Lifelong windows users, did you ever consider buying an Apple computer? Posted: 09 Oct 2019 03:39 PM PDT Im 35 years old. My dad bought the first pc when I was 10, so Im using windows since 25 years. I had every version, I come from a generation where getting acces to the internet was sometimes a multiple-hour, if not days task, until it worked. Kids today only type the WLAN key and theyre online, but thats another story. Did you ever consider buying an apple computer? I have to admit that they are perfectly designed, Macbook and iMac. But what about the software? Can you even work with it after 2 decades of windows? [link] [comments]

Can I recover a baremetal Windows license and use it for a VM? Posted: 09 Oct 2019 09:32 AM PDT Title. Trying to install ESXi and then spin up a windows machine. The problem is...the server already has Windows on it. How can i re-utilize this license for a VM? [link] [comments]
Windows Defender not Letting me Restore a specific file. Posted: 09 Oct 2019 11:30 AM PDT Windows Defender mistakenly quarantined a file that I guarantee is from a trusted source considering said trusted source is me. When I went to the Threat History, and hit restore, it brought up the prompt to allow changes, I hit yes, and then nothing happened. The restore tab folded back up into the quarantined file, and it sat there. As an experiment, I allowed another quarantined file to be Restored, and that worked fine, it was restored. But this specific file refuses to be restored, no matter how many times I press the Restore button and allow changes. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Oct 2019 07:15 PM PDT My chinese input is not working at all, I have tried all the solutions online and none of them seem to work (register edit, uninstalling language, turning on the language bar, etc.) the only place my keyboard actually types chinese is in the windows search bar and nothing else. I have tried alt shift and everything but nothing seems to work, and I don't want to reinstall windows. Can someone please help Update: when I kill chinese input task, the language bar appears but when I switch to chinese, it doesn't let me Update2: i found that the fix was enabling touch devices in services, but i previously disabled it since every time i log in, the on screen keyboard pops up and i've tried everything to disable it and that was the only solution [link] [comments]
Will 1909 be packaged with a firmware update to address all the SP6 issues? Posted: 09 Oct 2019 04:42 PM PDT Fast ring has fixes to address all the nasty stuff that's been going around in the Surface line. Anyone know what to expect, for Surface users, in 1909? [link] [comments]

Itunes - Windows Store App version, not opening after 40-60 minutes of minimized Idle. Posted: 09 Oct 2019 08:13 PM PDT I've been using the latest windows app version of itunes and when it's minimized for too long, it doesn't open when I click on the pinnned Icon on the taksbar. Is there anyway to fix this at my end or is it an app issue that needs to be fixed by apple? [link] [comments]
Skip Windows10 Installation Prompts/Screens Posted: 09 Oct 2019 07:39 PM PDT Hey! Anyone know if/how you can skip past all the Windows 10 installation prompts/screens? E.g. connect to network, privacy checkboxes, keyboard layout, choose a local account username/password, etc, etc. Obviously this isn't a very clear or ideal feature for most, if it exists. I was thinking maybe a command and parameters or script that can be ran via command prompt/powershell which can usually be opened during the setup by doing WIN+Shift+ESC. At my job I go through the Windows 10 setup screen maybe 2-10 times a day and would be helpful if I could just type in a command or use another method. Any ideas? Thank you! :) Edit: May have found my answer here, but feel free to shoot away answers regardless. I'm very interested to know!! tl;dr: command, script, or other means that can be used to skip past all the prompts/screens for the initial W10 setup? [link] [comments]

Gaming Machine behaving badly (tl:dr below) Posted: 09 Oct 2019 03:40 PM PDT Hi, so I've got my computer, self-built (fx 6300, GTX 1050 ti 4gb, 16gb Ram), for about 1 1/2 years now, and from one moment to another literally, no game runs anymore. They boot up properly, but on the second you're about to play the fps drop to ~1 (according to GeForce experience), it's totally unplayable. I've tried so far GTA V, Cities: Skylines, Minecraft 1.14. with shaders (crashed when tried to load the world) and Oxygen not included So I scanned the pc with Norton twice (also the power eraser thing) and cleaned up my drive a bit. Nothing. Before we left last week I played elite dangerous and everything was just fine. Then I arrived yesterday and was about to play of oni and it was just a disaster, as I said. I checked the device and Task Manager, according to them everything is ok. TL:DR My gaming Computer does not Run even the simplest Games from one sec to another So I'm looking forward to good help and thanks in advance [link] [comments]

