Posted: 27 Sep 2019 12:01 PM PDT Hi, I installed my OS on my new SSD a while back but I wanted to keep my old OS around just incase. Well I wiped that OS a few months ago but I'm still just booting to the windows boot manager which is sitting on the recovery partition of the old OS (at least that is where the BIOS is pointed to). Thing is, when I select my new SSD as the boot disk I get 'insert bootable media' messages from the BIOS. The OS is fine beyond apparently needing that recovery partition to get spun up before it will boot, thus defeating the purpose of getting an M.2 SSD in the first place. Anyone got any ideas? Do I just need to repair the bootloader or is this more likely a BIOS issue. The disk is getting listed in the boot select in my BIOS fine, it's just not actually loading up. [link] [comments]
Came back to Windows after buying a Pixelbook Posted: 27 Sep 2019 06:48 PM PDT After about a month of owning the latest i5 Pixelbook I felt it was not working for me. The display is very high definition, high pixel density but the screen is way too small. I had sold my old PC (worth about 2400USD new) for 900 bucks and bought the Pixelbook. Most of what I do with the laptop is just remote to my work PC and the usual browsing (Reddit, Facebook). So I thought a Google Pixelbook was more than enough. After some time got bored with the lack of good games for it. The most I could run was GTA : SA for Android, having PS2 graphics with an i5 did not sound right. Then when I tried to sell it I discovered the sad truth 1) that Chromebooks don't have good resell value and 2) Google will abandon the OS (stop security updates) after only 4 years. After that you are on your own, and installing Ubuntu will give you a glitchy system according to urban rumor. So I went for an Asus gaming laptop and could not be happier. Playing AC Odyssey. I do think cloud stuff like Stadia is the future but we are not there yet, maybe in 10 years when downloading a terabyte sounds like a kilobyte today. [link] [comments]
We couldn't complete the updates undoing changes Posted: 27 Sep 2019 11:32 AM PDT So I have been looking for a fix for a while now and I can't seem to find any solution if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated. [link] [comments]
WSUS server for Windows 10 Pro's, which products to choose Posted: 27 Sep 2019 05:29 AM PDT Hello, I'm in progress of deploying new WSUS server, we have Win 10 Pro machines: some 1809, and mostly 1903 versions. I just want to know, which products in WSUS will be good for me (classifications that I'll include: Critical Updates, Definition Updated, Security Updates, Update Rollups, Updates). There's also configured GPO to Defer Upgrades (we don't want to install the newest upgrades, because of early bugs etc.) If I select this:
Will it be future proof? It need to by dynamically (without manually disabling 1809 release, and enabling 1903 and so on...). [link] [comments]
Non-existing Huawei device found in Windows Network Discovery Posted: 27 Sep 2019 04:23 AM PDT OK, so I'm a little bit freaked out here. Today, when I accidentally clicked on the Network tab inside Explorer, I noticed there was a device present I'd never seen before. Looking at it's properties, it advertises itself as HUAWEI P7-L10, a phone from 2014. As far as I know, nobody in our household has ever owned a Huawei device, certainly not any phone, and certainly not from 2014. I also don't know any people who own one and it's not like I let everyone connect to the Wi-Fi here. The fact that I'm working on a seperate network from the rest of my home and only connect my personal devices to this network, makes it even scarier, as I'm the only one who should have access to it. So I started looking in my router settings, but as expected (notice the device doesn't seem to have an IP address) I couldn't find it. I also used a couple of network discovery apps to scan the network, both from my phone (connected to the same network) and my PC and... nothing. So by now I'm thinking if the device isn't on the network, then were is it? Is it inside my PC? I then did a full scan using Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, but both turned up negative. Looking inside Device Manager, there's no Huawei devices to be found. I even ran a Windows search for "huawei", but once again: nothing. Now might it be any other brand, I probably wouldn't be so worried, but this honestly scares me. I couldn't find any similar stories online, so if anyone has any idea as to what this might be, please reach out. [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Sep 2019 11:24 PM PDT 1903 had a lot to be excited about. We got dark mode in Explorer, and Snip n' Sketch got a big update. Plus, the rare symbols in the emoji box (Win+Period). 1903 was probably my favourite update yet. There was a lot of hype around it, but also some problems post-release. Not as bad as 1809... and I didn't experience any, but, they kind of dampened the fun a bit. I'm surprised I haven't seen anything about 1909 yet. So what do you say we get out and push the hype train a little? Insiders, what do those of us on the release ring (or whatever it's called) have to look forward to? (Also, are you testing 20H1 yet, or is it still 19H2 builds now?) Edit: Apologies if Development is the wrong flair. Thought about that and Update. But, since the update isn't presently out, I think I made the right call. [link] [comments]
New Windows 10 install won't display properly Posted: 27 Sep 2019 10:05 AM PDT As a caveat I am using an old tv as my monitor. Still has an HDMI plug though. 2 problems:
However...
I have tried updating my graphics card and my Generic PnP Monitor drivers through the Device Manager and through GeForce Experience. Both say the drivers are up to date. I saw you might need to manually install the monitor driver by "Browsing for Driver Software," which I also tried. Still no good. Any other ideas? [link] [comments]

