Why are most USB C to AUX adapters dongles instead of plugs? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 07:20 PM PDT I was just wondering why the majority of adapters released for USB C seem to be dongles that are larger and have a cord that seem to be break more quickly? Why isn't the default design just like a straight USB C plug with an AUX port on the other side? It was really hard to find one in normal stores, but I found/bought one on my ebay. Something more like this? Would appreciate if anyone had any ideas/insight into the topic. Cheers! [link] [comments] |
Just need a hand removing gapps from this Pixel ROM, It's baked in Posted: 02 Sep 2019 04:02 PM PDT There's this ROM that has been posted on the XDA forums for my device (Pixel XL/Marlin) and it runs a custom CAF Code Rom AND it's compatible with a custom kernel (I use Francokernel) https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/development/rom-pixeldust-marlin-t3581750 Question is am I able to debloat the rom in any way? I was just wanting the base open source stuff and wanted to do away with all the google apps, my phone runs currently fine without it so I was curious if i could modify the rom to delete the gapps install part but I can't find it in the .zip the ROM comes in. It only has a 900MB.bin file. No option in the script to skip gapps. Also, even if I did install it and went in with a rooted system app remover, and removed everything related to google, would that be the same if I didn't install it in the first place? Is DT Ignite the same as Ignite? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 08:03 PM PDT LG V40 Thinq. Verizon, Pie. I started looking at what was using so much memory (the phone has 6 GB). I looked in Developer Options at Running Services. I recognize some entries as apps I've installed. But I don't recognize others at all. For example, under Mobile Services, I have IgniteService - is this the same as DT Ignite? If I turn it off in Dev Options will it stay off? Under Processes I I Mobile Services - com.LogiaGroup.Logia Deck. Then under Main process in use: Mobile Services -com.digitalturbine.ignite suspend.DataUsageRecorderService.AService DataUsageRecorderService is in use. I carefully turned something off but within under a minute, it was back on. It seems that even when Dev Options provides the possibility of turning off, it doesn't truly happen. From what I understand, I don't want any of the above on my phone but I don't know where they are listed where I might really be able to turn them off. Any and all help much appreciated. What made Samsung the king of Android phones? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 06:29 PM PDT Just curious. The other big brands - Google, LG, Motorola, Huawei and Xiaomi - all come with big reputations and come out with noteworthy phones year on year. But what makes Samsung tower above everyone else? It's by far Android's biggest OEM and competitor to the iPhone, but what made it that way? Why are the S and Note devices so much more ubiquitous compared to the LG V devices or the Pixel phones for example? And also why is it that in the US we don't see as many brands as other markets, like Huawei and Xioami and their sub brands, or the other big Chinese brands? [link] [comments] |
How do I get the app menu/library button to go away? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 08:01 PM PDT I somehow got the app menu/folder thing on my main apps bar and I cant get rid of it. I dont need it since I just swipe up and boom, there ya go. I'm sure it's an easy fix just havent figured it out yet. [link] [comments] |
Can no longer download videos from the internet to my S8 Posted: 02 Sep 2019 10:10 PM PDT As the title states, since around 2 weeks ago I can no longer download videos from the any internet app onto my phone. Sometimes when I click any download button the video will start playing in video player, but won't go to my gallery, or when I press download, it will show up in the quick bar and immediately pause. When I press resume, the download automatically cancels. I'm at a loss and can't find anyone with a similar problem, any help would be much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2019 08:36 AM PDT My little sister uses an old phone (galaxy express prime) I bought from a past friend I don't see anymore as a tablet basically. She forgot her password to access her phone, after trying we ended up factory reseting the phone to be able to use the phone again. It wanted her to sign in with her Google account. She also forgot the password for that. On the computer I went through with trying to recover the password for that and Google didn't accept it. We had to make a new email for her to use. One method to bypass suggested holding @ (or the gear /settings buttons) until the Google keyboard shows up. The gear only brings me to Samsung keyboard settings. Another method suggested selecting a word, clicking more, then clicking assist. I did that and nothing happened. Is there another method you would suggest because my sister so far it looks like essentially bricked her phone? [link] [comments] |
