How do I backup encrypted /data partition Posted: 03 Jul 2019 08:51 PM PDT I cant use TWRP since my data partition is encrypted. All google searches said to format /data to disable encryption, but this would wipe all my data. I don't believe that there isn't a simple way to make a full device backup if you have root access. Few questions: 1) Is there anyway to get and pass the encryption key to TWRP so that it could mount the /data partition and operate as intended. 2) Even if the partition is encrypted, can't twrp simply make an image backup of the NAND in its encrypted state. Surely writing the encrypted nand back onto the device would revert it to the backed up state. (The conents of backup just wouldn't be externally browsable). 3) Why does the backup even have to be created from recovery mode where the partitions cannot be properly mounted. For backups, wouldn't it be possible to tar (copy) the contents of /data once the device boots up normally and is in a decrypted state. Wouldn't extracting the tar back into /data function as a backup method. What can I do to backup the device? Or disable the encryption. Should I use dd to grab all the mmc blocks under /dev/block? Which blocks correspond to user data?? Should I tar the contents from /system and /data after the system is in a booted state? I want to play around and make more configurations to my device, but don't want to lose my data if I end up in a bootloop. [link] [comments] |

Is 5G software or hardware based? Posted: 03 Jul 2019 07:53 AM PDT Currently im using LTE (i assume its 4g) on my android mobile phone (Samsung) and now im considering switching to a Huawei P30 Pro, in the internet it says that P30 Pro is not viable with 5g although in the mobile-phone-shop they told me everyone phone in the near future will be 5g proved. And today ive read that Huawei brought out their first 5g mobile phone, Huawei 20 x 5G or similar ... So, is 5g now software or hardware based? [link] [comments] |
Trying to backup appdata from unrooted Razer Phone 2 (Android Pie) Posted: 03 Jul 2019 08:51 PM PDT I currently have 2 Razer Phone 2s (the older one will be sent back for RMA due to a defective Type C port). Both are running Pie and whatever the latest patches were for this phone. The original was never rooted (I regret this now) and the refurb I received for the RMA has been rooted successfully w/ Magisk installed. I'm trying to restore my apps and data from the old phone to the new one but the most I can seem to do is restore my apps without their data. Here are things I've tried:
Is this some sort of security feature or something in Android Pie preventing the backup of app data? Is there any other way I can create a backup of my app data from my original RP2 phone without root? Did I miss anything within the things I've tried that should've worked? I'm happy to give anything a shot at this point. [link] [comments] |
Stolen phone: Google Find My Device - for phone erasure, location must be turned on? Posted: 03 Jul 2019 04:24 PM PDT I can't currently locate my phone using Google Find My Device: location and mobile data are turned off at the time of phone being lost, and the phone is locked with a passcode.BUT should my phone come online again, I hope that the erasure will happen.Odds of the thief turning on location are zero, but they may turn on internet. NOW, would erasure still happen even if location is switched off? Google find my device states that:To use Find My Device, a lost Android device must: Be turned, signed in to a Google Account, connected to mobile data or Wi-Fi, Have Location turned on, Have Find My Device turned on. AND For phone erasure,If your device is offline, erasing will begin when it next comes online. TLDR: It makes sense that for google to locate the phone, location must be switched on... but for phone erasure, must location also be switched on??? [link] [comments] |

Google Play Services High Data Usage Posted: 03 Jul 2019 02:03 PM PDT I got a new phone about 2 weeks ago and just noticed that Google Play Services is using about 40mb per day. It was doing that on my old phone too. The thing is I have not installed any apps on the new phone yet and syncing is disabled. I'm kinda lost on what could cause this. Is my Google account broken? The new phone is a Pixel 3 btw [link] [comments] |

