Another laptop recommendation post wooo Posted: 27 Aug 2019 12:59 PM PDT I've narrowed down my choices between the Acer Aspire 5 and the Asus Zenbook 13 What worries me about the Zenbook is that it has DDR3 ram and I can't find any reviews of this version online. The previous version did not thermal throttle, which is why I'm thinking of picking it up for college and light gaming. It is also much sleeker and has better battery life. However the Acer Aspire 5 is over 200 cheaper right now, but the build quality seems worse and it has no touchscreen. The specs are very similar but I don't know if the Acer is running the 10 or 25w mx250. I also can't find any reviews of this mx250 version online to see if it thermal throttles. Posted: 27 Aug 2019 11:14 AM PDT So i've got about 400 bucks to spend on a laptop, I know it's not much but I do think there are some good ones out there. It should be able to run games like GTAV and maybe also some newer stuff but the graphics don't need to be on max. I've you've got any ideas or suggestions i'm happy to here from you. Laptop for student - budget around $1000 Posted: 27 Aug 2019 10:40 AM PDT I'm a freshman student in university, going for a poli-sci/history degree and studying pre law. I was wondering what the best laptop would be for someone in my situation? My most recent laptop, an Acer Swift 3, broke down in a year and a half, and I was hoping to find one that would last throughout uni and beyond that, if possible. I am looking for portability, to take notes/write essays, and, you know, watch Netflix and things like that. I will also be doing some light gaming, mostly Minecraft and smaller games (LISA, Hollow Knight, things like that are a good representation of what I'll be playing.) If anyone could recommend a durable laptop that would be able to do that for me, I would be grateful. Thank you very much. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Aug 2019 10:39 AM PDT I'm a chemistry student that needs a laptop on a budget. I found this laptop (Chuwi Aerobook) priced at around $500, 13.3 inch FHD fully laminated screen, Intel m3-6Y30, 8 GB RAM DDR3 and 256 GB SSD, full aluminium build. Is is worth to buy? [link] [comments]

When would be a good time to buy? Posted: 27 Aug 2019 01:44 PM PDT Hi, I've been looking for some laptops to buy recently. I know a few that I'd like, but they're slightly over my budget. When would be a good time to buy one? [link] [comments]
Which of these laptops would you guys reccomend? They're all in the same priceclass. Posted: 27 Aug 2019 01:10 PM PDT I'm going to use it mainly for gaming. One day a week i'm at school so i won't need to carry it around that much. Some of these models have a 2060 and some have a 2070 so i was wondering which of these laptops you all recommend and why? I personally like the Asus but i see it doesn't have g-sync. Is this something i need with a gaming laptop? Recommendations for a laptop needed for university/work. Posted: 27 Aug 2019 01:03 PM PDT I need a new Laptop that is good enough for University/Work. Do you have a Laptop that you like and recommend? -I am looking for a smaller screen size like 12" inch. -8 GB RAM. -At least 8 hours of battery life. -128 GB of SSD or higher. -Windows OS only please so no Macbook or Chromebook and no 2 in ones (tablets). -Price range up to £700 max. -Brand new. Any other Laptop recommendation that does not fit my criteria above is still welcome. [link] [comments]
Upgrading from an Acer Aspire (2011) Posted: 27 Aug 2019 12:54 PM PDT I've had this Acer Aspire since 2011. It's been a really great laptop for my purposes and is still performing really well, the only thing I've had to do is replace the battery. I'm considering upgrading to a newer and lighter version. Since I've had such a great experience with this product, I'm considering an Acer Aspire 5. Newegg has a model (A515-54G-70TZ) on sale that seems similar. I cant find any reviews for this particular model, but in general the Acer Aspire 5 seems to get good reviews. I don't know much about laptops, so I was hoping someone could confirm that this is a good upgrade. I don't do gaming. The biggest strain I probably put on my laptop is doing GIS, possibly some Photoshop, and working in large databases in Microsoft Access. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Aug 2019 12:49 PM PDT Hopefully someone can help find the best bang for the buck. I have built several computers but going the way of pre-built laptops for work, I am not sure what is in the good brand category anymore. When I was in college and helping sell the stuff, I always remember Asus and Lenovo being good brands. I have had horrible luck in the past with HP and Dell, but not sure if they have improved or not either. My job is a youth minister now at a church. So while of course I will be using the laptop for internet, typing, presentations... in the future I see myself expanding in my role and doing some more tech stuff for the church, building websites, photo and video editing, and audio editing as well. I would like a truly portable, so think thin, but also durable to take on the go. Budget is $500 to $800. I really like the idea of the Lenovo Yoga, but Best Buy has it for $829. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-yoga-730-2-in-1-15-6-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-256gb-solid-state-drive-iron-gray/6201040.p?skuId=6201040 I see it at Amazon with prime for $669? seems really good price, but would this be a good option? Trying to find it elsewhere to possibly price match Also wondering about the Asus Q406DA-BR5T6 for $600. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-14-touch-screen-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-8gb-memory-256gb-solid-state-drive-silver/6338824.p?skuId=6338824 If you would recommend either of these? or suggest some other options? Need help buying a used laptop Posted: 27 Aug 2019 12:13 PM PDT So a friend of mine offered his old laptop to me, but I'm not sure what I'm getting into as I have no knowledge about laptops/computers whatsoever. His laptop is an HP Omen from 2013 with a 16" touschreen display. He told me that one of the keys needs to be repaired as it is not responding and it needs a new updated ssd. I think that I'll need a new battery aswell since it's more than 6 years old. How much would be a reasonable price for the laptop, considering it needs repairs? I'll use it for writing papers and programming in C#, it doesn't need to do more than that. Specs: 1080p 60hz i7 GTX 960M 8GB RAM Thank you! [link] [comments]
