November update broke DisplayPort and doesnt properly shut down PC Posted: 23 Nov 2019 06:52 PM PST Ever since I installed the november update, display port does not work on my PC anymore. HDMI works fine, my monitor and graphics card both detect that a DisplayPort cable is inserted yet there is no picture. Another thing I notice is that my PC never fully shuts down. I have no idea what causes it. I turn it off within windows, all my screens and my KnB turn off, but the rgb of my graphics card and motherboard dont. Originally I thought that it was updating but after waking up the next day it was still on. I couldnt interact with anything so I force shutdown via case button and thats when the DisplayPort issues started happening. Even after that, it still refuses to fully shutdown without me forcing it down. Should I just go back to a restore point and see if that fixes the issue? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Nov 2019 06:48 PM PST groove isn't sorting songs into the same album. i have several songs in one album but for some reason some of them are separated. the main one has already detected and sorted the artist, genre, and release year, but the other two 'albums' still have 'unknown artist/genre'. do i just need to wait or is this a bug [link] [comments]
Is there any ways now to create a boot disk for XP SP1? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 06:31 PM PST I've been search high and low and the oldest AIK i can find in ms website is for XP SP2. I am trying to backup and super old PC for my company and there are no specs and documentation left behind. I was told i cannot do any windows updates by the dept mgr as it will make a critical software in the PC not work. So, my only option is to clone the Harddisk, but i cannot find any ways to create a XP bootable disk and hopeful with a backup software support it so i can clone the disk. [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2019 08:01 PM PST Windows 7 Ultimate crashes whenever I install my Radeon HD 5450 drivers. I used windows 10 but that had the same issue. On windows 10 it was "Video_TDR_Failiure" what failed:atikmpag.sys. I can not set my display resolution as high as my monitor. [link] [comments]
Two monitors, primary monitors randomly goes black when in full screen Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:04 PM PST First monitor is a 144hz 1440p. Second is a 60hz 1080p. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:02 PM PST has anyone seen this message randomly typed into your search bar? "cool right543210109876543210" I don't know where it came from, I ran a security check and it was fine. I watched these letters enter the search bar one by one without saying anything or touching the keyboard. has this happened to anyone else, I've never used this subreddit so IDK if this is the right thing to do. I just need to make sure my computer is safe as soon as possible. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Nov 2019 05:42 PM PST I have been searching for the background for Kiddos on Windows 95 and I can't seem to find it anywhere. I remember it being a kid lying on a beach listening to a walk-man. Does anyone here know what I am talking about and/or where to find it? [link] [comments]

Desktop apps cannot access webcam Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:50 PM PST As title says. Been working remotely on my mother's laptop for a few hours, updating drivers, testing various configurations to see if I could get the webcam working, only to suddenly realize the situation. The Windows camera app could access the camera, but no other things could. Then I realized all the other things are desktop apps, so I tried installing Facebook Messenger through the Windows Store. Behold, it can access the camera. I've checked permissions, and "Allow desktop apps" is enabled. I've tried toggling that, to no avail. This makes zero sense to me. While my mother now has a working way to get video calling on Facebook again, I'd love to know a fix as we use Firefox as our browser, and I can just imagine that she'll try calling through the Facebook website as before only to then remember it doesn't work that way right now. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Nov 2019 05:09 PM PST I know, I know. Windows 7 is at the end of it's life soon, but let's finish 7 off with a bang! I present to you, Metro7! A new ambitious project of mine, where I try to give 7 a Metro theme and make it more modern like 8.1 and 10! If anyone wants to help out, send me a message and I'll get back to you. It isn't gonna be something you can really install from an ISO, but it will be genius every Windows. And better than all, everything will be done with ONLY existing 3rd party and 1st party apps, along with File Explorer, nothing else. My goal is to have Metro7 finished by the end of Windows 7's support. We can do this! [link] [comments]
windows 10 is saying my SSD is almost full, but it isn't? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 04:36 PM PST so of my 1tb ssd it's saying I only have 51gb free when I know for a fact I just completely wiped my computer and should only have at most 200gb if even that installed on my computer. I'm thinking maybe this is possibly data of when I did a system wipe and it kept it possibly? [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2019 04:30 PM PST For my computer I have a dual "monitor" setup. I have it hooked up to my TV so if I'm watching a movie I can put it onto that. I was wondering if there is anyway to disable it when I don't have my TV on so my mouse doesn't go to oblivion. [link] [comments]
Installers for multiple applications keep hanging Posted: 23 Nov 2019 12:00 PM PST I'm running Windows 8 on a newly installed HDD, it's less than 2 months old at this point. Whenever I install things, sometimes they go through perfectly fine and sometimes it just hangs and refuses to install at all and I have to force close using Task Manager. The installers are:
DirectX and .NET Framework hang on the preparing or initializing stage and Grand Theft Auto III hangs at 0%. I don't know what is causing this, I've tried force closing multiple processes in Task Manager to no avail. [link] [comments]
What is the first version of Windows that was released as an independent operating system? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 03:43 PM PST I know that Windows 1.0 was a DOS application and was not an OS, so what was the first version of Windows that was released as an OS, not as an application for DOS? Installing Win 10 on a new SSD? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 03:31 PM PST My current hard drive is one more boot attempt from dying. If I wanted to upgrade and get an SSD, what's the process of getting Win10 installed on it? It's a pre-built PC that came with Win10 Pro 64-bit installed, so I don't have a install disk. And I don't know where to look for the license. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Nov 2019 03:16 PM PST Hey, I recently wanted to increase it's C Drive capacity without losing any of the data on the PC, but window's disk management software is not allowing me to increase it volume. Is there any other method to expand it's volume? Help appreciated. [link] [comments]
Win10 November Update Slow / explorer.exe crashing Posted: 23 Nov 2019 09:12 AM PST I updated to the most recent Win10 Update a few days ago and have noticed my computer slow down a bit...mostly that explorer.exe is extremely slow. It takes 10+ seconds to open a File Explorer and will become unresponsive when I try adding a folder or do pretty much anything. I can't fall back to the previous version as Windows 10 is telling me that it's been more than 10 days since I installed the update even though it's only been 2 days. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Technical question for you guys Posted: 23 Nov 2019 02:01 PM PST So i'm trying to get rid of that pesky little "Activate Windows" watermark in the bottom right of my screen. I've seen a couple different methods, but I'm trying not to permanently destroy my pc. This video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HY-i3sD20jg) gives a method in which you mess around with some stuff in registry edit. Is this a safe method? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Have a question about Windows 1.0., didn't these apps exist in MS-DOS OS? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 10:12 AM PST https://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia/term/54605/windows-1-0 Windows 1.0 included a clipboard, calendar, clock, control panel, Notepad editor, Windows Write and Windows Paint, but it was not very popular. For example, didn't Clock, Calendar and Control panel exist in MS-DOS before? [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2019 12:17 AM PST After coming back from a glitchy version of Windows 10, it decided it would be a good idea to eat most of my storage for no absolute reason! I need some help as I'm very paranoid about my storage for some reason cause SSD's are small.. [link] [comments] |