C25k app won't stay active in background after Android 9 update (on Honor 9) Posted: 03 Jul 2019 12:28 PM PDT I've been using the C25k app for running for several weeks without any problems. After the Android 9 update, when I start the running session, the timer goes off a few minutes after I turn off the display. I've already disabled the automatic app management in the battery settings, but nothing changed [link] [comments] |
Alcatel 3 Text Messaging Issues Posted: 03 Jul 2019 03:55 PM PDT Hi there, I was wondering if I could get some help with a problem I have been experiencing since I got a new phone. For some unknown reason in some of my conversations I can see both sides of the conversation and in others I can only see either replies from a contact or my messages to them I can't see anything in options that would cause it to happen at random to my contacts. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Please see samples in imgur link. Thank you :) [link] [comments] |
A way to turn off or deactivate the default pull down notification shade? Posted: 03 Jul 2019 03:33 PM PDT I'm trying a pull from bottom notification shade, but wanted to turn off the pull down one to help me get used to using it. It's called MIUI-ify. It looks amazing, but I forget it's there until Im done using my normal notification shade. My Moto Z2 play isn't rooted, and I've been kind of avoiding doing it to avoid making a mistake that breaks it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jul 2019 03:09 PM PDT I recently switched to Android from iOS and there was a podcast app called 'Castro' which would extend its sleep time countdown once the time ran out if I just pressed the play button on my bluetooth speaker once the audio went silent. I can't seem to find a universal Android app in the Play Store that has a feature like. The closest thing those apps have is if you shake your phone it will extend the timer, which is not what I'm looking for, since my phone will not be within reach . Any suggestions? Problem with screen turning off when putting phone in my ear Posted: 03 Jul 2019 03:01 PM PDT You know how the screen turns off when you are in a call or listening to a WhatsApp audio and you take your phone to your ear? Well, it obviously happens to me, but in my case the screen keeps black and I can't interact with it for a few seconds after taking the phone back to my hand again. It only gets back to normal when the other person hangs up or when the audio stops. I lock and unlock the phone, shake it, move it back to my ear and back to a normal position, nothing happens. It's not always, but most if the time happens and it's really uncomfortable not being able to hang up a call or use my phone at all until the other person does it. Transferring whatsapp chats ios to android Posted: 03 Jul 2019 08:33 AM PDT Hi everyone, basically my girlfriend has recently upgraded her phone from iPhone 7 to Huawei p30. Every other part of the upgrade went sound apart from we cant find a way to restore her chat history to her new phone. It's really important as she has a lot of uni groups and need the info from the chats. I know there isn't an official way to do it and theres a few paid apps out there (drfone, wazzapmigrator etc). She paid £20 for drfone and it didn't work. I've read a few posts that vouch for wazzapmigrator however she didn't want to spend more if it's not going to work. I think the problem is were backing up to iCloud and trying to restore from Google drive, but there must be a way around this. It feels like it would be a common problem. Any advice on how we can sort this would be hugely appreciated, is there a way we could access the her iphone in file view and drag and drop the whatsapp folder into her new phone? I'm terrible with phones and stuff so kind of lost here. Thank you for any help. [link] [comments] |
Samsung J7 No Data After Android 9 Update Posted: 03 Jul 2019 01:44 PM PDT I have a Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo (2017) on ATT. On Monday the new Android 9 software was pushed to my phone. I was running some version of 8 beforehand. I currently get Wifi, calls and texts but no actual data.I've tried everything from turning on and off data, to resetting APN settings, deleting cache, reseating the Sim card, and doing 2 factory resets. Both samsung help line and ATT store were no help. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Does anyone have any other ideas to try? I'm starting to think it's an issue somehow not recognizing this type of phone's modem, but I could be way off. [link] [comments] |
Does anyone have a copy of 'lineage-15.1-20190226-nightly-dumpling-signed'or similar? Posted: 03 Jul 2019 12:37 PM PDT I don't like the looks of LineageOS 16 so I'd like to downgrade. I've searched everywhere, lineageos.org, archive.org, the-eye.eu, wayback.com, etc., nothing. It looks like it has beennerased from the internet or something. Does someone have a backup and let me download it please? Please, no funny business, I will do a hash check. No threatening intended. [link] [comments] |
Bluetooth volume mutes after connecting Posted: 03 Jul 2019 11:14 AM PDT Phone: LG G7 One Android: 9.0 Bluetooth speaker: Anker SoundCore Mini As soon as my phone connects to the speaker, Bluetooth media volume automatically mutes. This started happening a number of months ago, before that the volume would be up after a connection (don't remember if it would recall the previous volume setting or not). Can anyone help? I have tried forgetting and repairing the device with no luck. [link] [comments] |
