I want to thank the DEV who created Lithium EPUB Reader. It's the best EPUB reader which is ad-free even with the free version.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 07:01 AM PDT

I have been using Lithium for years now, and not yet have I had any complaint from it. It's a simple, small app, and perfectly suits my needs. I earlier used FBReader, and I really liked it. When I updated my phone, it wasn't working properly at that time. I was looking for alternatives and tried out multiple book reading apps. I finalized Lithium and Moon + Reader as top choices.

Moon Reader, while being good had too many unneeded options. On top of that, the UI and reading experience just didn't seem as polished and smooth as Lithium. It even had ads on the free version. Lithium had done something right...I can't exactly pinpoint, but I tried changing over to Moon+ so many times, using silly rationalizations like "It's superior" and all such nonsense, even willing to go for the pro version if it made things better, yet I would always return back to Lithium. Lithium was simple, and effective. I like simplicity.

I started using the free version, and I thought it was a complete app as it is. I don't read on multiple devices, thus the sync multiple devices feature unlocked in PRO version wasn't needed for me. Custom colors also wasn't required since the inbuilt free colors were more than enough. I use the yellow/brown theme for day, and use dark gray for night. I use a color filter which reduces all white text to brown to reduce eye strain, and everything else which comes with free version is perfectly fine.

Books are automatically managed (I don't need it since I look up books using file manager), there are options for highlighting and notes (don't need it, I manage notepad for this purpose), the night and sepia themes work wonderfully, huge plus for me, and the whole color scheme looks pleasing to the eyes. The app gives option for paged vs scrolling. I personally like pages, instead of infinite scrolling, so I use that. Another very useful feature, I can click on the extreme right for next page, and extreme left for previous page, and tapping on the middle gives me options. This is something FBReader had and I'm used to it, instead of sliding towards left or right for turning pages. It made the transition from FBReader very easy. The app is actively being developed. The latest version is from this year, yet even the older version are perfectly functional.

BONUS: The free version is adfree. This is one of the reasons why I support the dev wholeheartedly. Moon+ Free version has ADS. Lithium doesn't. On top of having all the options I need, the dev wasn't greedy enough to ruin reading experience by putting ads. I respect the dev for it. Even though I don't need the pro version, I got it because I wanted to support the dev.

Thank you FaultException for making such a wonderful app. I have been using it for such a long time now, and I have no complaints. I use it very frequently, and take extra time to manually convert PDF's to EPUB just so I can read with Lithium. Reading with Lithium is quite pleasurable.

    ___________________________________________

If I can request a feature, can you add a small dock at the bottom (like 5 pixels) which will signify battery, time, pages read/total pages (like 17/209), and %read (22.8%)? It helps keep track of time, and how many pages I read, and have left. I had this in FBReader and it's the only thing I miss. Moon+ also has this feature. For the space in middle, keep it blank. FB Reader had title, and a picture of progression, but keeping it blank will keep it clean. The battery and time will be on left, and 17/209 and 22.8% will be on right. Everything else is perfect as it is.

    Thanks :)

[DEV][Giveaway] How do you deal with smartphone addiction?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 07:26 AM PDT

Smartphones have become an extension of our brains for many of us. And rightfully so because we get a lot of information from them. The problem is they can be quite addictive. A lot of us want some of that time back for ourselves: to study, to relax, to socialize IRL, even to think our own thoughts.

There's a lot of apps that attempt to deal with this, including Google's own "Digital Wellbeing". I still decided to make my own and created Lock Me Out all the way back in 2014. I've updated it a lot in the past year, packing it full of features and making it super customizable. Here's a quick overview of the features, they're explained in more detail in the store description or on my website:

Brief overview• Quickly start a one-time lockout• Automatic lockouts based on device usage (screen time, device unlocks, app opens)• Scheduled lockouts• Blocked apps, allowed apps, or lockscreen-only modes• Usage statistics for total screen time, app use, device unlocks, DND time• Pay a penalty to end lockouts early• Prevent changes to scheduled lockouts• Temporary emergency access• Notifications to warn you about your usage

Give it a shot and see if it helps you regain some time to yourself.

    Play store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teqtic.lockmeout

If you'd like a promo code for a free lifetime upgrade to premium, please upvote and leave a comment and I'll DM you the code. EDIT: I was originally sending these through "chat" and not DMs. I have re-sent them all.

Please leave a favorable review on Google Play if you find the app helpful.

Feel free to post other apps or solutions that have helped you deal with smartphone addiction.

    Cheers!

    I'll start.

    Tasker

I know a lot of folks have a love / hate relationship with it, but I really love that app.

