    Better alternative to Pocket?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 03:05 AM PDT

    Hi,

Pocket somehow never really works for me. On nearly every article I save there are images and graphs missing, it happens very seldom that it includes at least half of the images in the article. Is there a better alternative?

Best way to add and manage contacts?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 09:08 AM PDT

I have hundreds of text messages and phone calls in my phone log, that I want to add contact information to.

That includes names, phone numbers, emails, and I would like to create different groups for them. I could do this on the contact app, but it just seems like it would take a very long time. I'm wondering if there's an app that I might be able to use with my laptop as well, to make it easy to add and manage these.

In my business, I get text messages from random names and numbers everyday, sometimes the numbers are regular sometimes their burner numbers and they change. So it is a cumbersome process to add an update these.

An app like Parallel Space but allows you to have more than two instances of an app?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 07:57 AM PDT

I'm looking for a multi-instance app for my Samsung Note 8. I've been using Parallel Space but it is limited to two instances of an app at most. There are times when I might want 3 or 4 instances of an app running at the same time. Since Samsung blocks the Android user system, I can't figure out a way to get this done. Any app suggestion is appreciated.

Any camera app to take low dynamic range photos?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 11:14 AM PDT

My goal is to take photos with the subject only casting a black silhouette. Currently it's too easy for the foreground to still be decently exposed, even against a sunset for example, so I want an app that only uses a small dynamic range so I can more easily underexpose the foreground.

Moon Reader Pro - Brightness Slider

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 06:07 AM PDT

I recently bought the pro version of MR when it was on sale, and I love it. However, I find myself accidentally lowering the brightness when I scroll down on the left side of the screen.

Is there some way to move the location of this slider, or straight up remove it?

Twitter app that defaults to Lists?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 07:10 AM PDT

I never use Lists in Twitter, but a friend asked if I knew of a third-party Twitter app that can open directly to Lists.

    Any have a recommendation?

How to backup Andriod SMS and MMS

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 07:23 AM PDT

Over the past many years we've been using SMS Backup+ to accomplish this and we've become reliant on this. Today we discovered SMS Backup+ wont work anymore.

SMS Backup & Restore doesnt seem to save the MMS messages correctly. What can we do?

Can't remeber the name of this app

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 08:24 AM PDT

I came across a music app I liked. But I had to reset my phone, and I can't remember the name of it. Checked the library on play store and couln't find it there. Maybe it was discontinued or something. It's a free music app with ads. and it changes the theme based on album cover.

    Looking for aggressive to-do apps.

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 11:44 AM PDT

Already tried the to-do apps that offers Google and Microsoft (that feature to sync between PC and Android is really nice), but I'm the kind of guy that if sees a notification in the morning, just delete it and the app became useless for that reason.

So, I need an app that gives me an entire pop-up or something similar (if I can have sync between devices, that's will be perfect). Like the clock app, but with tasks.

Best free ad blocker to use in combination with Hotspot Shield? (No-Root)

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 09:37 PM PDT

Hi guys, so I just recently started taking this stuff more seriously. I use the Cinema HD app on my phone and figured I should protect myself. I was using Blokada to get rid of the annoying ads in Cinema HD, but Blokada seems to interfere with me using a VPN at the same time. Kind of a bummer because I was a fan of how the app looked and it seemed to perform well. Any suggestions?

Probably a common question, so I apologize if it's a repost. I wish I could just root my phone, but I'm stuck with a Snapdragon S7 for the time being and from what I've read, it's a terrible phone for a noob to learn about rooting on. Damn you Verizon.

A HUGE Thank you to all of you and to Disk Digger.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 02:46 PM PDT

To be 100% clear: I am not an android user. I am not an app developer(yet). I am in no way related to the Disk Digger Developers (love that alliteration).

A couple days ago my fiance accidentally deleted her photos after thinking she transferred them to the SD card on her Galaxy Grand Prime. She doesn't take many pictures and the ones she does take and keep are important to her. She just told me about this today.

I'm her and my family's tech support. I have had Motorola, RIM, and Apple phones but never an Android (except to mess around with for other projects, never as a phone). When I tried using some stuff I know about data recovery to try to get to hidden files, deleted sectors that haven't been written over, and a couple other tricks I started to get a bit worried (I haven't taken the dive into Android OS yet).

After a quick couple Google searches it was clear that our world is still filled with people preying on those who lose data and are willing to pay anything to get it back (even downloading malware without realizing it).

I have lurked here for many years just to keep a casual eye on Android stuff, so I decided to focus my Google search on the Android subreddit.

