Do you know any touchscreen laptop with a good graphics card? Posted: 01 May 2019 05:27 AM PDT I'm looking for a laptop that I can use for gaming and for studying since I'm in college, I really like the Lenovo c930 but it uses an Intel uhd graphics card which sucks for gaming also I love the legion y740 but it doesn't have touchscreen capability so yeah do you know a laptop that can mix them both? Also some people recommended that I buy the legion y740 and use the airbar, is it any good By a good graphic card I mean like a 1660ti, an rtx 2060 or maybe a 1070 as a high end Budget: 1500$-2000$ If it has a pen too then that would be awesome but it's not a must! Posted: 01 May 2019 03:07 AM PDT Hello, I recently bought a new pc, and dont use my laptop as my daily driver anymore but I'd still like to use it for work and school. That being said the boot time is ridiculously long, as I sit in the hp loading screen for 1-1:30 and then 5 minutes trying to load my desktop. If i were to drop an ssd into this laptop would it be worth it? I'm only planning on dropping in a 500 gig one if I do, but Im not sure if it will make a huge difference. [link] [comments]
Software engineer with $2,000 budget- what should I buy? Posted: 01 May 2019 02:23 PM PDT I'm a software engineer, and I've been running a Dell XPS for the last 6 years. My experience with it has been pretty decent, but I'm ready for something new. My budget is $2K. Specs I want: 32GB RAM I'm thinking about this with a few tweaks, which comes in just under $2K with current deals: Is there anything else I should consider? [link] [comments]
Laptop(preferably one that can become a tablet) for College Posted: 01 May 2019 02:15 PM PDT I am looking for a secondary small laptop. I will be using it for basic internet browsing and applications such as word and PowerPoint. I want a computer that can handle many tabs open while having an application like word open. Additionally want something that is portable and under 13". My max budget is $600. [link] [comments]

Acer Swift 3 vibrate when in charging Posted: 01 May 2019 02:12 PM PDT Hello everyone, I've recently bought an Acer Swift 3 and I've noticed that when I plug the charger in, the chassis starts to vibrate a little bit. The keys and the touchpad are not affected by this, only the metal parts. I think it's not a real vibration, but a small electrical charge, because it happens only when the charger or the ethernet cable (I use a powerline connected to the electrical system) are plugged in. My questions are : is my hypothesis correct? If so, is this harmful to the laptop or to me? [link] [comments]
Looking for a cheap gaming laptop. Posted: 01 May 2019 02:10 PM PDT Hey guys! As the title says, I'm looking for some cheap medicore laptop for gaming, since I already have quite powerful PC at home, and I need a laptop only for my studies. Currently I'm struggling with Lenovo B50-45, so I desperately need something new. My requirements are small: IPS matrix, non-soldered RAM, 4 cores and GTX 1050 or something of equal power from AMD. The cheaper = the better. I also prefer when the laptop comes without RAM, drives and OS, if it means the lower price. [link] [comments]
Looking For ultrabook with decent specs and battery life Posted: 01 May 2019 01:38 PM PDT I am looking for an ultrabook for doing work when i'm away from my PC. I develop games which would benefit a mx150. I do want decent battery life too as I will be away from power plugs most of the day. I am stuck between these two ultrabooks that are currently the same price on amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-13-ah0001na-13-3-Inch-Screen-Laptop/dp/B07DM8V781 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07NFJRL8K/ What are your thoughts? Laptop recommendation for university/media projects? Posted: 01 May 2019 01:13 PM PDT So Pending results I'll be heading to university (college) next year, and I find myself very reliant on computers naturally. My current laptop isn't even mine, and runs like a potato, with very little lifespan left, so naturally I'm looking to upgrade. I'm having a hard time however picking between laptop that runs windows or Apple software, let alone which model to get after that. Now there are several factors im keeping in mind. Firstly, cost. I'm pretty broke, but going to be working a lot this summer to pay for a car, this laptop and to save for university. So naturally, cost is important, as I don't have a lot. Secondly, I use apple devices such as iPhones and iPads, and used to have a MacBook, so from that side a Mac is nice because it links to all my accounts and helps me keep my files etc. Organised. I also enjoy making music and films; I use iMovie a lot for short films, and am looking into using garage band for helping me out together some music. Again, this suggests Apple. However, I've recently learnt of a way to... ahem, "access" adobe software, and if this is a method that still works then that could eliminate this advantage of Apple! Despite this, I'm aware that microsoft is normally a cheaper option, and much more versatile with its systems and compatibility. If anyone could at least help me decide which system to pick between I would be so very grateful! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2019 01:09 PM PDT Hello,I am looking for a new laptop to connect two additional monitors. From my understanding i need a laptop that has a USB C port and a hdmi port to connect the monitors, first one with hdmi and the second with USB C or hdmi using a hub or dongle. I have some questions: 1.Is an USB C gen 1 or 2 enough? Or do i need a thunderbold 3 ? 2.I'm not much of a gamer so is a dedicated gpu necessary? I mainly use the laptop for browsing, movies, programming, matlab, office mostly college stuff. Here are two laptops that i think are good for my needs (Links are from Romania): Main differences are that the Dell laptop has a dedicated gpu(Radeon 530) and USB C gen 1,and the Lenovo laptop has igpu and USB C gen 2. If you know a better option,my budget is around $850. Necessary specs are: -14 inch display 1080p -2 ram slots -8th gen cpu Thanks [link] [comments]
Thoughts on New Asus Zephyrus and Scar laptops? Posted: 01 May 2019 11:58 AM PDT So, Asus recently announced their line up for Zephyrus and Scar series laptops. Just wondering which one out of them will be a better buy as a content creation laptop ? If price was not a constraint, the Scar III that comes with an Intel i9 CPU seems a better choice but I don't like the design aesthetics and some features gimmicky. The new Zephyrus S on the other hand features the i7-9750H but is fairly light and quite slim. What do you all think would be a better choice out of the two? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2019 11:52 AM PDT I've been looking for a new laptop lately. I'm satisfied with my pc back at home but I'd love to bring it to school too. I'm looking for a laptop capable of doing school stuff, light renders, and a bit of gaming here and there. So I've set my eyes on a few $600 - $700ish laptops. I'm thinking of getting either -Lenovo Ideapad 330-15IKB (I5-8250U with Radeon 530 2gb) Ps. This model has a fingerprint sensor which is nice. -Acer Aspire (Ryzen 5 2500U with Vega 8 or I5-8250U with MX130) Ps. A bit thick I've heard, and it isn't a laptop with cool palms. -Or do you have any suggestions for any laptops that's in that price range? [link] [comments]
Console player looking to buy a laptop Posted: 01 May 2019 11:45 AM PDT So i want to play some games on pc with my friends m and a laptop is a accessible option for me as i live in a student flat and it will help me in my studies, research etc. I found this one soo can a guy that really knows about these stuff to tell me real facts about it and if i should get it https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-omen-15-6-intel-core-i7-gtx-1060-gaming-laptop-1-tb-hdd-128-gb-ssd-10182279-pdt.html [link] [comments]
When will memory chip prices go back down? Posted: 01 May 2019 11:15 AM PDT Right now memory chip prices are sky high which is why laptops are more expensive than usual. I know it's happened in the past before but not about typical time frames when the price spike breaks and comes back down again. Anyone have information on how this works? [link] [comments]
Laptop/notebook/tablet suggestion Posted: 01 May 2019 11:00 AM PDT Trying to get my old man a laptop/notebook/tablet since the one I bought him few years back is coming to an end of its life. He doesn't do any high power stuff just your normal emails, youtube, netflix, casual office documents etc. I was looking at the Surface Laptop due to its light weight/portability, basicness, and ease of using (no learning curve). My budget to buy him something is between $400-$700. Any suggestions would be greately appreciated. [link] [comments]
Is a G sync panel for a laptop worth it? Posted: 01 May 2019 10:56 AM PDT Looking to buy a laptop around 2200 AUD and I'm so set on the Asus GL504GV-ES020T Because there's one for 2077 bucks. It has EVERYTHING I want, i7 8750H, gtx 1070 (rtx 2060s are fine too), ssd and hdd, 144Hz but no G Sync! My desktop uses g sync and I'm not sure how much of a difference it'll be on the laptop. Seeing as how I'll probably get less than 120fps on some games, maybe some close to 80, shouldn't g sync be a pretty big priority? I've looked for hours and the perfect laptop seems like the asus zephyrus M as that has basically everything up there plus G Sync but it starts at 2700. Anyone have experience? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2019 10:22 AM PDT I really don't know which laptop to get, the next Dell XPS 15" or the LG Gram 17". The LG Gram has a "weaker" cpu however, with a better turbo. But I'm not sure how heat will affect things for me. My typical usage hovers between 25% and 50% on my 8750h laptop. Would this overtax an ultrabook cpu like the 8565u causing it to get too hot and degrade performance a lot? Or would it be able to keep up with my workflow (basing it on the CPU usage as I mentioned earlier) All cores are pretty much evenly used on the hexacore 8750h, however I'm sure my workload would be fine on a normal quad core i7 cpu - but I've never used an ultrabook CPU before so it really is hard for me to understand what to buy. I would prefer the gram because of the larger screen. I also would upgrade the RAM on it (I heard it can go up to 40GB - however, 24GB would be fine for me.. 16 isn't, I have 16 on my notebook currently and definitely could do with more) So would anyone know really if a const 25%-50% of an 8750h's load is plenty fine for an 8565u? or are these intel ultraportable cpus really meant to burst quickly and then go back down to near idle? The TDP difference is huge between these CPUs. [link] [comments]
Laptop>Desktop Conversion: Can a laptop Mobo support an Alpine Passive Cooler? Posted: 01 May 2019 10:20 AM PDT Please let me know if this build is possible with the right mods. I would like to build a very low power, fanless desktop with a custom (open) case by using a laptop CPU and mobo. This would involve most likely an air cooler or passive cooler unit like the Alpine one currently on sale. I would drill new holes into either the board or the cooler itself to get it to mount. So Far I can foresee two problems:
2) The mobo might be too thin for the cooler and will snap when the thing is tilted vertically. Only 1) may not be an issue because I intend to use a 15W CPU and some guy in the below video already did something like this with success. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-AAqLKh8TM Please let me see your thoughts. Need help on Lenovo Ideapad 100s-11iby Posted: 01 May 2019 10:02 AM PDT My notebook has been acting up lately. Pressing the backspace keys or any keys beside it turns off the back light of the screen. Then the Enter key stopped working even if pressed hard. Such inconveniences are still prevalent even after system reset. I'm broke rn so I'm looking for some DIY advice. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Looking for a budget laptop that will cope well with both games and work. Posted: 30 Apr 2019 11:18 PM PDT I've had a custom-built tower for the best part of two years now and love it. However, I'll be off to uni in september/october (I'm UK btw) and, as it's not exactly portable, i'm considering buying a perhaps less powerful laptop that should handle games while still being good for work. (I'll be doing Computer Science at uni) My parents said they would contribute the price they paid for my brother's laptop, which IIRC was around £400 or so. I currently have close to £200. My current PC's specs are an i5 6500, GTX 1060 6GB, 12GB RAM, and a 1TB hard drive. I mainly use it for games - I've recently been playing some of my old wii games in an enhanced form on Dolphin for instance, and have games on steam ranging from light to more demanding (the most demanding being probably Rise of the Tomb Raider but I've barely played it. Among my most played demanding games are fallout 4 and metal gear solid v. Edit: I should also mention that I may try and get the Halo MCC when it comes out). What sort of laptop should I be looking for? I've looked at the Asus TUF FX505DY online, and while I know it definitely has a worse GPU, bear in mind i'm not planning for it to be a replacement for my PC. (Edit: specifically this one) Edit 2: How do you find laptopsdirect.co.uk to be? They sell "refurbished" laptops, and I found this for about £100 more. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2019 03:01 AM PDT Hey people, i dunno if this is the place i should post this but if u know anything please tell me. So I own a toshiba p50-c laptop(the one with the i7 5500u and the gtx 950m) and i dunno if its burned to a crisp or not. So, yesterday I wanted to change my thermal paste and i succeded. The problem is that when i put the fan back the power button ribbon got caught under it. When i tried to lift it up like usual it popped out the socket. At this point i thought it was ripped out but I then realized it wasnt. I didnt manage to secure it back in so i just put it there and reassembled my laptop to try a boot. The button didnt work and so i decided to put one end of the ribbon the other way🤦♂️. When i plugged in the battery there was a bit of white smoke and i quickly unplugged it and checked what it was. Apparently the motherboard looked fine but the ribbon was mostly burned(the burn was most intensive on the last pin/cable). Now im stuck without a power button ribbon(so i cant test boot) and if i plug in the charger the led lights up and you can kinda hear the mobo. So what do you guys think and if anyone knows what the pins that I need to short for startup are, please tell me. Thanks for reading and i hope for help ig. UPDATE: I just sticked the burnt cable piecee together with a piece of paper-tape and it mostly works(the led doesnt but the button does)! Im still gonna order a new one but this is a nice replacement till then [link] [comments]
