Why is it so difficult to find information about the Redmi Note 8 Global (not Pro)

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 07:54 AM PDT

Title pretty much sums it up. I've been interested in buying a Redmi Note 7 to replace my Mi A2, which has unfortunately seen better days. I figured I'd just wait it out for the launch of the Redmi Note 8 instead, since it seems to be right around the corner. However, I've been having quite a difficult time finding information about the non-pro variant of the Redmi Note 8. I can see the GSMArena page, a few articles about a launch date in India - and that's about it. No reviews from reputable android blogs, no global release date articles, nothing. Does anyone have any info on this phone regarding when it will be available for purchase (I'm waiting for an Amazon listing in the US, nothing yet.)

Sorry if this is a dumb question - it just seems like the launch of the Note 8 Pro is overshadowing anything to do with the Redmi Note 8. Thanks for any help you're able to provide!

Edit: Thank you to everyone who responded! It looks like I put the cart before the horse on this one; I'll keep my eyes peeled for more info!

    Mi a3 controversial aspects

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 09:02 PM PDT

I got the Mi a3 today and after a few hours of use i can say some things about the controversial aspects of the phone.

    Display

    1. Small text is pixelated, but it's easy to ignore.

    2. The display doesn't get overly bright but still easily visible in direct sunlight.

    3. The battery life is amazing (thinks in no small part to the display being a low resolution).

    Fingerprint reader

    1. The under screen fingerprint sensor is basically invisible under the display with the display both turned off and on.

    2. It's not blazing fast but it's not at all slow enough for me to be at all frustrated at it.

    3. It's quite reliable now that I've updated the software.

    Software

The fact that this device ships with Android one in the box means it's going to be kept up to date for years to come, this helps improve device security greatly.

The software was a little bit buggy when i first used the device but a software update fixed all issues i was having.

Most pre installed apps from Xiaomi can be uninstalled.

    Smaller things

-Don't know what people are talking about with a 10watt charger, i revived a 18watt charger in the box (12v, 1.5amp).

-The super wide angle camera is a bit low quality but is to be expected with a budget phone.

-The super wide camera isn't as wide as what Samsung offers but still much wider than the normal camera.

K20 Pro insane battery drain on Google Services

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 08:07 PM PDT

So I just got my K20 Pro China ROM.
    I installed google play services.
The battery was draining insanely fast because of it.I am only having 2hrs of SoT.
    100-80% during 1hour of idle.
I checked the battery stat, it was google play services causing it.
The phone is heating up quickly as well.I followed this guide: https://www.revu.com.ph/2019/06/redmi-k20-pro-install-play-store-apps/

I already turned off sync and GPS.

What version of google play services should I install?
I have to factory reset my phone to download another version because I can't uninstall google play services which is a system app.

    Mi 9T/K20 Pop-up Camera Durability

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 08:59 PM PDT

Hello! I am thinking of getting the Xiaomi Mi 9T and was wondering if anyone has experienced problems with the pop-up camera. For example how does it do against dust and sand and is water a big problem?

I want to get this phone as it is so sexy looking but I'm worried the pop-up camera will break easily due to sand, dust or water...

Otherwise I will probably consider the Redmi Note 8 Pro even though it doesn't have AMOLED screen and has a notch...

Mi A3 vs Redmi Note 8

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 07:17 PM PDT

Which of this two phones should I buy? MI A3 or note 8? I'm expecting to keep the phone for a couple of years since I don't change phones a lot. I'm not a heavy user. I use it just for social media, YouTube, snapchat/ig, sometimes Netflix. I want a good camera as well.

Does anyone know the release date in Europe for the global version of the N8 Pro?

I see some on amazon.es and amazon.de but they are only the 64GB versions. Is that all Europe is getting?

I have an impression that Xiaomi degraded the camera software for RN7 purposefully, but I don't know for what reason.

