Making Google Doc capitalize character names and places Posted: 30 Jul 2019 06:39 PM PDT I'm currently writing with google docs and I'm finding it very frustrating that no matter what options I check it seems to never want to auto capitalize a name. I have tried using the 'replace' feature but that only words base on capitalization. Example: I type- kevin What I want to happen automatically kevin -> Kevin I have tried finding an answer on google but everything is just giving me how to auto capitalize the first word of a sentence or how to add words to the auto replace feature. Problem with auto replace is its case sensitive but only with the first letter. Example: kevin -> kevin (all lowercase) K -> KEVIN (all caps) Any help? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jul 2019 12:17 AM PDT My computer: MB: Asus Crosshair VII Hero X470, bios version 2501 CPU: Ryzen 3700x OS: Windows 10 Home, 1903 update CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D15 with both the included fans Recent changes: Installed the latest AMD chipset drivers, version 1.07.07.0725 Yesterday I was playing Just Cause 3 for a while. I had just installed the latest chipset drivers and was also running HWiNFO64 to check if boost behavior seemed to have changed any with their revised power plans for Windows. I can't see how this could affect my CPU fans, but it's the only recent change I've made to the system. I didn't keep looking at the monitoring program for long, but when I turned off the game I looked over at it and saw my CPU temperature at 94 degrees, CPU fan speeds at 0 RPM. Because I wanted to know if it was a reporting error I opened the side panel before turning off the computer and checked, and the fans were indeed completely stopped. This is weird because my bios settings are set to give an error if fan speed goes under a certain RPM (unfortunately I don't remember the exact settings right now, I'll check bios after posting this). Now I can't really say why this would ever happen. Even if the motherboard would somehow get the wrong temperature reported, my fan curve is set so that the fans are spinning at around 600 RPM (the point at which they are still silent to me in my case) up until the CPU is getting above 65 degrees or so, when they start ramping up. I think I can eliminate some common reasons for fans not spinning:The fan curve doesn't allow the fans to ever spin so slowly that they should have any risk of stalling. The two fans are connected individually to the CPU fan and CPU opt fan headers, so they should definitely have plenty of power and there is no potentially faulty Y-split on the way. And the problem is probably not electrically with the fan header, since both fans stopped and they're on individual headers. The cooler and fans are brand new, and even if there's a manufacturing defect in one, it seems highly unlikely that it'd be the problem because, again, both had stopped. I've also tried spinning the fans manually when the computer is off, and feel no obstructions. So, does anyone know any other reason that the fans would just stop spinning? I suspect if anything is at fault, it's the motherboard. However I can't very well RMA it if the problem can't be replicated, so I'm waiting to see if it happens again to try to determine if there's any pattern to it. However, while the problem hasn't occurred again, I have to admit that it doesn't leave me a lot peace of mind to know that they just stopped without warning. So for now I'm running HWiNFO at all times, setting it to alert me if fan speeds for CPU or CPU opt drop below 400 RPM. Other than this, what should I do to monitor the situation and try to determine what might be happening? I see that HWiNFO can run a command too when it's in an alert situation. I'm now pondering telling it to run a batch file when CPU fan speeds drop - write a log file with time and what triggered the alert, and shut the computer down so it' safe if I've left it. I'm not sure exactly how to do this on Windows... Would it need to be run at some elevated system privileges to do this? I can read up on this myself, but just thought of it while writing the post so I might as well ask. Would be grateful for any suggestions :) \Edit: I've checked and the minimum fan duty cycle set in my bios fan cure is 42%. I'm using the Noctua "low-noise adapters", but I don't think the fans would stall at 42%, and were probably spinning faster while playing game anyway.* [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jul 2019 02:18 AM PDT Hell guys I recently bought a laptop HP 2510p for cheap to experiment with. It comes with Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR2 ram. I was wandering if a RAM upgrade to 4GB would make the machine work faster? I'm also considering a SSD upgrade. I'll be running Linux on it if it matters. Cheers. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jul 2019 03:00 AM PDT ** update It's a freshly formatted HD, which has passed numerous tests. So has the RAM, motherboard and processor. They all work fine in Linux booting from a USB, yet the Win 7 USB is struggling to load just like the issue in the Win 7 install I just wiped! 1st time the win7 usb loaded fine and began installing. It slowed again while unpacking and never moved from 0%, so I stopped it and tried to begin again. That's when the windows opening logo loading from the usb returned to a few frames, freeze, a few more, freeze. I thought it was running hot as I recorded the motherboard and CPU at 87 degrees - but if that were the issue it would load fine 1st thing in the morning, but it doesn't. I also found a few forum threads of x230 owners saying their laptops reach those temps while gaming. More confusing, it very occasionally runs fine for a few mins then stops. I've taken the HDD and RAM out and put them back in, and they've passed stress tests and run fine in Linux so I don't think it can be them. It can't be the battery as it's the same in or out. Why would it work on Linux and not Wins? ** previous post The testing I've done is limited due to taking a billion years to do anything. I tested everything in bios as it's running full speed there. Lenovo X230. I7 with 16gb ram and both solid state and normal hard drives. Only bought it a month back, but no issues at all until today. Nothing happened, just yesterday it was fine, today is like a snail humping a keychain by mistake. The mouse is jumpy because the computer can't keep up with the speed is being moved at. I have to inch it around. In windows I did this:
