1TB, 256GB SSD vs. 1TB, 16GB Optane for a price difference of $85 Posted: 16 Aug 2019 01:05 PM PDT I was looking into buying an HP Laptop - 15t Best Value laptop, and I am choosing 8gb (1x8) over 12gb (1x4, 1x8) for the memory, but I'm stuck on what to choose for storage. I can choose between
I narrowed it down between 2,3 and 4. Which one would be better? I think 4 would be the best option overall, but is it worth the price difference between 2 and 4? Thanks. edit: Or should I go for the HP Laptop - 15t Value laptop which has an Intel® Core™ i7-8550U instead of a Intel® Core™ i7-8565U like the first one, and it would come with 12GB Memory, 1TB, 256GB SSD for $654.99 instead? Posted: 16 Aug 2019 12:32 PM PDT Edit: If you go for the switch option, what . laptop you'd take instead? Significant advantages of the MacBook Pro is the big trackpad, beautiful display (even though there are better displays nowadays) and it's build quality . [link] [comments]

New Dell G3 15 3590
The SSD is better on the G3 but the CPU apparently is quite a bit better on the G7... 6 core vs 4 core among other differences, but I am worried about cooling. It will mostly be used on a desk. It won't be my main machine, but I want to use VR with it. Is the 1660ti really that much better? I heard from some it's better than a desktop 1060, but yet when I am comparing Firestrike scores online for these configurations the G7 is scoring almost 10,000 points higher. [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Aug 2019 12:26 PM PDT I'm in the market for a sub $2k USD laptop. It's primary uses would be word processing, chrome browsing, and Fusion 360 projects. Light gaming sessions would be nice when I'm away from my gaming desktop at home. In order of importance: Build quality/reliability Battery Life Performance Wifi Connectivity Keyboard Not Important: Size Weight Resolution Touch Screen Webcam Speakers RGB My initial contenders were the usual suspects (Razer, Zephyrus, ROG) but the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme did catch my eye... Am I over-buying for my use case? Should I be looking at well equipped ultrabooks to save some $$$? [link] [comments]
Slow AMD vs Intel Processor Question Posted: 16 Aug 2019 10:33 AM PDT My wife just bought a new HP with an AMD Ryzen 3 2200U (dual as far as I can tell) processor. Just for basic work stuff, e-mails, etc... Old laptop was Windows 7, new one is 10, but we are finding it extremely slow. Everything is lagging. Even trying to open a picture takes upwards of 5-10 seconds. Going to return it, and found another HP laptop with same HD and RAM but with an Intel Core i5-8265U (quad) so hoping this might speed things up. Anybody have any experience with either of these processors or other suggestions? Thanks, [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Aug 2019 02:07 PM PDT Is anyone aware of a decent OEM that is printing custom art on the monitor shell of its laptops? Seems like I read a review about Origin doing this recently, and I know it isn't difficult to get a correctly-sized decal... though applying the decal sounds like a nightmare. [link] [comments]

