How to Apply OTA Updates on your OP7/7 Pro and Keep Root

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 06:10 PM PDT

    1. Make sure Automatic system updates (Settings -> Developer options) if this is your first time doing something like this.

    2. Magisk Manager -> Uninstall -> Restore Images

    3. This will restore the boot to stock

    4. Do not reboot yet or you'll uninstall Magisk and won't have a good time

    5. Apply OTA (Settings -> System -> System Update)

    6. Seriously, do not restart

    7. Magisk Manager -> Install -> Install to Inactive Slot (After OTA)

    8. After the installation is done, press the reboot button in Magisk Manager

Switched from Galaxy S8 to OnePlus 7Pro

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 05:48 PM PDT

    (T-Mobile customer. )

My OnePlus 7 Pro was a replacement for my Galaxy S8.

Comparative differences ranked from significant frustrations down to mildly annoying:

Pros: 1. Significantly fewer forced bloat-ware apps / features a. No Bixby! b. No Galaxy Apps trash! c. Camera doesn't have shitty AR emoji overlay trash taking up screen space! 2. General snappier /faster response 3. Bigger and prettier screen 4. More front of the phone real estate utilized by the screen

With the exception of #1, my below complaints and frustrations can be fixed with UI / software improvements.

Cons: 1. Significantly weaker mobile signal, especially indoors 2. Several tasks take an extra step. If the phone is faster due to processing power / RAM then its speed is easily negated by extra swipes & taps. a. While on a call, I can't just swipe down and hit mute, speaker, hold, or hang up. I have to swipe down twice or open the call with an extra swipe. b. In the phone app it's an extra two or three steps to call or text c. I returned to the Google "always displayed" bottom navigation because the OnePlus gestures are complete garbage d. No quick launch apps from the lock screen 3. No display for "time to full charge" 4. Screen dims / turns off while looking at the screen *far* more often than my S8 5. No always-on screen option (I understand it uses more battery; let me make that choice) 6. No horizontal (HH:MM) time display options for the lock screen 7. Camera app is clunky compared to the Samsung interface 8. Widgets don't utilize the system's enabled dark mode 9. Can't group apps in apps list a. It's a PITA to swipe through three screens' worth of apps when I could easily group up apps by type (audio/video) or developer (Google & T-Mobile) - see #2 10. Requires GPS to reconnect / use the "Frequently used WiFi spots" feature

Anyone else experience any of the above? Have any solutions?

    :-)

Textra Messanging App won't receive MMS when connected to WiFi

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 04:29 PM PDT

Unable to receive or send MMS via Textra while connected to Wifi. It's extremely aggravating. I hadn't had any issues until recently when my trial period ended this morning.
I started to get these "MMS cannot be connected: Tap to Retry MMS". So I thought maybe I should upgrade to pro since I had some free credits.
But, the problem persists. I've tried a few things and looked through t-mobiles support but nothings worked.

    Anyone have any solutions?

*edit thanks for the different solutions and advice. I decided to just restart my phone and well... Everything started to work fine. I'm guessing it had to do with the app finishing its trial and reverting to the free version. Guess it just needed a restart.

Turn off emergency signal on the one plus 7 pro

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 04:34 PM PDT

My pocket tends to get sweaty in the summer heat and on the 7 Pro it leads to the screen registering a lot of presses. On multiple occasions this has caused the emergency rescue alarm to go off in my pocket. Today it decided to go off while I was listening to music and blasted it straight into my ears at full volume and now my ears have been aching and ringing for the past 8 hours. Is there any way I can turn this emergency rescue feature off since I'd rather the risk of me getting lost than have this alarm go off by surprise every few days.

What steps should I take before a factory reset?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 03:34 PM PDT

The mic on my 3T doesn't seem to work during calls... Works fine for video/snapchat etc though.. I was hoping the latest update would fix this issue, but I get an error every time I try to install it which I've heard you need to factory reset to fix. Aside from syncing contacts to Google and transferring photos etc to my pc, are there any other steps I should take before resetting to keep as much stuff as I can? Not sure what I'll lose, but I'm assuming apps will be gone, they're easy enough to just redownload, anything else though?

    Thanks in advance!

Ram management on OnePlus 7/7 pro

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 12:59 PM PDT

How is the ram management on the OnePlus 7/7pro 6gb variant. I've heard the 6t had an issue with apps closing relatively quickly. Is this still an issue on the 7/7pro and is it worth the extra money getting the 8gb variant? Thanks.

    Textra Issue

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 02:51 PM PDT

I've been using Textra the last few weeks because for whatever reason Google Messages does not seem to be able to handle group messages (especially ones with lots of people) very well.
I downloaded it and it was largely fine until today when the pro trial ran out. Seeing as I had 3 dollars of google credit plus some from google rewards, I figured why not if I can get Pro for free.
Well, I go ahead and upgrade to pro and now, I'm constantly getting these: "Cannot connect to MMS: Tap to Retry MMS" push notifications when clearly my messages are sending.
Anyone else with Textra been getting these push notifications? I will say, I'm wondering if my WiFi has something to do with it cause while I was at lunch I didn't get an issue.
Also, probably worth mentioning, that push notification only happens when I either send a text or receive one.
I'm wondering if there is something going on with my wifi or maybe my cellular isn't great at work and it takes a second which is causing the push notification but, this literally never happened until today when the trial ended and after I upgraded.

