/r/android reviews: Asus Zenfone line Posted: 13 Dec 2019 06:13 AM PST Device reviews are everywhere these days. From big name technology websites to lesser known blogs, and to the rising stars on YouTube. You can find hours upon hours of review content on most any well-known device out there. For those of you who like to hear about devices from actual users, though, it's hard to find a good place with reviews that aren't scattered all over the place. Plus, many reviews only showcase the device while it's being tested and might not reflect real-world usage over a long time period. This thread is where you, the /r/android community, can share your experiences with your device. Hopefully users who read this thread can gain some valuable insight into a device they're researching to see if they want to buy it. This week we are focusing on the Asus Zenfone line of devices (Edit:We've decided you can focus on the ROG lineup as well). We will also focus on other OEMs in the upcoming weeks. We had done something similar in 2015 but that is woefully out of date so we decided to revive it again this year. Rules: 0) Please leave a top comment only if you own an Asus device. 1) Please specify if the device was purchased yourself or obtained from the company or a third party as a review device or a gift. 2) What device do/did you own? 3) What were your initial impressions of the device? 4) How did your impressions change over time? If you currently own the device, how do you feel about it now? 5) Feel free to talk about anything else you would like (eg. sensors, software, customizability, strength of the custom ROM scene, etc.). Remember, reviews are personal, so emphasize the things you feel are important! If you love or hate something about your device, let it be known! [link] [comments]

Is it just me or is Smart Lock absolutely useless? Posted: 13 Dec 2019 09:11 AM PST I first got introduced to Smart Lock with my Pixel 2. It seemed like a great idea that'd make using my phone at home just a bit easier, but in practice it rarely performed as advertised. I used the location and voice settings, so I'm not sure if one of the others might work better. I just upgraded to a Pixel 3a and was hoping the newer device might behave a bit better. Honestly, I think it's worse. I have to fingerprint unlock or input my PIN whenever I want to use my phone. I work from home most of the time, so I should almost never be getting the lock screen, but that's not the case at all. Voice match never works either. I want to just tell the Assistant to turn off my lights or change my thermostat temp and every time it asks me to unlock before performing the action. I really don't get it. Google knows my location 24hrs a day yet it can't recognize that I'm home and just leave my phone unlocked? And it always recognizes "Hey Google" but can't ever feel confident that I'm the one saying it? It'd be a great feature if it worked, but I feel that it's success rate is below 10% for me. Microsoft's SMS Organizer for message is what inbox was to email. Posted: 12 Dec 2019 10:34 PM PST I have been using SMS Organizer for a week and I love this app. It Organise the message to tabs and give a clean view. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.android.smsorganizer PS. It doesn't have RCS but non of my friends have RCS so I don't use it. [link] [comments]

Thoughts on Xiaomi redmi note 8 pro after a week of heavy usage. Posted: 12 Dec 2019 10:15 PM PST First, I'd like to mention that I have the variant with 8GB ram and 128GB storage. Alright, let's get started. First impressions-- It comes with a lot of bloatware and ads integrated in the Miui OS, although not a problem since most of them can be easily removed. The chipset on this phone is a beast, the mediatek Helio g90t beats the Snapdragon 730 easily. I ran ppsspp emulator (with vulkan) and got an easy 60 fps in God of war-ghost of Sparta without a lot of hacks or enhancements, all the while the cpu usage was just around 35 percent. The 4500 mah battery is good too, lasts 1.5 days for me and the 18w fast charger can juice it up quickly. I don't know much about cameras, I don't really use them but I took a few pictures just to test it and they seemed okay. Some other features I value in it are the headphone jack and micro SD card slot. So the 128gb storage can be extended. The best thing, it costs 18,000 INR which is i think a really good price. I'd rate it 8/10, would have been better if xiomi didn't show ads. [link] [comments]

Does anyone miss the old adaptive brightness? Posted: 12 Dec 2019 09:07 PM PST I remember in the Lollipop/Oreo days, adaptive brightness would work something like this:
The problem with the current system is that there is always a 1-to-1 mapping between ambient light and display brightness, but I often require different brightness levels in different situations. For example, if I'm laying in bed with the lights off, I want the screen to go as dim as it can go, but if I'm driving at night with my GPS, even though it's just as dark outside, I need the screen to be a bit brighter so I can see it easily. Basically, I feel like the new adaptive brightness is much less flexible, and I wish there were a way to go back to the old system. Anyone else feel the same way? Edit: I guess it's just me lol. Still wish there were a mod or something that could bring back the old way. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Dec 2019 10:48 PM PST The last 60+ period developers have complained that their apps released within this period do not show up on the Googleplay search at all. Obviously developers are seriously upset. On one hand alot of users like this because there is less clutter and easier navigation. On the other hand some users like more choices, even if some of the choices are spam. What do you feel as an Android user about this issue? [link] [comments] |