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 03:11 AM PDT

As far as I know there were no absolute proofs of IMX586 advantage over Samsung GM1, only subjective opinions. It's quite difficult to find full camera comparison between RN7 and RN7 Pro. This guy came to conclusion that RN7 Pro stock camera does much better job, but with gcam the difference is negligible. https://youtu.be/tFoOOc_osfM Btw that's not the only reviewer who says such things. Once I've seen a review in russian with claim that RN7 Pro had similar camera performance with RN7, but that was only until he installed MIUI update. I've lost link but still can try to find it if anyone's interested. As a person who only use Gcam on RN7, I've never seen stock camera to be performing as good as gcam. Aquarelle effect is prevalent almost everywhere, AI is a damned joke, HDR is meh, night mode is average but worse than Night Sight for sure.

    What do you think?

    Should I buy it?(Redmi Note 8 Pro)

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 02:31 PM PDT

So,I was waiting for this phone for a while, I finally decided to buy it from Amazon because people seem to have no issues with Amazon.I've heard that others sites sell fake phones and stuff. Is it safe to buy the product from this site or should I look for another site? I've found this on Xiaomi's official website for Germany (I do live in Germany, and Xiaomi's are very expensive to buy from stores),so I think this is no scam. Here it is: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07Y8YWTFL?th=1&psc=1 Oh and also, what do you think about the phone?I think is the best one for its price range, well this or realme 5 pro.

I have a Mi 9T, I have a barebones monitor with HDMI and USB-C 3.1 video in. What are my options for getting the Mi 9T to display mirror without horrible input lag (looking at you chrome/miracast)?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 06:13 PM PDT

The Mi 9T is an absolutely knockout device for the price in terms of specs, except for one thing - USB 2.0 and no MHL support, which means any sort of direct, unencoded display output via USB is completely out. (Why would you even have USB-C at 2.0 spec, but I digress).

The only other options are wireless, however, most receivers I've looked at (mostly chromecast, miracast dongles) add a significant amount of latency (starting at 200ms), essentially making any sort of desktopping or gaming on an external display unusable. It'd be like trying to play quake on a regular TV.

Is there any way of having sub-50ms display output in this situation?

    Mi9 or Mi9T Pro

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 06:06 PM PDT

Previously I learned that Mi9 is better than K20 Pro for me because of the lack of a proper global version and some LTE bands. I wonder if things are different with Mi9T Pro?

To start, is there much of a difference between Mi9T Pro and K20 Pro?

And then the question is whether I should buy Mi9 or Mi9T, for which I'm on the fence.

I like Mi9 mainly for its slimness and support for a wide range of LTE bands. And I like Mi9T Pro for its fast fingerprint sensor (is it really that fast compared to mi9?). And since Mi9T Pro is newer than Mi9, does that mean Xiaomi will stop sending updates to Mi9 sooner than to Mi9T Pro?

That said, I'm okay with the notch, the lack of a headphone jack, and the low battery life that comes with Mi9.

So, what do you guys think I should buy?

    7000000.ssusb issue solution

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 01:25 PM PDT

I have a MI 5x and I had the issue that the service 7000000.ssusb was draining a lot of battery. Even in flight mode the battery lost around 20% over night. I noticed that the phone sometimes rebooted instantly when the charge wire was plugged in. There was also a problem with the otg. The phone didn't recognize any otg device. At first I wanted to install another rom to solve this issue but others said that this is not solving the issue. I just bought a new charging port module für around 5€ and put it into the phone. After this the otg works again, the phone doesn't reboot when the cable is plugged in and the 7000000.ssusb isn't draining the battery no more. I hope this will help some of you to fix this issue.

Android 10 for Xiaomi Mi A2?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 11:42 AM PDT

Does anyone have any info about the update? I emailed costumer service but they said they had "no info yet". I have the Global Version of the phone. When is the rollout going to start? Even the Nokia 8.1 is being updated to Android 10 already. This is honestly disappointing. Part of the Android One experience is supposed to be consistent updates from Google. We should at least have some sort of announcement or confirmation about the rollout.
