Looking for a quality note taking app

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 08:50 AM PDT

Preferably one where I can change the background and text color, but I'm open to solid regular ones.

I always find customization to be calming when getting work done. Which is why I have an android ;)

Evolve - Free Cognitive Training App

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 07:18 AM PDT

Hi reddit, I am a 18 year old Norwegian indie developer. I love cognitive training apps, but have never been able to enjoy them fully as most off them are quite expensive subscription services. So I decided to make my own economical version.

Inspired by apps like Peak and Lumosity, the app takes you through exercise sessions, trying to help you improve your cognitive skills in areas such as reactions, memory, logical thinking, language skills, concentration and multitasking.

Please check it out : HERE

If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to comment, and I will respond as soon as possible.

    Geometric weather and Bugly analytics

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 03:18 AM PDT

Hi, as someone here suggested I tried Geometric Weather, is a nice and open source app!

Then I noticed it connected to a Chinese Tencent IP , and discovered it's since it uses Bugly analytics.

Are there privacy issues? I've not found reliable information online...

    Spotify style unified media control?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 08:58 AM PDT

There's this very convenient feature in spotify premium where between all your connected device you have access to remote media playing. Ex: your phone is connected to the sound system in the living room and you can play/pause skip tracks remotely right from the spotify app. Issue is, I have a lot of music from my media library that cannot be found on spotify, instead I generally use Poweramp or Google play music, but having this unified media control feature is really must have in the end

Swipe for Facebook 8.0 is HERE and 50% OFF - Now with a gorgeous new redesign based off of Google's Material Design 2 and Fully Customizable Themes/Layouts just like your favorite Reddit apps. All that and much, much more!

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 02:43 PM PDT

Greetings, r/androidapps! It's been quite a long time since I've posted here, and after a soft launch of 8.0 over a week ago at r/swipeforfacebook (and massive sessions of bugfixing over the last week), I'm finally proud to do a more official launch of the latest version of Swipe on this subreddit. And what better way to do a launch than a 50% sale?

Swipe (Pro Unlocker IAP) and Swipe Pro are both 50% off through the weekend.

    Obligatory links:

Right, so here we go. I'm so happy to finally be able to unwrap Swipe for Facebook 8.0 for all of you to see.

The latest version of Swipe is all about design. Although we started 3 years ago with the push forward to having Facebook clients actually looking and feeling like the Facebook app (hence, the name "Swipe" - the first app to have swiping tabs), I'm sure you all can come to appreciate that the designs of most clients today have started to look quite similar, derivitive, or just outdated. Google's newly redesigned apps with "Material Design 2" in my opinion are a breath of fresh air, and I've used that design philosophy in UI and UX as inspiration when rebuilding Swipe for version 8.0.

I've also had a lot of comments on the design customizability in Swipe being subpar earlier this year, with only a handful of theme preset options and no option to put in your own colors. I'll admit, these comments were true. Competitors had vastly more theme options (a selection of beautiful colors, choose white/dark/black bases) and most allowed you to even put in your own hexcode.

Today (well last week), all of that changes. This is the BIG update I've been working on over the last few months, one I've only hinted about here and there, as I've completely rebuilt Swipe's theming engine from the ground up, making it now the most customizable Facebook client out there. I know it all sounds like hyperbole, but I hope once you experience it for yourself, you can come to understand why it took so long.

Quick shoutout to u/creativetrends who has helped me loads along the way and all Swipe users for being so patient these last few months while I worked away on this release. I'm so sorry it took so long, but I had to get everything up to standard. The lack of communication surely didn't help, but a couple months into completely rebuilding the app, I realized I reached a point of no return where I was unable to fix minor bugs any longer as the app has already been drastically changed at that point - I had to keep pushing forward.

Anyway, without further ado, here's what's new in this major update:

NEW Material Design 2 Is Finally Here!

    Swipe MD2 Default Light Theme

    Swipe MD2 Default Dark Theme

I'm personally a big fan of the new look of Google's apps. Swipe similarly has a fresh new look. The entire app has been completely redesigned to conform with Google's new design guidelines. I really like how Google has distinct light and dark designs, and Swipe has followed suit.

I know this is especially polarizing for some users though, so if you aren't a fan, don't worry! This can all be changed. Read on to find out how!

    NEW Customizable App Themes

    Main App Theme Menu

    Main Night Theme Menu

    Theme Options

    Theme Presets

    Picking a Preset Color

    Inserting Your Own HexCode

With the new redesign, one of the things I've really tried hard to do is deliver a theming experience that is up to standard with most other aspects in Swipe. We started Swipe with amazing intuitive UI. We've innovated with equally amazing features with notifications, native views, UX and layouts, and more. This time, we're doing the same with themes. Introducing Swipe's NEW App Theming Engine - now with a ridiculous amount of customizability.

In Swipe 8.0, you can now pick your own theme colors, and themes are broken down into specific colors for specific elements. You specify your primary/accent colors, toolbar colors (including the toolbar icons/text colors), the tab background (and tab icon/text colors), the page background and content background colors. Heck, now you can also customize the status bar (where your notifications are at the top of your screen) and navigation bar colors (where your back, home, recent buttons are).

In addition, you can now specify HexCode values for all of the above, SEPARATELY.... YES, this means you can have a green status bar, a purple toolbar, and an orange navigation bar - if you wanted (though I would advise against this). haha.

And to finally top it all off, these colors can be set SEPARATELY for both the day and night themes (i.e. changing between day and night doesn't have to only change the background color of the app - your toolbar and tabs color could change from blue to red at night).

Also, one more thing - if you aren't so keen on customizing your own themes, we still have all the classic Swipe themes from version 7 and below as presets - in addition to a few new gorgeous ones.

NEW Look & Feel Styling Core

    Main Look & Feel Page

    Look & Feel Options

Look & Feel Toolbar Title Position Options

Look & Feel Tab Position Options

Look & Feel Actions Menu Options

So this goes hand and hand with the customizable app theme really, but basically, now you have more granular control of how you have Swipe laid out. This is different from App Themes:

    • App Theme/Night Theme controls the color of elements
    • Look & Feel controls elements in the app

Here, you'll be able to pick whether you want the app in the current new Material Design 2 options. Things such as:

    • the positioning of the Toolbar Title (left-aligned as it was previously, or centered as it is now)
    • the positioning of the Tabs (as well as whether you want them to be able to be swiped left and right, and if they should have text labels underneath).
    • whether you want the new Card Layouts (which is a new more improved version of the Material Design setting from older versions of Swipe)
    • what Actions Menu type you want - whether it be the new Bottom Actions Sheet (a la Google Maps), or the OG Floating Action Button, or if you're a minimalist and want neither! From here, you can choose.
    • Also here, you'll find options for peeking, splash screen, etc.

    NEW Quick Theme Switcher

Quick Theme Switcher in Overflow Menu

Also new, at any time, you can switch between Day Theme, Night Theme, and the Automatic Day/Night Theme from the new quick setting in Swipe's overflow menu. This can be done from anywhere in the app and you don't need to be on the main page.

    NEW Bottom Action Menu

    Bottom Action Menu

Mentioned earlier, the new Bottom Action Menu is the new default way of getting quick access to Swipe's main quick actions. It's incredibly simple to use, and you might have used something similar already in the past, if you're a frequent user of Google Maps - simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

From here, you'll be able to post a Status Update, Upload a Photo, or Check In. This replaces the Floating Action Button - though if you so wanted to, it is easy to revert this change in the Look & Feel Setting. Another addition this brings is that from here, you can easily toggle between the Most Recent and Top Feed as a default for your News Feed without having to dive into Settings... and whenever you leave the app and return, your last selection will be remembered.

    NEW Customizable Widget Themes

    Widget Theme Page

    Widget Theme Presets

Just as it is in the Customizable App Themes, Widgets are now completely customizable as well - down to the minutia. Try it to and see. :)

Also, Swipe's Widgets now include 3 different themes for the Free version - where it was previously only 1.

    IMPROVED Widget Integration

Notifications now automatically clear and are marked as read from within the app's notification tab when you click on a Notification in Swipe's Widget, and vice-versa (widget notification marked as read when the notification is opened in-app). Also, you can launch ChatHeads directly from Swipe's widgets, if the ChatHeads setting is enabled.