Curious notes: the system clock is correct in bios, and every time I load Windows. It instantly begins falling behind once loaded. Each minute on the clock in the bottom right window = 10mins in the real world. Loading programs with a count feature, they also run in slow-mo. Power Iso has a 5 sec count to upgrade before you use it.. it was an eternity to wait for it to count down. I can get access to another laptop tomorrow, but I've got a deadline and REALLY would like it fixed today.. it's 11pm now so not looking likely. Anyone here got any ideas please.. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Jul 2019 04:02 AM PDT Please help, I recently bought a new rig, 2080,i7 and I'm trying to install Windows off a USB but it's not working, I made sure the USB was bootable and made sure it was prioritized in my bios, I have all the csm settings right made sure secure boot is off and have tried dozens of different combinations of bios settings but the best I can get is the windows logo on the screen and then it freezes. I just got the USB out of the box and installed Windows off of Microsoft's website. What am I doing wrong??? [link] [comments] |
6 Corsair ll120 fans, commander pro, and an rgb hub walk into a bar. Posted: 31 Jul 2019 03:48 AM PDT The 6 fans say "we're only going to work some of the time and by we I mean one or two of us at one time, only in the first and second port on the rgb hub (also Corsair)" I HAVE: •tried re arranging the the rgb hub and I could only get two fans lit up at one time on the front of the case, the cpu lights are worse, can't get one light to power on to white but it has a weird triangle pattern of red and green. And sometimes I can get one half lit, I know it's not a dead led because if I plug it into a different port I can get the same fan fully lit. •logging into icue software, my cpu bank lights up and is controllable, my Corsair vengeance ram sticks light up and is controllable, I can see the fans for the cpu but they don't light up and are NOT controllable, and I can see the commander pro, I added my number of fans and if you know icue software it manually creates a picture with how many fans you say you have, so I have no idea if it can read all of my fans hooked up or if it's just because I told it. •plugged one fan into the motherboard and it started beeping but the light on the fan turned to a solid red led instead of default white. •"Just google it" I did and many people suggest rearranging cords or they think it's a dead led. I HAVEN'T: •Tried every different combination on the rgb hub and the commander pro(it's 720 different combinations for both and then even more if they have to work together to match the same fan numbers. I hear Corsair support system is ass so I don't really want to have to open a ticket but if push comes to shove and I can't power through this then it looks like I'm in for a worse hell. Posted: 31 Jul 2019 03:47 AM PDT I have a 6 year old laptop with windows 7 and when I turned it on it first got stuck on welcome screen for 10 minutes and when it loaded it was extremely slow ( if I right clicked the menu would show up a minute later ) and I got a system message that avira antivirus is turned off. I tried to turn it back on but the screen froze and after a couple of minutes I decided to turn off the computer by removing the battery. So what could be the reason for this and how do I fix it? Posted: 30 Jul 2019 10:11 PM PDT I tried to install my old copy of Adobe CS4 from CD. The serial authentication server has been taken down though as the product is too old. I have this software currently installed on an old HDD, would it be possible to transfer that CS4 installation to another SSD? If not, would I be able to transfer the entire HDD to SSD and use the software that way? Are there any other methods? [link] [comments] |
Brand new Windows laptop is incredibly slow. Posted: 30 Jul 2019 08:24 PM PDT I bought my wife a new Acer Aspire 5 with an AMD Ryzen 3 3200U (2c/4t) to use for browsing the internet and using Word. It came with Windows 10 in S-mode. I could change this but didn't think it would be necessary for what she needs it for... but wow this thing can't even keep up with me while typing this post. I'm literally getting half way through a sentence before the words are showing up. This isn't an issue for Microsoft office... just Edge it seems. I even bought an 8 GB RAM stick to bring it from 4 GB to 12 but it didn't help. Web pages take way too long to load as well. I got this for Prime Day so I could return it but I figured I'd try and troubleshoot first. Any idea what might be the issue? Thanks. Edit: it's running on a 128 GB NVMe SSD. Edit 2: I'm at around 15% CPU utilization, 35% memory, 47% GPU while watching a YouTube video but it is very slow to respond to any inputs. [link] [comments] |

Differences in Hotspot Device Prices? Posted: 31 Jul 2019 04:08 AM PDT I'm looking to pick up a Cellular Hotspot as my only option for home internet and after looking around I've noticed they can range vastly in price from $50-$500. Lots of people have recommended the nighthawk m1 to me but for $250 I don't really understand what it is giving me that cheaper alternatives are not. Can someone explain the price differences between cheaper and more expensive devices? I plan to use this as a family home internet source with a family of 4, two heavy users that enjoy online gaming and streaming as well. Thanks to anyone willing to help me understand and make the best choice! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jul 2019 04:00 AM PDT Hi, I hope this is the right subreddit to post this in, but here it goes. I'm planning on moving my PC from my parents' house to my room in my appartement (it's in a different city because I attend uni there). The only problem is that my room has a shared en-suite bathroom, with a poorly functioning ventilation system. After a shower my room can get pretty humid. Will this damage my PC in the long run? Can I solve it by putting a towel over my PC when it's not in use? Any and all suggestions are welcome. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jul 2019 03:55 AM PDT Earlier I had a bluescreen error for the first time in years, it read something along the lines of: "PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA, MEMORY MANAGEMENT" The bluescreen error then stayed at 0% so after 30 minutes I manually reset the computer. From there it wouldn't properly boot up. All the fans would spin and hard drives turn on but no display out and no actual boot. The computer has 4 x 4GB ram sticks. I removed two of them and it booted and after playing with different combinations I found that one stick, regardless of the slot, would cause the failure. Two questions:
