Question About Life Expectancy for an Acer Aspire 7 A715-72G-72ZR Posted: 24 Jul 2019 03:30 PM PDT I've been doing a lot of research lately trying to find the best value multipurpose laptop that is going to last a few good years and I feel like the version of the acer aspire 7 mentioned in the title is as good as it's going to get. The specs are: GPU: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB GDDR5 CPU: Intel Core i7 8th Gen 8750H (2.20 GHz) Memory: 8 GB Memory Storage: 1 TB HDD 128 GB SSD From my understanding, this laptop has good value and should last a while, but I know that some people say acer is a low quality brand. I'm wondering if I can realistically expect this laptop to run pretty smoothly for the next 2/3+ years? [link] [comments]
Help Choosing RAM for ASUS K501UW-AB78 Posted: 24 Jul 2019 02:52 PM PDT First link that came up was Crucial 16GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM. I've never heard of Crucial. People seem to like Corsair, but when I search for compatible Corsair RAM for my ASUS K501UW-AB78 I can't find anything that says 100% that it is compatible. Would any DDR4 SODIMM work? Are there any brands that are more dependable than others? I'm also unsure about the speed. I've read that you want to get as fast a speed as possible, but I have also read that ideally you want all the RAM to match. The ASUS K501UW-AB78 comes with 8GB that is soldered into the motherboard. I've looked through the manual, and online, and used tools like CPU-Z but I cant seem to find out what brand or speed the built-in RAM is. In CPU-Z the DRAM Mhz fluctuates but is usually around 1064, the NB Frequency fluctuates all over the place, from ~700 to ~2800. I'm not sure what either of those numbers mean or if they will tell me what the MHz of the built-in RAM is. If I can find 3300MHz, would the extra speed be wasted because the built-in RAM is only 2400 (if it is)? Or would 3300 be better than 2400? [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Jul 2019 02:07 PM PDT Model number: HP ENVY - 13-ah0001na When I bought this laptop, I could find very little information about the HP Envy 13 online. After purchasing and using it for a few months, I thought I would write a simple review. Specs: Intel i5-8250U, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce MX150 Weight: 1.3kg Screen Resolution: 1920 x 1080 IO: 2 USB-A, UBS 3 no thunderbolt, mirco SD reader, 3mm headphone jack Price £749 Bought on March 2019 The Good: The keyboard feels brilliant to type on, and I can do so very quickly with minimal mistakes. I was worried about using a laptop keyboard, but this keyboard has gotten rid of all my doubts. The laptop had an outstanding price. Other similar laptops I looked at before purchasing were in the range of £1000. Excellent build quality, feels very premium and solid to use. No complaints at all. The laptop runs very quiet and I have not encountered any issues with thermals. However, I am not a power user. I have also not had any issues with coil whine. The Okay: The speakers are made by Bang and Olfsen and advertised as one of the main points of this laptop. But in the end, it is just a laptop speaker and really isn't that impressive. The sound quality is adequate for me and perfectly suitable for everyday media consumption. The screen resolution is only 1080p, which is more than fine in my opinion for a 13" screen. The touchscreen is wonderful and something that I use a lot. However, the screen really isn't very vibrant nor very bright. IO: It has USB-A ports, but no thunderbolt or a full HDMI. You will need a USB C dongle with this laptop. Battery life is 6-8hrs of casual use. I rarely need to charge the laptop during the day, so the battery is no issue. Bad: The trackpad is probably my biggest issue with this laptop. The trackpad is very small, infuriatingly inaccurate at times and has a large dead area where you cannot start swiping. Thankfully I tend to use a mouse when doing anything important. The fingerprint reader is in a very awkward position, and usually takes me multiple tries to find. The reader also seems to be very inaccurate and a lot of the times I end up having to type my pin in. Others: Gaming: Although the PC contains an MX150, I have not done much gaming on the laptop, only playing casual games such as Minecraft. This has run with 0 issues. Overall I am very happy with this laptop. [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Jul 2019 12:35 PM PDT I'm entering my freshmen year for college and am looking to buy a new laptop. I would ideally like a laptop that can be used for school work (I'm a bio major so it needs to be able to handle the courses), run video games such as overwatch and be a 2-in-1. Price is not an issue, does anyone have any suggestions? [link] [comments]

I finally found a budget 2-in-1! Now I don't know what to do... Posted: 24 Jul 2019 11:07 AM PDT I know no one remembers or cares, but I've been on a long quest to find an impossible deal on two 2-in-1 laptops for my kids at extremely low prices. Well, a friend just called and said they found [this](https://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-15-bp152wm-15-6-FHD-Touchscreen-Laptop-Intel-i7-8550U-4GB-SDRAM-16GB-RAM-1TB-HDD-Ash-Silver/757124888?u1) laptop for $250! They picked it up for me, but it's not in hand yet. I know that there are a lot of upgrades that people typically recommend for laptops, and I'm wondering if anyone knows what I'll need to do to this. I'm sure I'll need to upgrade the RAM. I'm hoping it will have space for an SDD so I don't have to completely give up the 1 TB of storage. If not, is the 16 GB optane combined with the HDD good enough? Most importantly, perhaps, I've seen a lot of posts recently about laptops that need "BIOS fixes" and other technical software stuff. Does anyone know if that's the case here? Sorry for the lame post, but I could really use some help, and I'm in way over my head. I know some of these questions will be answered when I get the unit in hands, but I'm a bit excited... Now I just have to find a second once-in-a-lifetime clearance deal so my kids don't fight over this unit... [link] [comments]
What are the differences between Predator Helios 300 2018 version and 2019 version? Posted: 24 Jul 2019 06:29 AM PDT So I have been looking for a laptop for some time now, and came across the Acer Predator Helios 300. It seems there is a 2018 version and a 2019 version of it, so I was wondering what were the differences between the two models. I can't seem to find any information online, so I figured I'd ask here. Also, how can I distinguish between the versions when buying online? [link] [comments]
Deciding between 2019 Dell XPS 13 and 2 in 1s Posted: 24 Jul 2019 09:52 AM PDT I am an engineering and business student going into my second year and my old bulky 15.6" isn't cutting it. I have been looking to buy a new laptop for awhile now and have basically fallen in love with the XPS 13. The only thing that is holding me back is it not being a 2 in 1 for the cost. Looking at deals (just at Best Buy) I could get the HP Spectre x360, a 2 in 1, for around 100 dollars cheaper. But, the build of the XPS 13 is better (better materials and a screen without a fat upper bezel). Does anybody have any personal experience with 2 in 1s? Do you think it is worth getting the spectre just for the 2 in 1? I also am considering a the Lenovo Yoga c930 (nearly exactly what I want, but that is a couple hundred more expensive. By the way I am looking at 4k, 16gb, 256 or 512 SSD, and 8th gen i7 for both laptops [link] [comments]
Laptop basically has no connection Posted: 24 Jul 2019 09:32 AM PDT The computer is an Acer E15, i3-7100u, 4gb of ddr4, 1tb hdd, and is running windows. Kind of an older setup, I know, but I got it as a gift a few years back. I haven't really used it on a daily basis since it's connection is so ridiculously slow that I'd rather use my ps4's web browser. Basically the connection is just bad and takes ages to load stuff, if it doesn't time out first, it and even downloads stuff in kilobytes. The only time the connection has been decent is when I am using a wired connection, which isn't exactly something I want to do all the time, since I don't want to sit in ny living room all the time. I'm not really trying to play games or do anything crazy on this machine, I just want to use it to watch stuff, browse social media, etc. Is there anything I can do to fix this or should I just try and sell it? Need help buying a laptop for college Posted: 24 Jul 2019 08:45 AM PDT Hey, I am soon heading off for college and am in desperate need of a new laptop. I would prefer to get a 2 in 1 laptop tablet with a stylus. I like taking notes by hand and storing them digitally and I don't want to carry around tons of notebooks that I can risk losing. The laptop should also be small-medium sized and relatively light because I want to take it with me to all my classes. It should also last a long time and have relatively good battery life. My budget for this laptop is anything below or very close to $1000 even though something cheaper would be preferable. Do you guys have any advice? Thanks so much! [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jul 2019 09:21 PM PDT Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a new laptop and noticed a big price differential between the same laptop with a 1TB hdd and 512gb SSD. I was thinking of ordering the HDD version, a SSD on the side and opening the laptop to replace the hdd with the SSD. That would come out cheaper by like $100. Anyone has done this before? Is it a good idea? Do you see any downside to this? [link] [comments]

Downgrade suggestion a.k.a. i despise my gaming laptop Posted: 24 Jul 2019 02:18 AM PDT I'll try to keep this short, i currently own a Gigabyte Aero 15w8 that i mainly use for programming, writing and photo editing. I bought it cause i thought i would also be able to game on it but it turns out that i don't have time and i don't really like to game on laptops at all for various reasons (biggest one being that it runs scary hot). Right now i'm in the spot where i feel like i need something smaller/more compact and less heavy asap, i hate carrying around a 2kg laptop that i don't even use to its fullest. I'm definitely ok with downgrading specs, but what i still want, coming from the aero, is a good keyboard, mid to good battery life, a beatiful screen and a quasi premium building quality. Of course i kinda follow the laptop world since i did my due research when picking the aero so i've got a few options already in my head: matebook x pro/matebook 13, dell xps 13 and thinkpad x1 (the x1 feels a bit overpriced) EDIT: i don't need or want a laptop with a dedicated gpu at all, maybe a mx250 would be nice but i really don't care at this point Maybe somebody can relate and give me a good suggestion, sorry for not using the form in this case but the post felt too specific for it.