    IMPROVED Image Viewer

Swipe's Image Viewer is now far more accurate at predicting whether or not you can swipe left/right to the next or previous image.

    IMPROVED ChatHead Integration

Swipe's ChatHeads now allow you to launch Swipe's Image Viewer when clicking on an image and Swipe's Video Player when clicking on a video.

    Performance & Usability

General improvements in RAM/memory usage when navigating in the app, as well as substantially improved Idle CPU Usage (when compared to version 7.0 and below).

    BUG FIXES

Outside of all of that, I've actually already started pushing out numerous bug fixes based on user feedback. Here are some of the more recent fixes:

Swipe 8.0.1 Bug fix Update Changelog.

Swipe 8.0.2 Bug fix Update Changelog.

Swipe 8.0.3 Bug fix Update Changelog.

There are certainly more bugs to fix, and I've already got a new update lined up to be released in the next few days.

I'd like to thank everyone for the kind words I've been getting since the soft launch, and to everyone that's been sending in those bug reports. You guys are the best!

There are upcoming features that are already in the works, set to come around the end of the month (give or take a week), including official Android Q API support, Voice/Video calls, and further Look & Feel settings allow you to pick your own tabs.

Well, I truly hope this update doesn't disappoint, please give it a spin if you haven't yet. Anyway, I thank you for taking the time to read this post, and thanks r/androidapps for having me. :)

Happy to take any questions here, r/swipeforfacebook, or via email.

    Just dropping some links again:

    Cheers and warm regards,

    Jeff

    Request All-in-one chat client

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 09:27 AM PDT

I'm looking for a messaging app that will supports both sms and Facebook messenger messages. I currently use Facebook messenger for this purpose but am honestly getting tired of the ads, the messengers shitty camera, the battery drain and the privacy concerns that it comes with. Is there anything out there that someone has actually used and can recommend?

Looking for a task management app

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 07:55 AM PDT

Features I really need are: Start DATE and TIME with notifications, Easy categorization like work, home, family, etc, Integration with Google Calendar and Gmail, Android app and web client Edit: forgot to mention Google Home/Assistant integration

Ideally I'd like an app that is free or a one time purchase. I could deal with a small subscription cost if the app did everything I want fairly easily and looks nice too.

I tried Todoist, Toodledo, Google Tasks, but each was missing a feature or the UI was too confusing. I use Evernote and Keep a lot but neither works well for me as a task manager.

Is there an app that's functionally like PdaNet but free?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 11:00 AM PDT

The app works, and I'm willing to pay the 8 bucks to not have the data restriction on it if there's no free alternative, but first just wondering if there's a similar one that's just free. It's hard to tell from the description because they usually don't reveal the restriction until you're in the app. Tried a couple others that both turned out to be paid as well.

For anyone who doesn't know it lets you tether your phone data to your computer without subscribing to tethering through your carrier. Thanks.

Ad Blocker that Works for Chrome & YouTube

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 01:57 AM PDT

I know this is a frequent request, but mine is slightly more specific: looking for an Adblocker that will definitely block ads in both the Chrome browser and the YouTube app for android. If it also blocks ads in other apps & games that's just a bonus. Tried Adclear but ads still got through for both those apps. Don't want to root my phone or use yandex browser. Most of the Adblockers I've come across don't seem able to block ads for chrome & yt, has anyone had better luck than I with an Adblocker?

My phone is an LG X Charge (model LG-US601)

    Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know a free File Manager alternative that can make .nomedia text files? Or any other good ways to hide photos?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 12:32 AM PDT

I found out recently that you can make a text file and name it .nomedia and it prevents photos in its folder from showing up in your gallery app. I have some sensitive images (yes, nudes, my nudes, don't ask for them they aren't that good anyways) that I'd like to make private and I've been trying to find a good way to hide them. The problem is that File Manager can only make folders, it can't make text files. Does anyone know an alternative file app that can, preferably one that won't take up much space on my phone? I'm also interested in any good vault apps that can hide themselves, and ways to hide photos in general.