Shopping for a light, budgety laptop -- how are these? Posted: 27 Aug 2019 11:50 AM PDT It's been a long time since I've shopped for laptops. I'm not looking for much, but I switched to a desktop recently so my idea of preferred specs got calibrated to the gaming pc realm. I really didn't want to pay more than about $200-250 so I was looking for one used with little luck, but Walmart had decent prices on new laptops. Anyway, for light usage, does this seem like a decent deal? I need it primarily for (novice) audio narration editing and possibly some recording, all using Audible. Nothing too extreme right now. My files get saved in Dropbox as well as locally. I'll also use it for some writing and browsing and (maybe) a light RPG or two when traveling. I see it has no disk slot, so that would be limited. I was otherwise looking at this one and loving its battery life (14hrs?!) but its HDD is teeny tiny so I'm not sure it's worth it for $20 less. (32GB eMMC, whatever that is, vs 128GB SSD) Thanks for the feedback! [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Aug 2019 10:02 AM PDT Having used one of these at work it I really enjoyed it. Compact, Durable, Sleek and fast (the i7 model). Excellent for travelling etc. I wanted one for myself so I bought one through Amazon (their "Renewed" laptops) for $500. After 1-2 hours of use the screen goes blank and/or scrambles into different colors and I have to shut it off. The other issue is that it would just shut off completely at random. I updated the BIOS to the latest, Formatted/Installed Windows 10 on it. I am aware of some issues where if you plug in the power cord it would freeze - but this is not the case. I gave it a 1 star rating and a long review stating that whoever 'renewed' this laptop at Amazon had no clue what they were doing. Has anyone else owned one of these? What is your take on it? I am returning this one to Amazon for a full refund and considering buying another one of these from another online vendor (in hopes it will not be a lemon) because when these E7440's work properly they are excellent machines. I like the size and style of this laptop (the carbon fiber version). Wondered if anyone had suggestions for similar alternatives as well. [link] [comments]
Lenovo legion y740-17ichg underperforming after 3 months Posted: 27 Aug 2019 08:50 AM PDT Back in June I bought aforementioned laptop and I've been very happy with the perfomance. However, for the past few weeks it has been massively underperforming. I checked it for malware and eventually even restored it to default settings but it did not help. Two weeks ago I could play Deus Ex: mankind devided on ultra with stable 60 fps, but now I can't even get 20 with low settings (look at the video, it's terrible). Has anyone with this laptop seen this kind of drop in performance after a few months? The specs: GeForce RTX 2060 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20Ghz 16 GG RAM +300 GB free space on the disk [link] [comments]
HP Omen 15 i5 GTX 1060 or Lenovo y530 i5 GTX1050Ti Posted: 27 Aug 2019 08:07 AM PDT Hello, Im thinking about buying a new laptop, im more casual player. I think mostly I play Destiny 2 and CS GO, Overwatch. So, what u will recomend me: HP OMEN 15 2018 with GTX 1060 - this one i prefer most becouse of slim apperance and graphic card, but i heard about his temp. problem. Lenovo y520 - not so good graphics, but apperance is great. It looks almost like business laptop. There is someone here whose got an Omen 15 2018 and can say something about cpu temps? Maybe some good (nice looking) alternative with GTX1060 for 800€. Thank you :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Aug 2019 03:18 AM PDT So I really wanted to buy a new laptop, one which can run games on, because I prefer laptops over PCs. At first I wanted something humble, but I recently found those Dell Inspiron Gaming ones, and they look beautiful. But I'm also kind of on a budget. Anyway, I found one on sale and I wanted to know if it's worth it. Keep in mind, I'm not really an IT guy, so I'll just write what it says: -It's the Dell Inspiron 7577 -it has an Intel® Core™ i5-7300HQ processor, 3.50Ghz -15.6" screen -Full HD -8GB RAM -1TB + 8GB SSH -Nvidia GTX 1050 4gb vram video card -and Windows 10 It's roughly $554, so I think it's a pretty good deal, but I wanted to know if any of you guys know about the performance. P.S. I know there is a version with a better video card, but I think 6gb vram is a little overkill, and I certainly don't need it. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Aug 2019 06:35 AM PDT I look on the specs from the Laptop HP Pavilion (15-cs0027nq ) On the hp official site they say Display: FHD SVA anti-glare micro-edge WLED-blacklit What kind of display is that? I know that IPS is good and TN is bad( in terms of viewing angles and clarity ) [link] [comments]