Not even 2 posts in I found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/androidapps/comments/6j0anz/app_to_recover_deleted_files_and_photos/

u/StoviesAreYummy thank you so much! A great many thanks to the developers of Disk Digger too. I don't think I saw the quality of the photos before they were deleted but they looked alright, I think we got most of them back, and I am really grateful that it was free.

Today was our day off after an intense, nonstop couple weeks which ended in a crazy crescendo of wrapping up a program I built for a nonprofit and I was really looking forward to resting. You all made that possible.

Thank you so much r/Android community!

Volume booster like viper4android without root?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 10:47 AM PDT

Does anyone know any apps that raises your phones volume even when the app is off like viper does? I use a regular volume booster now but every now and then it goes back to regular volume on its own and causes me to miss my alarms. I am unable to root my phone as it's a snapdragon s9.

I love those visualization apps that create interactive colors and graphics, like swirling lights, fluids, etc that follow your finger. Any recommendations?

Also the ones that follow the beat of music. But especially ones that are interactive.

    Microsoft apps appreciation

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 12:53 AM PDT

Anybody else just love using Microsoft apps? Microsoft has been giving special attention to it's android apps since the death of windows phones. I've been using 3rd party sms, notes, launchers since years and now all of these are almost replaced by Microsoft apps. I'm surprised by how well they work on android phones and how feature packed these are, being completely free! Here are some apps that i use and recommend:

Sms organizer: Hands down the best sms app imo. Apart from basic sms classifications into categories, it can read OTP to directly copy from notifications, keeps track of your finances (all bank/wallet accounts in one place), dark mode, automatic backup to google drive etc. Don't see myself switching away from this anytime soon

OneNote: Long time google keep user but had to look for alternatives when i had to use note taking more on my PC for assignments. And boy do i have to try a TON before settling on this. After weeks of using Evernote, OneNote, zoho notebook, simple notes simultaneously, Onenote was easy and fun to use on PC, and quite good on phone. Features like Markdown, tags, heirarchy management with notebooks, sections and further sections, file attachments etc. However phone app can be improved with dark mode and few more features that desktop already has. And it gets update every week so it'll improve.

Microsoft launcher: This one has a ton of features and can be a bit overwhelming. But once you get comfortable it has a few neat tricks that other launchers lack. Left side feed with widgets (like shelf on OnePlus) and news and other information, swipe up on dock for quick settings, impressive UI with blur elements, dark more and more. This is not my go to launcher because it lacks some folder icon customisation and I'm a freak for android theming, hence I can't ditch nova. But it's fresh to use it once in a while for better productivity. It's easier to use and get more stuff on your home screen.

Microsoft to do list: This is my most recent addition to apps i use daily because it's completely free and has amazing UI. But i still feel it's kinda new and need a lot of updates before i use it full time for all my task management. I've tried tick tick, todoist and any.do but all of them require premium (membership based) for many important features which i find expensive. Atleast some of them are already in Microsoft to do hence I'm optimistic. I currently use stuff widget which is a light app but has mostly what i need. But I'm still in for trying other daily management apps if you guys have a solid recommendation. My needs are: create a list of things to do tomorrow in a smart list "tomorrow" so that all those tasks move to "today" after date changes, widget with all tasks in every category displaying in one list, reminders for individual tasks, decent UI.

Share your WiFi, split the bill.

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 05:58 AM PDT

    Hello, fellow Redditors

Sometimes getting an internet connection can be expensive and inconvenient with all the contract clauses and installation terms. Even worse, let's say you just moved to a new building, still unpacking your belongings and have to face no internet connection in your home. Yet you have plenty of WiFi networks in your signal range that are visible from your phone. Nowadays, you can't really do anything, you will have to pay more and wait longer until you can get your network from an internet provider days from now.

The same happens if you are unsatisfied with the price options you have in your area, there's none you can afford entirely or maybe you would just like to make some savings. Also, you may not want to compromise with the time required for a setup or at least a yearlong contract, because you may want to move sooner or for other reason.

So I recently developed an app to solve this issue and I would appreciate some feedback from the community. It's called WiSplit, you can find more about it on the Play Store. Even if you already have an internet connection, you can start sharing your connection for those who suffer from the causes above while making extra money.

    Android messages for web

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 07:31 PM PDT

To those who use this, would you classify the experience as anything other than broken?

I've tried different devices and network environments, the wait times are atrocious

I mean it technically works, but will on occasion lose connection and the only sure way to fix is to reset both devices and start fresh.

This is basically what some people would think to use as an iMessage type of app, though I've never used iMessage, I can't imagine it being this bad

Request: Any 3D game that allows you to place virtual cameras and generate 3D (animated) movies. The movie generation could be the primary function or secondary, like if it's a car racing game and you want to review the racing action.

I'm looking for apps where I can be the director for camera placement or more, like maybe even transitions and lighting.
