What makes the Blaster and Sasser virus unique? Posted: 01 May 2019 01:35 PM PDT I got this question during a job interview. What answer would you have given? I'm not really sure what answer they were looking for, maybe I'm overanalyzing it. EDIT: Thanks for the replies everyone! I just wanted to see if there was anything obvious I was missing. There's a lot of potential answers to this. [link] [comments]

I loved Windows 7, but an accident forced Windows 10 on me and now... I kind of love it. Posted: 30 Apr 2019 09:30 PM PDT So, my old PC died. I decided to throw 5k at a new beast machine, not realizing that I wouldn't be able to use my Windows 7 drive with all these new parts I purchased. Begrudgingly, I bit the bullet and installed Windows 10 after years of holding out because of all the negative things I kept hearing. I've been using it for just one day, and yes - I turned a whole slew of options off but to be honest, I'm loving Win10 a lot so far. I hope this is the beginning of a very long time with a fast and awesome OS that will only improve with time. So if you 'hate' Windows 10 and are sticking with 7 still, that's cool - but just know that as someone who absolutely loved 7, I'm definitely falling fast for 10. [link] [comments]

[Bug][Help] - Audio Stutter and Forced Restart (Windows 10) Posted: 01 May 2019 01:10 PM PDT When running a game and browser on my two monitors, after some time audio will shortly stutter and my PC will turn off and, shortly after, restart. I would like to know if anyone has a similar issue and if so how can I fix it? I will be happy to provide more detail over the next few hours if necessary [link] [comments]
How does the Windows product key tie itself with the hardware? Posted: 01 May 2019 06:17 PM PDT I changed my motherboard, and I received a message about a software being counterfeit. A quick look around, and I found out that the product key for my OS uses info related from my motherboard. Then I entered the product key again for my OS. Where can I find something more official from Microsoft regarding what's going on? I couldn't find anything, and I'm curious to know what info it uses from the motherboard, and how often does it check for said info. [link] [comments]
Good, free alternatives to the Sticky Notes app? Posted: 01 May 2019 08:38 AM PDT I'm working with a Win10 company image that doesn't come installed with the Windows Store or any Windows Store apps installed, including sticky notes. I have a user that really, really wants them on her computer, but I've been having trouble reinstalling the Windows Sticky Notes app, which might have something to do with the way our group policy and images are setup. Either way, are there any good alternatives out there that I can throw on this user's machine? I did a little research, but found nothing concrete on a collection of websites that I didn't trust to click "Download" on. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Does Fastboot affect hardware longevity? Posted: 01 May 2019 07:51 AM PDT Title + is the effect big enough that it would cause the laptop to not be usable for more than 2 years? [link] [comments]
Blue screen of death: 0x000001d8 Posted: 01 May 2019 03:13 AM PDT I am a basic Windows 10 on laptop user with little to none computer knowledge. My computer goes off very often in midst of browsing and it comes up with a blue screen with 0x000001d8 code. It's been happening almost every other day and I'm concerned. My laptop is 2 years old, a few months more maybe. Can someone explain in simple, layman's terms how to fix this/prevent things or what I should do differently? Also let me know if you need any other info? [link] [comments]
New Updates 10 will not work on my laptop, and my desktop is still on 7 Posted: 01 May 2019 08:11 AM PDT So I got a HP Stream a few years back to get me accustomed to Windows 10. Its been a nightmare as it can't update and when it did update it was causing issues where I had to factory reset 3 times. I have considered updating my desktop, but the latest updates have had reported issues and since I work on friends and family PCs, it feels like herding users to a OS that seems to be operating in beta testing stage of development would be unwise. What to do when my options are upgrading to a broken OS or keep an OS that will eventually be broken? [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 May 2019 12:43 AM PDT So, I live and work in a mixed macOS and Windows environment. I am used to the macOS scroll wheel behavior, which is the reverse of the Windows default. Which leads to the situation of me scrolling the Windows way on macOS or the macOS way on Windows and cursing myself all the time. At home, I can install any third party software (Windows 10), but at work, I can't install new software (restricted) and it is Windows 8.1 flavors (including 2016 server). Is there any setting on Windows 8.1 reversing a mouse scroll wheel? Maybe hidden or so, I didn't find it yet. Thanks! [link] [comments]
I removed 6GB Delivery optimization files and now start and settings app don't work (Win 10) Posted: 01 May 2019 04:21 AM PDT I wanted to clean up some space using disk cleanup but I think it removed something important. Trouble with windows 10 power options on new build Posted: 30 Apr 2019 10:05 PM PDT Hey everyone, I'll keep this as short as possible. Basically, I recently built my own pc. This is the first one I have built, so if it seems like a hardware issue then please let me know. With this new PC, came a new problem, which is that no matter which power option I use (as in sleep, shutdown, restart) it won't function properly. For each of them, the PC appears to sleep because it is not fully off yet not usable, but it responds to no input. My only option for turning it back on is to hold down the power button and force a shutdown and then power it on again. All help is appreciated, thanks! [link] [comments]
