How Apple removing the charging port scares me as an Android user Posted: 08 Dec 2019 12:21 AM PST Let's say the speculation ends up being true and the 2021 iPhone will have no ports. Now, I couldn't care less about what features the iPhone has or doesn't have. I use an Android phone. What I do care about, is that Android phone manufacturers have a bit of a reputation for blindly copying Apple in hopes that making the same mistakes as Apple will make them successful. But I digress. When you think about it, this situation seems eerily similar to the headphone jack going extinct: Apple realized, that they could make a lot more money by selling expensive Bluetooth earbuds, rather than cheap wired ones, so they removed the headphone jack. And soon, nearly every other manufacturer followed suit. What I'm afraid of, is that the same thing will happen all over again; Apple removes the charging port, creates an expensive, proprietary wireless charger, and others follow along a couple years later. Now, you could argue that removing the charging port is just so utterly ridiculous, that no other manufacturer would be insane enough to remove it. But, isn't that exactly what we said about the headphone jack? My point is, that if Apple does end up removing the charging port, we have to make it damn clear to our favorite phone manufacturers, that we won't let them get away with it. Otherwise, there is a high chance history will repeat itself. [link] [comments]

Google Calendar Finally Let's you Move Events Posted: 08 Dec 2019 02:31 PM PST I'm not sure when it happened, but Google Calendar can finally move events to different calendars on the App. I couldn't find anyone talking about it, so figured it must be new. You previously could move events on the web. However, on Android, you were forced to duplicate and save to another calendar. If it matters, my calendar version is 2019.45.1-279921459-release. What's the most unique Android Phone you've ever owned? Posted: 08 Dec 2019 07:22 AM PST We all can agree that nowadays android smartphones look similar. Back in Android's baby era, there were a lot of phones with characteristics that you wouldn't find in another device. In my case, I was (and still am) a physical keyboard lover, so I got the chance to purchase a Motorola Flipout: A square device with a hidden keyboard that you could release rotating the screen over an axis. When unfolded, it looked like a Game Boy Avance SP. It came with Android 2.1 and its keyboard was a bit tricky to get used to, but overall it was a truly amazing device. I know there were some weird Android smartphones in the market, but I was wondering if you ever owned one of those, and how was the experience back then. [link] [comments]

Some Sony Bravias from 2018/2019! won't receive Pie update because of mediocre Mediatek SoC Posted: 08 Dec 2019 06:01 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comments/e7she1/android_tv_on_most_20182019_bravias_end_of_live/ This is confirmed by a sales rep. https://i.imgur.com/5in9TvD.png Imagine buying a 2019 model like the AG8 OLED and hard stuck on Oreo forever, all this because the manufacturer cheaped out on low-end SoC. Google doesn't allow you to disable Chrome anymore (kinda) Posted: 08 Dec 2019 12:29 AM PST I review phones and switch them every 2 weeks. I stopped using Chrome a while ago and on every new phone I disable automatic updates for it, and disable the app afterwards. Lately I've noticed that it automatically enables and updates itself, sometimes even while I'm on mobile data. This happened on OneUI, MIUI and Android One. Did anyone else notice this? How to stop Google from enabling Chrome and updating it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Dec 2019 08:34 AM PST Being able to capture RAWs in such detail on this phone is absolutely amazing. Yes, they do take some time to process and it is a bit annoying - but it makes you think about your photo before you press the shutter. And I can still use gcam for quick snaps I don't care about. All edited in Lightroom on device. Happy to answer any questions! http://imgur.com/gallery/EV4DviS EDIT: imgur compression has degraded these a decent amount, these might be slightly better [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Dec 2019 11:09 AM PST I remember when i had galaxy Y i overclocked the cpu from 830 Mhz to 900Mhz just to play HD games. So my question is Why don't we do overclocking in smartphones now? [link] [comments]

