    laptop for replacing old desktop

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 04:28 AM PDT

i have a relatively old desktop and i would like to replace it for a laptop with same or better specs

no budget, but cheaper is better

    location: Spain

2 in one and touchscreen is undesireable

    great keyboard is a plus

nvme m.2 drive is preferable, and so is usb-c

i will use a mouse so touchpad quality is not an issue

    specs of current desktop:

    i7 3700

    16gb ddr3 ram

    nvidia gtx 1060 6gb

    1080p 60hz display

    500gb SATA SSD

Cheap Laptop Advice? ChromeBook? 2gb or 4gb of RAM?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 04:13 AM PDT

    * **Total budget and country of purchase:**

$400 (I would prefer to stay as cheap as possible as I don't need the computer for much). United States of America

    * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.**

Ability to stream/chromecast TV shows and use Microsoft Office

    * **How important is weight and thinness to you?**

    Don't care

    * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.**

    Don't care

    * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.**

    N/A

    * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**

    No

    * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**

    N/A

    * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)**

    has a functioning keyboard...

    * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**

I am trying to buy a cheap laptop to do work (Microsoft office stuff, mostly word) and to stream/chromecast sports game and tv shows etc to my TV from the laptop. I don't play video games or do anything on the computer aside from the above and surfing the web/research. Oh, I also video conference call.

After some googling, I think that the Chromebook 3 may be the best cheapest option available. I am wondering if anyone has any other suggestions, and if this is a good computer model to get should I get the one with 2 GB ram for $145 or the one with 4 gm ram for $185. Advice on cheap laptops and the difference in ram would be greatly appreciated. If I can order this in the next 6 hours I will be able to get it tomorrow which is important for me and work.

    Sweden, 600-1000€ drawing pc

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 03:25 AM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: Sweden, would prefer around 600/800€ top but if it's worth it I can go to 1000€.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Battery is less important.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not really.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10, any version. Open to Mac.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Blender SketchBook/Corel Painter

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? World of Warcraft, 100% resolution, 25+ fps, any setting Minecraft, 100% resolution, 25+ fps, any setting

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Touch screen & good pen to draw with. Include a keyboard, would prefer one that is connected to the laptop, but open to a separate keyboard.

[Netherlands][€1000] Portable laptop for uni (and occasional photo editing)

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 03:24 AM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: The Netherlands, not more than €1000

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Battery is pretty important but I can't go over €1000. I don't care about touchscreens.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? I'm a journalist student so I'll be carrying it all over the country, so weight is pretty bad.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. I prefer Windows but MacOS would be alright too.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Not too important, I reckon around 13 or 14 inches? Light weight and good battery are more important.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Only some (basic) amateur photo editing. Might be nice to play a game or two.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Nothing too fancy, if I can get FIFA to work on very low settings (with two xbox controllers), that'd be good enough.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good touchpad would be very nice, a good keyboard is nice but not as important.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'll be using it mostly for research and writing, so being able to open a million tabs in my browser would come in handy. Thanks in advance!

Used Lenovo 720 for class, coding and light gaming / CAD?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 02:31 AM PDT

    Hi everyone !
I am looking to replace my old macbook air.

I really like the XPS 15, but is is over my budget..

I am looking to do basic things, like coding and class, but also light gaming and some CAD (Solidworks) and things like blender, light video editing,...

I found by looking around, someones selling a 2 years old lenovo 720 for 600 euros (France) (this one : https://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/ordinateurs-pc-portables/lenovo-pc-portable-convertible-yoga-720-15ikb-15/f-10709-80x7005jfr.html?idOffre=266277327#mpos=14|mp&awc=6948_1569583306_731f7dbd958f30f0cf1c90e9c28e1b42&refer=zanoxpb&cid=affil&cm_mmc=zanoxpb-_-269979&tduid=6948_1569583306_731f7dbd958f30f0cf1c90e9c28e1b42&awc=6948_1569921516_f67a2d49105d42894bc06602c494d54e).

He says that he used the 60% charging limit, and took care of the computer, which I trust.
I will upgrade the PC to 16Go Ram if I buy it (and maybe some extra SSD).

Do you think it is a good deal, and a good computer for my usage ?

    Thank you !

Laptop to replace broken Lenovo Y50-70 max £500

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 02:30 AM PDT

The hinge on my lenovo Y50-70 has gone after 5 years (quite a long time from some of the forum posts ive been reading). I am going to try and mend it with epoxy as the laptop is fine but want to look to get something less delicate towards the end of the year.

I do not need a gaming laptop but appreciate the speed and aesthetic of this model. Realistically i will be using this for a every day laptop around the house.

