Early 2011 Macbook Pro 15 inch can't enter recovery mode

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 09:47 AM PST

Hi, I've been trying to factory reset this macbook pro I got ahold of from family. It wouldn't boot up to start with and I found online that this model had an issue with graphics card soldering, so I followed some steps to get it to boot through UNIX (https://youtu.be/iyDu-Y_G1D8) which involved, as far as I understand, disabling the faulty graphics card and running it on the other one. I'm now trying to wipe it completely and reinstall MacOS to try and salvage it a bit more but I can't go into recovery mode as it loads on the apple logo then just goes to a white screen. Any advice on what to do to try and get it working as much as possible? Cheers

Tl;dr macbook pro won't go into recovery mode/disk utility to reset, what else can I do

LG 27” 4K Monito stuck on “monitor software update”

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 08:30 PM PST

Woke up this morning to a "Monitor Software Update" and a progress bar that was stuck on 2%. "Do not unplug"

Left it on for over an hour while I made breakfast and got my son ready for school. Checked on it and it was the same so I unplugged it while I took my son to school and ran a few errands.

Came back, plugged it in, same issue. Tried downloading the latest driver to a usb, plugged it in to the USB service port in the back (all different ways, no power first, after powering on, etc) still no change.

LG monitor software doesn't recognize it. Though when it's hooked up to my 27" iMac I can scroll past the main screen .

Held down power button(directional for OSD input) forever hoping for a hard reset. Moving the button itself does nothing. Nothing seems to work and I'd really like to avoid buying another monitor.

    *Model is a 27UD88

Appreciate the help if anyone has any ideas/solutions. Cheers and thanks.