What prevents an RCS client for iOS like Android Messages? Posted: 08 Dec 2019 11:30 AM PST Does anything prevent Google from releasing Android Messages with RCS for iOS? Could they release a version that doesn't do SMS/MMS so that it could be like WhatsApp or any other messaging app allowed on the platform? [link] [comments]
A comprehensive detailed review to help anyone, everyone interested in Realme X2 pro Posted: 07 Dec 2019 10:34 PM PST I'm posting a review of Realme X2 pro for people who are undecided weather to purchase it of not and for people who own it can share their opinions on what they feel about my usage experience. This is my first high-end "flagship" phone since a while, previously I used an original MOTO X but then I switched to Motor X play and then Honor 7x last year and now the Realme X2 pro. I had ordered the phone on 26th November,2019 and received the phone and the earbuds on 30th November, 2019. So shipping and delivery were in time. Now coming to the review, I'll split it into pros and cons, and additionally I'll split the cons into a deal deal breaker segment. Pros: Build, display, performance: These are top-notch on the device. I'm clubbing these together because the phone performs like you would expect a flagship to perform, no performance hiccups no stuttering, the 90 fps display is so very addicting and you'll notice the slower 60fps Refresh rate once you stop using the X2 rpro and switch to something else. But you'll enjoy the experience. Camera(Photo): Camera is really good, the main sensor and impeccable dynamic range, I have also installed G cam, now the thing with G cam is, it produces amazing 4mp selfies the dynamic range, detail, color reproduction is great on G cam also they are amazingly sharp and detailed. However, if you compare gcam 12mp shots with the rear pixel binned 16mp shots, the difference isn't that great, the 16mp camera is very good with amazing colors and dynamic range. The stock camera is more versatile than the gcam as no other camera sensors are available in gcam except the main shooter. Also, the shadow detail in stock camera is better than g cam. Also, the color parity among the three cameras are really good, you'll be hardly able to tell whether the 2x is a crop or a different sensor. The ultrawide sensor produces a lower quality image compared to the main sensor but most phones including the iPhone pro and S10s have this issue. So, no complains. Camera (Video): The major reason I chose this phone was because I wanted to start shooting short films as a hobbyist and the phone doesn't disappoint, the video dynamic range is as good as the photo mode. There are plenty of shooting modes including 4k 60fps, however the best mode according to me is 1080p ultra steady mode, it gives you good frame rate , resolution and unlike most phones which uses the ultrawide for this mode the Realme X2 pro uses 2 main sensor hence the image quality is as 22. Intangibles: There are a few things which can't be explained unless you try the phone in hand but they all effect the user experience like the linear vibration motor. Traditional phones can produce vibration in only one frequency but a linear actuator like the one found in this and Apple's taptic engine can phone a wide range of vibrations, so if you're changing the alarm dial, the exposure or shutter speed dials you can feel the dials rotating and the effect feels nice, you'll appreciate it very much. The 90hz display is great and the speakers are awesome, the sound quality is very good with good low, mid end. The volume is awesome, I generally keep it around 60% loudness. Also, the phone is very evenly balanced; Galaxy note 8 users know this. Cons: Color OS You may like the aesthetics or you may not it's personal preference but I wish to talk about the experience of using color OS. The amount of bloat it comes with is unimaginable in this day and age, and all of them are poorly designed and buggy so why include them at all? Even apple includes pre installed apps like garage band and imovie with iPad and iPhones but they are useful and have functionality. We all know about Nova Launcher, I have been using Nova launcher since 2013 and have easily recommended it to Mi and Samsung users. But it crashes very often in Color OS. So I'm forced to use lawnchair, and I don't have any complaints about lawnchair. And my God the amount of stupid notifications this phone can put out is astonishing, I have developer options on to reduce the various animations to 0.5x but I'll get a notification every now and then that developer options is turned on. And you can't disable this notification because it's system notification. There are also a number of power usage notifications which I could disable so I got a work around, but still the unusable bloat amount is just crazy. Power Management is another thing, I have disabled most of the preinstalled applications and notifications, while in office I hardly use my phone only for a few calls(5-6 at Max) lasting 1-2 mins yet I can see that at the end of 8 hrs the battery has dropped by almost 15-20% which is around 600-800 mah. However on my previous phone, Honor 7x that drain would be just around 5-7% with similar usage and it had a 3300mah battery. So, yes the standby drain is higher. At night for every 6 hrs the drop is around 4-5% and on my previous phone Honor 7x it was barely 2%. So, yes either Color OS or Snapdragon is to blame but in the end it's not a deal breaker because the phone can push 5-6 hrs SOT comfortably. Watching downloaded videos surprisingly takes up very less juice which is nice. Also, you won't hardly care about battery in the end because of the stupid (in a good way) fast charge. *Gallery: The gallery app is weird, if you create folders in the gallery app, it creates virtual albums which are not detected by apps like Google photos. So, here's an example you receive a few pictures via WhatsApp and you want to backup only those photos- so you create a folder in the gallery app and you transfer them to the folder, but it won't show up in photos, so you'll have to make a folder in the files app and so that you can upload it to Google photos. No other default gallery works this way! Hardware buttons The button placement is weird, the power button is exactly opposite to volume down, so I have taken a lot of screenshots and say your phone is upside down and you're trying to turning the lockscreen on if you press the volume up and lock button (by accident) your phone will go into silent non vibration mode. Nit picking but yes. Deal breakers: For anyone switching from stock Android with expectations that this phone will give a similar experience then One plus 7t will be a better option even if it costs more. But apart from that I don't see much to skip this phone, I really hope that things improve with Realme OS and being their first flagship it should also be well supported as it sets the pace for future phones. Overall opinion: I got the phone with wireless earbuds for 30k, on the same day one 7t was available for 35k but I wasn't willing to pay extra 5k just for that. So, for me it was Realme X2 pro and if I had to recommend this phone to anyone who has been using a good close to stock phone I would recommend it mentioning the Color OS annoyances but if although annoyances, they can be fixed with updates so I have hope for this phone. But, most importantly, the value that this phone provides for the amount of money that they are charging is impeccable, their profit margin on the device isn't more that 5-10%. So, you're getting a really good product for the price. [link] [comments]

WhatsApp needs to store messages like Hangouts Posted: 08 Dec 2019 03:58 AM PST WhatsApp still stores messages/backups like it used to do earlier with the only addition of Google Drive integration. Hangouts stores messages in the cloud eliminating any backups/restores. Turning to this model eliminates seamless integration with the web client without any QR code scanning and facilitates better experience. Is turning to this model difficult now because of the encryption or is it just plain laziness from WhatsApp end? [link] [comments]
My thoughts on Flagships in 2019 from Huawei, Samsung and Oneplus Posted: 08 Dec 2019 04:16 PM PST Let me start of by saying I've had 5 different phones so far, and by the end of the year I'll have switched again. Right now I'm on the Galaxy Note 10+ previously used them regularly Note 10. The good about the phones is that they are easy to hold, pocketable and in my experience very durable. The bad is as follows
Huawei P30 and P30 Pro. With the ban on Huawei still going on that is the only Flagship released on Europe, Africa and America. The good
The bad? The Huawei Ban and maybe that for me, it's too simple to use. Oneplus 7 Pro My most used phone of this year. In between the other phones I've gone back to this one, and here is why.
Conclusion: Oneplus makes the most fluid phone, Huawei still has the clearest pictures of the 5. And I'd say unless you really need dex and the pen avoid the Note series. They are simply not worth their price. [link] [comments] |