Device Notification Sound Issues Posted: 02 Sep 2019 06:03 PM PDT Hi everyone, I have a Samsung Note 10+. I am having an issue where instead of app specific notification sounds my phone just plays my text sound for anything. Eg. For my ring app instead of the Ring door bell app chimes I just get my text tone. I've tried going in and manually changing the notification sound but the tones the app comes with are all sorted into the incorrect section so the notification sounds are in the ringtones and the ringtones are in the notifications and I haven't been able to swap them so I can chose the proper sounds. Any settings I can change or ideas to fix this? [link] [comments] |
How is Xiaomi's battery usage? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 09:38 AM PDT Sorry for being so vague in the title but let me explain. So far I've only been using Motorolas (G4, E4 Plus, E5 Plus and G7 Power) and Samsung (S8, A3 2015, A20) and, it's like Day and Night difference in battery usage, lol. I know Samsung has smaller batteries but, I think G4 and S8 have similar batteries, right? Well, G4 I was able to get ir through my days, while S8 I left home at 7 am at 100% and when I came back (3pm) I was around 30% (despiste having similar usages). Now recently, I have used Moto G7 Power (5,000 mAh) and I was able to get it to last 2.5-3 days, without having to mess with anything (Battery Savings etc.) In contrast, my Samsung A20 (4,000 mAh) I can get it to last one day only, having Battery Savings ON, and feeling like I use it way less than the G7 Power. Yes I know, G7 Power has 1000 mAh more, but it's lasting me twice as much as the A20! I know the better screen A20 has makes it use more battery, but still sounds extreme for me. I'm thinking that maybe it's due to Samsung's software? Okay, having stated that, right now I can get a Xiaomi Mi Max 3 for around 175$ in my country (a price I'm confortable with) but before buying it I want to know, how is Xiaomi's software battery usage? Is it Well optimized like Motorola? Or is it like Samsung's case. [link] [comments] |
Certain contacts in "Messages" are only shown as a number with no name Posted: 02 Sep 2019 02:32 PM PDT Just transferred my data from an old Aristo phone to a brand new Galaxy a10e about a week ago. I was scrolling through texts when I noticed that one contact (which is still listed normally in the separate "Contacts" app) is only shown as a number. I haven't texted this person since before I got my new phone and I'm not sure why this is happening. In other words, there's no name as a contact for this text when there should be. Any answers as to why this happened and what can be done to fix it? [link] [comments] |
Thin White Bar Bottom of Android [Pixel 3a] Problem Posted: 02 Sep 2019 10:55 PM PDT Soooo this thin white bar appeared on my phone last night and can't for the life of me figure out where it's from. It's on my home screen, it's there if I want to watch a movie on my phone and is even on my lock screen. Kinda intrusive. I can't be the only person in history with this issue. I am not even annoyed lol just more curious if anything. If I have to reset my phone so be it but I still want to know what it is at this point because I'm stumped. Would appreciate any help or recommendations, thanks. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Sep 2019 09:09 PM PDT She can pull exact dates and times apps were installed and uninstalled on my phones. I know it's more than one phone because she even had logs for my old phone. Is she going through Google? Or is there an app that can pull that info? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2019 03:00 PM PDT I have a very weird problem with GPS navigation. While I'm on a trip, my GPS updates start slowing down. In Maps, this shows up as my icon getting further and further behind where I'm actually at. I'm not losing GPS, because the icon does keep moving along the path I actually followed, just way behind where I am. This seems to be progressive, for example, on an 1:30 trip, after about 45 minutes it looks like the icon has stopped completely, but by the end of the trip it appears to have moved about a mile. Again, it moves along the path I actually followed, just 40 times slower. In the GPS Status and Toolbox App, the last fix time matches the location in the navigation app. So let's say I ended that trip at 7:00, the last fix would be about 6:00, but if I go and check again at 7:15, the last is fix is something like 6:01. Obviously GPS doesn't work like this, so the delayed updates must be stored somewhere on the phone, either in the OS or on the GPS chip. Restarting fixes it until I start navigation again, if I just leave GPS Status running it works fine as long as I don't start navigation. Things I've tried:
I haven't tried a factory reset yet, partially because it's so strange I want to know what the cause is. Pixel 2XL, Android 9, Verizon [link] [comments] |

SwiftKey application sync problem Posted: 02 Sep 2019 04:09 PM PDT I just switched my old nexus 5 to a xiaomi smartphone. I hate installed SwiftKey, turned sync on and even though the data of all my predicted words exist in the data.swiftkey.com site, SwiftKey app hasn't saved any of my predicted words or predictions. I have been using SwiftKey exclusively for years and have been adding new words on my language every day so this all of then gone is a major issue for me. I mean what's the point of sync if you can sync your saved word and predictions? Anyone else experienced this or have a solution? [link] [comments] |