    Insurance OP 7PRO

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 12:15 PM PDT

Hi, people! Unfortunately, I was on my kayak on a secluded lake and I dropped my phone in the water. Deep lake, not the best swimmer, so I didn't jump after it. I have an insurance bought with the phone, from the oneplus website, the Dutch one. Do you know if this accident will be covered?

    Google Camera port for OP6?

I seen a lot of posts with 1 + 7, but I'm wondering if the same APK works with the OnePlus 6? And where could I get it?

    Bold font without rooting?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 04:24 PM PDT

I have the 7 Pro, and as far as I know there's only 2 font options and neither is bold. I came from iPhone where I could make my text bold and it was much easier on my eyes. Does anyone know how to do this one the 7 Pro without rooting it? Thanks!

Oneplus 3 constantly pausing all music apps since las OS update.

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 12:20 PM PDT

This has to be the worst bug i've encountered since getting my phone 4 years ago. All music playing apps just stop for absolutely no reason, until I press play again. I can't find a fix on Google, and just getting Oneplus to acknowledge my messages on Twitter is usually spaced out over 4 days. I work as a tattooist and I play music through my phone on Bluetooth so as you can imagine, having to constantly stop working to press 'play', over and over again is starting to get incredibly tedious.

I can no longer find a 'clear cache' in storage since update to try that. I have tried clearing cache in individual apps but it's not worked. I switched off all music apps in battery optimisation and this felt like it worked for an hour, then it just started to pause again. I really don't know what to do anymore. Hopefully someone else knows of the issue and can help. I have seen similar cases on Android posts over the internet which date back to 2017 so it could be a common problem? Really hope to get it fixed as it's one of the main things I use my phone for.

    Thanks.

Who else wants physical fingerprint authentication back on OP8

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 04:04 PM PDT

So I have an OP6 and wanted to buy OP 7pro but backed out of it as I couldn't justify the decision to myself. I kept on thinking about what I would would I gain from switching to OP 7 pro from OP6. After thinking about it I realized that I would be losing 2 important things. 1) Hardware fingerprint authentication 2) Face Unlock

Fingerorint scanner being in the back helps me to unlock my phone even before I remove from phone from pocket and look at the screen. Basically it unlocks the phone even before I look at it.

Yes, Face unlock is insecure but it's damn handy and just the thought of using a motorized Camera to unlock my phone is irritating.

So, what you guys think? How do OP 7pro users coping with these issues?

Silent notifications on new Snapchat update for op7 pro

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 08:27 AM PDT

Anyone else had notifications become completely silent on Snapchat after the update? I've checked all my settings and it has nothing to do with them. Even on Snapchat settings I don't have any notifications turned off. My screen wakes due to the notification when I'm not using the phone but there is no sound. When I'm using the phone and get a message on Snapchat I also don't get a sound.

Insurance policy from the Netherlands - dropped my OP 7PRO in a lake

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 11:58 AM PDT

Yes, unfortunately while I was on a secluded lake in my kayak, I dropped the phone in the water. As I'm not a good swimmer and the lake is deep, I didn't want to jump over it. Do you guys know if the insurance I purchased with the phone will cover for this accident? Had any similar incidents?

    Best ROM for 3 & 3+ (Summer 2019)

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 09:01 AM PDT

So my little champion is starting to slow down. Latest Oxygen OS felt slow and sluggish so I'm looking for a good balanced ROM with good stability.

I've tried AOSiP (had some software problems), Candy ROM (almost no drain over night, audio slider not working correctly), Havoc (currently trying but about 15% drain over night, almost perfect except battery), Linage (tried it 6months ago with some lag and cam issues), Nitrogen (tried but had some undocumented issues), Pixelexperience ( not tried yet), ResurrectionRemix (usually good performance but poor battery and camera in my experience, unstable?), Skydragon (used Q1 2019 and worked fine until it stopped booting one day for no reason, don't remember battery usage)

What are your recommendations? Custom kernels or not? Google camera for best quality?

Most used apps: Boost for Reddit, Snapchat, Messenger (from Facebook), Chrome, Spotify, YouTube. Customization is not a biggie as long as battery and performance is on par.

Is the included OnePlus 7 Pro case strong?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 02:57 PM PDT

Hi everyone, just real quick, does anyone here use the included clear case on their OnePlus 7 pro? If so, how well would it protect the phone from a drop?

I also have the nylon case, and while I'm sure that one's stronger, I'm curious if the included one is good enough to show off that hot nebula blue back

    Thanks!
