How Google Play “Terminated” a Developer for No Reason

Android Emulator codename Picasso. Really fun bug when you remove android:windowBackground from styles.

How to get removed Google Play app back in good standing?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 11:52 AM PDT

I had a couple of ancient Unity apps that fail to open in more recent versions of Android. This year Google Play removed them from the store for violating the Broken Functionality Policy. I was just going to unpublish them, but I saw on here that Google has emailed some developers saying it still has to be fixed. (Anyway, you cannot choose to unpublish when it's in Removed state). So I am trying to update them first before unpublishing to reduce the risk of Google's automatic nuclear option on my developer account.

So I've got the game working again and uploaded a new build and promoted it to release. However, the Play console still shows it as "Removed".

Has anyone else been in this situation? Does it stay in this state for a while before going back to normal?

    Thanks.

How to fix Android emulator screen on Windows 10?

How to fix Android emulator screen on Windows 10?

Hi. I am running Windows 10 and I am trying to run the default Android Studio emulator, now emulating a Google Pixel 2, the problem is that I am getting it this way with no way of changing the size of the emulator. It's been a while since I' ve opened Android Studio, but last time it worked as intended. I tried reinstalling and it didn't work, also I couldn't find any relevant information online.

Below is how I am seeing the emulator.

Google said new rating system starts in August but it isn't applied yet. When is it going to start?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 09:31 AM PDT

Google said new rating system starts in August but it is still not applied. I am wondering when it is going to start. Anyone who knows about it?

Edit: Actually I saw my developer console and it said new rating system is being rolled out but my rating on Play Store is still old version.

Those of you without the resources to port your app to iOS, how do you feel about that?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 02:00 AM PDT

I have an idea for a very unique social media style app and I only have the resources to develop it on Android (ie I don't have a Mac).

Though I know success is VERY unlikely, I've been having thoughts about my app possibly going big on Android, and then having someone create a copycat of my app on iOS which becomes bigger than my own.

Does this thought ever come to you guys?

all developers must complete the new target audience and content section of the Google Play Console by September 1st. What to do?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 05:08 AM PDT

    Anyone got that mail too?

Hello Google Play Developer,A few months ago we emailed you to let you know about our new Families policy. As part of the new policy, all developers must complete the new target audience and content section of the Google Play Console by September 1st.We are asking every developer to thoughtfully consider whether children are part of your target audience. For most developers, the target audience does not include children and this section should be relatively quick to complete. If children are part of your target audience, you must meet policy requirements in your app concerning content and handling of personally identifiable information. You can view more information on the Android developers website and in our blog post, and access training on Google Play's Academy for App Success.

What do I need to do?

Help with target audience and app content section in Play Console

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 01:24 PM PDT

Hello, i'm trying to fill the "target audience and content" section in the Play Console, but once i click "next" in the "Target age" tab, it skips the next options and jumps to "Store Presence" tab, and shows a message saying: "Your app is not elegible for Designed for Families, You've declared that your app will show ads that are not suitable for children, or are not from Google Play certified ad networks ". But i couldn't select the 'ads' options since it automatically skips that tab. Is this a bug? Or am i doing something wrong?

What is the best (and easiest) way to get an (debug) APK file of my GitHub project, when I'm not near my PC? Are there services that provide that?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 12:42 AM PDT

I need that to test and see the changes I make to my Android app project.

Edit: Still looking for service..., but I have tried Bitrise.io, after successfully building my project from the GitHub, I do not see the APK file anywhere. There is no apk in apps & artifacts. Maybe someone knows how to get apk in Bitrise? Still looking...

3D model display in an android app with interactivity.

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 11:32 AM PDT

Hi I'm new to android programming and can make simple apps using Kotlin. I have been tasked to add a 3D object viewer in an android app which will allow the user to interact with the different 3D objects in the view. The interaction should be such that it can have call backs to other activities.

How to I proceed with this? Which 3D object formats can support this. I'd also potentially want multiple 3D models in the same model file. I'd also like the 3D models o be coming from a remote internet location.

Any pointers and libraries or frameworks that help with this would be helpful.

The target device is minimum Android api level 24 so can't use ARCore or sceneform afaik.

    Thanks.

How come the prices I set for IAPs on Google Play don't included VAT but are the ones the user pays?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 10:14 AM PDT

When you specify pricing for an IAP on Google Play, the console states that the specified price does not include taxes. But then, testing it, it seems the user sees exactly the price I set on the console. To my knowledge this means that, since AFAIk Google is responsible for handling taxes on purchases made through Google Play, either they're taking that off of their own cut, or mine (which I'd see illogical since the pricing configuration explicitly excludes tax costs). Is there anywhere where this is explained, or does anyone have any experience?

Help me to implement this Idea ?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 09:38 AM PDT

This idea comes from a common problem.

Many school , college even university does not have tech class room. They even don't have sound system in classroom.

For this reason, last bench student can not listen Lecture.

But we have phone. Android is dominating.

I want to build an app that transmits voice from first bench to last bench via mobile wifi.It does not use internet.

In summary, a speaker speaks and that capture it. Then it sends this audio nearest phone. These phone play this audio and sends it to others phone. By this process, audio is transmitted all phone.

    Problem is ,

    1. How to send and receive data simultaneously in Android ( without internet )?

    2. What topic should I learn to build this app?

( I have basic knowledge of Android app Development )

How To directly open BiometricPreference screen in android pie

I'm trying to authenticate user in my application using the BiometricPrompt. Now on some devices like Samsung Galaxy S8 running Android Pie, shows the preffered authentication which maybe Iris,Face, and Finger Print but I only want my user to use Finger Print. In order to only show Finger Print in Android Pie user needs to set his/her preferred biometeric to finger print. The screen is showing below.

    https://i.redd.it/2yg0shrpy0h31.jpg

The thing I want to achieve is to directly open this activity in settings and let the user to select the finger print preference for my application. Is there any way to directly open this setting activity via android Intent?

    Thanks in advance.

To Kotlin or not To Kotlin

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 11:02 AM PDT

Decided to pick up Android Development. So far mostly worked with C# but had been coding in Java (long time ago).

Now we have Kotlin and i never even heard of it. So question is, Should i start with Kotlin or Java?

From my experience, programming language is only 20 english words so it's not a problem. Biggest problem is APIs. So if i am coding in Kotlin but using Java APIs i would rather code in Java and avoid the headache of interoperability or marshaling data between 2 languages.

    Thanks.

First time publishing, have some doubts about updates and prelaunch reports..

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 11:26 PM PDT

This is my first time publishing android app and i have some questions , please help me.

    1. How much do pre launch reports matter , do i have to fix every crash or my app won't publish and i have specific intent failing on a device to open link in browser in pre launch report because of device might not have the app to handle that intent , should i worry about it ?
    2. In open beta track after i roll out a release does it appear on playstore if i search or do i have to use the opt in url only ?
    3. Does the publishing or review process restart every time i rollout a new release even if the previous rollout has not been published or reviewd but i have seen it's prelaunch report ?
