I accidentally removed Nvidia GPU from device manager and it doesn't show up anymore Posted: 28 Aug 2019 03:12 AM PDT My laptop is an Asus Rog Strix GL553VW. I have 2 GPUs: Intel HD graphics 530 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M. The latter of which I removed from device manager and it doesn't show up anymore, no matter how many DDUs I do in safe mode or no matter how many reboots I do. Here's what I tried: Unzipping the Nvidia drivers and trying to install the first part manually. DDU in safe mode then reinstalling drivers (installer didn't recognize my GPU). Resetting windows 10. Reinserting BIOS battery. Please help me my laptop is worthless rn:( Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Been in IT for 10 years, have never seen this before - could use a hand - Internet Connectivity Posted: 27 Aug 2019 11:39 AM PDT Little back story: This is a long standing client of mine who I fix their issues whenever they call me. I have been their IT partner for a number of years now but also work in the IT industry. This client calls me up saying that they are having issues with internet connectivity, no biggie right? - reset a modem, redo a driver or two, 25 minutes tops - Oh how wrong I was, we are on day 2. I am now here asking the experts as even the ISP has been no help. --- The issue begins with the computers redirecting all internet traffic to http://msftconnecttest.com , and windows saying no internet access. This is normally indicative of no connection and windows redirecting you to this page to connect to a website. First thing I did was reset the modem (Frontier/Verizon) this did not resolve anything. This did not resolve the problem. Next was to use windows to reset the network settings and drivers on the computers - special note both mac and PC are unable to access the network, but only PC is being redirected here - same thing, nothing working. During this I also disabled msftconnecttest coming up in the registry, yet when attempting to visit any website, the website will "load" and the msftconnecttest page will load instead yet the website will look like it will load. Ping test to google resolves to an IP of 172.19.1.254 which is NOT google's, with a time of less than 1ms, in fact a ping test to ANY website resolves to that IP with a time of less than 1ms. Computers on the network are both wired and wireless and cannot even ping the modem at this point. I call up Frontier and the tech literally says to me that "The modem has been hacked by Russia" (I am not kidding, I wish I had the call recorded) and that it would need to be replaced. I got the modem replaced at the local Frontier store and the exact same thing is happening... but here is the kicker - if you turn on a mobile hot spot, the computers work just fine, so this is obviously an ISP issue right? So I call up Frontier AGAIN, and get someone else on the line who tells me that they are able to ping the modem and they see internet connectivity and if I want any other service I need to get in touch with Premium IT Support (a paid service... no surprise here). I am at a loss. Internet works fine off of Frontier and yet Frontier claims there service is working? yeah_ok.gif If anyone has seen something like this before or could assist it would be greatly appreciated [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Aug 2019 12:45 AM PDT So I booted up my PC this morning and started Total War: Warhammer 2. The game loaded up fine, but then experienced a heavy lag spike. From there, the computer just shut off, no BSOD, no CTD, just instantly turned off. When I turned my computer back on, I found that some games would CTD while in the loading screen, while others would work fine. PC Specs are:
Working games include: Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and Divinity: Original Sin 2. Games that CTD on load include: Watch Dogs 2, Escape from Tarkov, Minecraft, and Total War: Warhammer 2. So far, I've tried updating my graphics drivers and cleaning my PC (from dust). I suspect that I had a psu hardware failure, which then bonked my gpu. This is a fairly old rig, about 6 years old now, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's on the cusp of death. However, I would appreciate any help, I kinda want this to last at least another year, through to my graduation. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Aug 2019 04:17 AM PDT Good morning/evening guys! After years of building my own PCs, I've become lazy. This time around I ended up purchasing a (really decently priced) prebuilt from micro center. It's a prebuilt Maingear system, using their vybe case, with a hardline cooling setup. Last night while playing destiny 2 however, I ran into an issue. About 30-45 minutes into playing, the computer shut itself off without warning. Tried starting up and playing again, with the same result. The other issue that I've noticed is when I put it into sleep or shut it down myself, the PC takes a solid minute before I can turn it back on again or pull it from sleep. I can't tell if this might be a PSU issue, or something more nefarious. Nothing is overheating from what I've seen on xtu/afterburner. Any ideas? build: 9900k 2080 ti mobo: asrock phantom gaming 6 16 gb