Gaming Audio Since Last Update - Immanent Fix? Posted: 27 Sep 2019 09:27 AM PDT The last major update to windows borked my audio in games like Overwatch and whilst this seems to have been acknowledged I can't seem to find any info on if and when this is going to be patched. Anyone able to shed any light on it? [link] [comments]

BIOS Menu Virtualization missing Posted: 27 Sep 2019 05:16 PM PDT Recently, I've tried to install Linux 64-Bit, and it didn't show Virtualization under the Advanced tab in the BIOS Setup menu. It just has Power-On options, BIOS Power-On Bus options, and Device Options. Any fix? (I'm using an HP Windows 10) EDIT: I'm an idiot [link] [comments]
Can fiddler (or any system wide proxy) respect firewall rules? Posted: 27 Sep 2019 12:27 PM PDT I open fiddler to monitor https requests, it completely bypasses windows firewall. I want some programs not to connect to the internet. [link] [comments]
Thinkpad T420 will not boot into Windows 10 without the installer usb in the computer. Posted: 27 Sep 2019 04:33 AM PDT I recently installed Windows 10 home on my Thinkpad T420. It seemed to install and runs fine, but there is a problem. The system only boots when the oem installer usb is in the system, otherwise the system just goes into a menu from the bios where boot options are available, however, selecting my ssd doesn't start the system and it just goes back to the menu. I pried around the Setup and noticed that the boot order seems off, (With my SSD in num 5), legacy/UEFI set to both, and that the machine may have been used for networking, as it would try to boot through Intel Boot Agent and would fail, going to that previously mentioned menu, before I disabled the IBA. So now what should I do? Should I try and change bio settings around or should I just try to reinstall Windows? [link] [comments]
Why am i getting these random device connect, disconnect sounds? Posted: 27 Sep 2019 11:03 AM PDT Oh my god it's driving me insane. There's no pattern or anything. I can get 5 back to back within a few minutes, or hours can go by before I hear one. [link] [comments]

Tasks on Scheduler won't start with files from OneDrive/Sharepoint (Powershell) Posted: 27 Sep 2019 04:29 AM PDT Hello, I am trying to write a powershell script that opens an excel file every day in the morning, runs a macro and closes. This was working fine until recently that we moved our legacy network drives to Sharepoint Online. The script, if I run it manually, starts and does what it has to do. However, when I place it on Task Scheduler it doesn't open the file. I have tried to: - Placing the script outside my OneDrive folder: The script runs but the file won't open. As mentioned, in all these cases the script works if it's ran manually. I don't seem to be able to find anything on the internet, nor on the logs, and I'm starting to run out of hairs to pull. Does anyone have any idea/advise? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Need advice on how to troubleshoot an event viewer error. Posted: 27 Sep 2019 04:54 AM PDT I've been playing a game called Rust lately and I've found that occasionally at random times the game will freeze and then give a "Rustclient.exe has stopped working" and then crash. Checking event viewer it says: Faulting application name: RustClient.exe, version: 2019.2.0.49510, time stamp: 0x5d317c91 Faulting module name: UnityPlayer.dll, version: 2019.2.0.49510, time stamp: 0x5d317e02 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x000000000047100a Faulting process ID: 0x2afc Faulting application start time: 0x01d574b2ee8aaf75 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rust\RustClient.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rust\UnityPlayer.dll Report ID: fac82162-6e9b-47d6-a33f-f6743519d5ed Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: Now i'm guessing there's something wrong with UnityPlayer.dll (correct me if i'm wrong). Looking online I see some people have suggested to resintall the Microsoft C++ redistributables. Can anyone tell me if this is a wise thing to do, because I've also read that uninstalling may make things unstable. I just really want to fix these crashes i'm getting. Just to note, I also get these similar crashes on some (not all) other unity based games too. [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Sep 2019 08:18 AM PDT A few years back I got a SSD for boot and a HDD for all other. The SSD was to have my main everyday applications (Chrome, Itunes etc) and the HDD to have all other (Steam, Visual Studio, Photoshop). I created a 'Program Files' folder, with the whitespace (not knowing) and put my Dropbox in it which has about 200GB of stuff. Using Android Studio now it wont let me save my projects in Dropbox because of the space. In other words there is a space in the file path which is unallowed as we know. I need to keep it in dropbox btw. How can I rename Program Files to ProgramFiles with minimum disruption? [link] [comments] |
