr4 1060max-q 1tb 970evo plus. It an upgraded Dell G7 15 I believe 2018 model. Its fine for what I do. My most intense game that isn't extremely unoptimized would be Skyrim so I don't need amazing specs and this plays it just fine. Thing is the thermals aren't ideal. Using a raised cooling pad. With a -125 core and cache undervolt on throttlestop. It still gets too hot for me. IDK should I buy now or will 10th gen be better or worse for thermals? As far as I know the Alienware area 51-m and msi gt76 Titan have the best thermals with their desktop level parts. [link] [comments] |
Need help choosing a new laptop Posted: 28 Dec 2019 12:47 AM PST So my mom want's to get a new laptop since her current one can be slow at times and am having trouble finding one that will fit her needs. Basically she would just use the laptop to browse the web and for Youtube but would also use it to edit photos with Photoshop. So what would you say I should be looking for in a laptop to make sure I get something that will handle what she needs and works fairly fast. I def want to get something that at least has an SSD or SSD and HDD. Also not sure if she needs something with a dedicated GPU or could I get something that has an integrated graphics card. She found one earlier that seemed like it would be good enough which had a core i7 @ 3.4ghz, 16 or 32gbs of ram and a Radeon vega 3 GPU. Also had a 512gb SSD and a 1TB HDD. Any recommendations on what to get? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Need help finding a seller for "Asus K501UX gaming laptop" Posted: 28 Dec 2019 02:35 AM PST I understand it is an older model, but I want this laptop specifically. I've been searching for a while and can't find a seller. The only site I found it on was suggested to me here last time I asked this question. Unfortunately, the site is also fraudulent. eBay has a used one. Amazon doesn't seem to have any that I could find. I would appreciate it a lot if someone could locate a seller for me. Even more so if it's brand new and from a trustworthy site. [link] [comments] |
HP envy x360 cp0000na vs lenovo ideapad c340 Posted: 28 Dec 2019 02:25 AM PST Hi all, I'm currently a teacher and am looking for a new laptop that I can use outside work and within work too. My lessons are mainly PowerPoint based and I often use Google slides too. I've been looking at laptops which come with a pen as the idea of being able to freeze a slide in lesson and draw over it seems really interesting to me! Also I don't really game, but watch a lot of movies. I've narrowed my search down to the following 2: HP envy x360 cp0000na :£587 Windows 10 Home 64 AMD Ryzen™ 5 2500U Quad-Core (2 GHz base frequency, up to 3.6 GHz burst frequency, 6 MB cache) 39.6 cm (15.6") diagonal Full-HD IPS micro-edge WLED-backlit multitouch-enabled edge-to-edge glass (1920 x 1080) 8 GB memory; 128 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD storage AMD Radeon™ Vega 8 Graphics; Windows Hello ready HD Webcam; Audio by Bang & Olufsen; HP Audio Boost; Fast Charge; Backlit keyboard; Faster 2x2 Wi-Fi® This also comes with the tilt pen which on its own cost £79Lenova ideapad C340 : £449 Windows 10 AMD Ryzen 5 3500U Processor RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 256 GB SSD Graphics: AMD Radeon Vega 8 This does not come with a pen so I would have to buy separately Any help would be much appreciated! Asus ROG zephyrus s gx531 vs MSI gs65 stealth Posted: 28 Dec 2019 01:44 AM PST TIA. Here are the details: 1. Rog: 15.6" FHD 240Hz, RTX 2070 Max-Q 8GB Graphics (Core i7-9750H 9th Gen/24GB RAM/1TB PCIe SSD/Windows 10/Black/2.10 Kg) 2. Msi: 15.6" FHD 240Hz, RTX 2070 Max-Q 8GB Graphics (9th Gen i7-9750H/16GB/1TB SSD/Windows 10, Home, 64Bit/8 Graphics) I've been looking for a premium and portable gaming laptop. Sadly, razer blade and alienware m15 are not available in my area. So I'm limited to these two options. There are also other higher spec laptops available but they don't feel premium as per the reviews like rog strix scar 3. I'm more inclined towards the zephyrus s gx531 because of it's better looks and better thermals. My priorities are mainly gaming and programming. I'd seriously love some help in this regard. HP Spectre X360 15 vs Macbook Pro 16 Inch Posted: 27 Dec 2019 07:31 PM PST I need help deciding between an hp Spectre x360 15 or Macbook Pro 16inch. Will mainly be using it for university, some coding, sometimes I work with lots of data so was looking at 16GB of RAM. But most of the time I'll be using it to write documents, read pdfs etc. I'm hoping the device will last me at least 3 years. My past laptops have been hp pavilions so this time I am looking at something more premium. Was hoping anyone who has these laptops could offer some advice on their pros and cons also if there are any others I should consider (requirements are 15inch display, 16GB RAM, 512SSD). Any help would be appreciated, thank you!!! Hp Spectre x360 DF1013TX $3148 (New Zealand Dollars) Intel Core i7-9750H, 16Gb RAM, 512SSD, 4K IPS Display Pros: 2 in 1, tablet form will be helpful when reading pdfs, can also write on it as it comes with a pen. The keyboard has a number pad which I find useful, and typing feels comfortable. Also lots of ports. Webcam kill switch. Cons: Speakers suck, but I'm not sure what else. If anyone has a 2019 model of the Hp Spectre x360 15, would be nice if they could share their pros and cons. Also have heard there are some QC issues. Apparently the trackpad sucks. Macbook Pro 16 Inch $3939NZD 2.6GHz 6 core ninth gen i& processor, 512SSD, 16GB RAM, Touch Bar Pros: I've heard no QC issues for apple products, could last many years, good screen. Cons: Very expensive, lack of ports, never used the mac os before. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a desktop replacement Posted: 28 Dec 2019 12:58 AM PST