Charging phone battery in one go vs with breaks Posted: 02 Sep 2019 04:09 AM PDT Hello Reddit, Summer time means my phone reaches 40C while charging (thank global warming), and I understand that it is the extreme upper limit. Now, I know that if I can regulate the charge amount, I can charge my phone cooler, even though in a longer period of time. So I found my 5 year old Sony adaptor. That's a 0.85A charger (stock charger of my phone is 2A), so it really fixed the problem, 34C max while idle charging. But then I noticed a switch called "Enable Charging" in the SmartPack Kernel Manager app that was added in the app's last update. I dug in, and found that this was connected to a value located in the system partition. Armed with this information, I used Tasker to setup a Charging Controller that set the charging switch to off for 10 minutes, whenever it detected my phone temperature as above 37C. This way I could charge my phone from 0 to 100 with four breaks of 10 mins, the phone never going above 37C. Now I was wondering, that I could set an even lower threshold (say 35C) and give 5 min charging breaks. That way the number of breaks would increase, but the phone would remain even cooler. The charging time would prolly remain more or less the same. And now I come to my real question, which approach do you think is better for the phone battery? The approach with lesser (or no) breaks where the battery remains at a constant temperature for longer vs the approach with more breaks, where the battery temperature and battery state (ie, whether charging or not) keeps constantly fluctuating? Thanks a lot for reading the loong question. You are the best! Any thought on this would be really awesome. [link] [comments] |

Need to put a file where the software will see it. Posted: 02 Sep 2019 03:50 PM PDT My resume is on OneDrive, and I want to attach it to an online job application. When I select "Choose File," though, my only options are "My Files" and "Files." Can anyone tell me how to get a copy of this doc into a folder from which it can ba accessed? I apologize in advance if this is a really stupid question. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2019 01:34 PM PDT TLDR: Working with a Note10+ and a macbook, for a variety of reasons want to use my private phone as a work phone, what's your best practice approach? Hey, I'm currently using a Note 9 and my Note 10+ entered the shipping process today and should get here tomorrow. My company doesn't have a proper BYOD policy for my continent yet, but I spoke to IT and I am good to use it for work aswell. We don't have Android Device Management, so Android for Work doesn't seem to be an option. Unless someone knows a way to activate it without enterprise management. I currently use three devices in the office, a shitty Samsung company phone, my private Note 9 and a macbook air, combined with a second monitor and Galaxy Buds. My perfect setup is using my Note 10+ as my one and only phone, connected to my macbook via Dex for Mac, so that I can do all my work just using the Macbook as my primary user interface. Using a mix of MacOS and Dex. I'm also looking into switching to a Surface Laptop 2 at work, so i wouldn't have to use Dex, but we will see. I love using One Note on Mac and my Note 9 to make Notes of phone calls and meetings and working on them on my laptop to prepare or summarise my tasks. I can use Private Folder/ Knox to keep my company data separate from my private data, but then there is no way to schedule DnD. I can't find a way to activate Android for Work without my company taking part (I spoke to IT, we use Google everything at work, so it shouldn't be a big deal). I don't want notifications from work after work or on weekends and I dont want work notifications to blow up my phone, and I don't want too many private notifications at work. I do want private notifications after work though, so just turning on dnd won't help. How do you work and play with you Notes? Anyone have some best practices they can share? Thank you so much! Messages for Web--Unable to Connect using Chrome Posted: 02 Sep 2019 03:00 PM PDT Hello-- I've been using Google's web-interface for my Android phone's text messages for a while, and it's been a good solution. However, for the past few days, I've been unable to connect to Messages for Web in Chrome. When I try to log in to the basic https://messages.google.com/web/ page, I'm instead redirected, first to https://messages.google.com/web/conversations and then to https://messages.google.com/web/unableToConnect I have tried disconnecting my phone from the Messages for Web service, and then reconnecting. However, my web browser never loads the QR code that would allow me to log in again. However, when I try to connect to Messages for Web using an anonymous Chrome window, or another web browser, I can log in just fine. This seems to suggest that there's something wrong with my Chrome profile. I've tried disabling my extensions and clearing out the cookies and caches, but with no success. Any ideas?