g.skill ripjaws 3200 intel nvme ssd psu is powerspec brand, can't remember wattage off the top of my head. I believe 850w. Posted: 28 Aug 2019 03:38 AM PDT I just read this comprehensive guide on blurbusters.com about G-Sync and how to squeeze the most out of it. One of the recommendations is to set the frame rate limit to 3FPS below max refresh rate. Assuming I have my panel set to 60Hz that would mean I'd be getting 57FPS and while it is not an issue for me in terms of gaming experience it would be an issue if I wanted to record the games in 60FPS. My panel is actually able to refresh at 75Hz by default, but I set it to 60Hz, since that's the frame rate at which I play the games and it just makes the image smoother this way. Would setting the refresh rate to 63Hz and adjusting the FPS limit to 60 do the trick or is it going to cause some trouble? Has anyone ever tried this? [link] [comments] |
What are the ATX and the ATX 12v 2x4 connectors? Posted: 28 Aug 2019 02:58 AM PDT Building up my PC, no new insides, just a new case as my other had no airflow. Plugging everything back in (this is my first time plugging from scratch, only thing I've ever done is fans and new GPUs), and I don't understand what these 2 connectors are for? What's the difference? Manual just tells me ones an ATX and one's ATX 12v 2x4, but I don't know the difference. Sorry if this is a stupid question, like I said this is my first time. Computer mousepad, keyboard, power buttons and USB ports not working. Unable to switch off. Posted: 27 Aug 2019 06:19 PM PDT Hi, I have an issue I have been unable to solve elsewhere online. My computer is frozen and the power button will not switch it off. This happened while I was playing 'enter the gungeon' and trying to kill the past. I am now stuck on the 'you died' screen, after the game kept playing for several seconds after the keyboard failed. My Laptop is a Dell inspiron gaming laptop. I have held down the power button for 90 seconds straight. Currently I have unplugged the computer from power, and am waiting for the battery to run out of charge. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong? The laptop has suffered damage in the past, but this has never happened before. Should I just wait and see what happens? Thanks in advance. Spare PC is haunted - Creepy corrupted hardware Posted: 28 Aug 2019 02:28 AM PDT My main PC is getting new stuff fitted, so I though I'd try out my spare PC left in my basement for years. Once turned on, it hangs on the boot screen for like 3 minutes, and occasionally cuts off the display for a few seconds. When it finally loads into windows, there is no soind except for the occasional static noises. Occasionally it will make a really loud beep through the PC speaker, and turn off straight away. During the night, it turns itself on randomly. Whenever it does that, it gives me the CMOS battery error. How do I fix this? is it hopeless? [link] [comments] |
Why is my Wifi better than my Ethernet cable? Posted: 27 Aug 2019 05:40 PM PDT I found that my Wifi download speed was pretty low at around 45 mbs so decided to upgrade to Ethernet since everyone keeps telling me that's much better. Then once i connected with it i only got 2.8 mbs and terrible ping. I have used multiple cables and my current cable is about 2 metres long, which is like 6'6''. I use a gaming laptop that's relatively new and hasn't been damaged before. Any help will greatly be appreciated. thanks. [link] [comments] |
Usb tethering crashes my phone. Posted: 28 Aug 2019 02:22 AM PDT We recently moved to a new house and my PC is on the other side of the house of the wifi. My PC only uses ethernet and we haven't been able to run a cable over here yet because reasons. I remembered seeing a option on my phone called usb tethering so I tried hooking my phone up to my PC and turned usb tethering on. It didn't work. So I looked it up on YouTube and an Indian guy told me to go to device manager and change a few things and then it said that I had an internet connection! I excitedly went over to chrome to run a internet speed test, only to see the dinosaur. My PC still said it had a working ethernet connection but I apparently wasn't. I looked at my phone and turned it on when suddenly it crashed. I tried it a few more times but I wasn't actually able to access the internet on my PC and my phone kept crashing. My brother followed the same steps that the Indian guy gave us on his PC, and he is currently playing overwatch. Does anyone know a solution? My phone is a Samsung galaxy a70. Edit: I tried it again with chrome and it got the "this site can't be reached" error. It also says the connection was reset under it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Aug 2019 02:04 AM PDT It was my first time installing kali linux, but I messed it up. I installed rufus and used a 7 gb USB. After I started to install kali linux the 7gb wasn't big enough so I used my HDD. Surely enough I wasn't paying attention and that deleted everything on the HDD. But now I have another problem which is when I was going to boot it up it asked me something about booting it up manually or some other option I can't remember. I chose manual and that just took me to a black screen with a flashing underscore. I can't even go into my bios or boot menu either because whenever I restart the pc the keyboard is locked. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated as I am new to this Thank you [link] [comments] |