Appreciate any suggestions as it is a bit of a minefield in terms of choice out there.

Total budget and country of purchase: - £500 United kingdom*

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. best spec for money, open to form factor*

How important is weight and thinness to you? weight is more signifcant than thinness, nothing too heavy*

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Microsoft*

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A*

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Maybe basic photo/audio editing*

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? no specific preference*

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. As discussed in pre amble, looking to replace lenovo y50-70, does not need to be gaming laptop. This will be for everyday casual use.

Advice for which laptop/pc is best for horror games ! Newbie help please :')

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 01:29 AM PDT

Heya everyone! Im looking to buy a PC or laptop to play horror games, download music, potentially Minecraft and just watching films. My budget is realistically £500 as I don't want to invest alot if I only play for a year and lose interest. I'm looking for the best kit for 500 or under with the best graphics and ram? I presume that's what I need ?! I know I won't get alot at all for under 500 however it's the best in for me to experience gaming! I have considered buying a PS4 however the horror games I want to play are only available on PC and apparently the graphics are better on monitors or specific gaming laptops ? The 500 budget is also including a monitor or laptop. If anyone can help point me in the right direction of be truly grateful :) a range of options under £500 would be great but maybe throw in a few under £700!! Thankyou for your help everyone :)

    Laptop for uni

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 01:17 AM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: Around 700€, max 1000€ but I'd prefer to stay a bit lower. Italy
    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery and a fast laptop. I'll use it mainly for uni, no gaming as I have a pc, maybe some emulation games like pokemon but don't worry about gpu. My main concern is to have a laptop that runs quick my applications (Firefox/Chrome, Microsoft Word/Excel/Etc, PDFs,), because every time I bought a non-gaming laptop performance has always been shite. I don't want another laptop that lags and takes 5 mins just to open Word
      • How important is weight and thinness to you? Quite a bit as I'll use it for uni
    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows but I already have a key
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15" is best as I'll use it for uni, but 13" is too small for my taste
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No, maybe some electronic engineering stuff like SPICE or Mathlab but nothing gpu-heavy
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I don't care, uni laptop here
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard is surely a plus, good build quality too, as I said I don't want another shitty cheap laptop, also a good screen is a plus too
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. As I said, good reliable quick possibly light laptop with good build quality, possibly good screen, good keyboard

    Lenovo Yoga 730, Broken Screen

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 01:16 AM PDT

Hey guys, I'm new to reddit so I don't really know where to post my question!

Recently I dropped my yoga 730 13 inch, and broke the bottom part of the screen, it's still working (with some flickering if i move it due to the flat cable), I'll attach some images. I want to buy a new screen, but I don't know what I need, there are a lot of different ones on amazon which I don't understand, like FHD, UHD, with, without bezel, etc.

Can someone please let me know what I need to buy, and if there is a better source rather than amazon, thanks!

    T1000 vs GTX1650

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 01:08 AM PDT

I'm deciding between the i7 P1 4K OLED 16gb RAM with T1000 4gb and the X1 Extreme Gen 2 with the same specs but with the 1650. The P1 is a better deal for me price-wise, but I was wondering if the graphics card would underwhelm in comparison to the X1E.

Primary use: Adobe CC (including 2k video editing), light gaming (non-AAA).

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    $2000 fast and reliable laptop

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 12:49 AM PDT

I've only ever used a MacBook Pro, but now that my 2010 seems to be on it's last legs, I'm in the market for a new laptop, and wouldn't mind branching out from apple. It needs to be good for browsing the web, running Microsoft office, Tableau, video editing software, and league of legends (but gaming is secondary to everything else). It needs to be able to process large spreadsheets above all else. I also watch a lot of videos and movies, so a good display is important. I don't really care about bells and whistles. Overall.... Speed, reliability, and user friendliness (similar to apple) are primary concerns. Display quality, battery life, and storage are important, but secondary concerns. I can go up to $2500, but would rather stay around 1500-2000 USD. What would you guys recommend? I'd really appreciate some suggestions.

Need a laptop with good performance for school and video editing.

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 08:55 PM PDT

    -Budget: 1300$ CAD (before taxes)

    -Absolutely no touch screen

    -As thin as possible

    -Windows 10

    -13-15 inch screen size

-1080p at least, 1440p would be nice but I do realize it's a stretch with my budget

-12GB RAM, 16 would be nice but again I think it's pushing it with 1300$

-I have absolutely no knowledge about dedicated graphic's card, how different models perform, etc. I don't think I need one but it would be nice.

    -250GB SSD

    -at least 2.5Ghz processor

-Last thing, I don't want the thing to look like a spaceship. Some gaming laptops are just way over the top. I want something professional looking.