Energy consumption with broken baterry Posted: 16 Aug 2019 01:26 PM PDT The baterry in my laptop recently broke, so I was thinking if it can cause any additional energy consumption? Should I take it out? I don't want to buy new one anyways so I don't care about it so much. charging stasus: plugged in, not charging, constantly at 0% [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Aug 2019 12:21 PM PDT https://i.imgur.com/jRNYqQ5.jpg I saw a post a couple days ago that inspired me to try to convert this old macbook to a Linux machine. The specs are a core2duo clocked at 2.4Ghz, 250gb hdd and 2gb of ram. The battery was busted (and the locking mechanism too). while trying to take it out I broke the top layer (the plastic case like enclosure) now the battery outer layer is exposed. If I get a new battery I'd have to tape it in place lol but at least for now works without one and with the old one still plugged it (it just doesn't charge at all, it's stuck at 0%) I have the money to do 2 out of 3 upgrades I was thinking I could either upgrade the ram to 4gb, take out the hdd and install a ssd or buy a new battery. What would you do? Bonus question, what would be the best distro for this machine?? [link] [comments]
Obnoxiously loud fan problems - Please help me find a fix Posted: 16 Aug 2019 11:36 AM PDT Disclaimer: I am clueless when it comes to computers As the title suggests, my laptop (HP pavilion, 2.5 years old) has a fan that just won't quit. Here's the fixes that I have tried:
The fan sounds like my laptop is about to take off, but sometimes turns itself down and then comes back on later Can anyone suggest an alternative fix? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Aug 2019 07:38 AM PDT I start classes on a new high school next month and I require a laptop for all the schoolwork. Some of the people I know use MacBooks and told me that they run very smooth and are perfect for school, but some other people said that macOS have compatibility problems with some programs or files... I will use it for schoolwork (presentations and text files you know), daily use like YouTube or Netflix and maybe some casual games (not too much, I mainly play the sims and stardew valley wich I know don't require much) So what do y'all think I should get?? I don't really care about price I just want the best OS. (Sorry if my English was crappy but it is not my first language) [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Aug 2019 10:20 AM PDT Hello! I just bought my first ever computer, the Acer Nitro 5 laptop. I love it so much as it can run things very well. However it seems I get a noticable decrease in performance when my battery plug is not connected. For example when playing League of Legends in max settings without the plug I get 30fps, though with the plug it says I get upwards of 150-200fps. That seems pretty dramatic. It seems some games dramatically run worse when not plugged in. So I decided to just keep my laptop plugged in while gaming. This bring up the temperature concern because as soon as I plug it in, the CPU rockets up 25-30°C. Occasionally I'll get a max temp of 80-75°C. Is this normal? Should I keep my laptop plugged in while gaming (even at 100% battery)? My specs: Gtx 1650 Ram: 8gb i5 quad-core Edit: While playing without plug, I can get CPU temps of 45-50°C. It's just when I plug it in I get concerned for the temperature. And without being plugged in the performance drops quite a bit. [link] [comments]
Ram upgrade-dell.com vs crucial.com Posted: 16 Aug 2019 04:21 AM PDT Im looking to buy 8gb of RAM upgrade for my Dell inspiron laptop. Dell sells it for $120 and before purchasing it I Googled it and saw it on a website called crucial.com for 36$, which made me think twice about my purchase. I'm new to this kind of thing, can someone with general knowledge of these things help me decide on who to go with? Im tempted to buy it from crucial just to see if it works but don't want to be out 36. [link] [comments]
Dell G5 5590 or HP 15-dk0009ng? Posted: 16 Aug 2019 10:14 AM PDT Hey, I can't decide between those two laptops ([Dell G5 5590](https://www.otto.de/p/dell-notebook-g5-15-5590-6085-windows-10-home-64-bit-884635571/#variationId=884635572) or [HP 15-dk0009ng](https://www.otto.de/p/hp-15-dk0009ng-gaming-pavilion-notebook-intel-core-i7-39-6-cm-15-6-256-gb-plus1-tb-16gb-932221595/#variationId=932221598)). I have linked the site where I would buy the devices from so you can see the specs/configuration I chose. The website is in german, but I think it should still be possible to extract the necessary details anyway (just scroll down a little bit and click "Technische Details" (technical details) or hit "Produktdatenblatt" on center right). I'll mostly use the laptop for programming and gaming. Thank you very much in advance! [link] [comments]

Wondering if this is the right laptop for me Posted: 16 Aug 2019 09:16 AM PDT Hi all, I'm in search of a new laptop. I currently have a late 2013 macbook pro 13". It's fine but I'm really loathing the macOS environment and wanted an upgrade. My wants for a new laptop:
I've been searching high and wide. I was thinking of settling on the razer stealth 13" with the mx150 graphics but was slightly upset about the 13" screen. Then considered the t490s and thought I'd take a hit with the integrated graphics. Then I found that the regular T490 can come with a MX250 dedicated gpu. Kinda seems to hit all my points while sacrificing a tiny bit on the form factor. I do love the no-nonsense looks about it. Anyone want to talk me out of this?
I would appreciate the hivemind's thoughts on this. Thanks all! [link] [comments]
Hey all, I'm looking for a sleek new laptop for college Posted: 16 Aug 2019 08:11 AM PDT My budget would probably be around 500 USD, but recommend whatever you want because I'll be shopping on Cyber Monday, so who knows. I'd prefer a 15.6 inch screen or lower, a touch-screen, and a good battery and I need Windows OS. I'd be taking it with me a lot of places but I'm kinda strong, so weight doesn't really matter. I don't plan on doing a lot of gaming, but I want a computer powerful enough to not slow down when coding or having a lot of tabs and programs open. As for appearance, I'd like it to look, well, cool. It doesn't really matter to me as much as the rest, but I'd probably want it to be black at the very least. Basically, think stereotypical cool, futuristic, mysterious hacker. As cringy as that sounds. Thanks everyone! [link] [comments] |