Windows 8.1 loading circle, then goes black screen and pops a message "your pc ran into a problem" Posted: 28 Aug 2019 04:44 AM PDT So I got an issue for a few days from which I bang my head in the wall. As I try to start windows 8.1, the windows logo pops out with the loading circles for a few seconds then everything goes black screen and after 3-4 mins it says "your pc ran into a problem" then restarts and goes to automatic repair infinite loop. The worst part here is that the pc has an issue with booting from usb (yes the usb is bootable in NTFS format). I got 2 usb's, one with windows 8.1 and one with windows 10. When i open up the BIOS and change the order to one of the usb sticks, the pc boots it and shows the windows logo again with the circling dots and then again goes to black screen. I'm sure it boots it because just before the windows logo pops out i see some text at the top left corner which says something like "NTFS.....booting image" or something like that. So I can't access my old windows, can't access cmd, can't install new windows. Now what? Tl dr system spec: Intel core i7 4700HQ DDR3 RAM 8 gb NVidia GeForce 760m 2gb 1tb hdd Or you can google Asus G56JR because I can't post links I know it's an old system but I can't afford a new one right now so I need your help guys. Im using an asus sabertooth 990fx motherboard which to my understanding has 4x pciex16 slots, ill be using the two graphics cards in slot 1 and 3... Problems with every browser except Microsoft Edge Posted: 28 Aug 2019 04:41 AM PDT Since I got my new laptop I have had problems with every browser I installed(I've tried Opera, Chrome and Brave). The problem seems to be loading a new website that I haven't yet been to, which when casually browsing reddit or social networks isn't a problem but it makes it virtually impossible to visit anything else since it takes about 30seconds to just load the site. On the other hand Microsoft edge works just fine. The internet connection isn't a problem since I have 60Mbps. Any tips on how to resolve this? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
I want to make my mic sound terrible Posted: 28 Aug 2019 04:40 AM PDT I want to intentionally make my mic sound terrible (like peaking out and extremely low quality) to piss off my friends. There are no useful guides online about this. [link] [comments] |
are those .txt files corrupted? Posted: 28 Aug 2019 04:38 AM PDT Hey I tried to recover a .txt file with those black blocks of text in them (i think they are called control characters)Used Shadow Explorer to recover them. The recovered version got all scrambled up, but i think most the information is still in there. Im not exactly sure what happened (it either got weirdly formatted or some of those black blocks did not get translated properly and became all jibberish) Here is the broken .txt file: And here is a working version of it (it looks very different and not that weird): If anyone could just tell me what happened to the broken version, it would go along way.Thank you and have a nice day! Posted: 28 Aug 2019 04:20 AM PDT My HP laptop gets charged only till 80% and stops charging after that. When using the notebook on battery power, the notebook turns off when it is at 55% charge. So the battery lasts for approx. 30 minutes. I took my notebook to a HP service center and the engineer said I need to replace my battery. Do I need to replace my battery immediately, or should I wait until it is completely dead? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Trying to install an M.2 SSD gives me a blue screen Posted: 27 Aug 2019 03:42 PM PDT Hey guys, so this is a problem I've been dealing with for almost two years now. I have a Dell Inspiron 7559, and along with the actual hard drive it has an extra port for an M.2 SSD. I bought a Samsung Evo (860 I think?) a couple years ago, to use primarily as a boot drive because the stock HDD is pretty slow and I just wanted speed the OS and maybe a couple Apps up. So I installed the SSD in the slot no problem, and then downloaded Samsung's proprietary migration software so I could just migrate the OS as easily as possible. Now, i had already read some places that this software wasn't the best, but I figured it was the best option since I had a samsung drive. Everything was going completely fine until about halfway through the migration when I got an error, and I think it crashed (its been two years, memory is kinda hazy). after that, when I booted back up I got a blue windows 10 repair screen. I took the SSD out and the OS booted in just fine, but no matter what I try if I insert the SSD back into the slot windows boots into the repair screen and none of the options fix anything. I've tried literally everything, I've even factory restored TWICE since then and it still boots into repair mode with it inserted. I know its been 2 years but I dropped like over $100 on this thing and I still have it and would love to use it if I could. Sorry for the long post, any help would be appreciated!!