Corporate PC with limited user access - updating firmware from USB Posted: 09 Oct 2019 11:11 AM PDT Hi. I have an HP x2 1013 g3 PC, which is fine but has some problems with the monitor. I am considering to update the BIOS, firmware etc. from a live USB windows 10 where I have all the access I need. Can this mess up my corporate installation of windows on the SSD which is installed using bitlocker? I wouldn't think so. But any guesses? [link] [comments]
W7 Volume GUI Not Matching Powerbeats3 Posted: 09 Oct 2019 06:32 PM PDT I use this Bluetooth dongle to enable Bluetooth on my HP. I am able to adjust the volume and pause on my Beats Powerbeats3 in Spotify on the laptop but I do notice that the Windows 7 Volume GUI doesn't change along with it. Is there anyway to fix this or is the volume just being locally adjusted on the headphones? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Oct 2019 12:31 AM PDT Back when Windows 10 was first released they gave out copys for free, my windows 7 computer had a prompt to install it (I made sure it was 100% genuine Microsoft product and it was) my computer ran perfectly for over a year until my brother downloaded some games which contained viruses and the only way I could fix the computer was to reinstall Windows, when I finally got around to doing so I couldn't find any mention of Windows 10 for free anywhere. I know it was a thing but idk what to do, is there anyway that Microsoft can help? [link] [comments]
After replacing GPU it is seen as Microsoft Basic Display Posted: 09 Oct 2019 08:38 AM PDT Any help is appreciated, I have spent two days with no luck. CPU: Intel core 17-3740QM2.7ghz RAM: 16gb Bios: Alienware A15 Operating System & Version: Previous windows 7 64 home, now windows 10 64 version 1903(os build 18362.418) GPU Drivers: Nvidia Geforce GTX 860m replacement for GTX 675M Description of Problem: After replacing the GPU I noticed that in device manager it was listed as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. I figured my drivers were out of date so I attempted to install new ones from Nvidias site. I received this error message https://imgur.com/a/Vjg5JWW. My driver is listed in the Bios setup screen under discreet drivers as Nvidia GTX but I can not get my pc to recognize it which i believe is a driver issue, and I cannot solve this issue by updating my drivers. Troubleshooting: I installed and updated windows 10 to its current version with no success. I attempted to clean install my drivers using DDU with safe mode and toggling off Microsoft installs, and the same error messages. Update: I preformed the steps on this guide. https://www.igadgetsworld.com/how-to-nvidia-graphics-driver-can-not-find-compatible-graphics-hardware/ Using the Driver provided by user 4wh457 I as able to get past the security compatibility for the first time but after trying both custom install and express install, both failed. Posted: 09 Oct 2019 10:09 AM PDT So I'm trying to find an application like Medal or Plays that, when a hotkey is pressed, will record the last 15 seconds of gameplay. The problem with those applications is that they don't support all of the games that I play, so I was wondering if there was a software like those two that supported all games, or something along those lines. ~20 years of Apple juice, maybe it's time for something else? Convince me. Posted: 09 Oct 2019 03:37 PM PDT Hello friends! I've been deep in the Apple ecosystem for a long time, almost 20 years. I use a '15 MBP 2.4Ghz 4core-i7 w/16GB Ram and a 650GTM. My laptop is aging and I figured that it's about time to pull my head out of Apple's ass to see what else is out there. I'd buy another MBP but I hate the butterfly keyboard, the touchbar is poop, and a $3K price tag is silly. I feel super cozy under my Apple blanket, stuff just works, however, I've been looking at the new PC offerings, the Surface Pro X and 3, XPS machines, etc, and am intrigued. Is it worth the switch? Are the new laptop/2-in-1's worthwhile? How do I really compare the two?
A little help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
