Posted: 26 Oct 2019 01:25 PM PDT Just a quick question: How do these two compare? I looked at benchmarks and of course the i7 has better scores but I don't really know how much better and if it is cost efficient to go with the i7. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Split water near my laptop (not 100% sure it was turned off) Posted: 26 Oct 2019 02:03 PM PDT So, i accidentaly split a little water near my laptop and some of the water made it to the vents. i immidiatly unplugged it and put it upside down with a towel under it. Now here is the catch: Im not 100% sure it was turned off,or it was just in sleep mode (i have a model of laptop, where it is so quiet when it's in sleep mode, that only way you can see the difference is a little glowing dot, wich i didnt pay attention to. Now it is not glowing but idk if its beacuse it was off when the accident happened or my pc is cooked. Im not testing it now, too scared that even if it wasnt, if i turned it on now, it would prolly cook itself. so im asking if just a little water in vent can cause a damage to a laptop in sleep mode. MacBook Pro and Dell Inspiron 14 5000 fans on a mad one when I try to use unreal engine Posted: 26 Oct 2019 11:26 AM PDT Like I said, both of my laptops are going absolutely crazy when I try to use unreal engine on them, it's sounds like a jet engine. I don't know the exact specs for the Dell but the MacBooks on 32 GB ddr4 ram and an 8 core i9 with a base clock of 2.4 GHz. My PC manages just fine but the two laptops are really loud but they aren't hit to the touch and CPU temperature isn't super high either. What could be the issue? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Oct 2019 05:15 AM PDT I'm in the market for a new laptop. It will be used for light gaming, office related things, Visual Studio for coding, etc.. Here are my must haves. -Windows -SSD at least 256gb -16 GB ram -Dedicated graphics card would be nice, but not a necessity at all. -Core i7, but can be older generation -14 inch screen -Would like battery to be removeable and replaceable I'm conflicted on if I should buy something like Dell refurbished. Or perhaps, I should buy a laptop that allows me to do the upgrades myself? It would be nice if everything wasn't integrated. [link] [comments]

Lenovo S340, S145, Acer Aspire 3 or Asus X507 Posted: 26 Oct 2019 09:00 AM PDT All the three laptops have almost identical Specs. All of them are priced at 200 KWD (around $600) although I can get around $50 discount on Asus or Acer. Main uses are simply office documents. Is there any difference that can make me choose one over the other? Future upgradable? Problems with battery, display or hinges? Lid and base of laptop misaligned Posted: 26 Oct 2019 06:53 AM PDT Apparently my laptop's lid and base aren't aligned. The top protrudes forward more on the right side. Can i fix this myself by just standing the laptop on that side and have it be pushed back into being aligned? [link] [comments]

Laptop buying help for year 11 student (-: Posted: 26 Oct 2019 05:22 AM PDT OK, so... First off, I'm not very advanced when it comes to laptops, so I'm coming to y'all on Reddit for some help. I've seen lots of posts about students who are engineers and graphic deign, but that seems a bit intense for me, but I'm not 100% sure. My budget is around $800 AUD. As it stands, that is approx $550 USD / £425. (if it costs a little more, I can wait for a sale or find some discounts) From what I've gathered, you should look for: Intel core i5 (minimum i3), 8 gb RAM, 256 gb SSD, and 6h+ battery life. I'm just a casual student in year 11 who will mainly need it for essays, emails and that sort of thing, and browsing the Web. I will also use it for selling things on eBay, (and possibly programming, but not a necessity to spend more money for) but I'm not sure how much that uses anyway. Pretty much, I want a fast, smooth and lag free experience. So I don't want something too cheap, but I don't need overkill and spend extra for nothing. I will not be using it for gaming, or video editing/ graphics or anything like that. Anyway, let's see what you reccomend. Thank you so much in advance! [link] [comments]
Laptop Advice for Data Science Student Posted: 25 Oct 2019 07:31 PM PDT Hi All, Was hoping to get some suggestions as I'm starting my Comp science/ Genetics dual major degree next year and would like some laptop advice. I'm extremely interested in AI/ML. Would the Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000 GPU be beneficial? The razer studio laptop has recently been released, I've read that they will have an i9 model in the near future but for now only i7 is listed on their site. https://www.razer.com/gaming-laptops/razer-blade/shop#rtx5000--oled-60hz-9thgen--1tb-mercury From what I've read most suggest renting cloud based hardware and utilize all the introductory credit offers whilst learning as a beginner , I will be doing this however I would also like something more powerful incase I do any of my smaller projects locally. Posted: 26 Oct 2019 03:57 AM PDT Looking a cheap laptop under £400 for some light gaming and school work. I've found a lenovo ideapad 330s with core i5 8250U, 8gb ddr4 ram, 1tb hdd, and UHD graphics 620 for £399. If someone could find anything better then thanks. [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Oct 2019 02:57 AM PDT Been looking for a slim gaming laptop that's a bit more discreet. However there are so many versions with different gen i7s etc that it is quite confusing. My budget is around £1,500-1,800 And have found this one: MSI GS65 Stealth Thin 144Hz Full HD 6 Core i7 GTX 1070 Slim Gaming Laptop 15.6" MSI GS65 Stealth Thin 8RF-009, 144Hz FHD, i7-8750H, 16. For £1,400. Is this model good enough for most triple A games or would I benefit form getting a more powerful one? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Should i sell my gaming laptop? For desktop>? Posted: 26 Oct 2019 02:51 AM PDT I have a nitro 5, with i5 8300h 8gbs ddr4 and a gtx 1050 4gbs ddr5 I was considering selling it for just 400 euros. I currently have a corsair 550, and a gtx 660, i was considering getting a ryzen 5 3600x along with the case (mini itx case), ram ddr4 8gbs, and a mini itx mother board. One of the main reasons i want to sell it because i have my laptop under my desk, (witch is a pain on the ass to have to move) And i dont actually use it as a laptop but always at my desk. Its incredible annoying for when i want to boot the laptop into a certen os like Open Suse or windows because it wont output the startup to my monitor. Or fixing something for when it cant boot into a certen Linux kernal (loves to end up in busy box manager). I dont belive theirs anyway possible to output this to an external monitor. No option in bios anyways. I hardly use this thing for its laptop capabilities. Im not quite sure if i can to go diving in building a new pc, ive built on in the past for a friend. Just of the sheer fact if something where to go wrong. Would you recommend that i do or not? Im very picky and if i do end up selling this i should do it now because the newer models out and this one might go down in price. [link] [comments]