As a note: I'm quite familiar with computer hardware and am capable of retrofitting/outfitting a desktop. I'm looking for something that I can take between my home and office, however. Thin-and-light on the go is handled by my Surface Go (which cannot really handle a lot of open tabs and research). I'm also comfortable upgrading RAM/SSD drives and making tweaks to a suggested laptop. [link] [comments] |
Hi! Could use some help choosing between three different versions of the Acer Aspire 5 Posted: 27 Dec 2019 07:26 AM PST Hi, I dont know a lot about laptops but I am looking at three different versions of the Acer Aspire 5. Could use some inputs on which of the three gives me the most value for the money. Will use the laptop for school, light gaming, browsing the Internet, movies etc. The first one has Full HD IPS, AMD Ryzen 3 3200U, Vega 8 Graphics, 4GB DDR4, 128 GB SSD, Windows 10 S-Mode. This will cost me about 430 dollars because I have to pay for shipping. The second one has Full HD TN, AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, Vega 8 Graphics, 16 GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, Windows 10. This will cost me about 650 dollars. The third one has Full HD IPS, Intel Core i5 1021U, Intel UHD 630, 8 GB DDR4, 512 GB SSD, Windows 10. This also costs about 650 dollars. Appreciate any help! Need some help with buying a laptop tomorrow!! Posted: 27 Dec 2019 05:09 PM PST Hello, I hope this is the right place to post this. I also hope I can get some advice before tomorrow comes, if this is a good deal or not. I've been into VR with my fiancé for a little bit but have used an oculus quest for this. we have been looking into PC VR and wanna go laptop route so we can take it with us if we go somewhere. I found a gaming laptop online around us for sale, and here i" what I know/was told about it. An identifying number for it is "NH70RCQ" From a company Sager. It's said to have an I7-9750 processer, GTX 1660ti Graphics card with 6GB, 16 GB RAM 2666, a 500 GB SSD, and 1TB HDD. I was sent pictures of these specs via email and they all say what he says is in it. I tried looking it up by the identifying number but find what looks to be the same laptop with a lot of different companies branded on them. Is $750 a good price for this if everything checks out? Can I do anything else to kinda confirm I'm buying an accurate laptop to what is being described to me? Thank you so much in advance. Also, this will do for VR right? Correct ports and stuff? Laptop Research Fatigue - Need Advice Before I Buy Posted: 27 Dec 2019 08:59 PM PST Hi all, I've been researching and hitting blocks each time I think I have found a laptop and could really use some insights on which one I should take the risk and buy. I am trying to replace my Mid 2009 Macbook Pro, and would like a unit that will offer longevity, speed, and light weight (less than 5.5 lbs). I have been turned off from otherwise great ultrabooks that have a history of complaints over long-term problems such as coil whine, overheating complaints, or poor graphics card/processor performance. Examples of laptops that I thought would fit my needs but ended up seeing issues included:
Best Buy Canada's Boxing Day deals are ending Jan. 2nd, and I don't want to wait for CES because the newest laptop models aren't going to be on sale anyway. More details:
Thanks in advance to everyone for their support and insights, I'm so ready to buy but want to avoid getting screwed over. I am frustrated over analysis paralysis right now, and it's possible I just have to choose something and accept the risk that comes with it as nothing can be perfect. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a good quality video editing laptop Posted: 27 Dec 2019 08:16 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase $AUD 2,500 MAXIMUM, however preferably around $AUD 2,000. Australia Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Would generally prefer the best specifications for the money. Battery life is not really a priority, and whilst a 2-in-1 form factor would be a great bonus it's not critical. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not particularly important, however it should be able to fit into a regular 17' laptop bag Which OS do you require? Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? Minimum of 15", however the larger the better. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Will primarily be using it for both 4k video editing, photography and creating and processing 4k timelapse sequences. I will likely be connecting the laptop to a monitor, keyboard and mouse whilst using it at home if it makes a difference. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Will not be using for gaming. Any input would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