Are there any video recording apps that can record over long periods while deleting older footage?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 01:01 AM PDT

    • App must be able to keep recording video for long periods

    • App deletes all footage that's old (ex: anything older than 5 or 10 minutes ago) tap a button or something to save video and then continue recording afterwards.

    • When something happens that I recorded on the camera, I simply tap a save button or something and it recorded the last 5-10 minutes or something without draining my storage.

I wanna record riding my electric bike, if something happens then I can click the save button afterwards without worrying about maxing out my phones storage. My ebike motor broke on it's first ever ride (15min) and I want to record for the first month with the replacement motor for warranty reasons.

Are there any good rss readers I can use?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 07:11 AM PDT

I've been looking for an rss reader for my tablet but all the ones that I've looked into either aren't compatible with my device or they have some issue. I'm trying to use it to keep track of my YouTube subscriptions but after loading the xml file into them they either have videos missing or it doesn't let you hide/mark the ones you've already read.

Brightness slider on edge of screen

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 11:36 AM PDT

I always used VolumeSlider to set the Brightness on the edge of my screen. Now I have a OnePlus 7 Pro and the app doesn't function properly. I can't seem to find an alternative. Any ideas? Also I'm rooted if that helps.

[DEV] My first real game has 1 year birthday

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ZenArtist.JumpingJustin

    Hello guys,

I want to share with you my first real game submitted to Google Play, which was about 1 year ago from now. It's about a boy named Justin - a character I invented for this game, which I plan to use in future games as well and already have used in a second game too.

The game is about jumping cliffs and collecting coins - rather simple, yes. Each level has a goal you have to reach to unlock the next level, which can be bought with the collected coins. Coins can also be spend on another characters too.

Some of the changes I've made so far is, I've made the levels easier and set the duration of ads being shown to be much lower that first implemented, so gameplay isnt ruined.

I'm a hobby indie dev, and I don't make any money of this. I only make games to make my kids smile, but I somehow also want to share them, so other can enjoy them.

The game is 100% free to download and play from Google Play, but to remove ads, you can use one of these promo codes aswell.

All I ask for is constructive feedback so my future games may be better. And please remember, this is my first game.

Is there an app that automatically records video using front and/or back camera and uploads itself to a cloud/site etc?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 04:57 AM PDT

I was watching r/badcapnodonut and want to secure myself if those videos may ever happen to me. I live in a country where our President telling cops to kill everyone who are involve in wrong doings even if we didn't do anything and they'll say "we resisted, we point a gun, we attacked a police" in a court. They'll absolutely get away with it.

Best weather app for an always on wall mounted tablet?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 02:02 PM PDT

Looking for an app that displays weather forecasts and radar, while auto updating the information shown on the screen.

The tablet is a cheap amazon fire tablet with play store installed, and I keep it mounted to the wall with the screen always on so I can just glance at it while walking by.

There are a lot of weather apps out there but most don't seem to auto update the information or will time out after a while, or don't have radar or require heavy interaction to get to different pages while not showing much on the main page. Some also crash after being on for too long.

I am fine with paid apps but would prefer no subscription apps.

App to delete photos by type

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 12:11 PM PDT

I'm looking for an app that can select and delete photos based on what the photo is of. I have lots of photos of text that I don't need, but I don't want to have to select hundreds of photos manually. I know Onedrive has a section that groups photos by their content, but I can't seem to figure out how to select all the photos within a category.

Question about a feature on Textra

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 12:06 PM PDT

I switched recently to textra and like it a lot. I'm considering buying pro.

One annoying thing is when I'm in a message and want to highlight the whole message to delete it, it brings me back to my message list. It seems like swiping left in a message brings you back, which I understand but it's really annoying for me and I'd like to turn this off.

Does anyone know if there's a way to do that?

Looking for the best camera app for hiking and mountain climbing

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 11:07 AM PDT

I'm heading out on some decent hikes in the mountains and I want to beef up my S9 camera abilities a bit.

I'm not a pro photographer by any means and some of the top apps are basically a manual DSLR, which I don't know how to properly use. I'd like to be able to take long exposure shots for the stars. I've heard of apps that shoot a few pics at a time with different lighting settings, which sounds cool. What else you might recommend.

I know this gets asked a lot but I just wasnt finding what I was looking for when searching. My google play $ has been sitting around and this would be a good use, I think. Thanks!

SnapCopy no longer works—any similar apps

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 10:43 AM PDT

I was using SnapCopy for about a year, but a month ago it stopped working and nothing I do can get it working again.

Looking for an app where if I Copy something on my phone, I can Paste it on my computer, and vice versa. The closest I've found is Alt-C, but it requires a custom command to sync between devices—good solution but not great.
