Should I report this to Google?

Should I report this to Google?

Every few months, my app climbs up within "Top Free Simulation". When it gets around #15 in "top free simulation", it crashes down to #500+ overnight, every time. Note: my app does not enter the "trending" page. Once the crashes happen, the other apps on "Top Free Simulation" are unaffected. The only change is my app disappearing from the chart. I suspect my app is being attacked (somehow?) by a company near the top of "top free simulation". I've been subject to Admob Attacks at other times in the past, where billions of ad-requests are suddenly sent from my apps, and my admob account gets suspended. Should I report this?

Android Studio Actions shortcut no longer working

After updating to the latest Android Studio version, whenever I press shft+cmd+a to access the Actions menu, I get this terminal window that I've never seen.

I checked my AS shortcuts and keybindings and everything seems right.

    Anyone have a clue?

How to properly crop a bitmap to set as wallpaper?

    Posted: 01 May 2019 09:42 AM PDT

I am developing a wallpaper app and my wallpaper set works, but its zoomed on some devices and it's not centered.

I've searched for a solution allot but can't find anything useful ways to do this. There are lots of different codes for cropping to the right size etc. but none of them work properly or at all!

Any ideas on how I can make this work properly? I just want the wallpaper to be centered and not zoomed.

I currently just simply use "myWallpaperManager.setBitmap(resource);"

Do you come across any tutorial with concrete code example, on how to achieve simple use case for Android Q: Scoped Storage?

    Posted: 01 May 2019 12:56 PM PDT

There are a lot of discussion around scoped storage.

But, sadly, I can hardly find any good tutorial regarding Android Q: Scoped Storage. For instance, I wish to copy some image files from Application.instance().getExternalFilesDir(null) + "/a.png" to Shared collections Downloads. But, we can hardly get a concrete code example, on how to achieve so?

I write my simple use case (File copy) at https://stackoverflow.com/questions/55941836/how-to-perform-multiple-files-copy-to-shared-collections-downloads-for-android

If you ever come across a good tutorial, please kindly share it here. Would be very much appreciate :)

The potential good tutorial, might be produced by CommonWare - https://commonsware.com/blog/2019/03/26/death-external-storage-can-haz-file.html But, I still don't see any concrete code example in his blog. Hope he will produce some concrete code example, to tackle common and simple use case :)

Strangely, even Google keep evangelist Android Q: Scoped Storage, they don't seem to bother produce a concrete code example for such common use case.

(Rx Java) Why are flowables always used for database transactions?

I figured using a single would be simple enough but every example I see uses a flowable and I'm curious as to why?

PSA: constraintlayout:2.0.0-alpha5 is out but you can't preview any layouts

    Posted: 01 May 2019 11:16 AM PDT

I updated to constraintlayout:2.0.0-alpha5 and all layouts using Constraint Layout under AS 3.4 are broken. Switched back to alpha4 and I only have issues with a layout that has a Floating Action Button when using material:1.1.0-alpha05.

    I get the following:

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout$LayoutParams$Table

Trying to reach the next level in Android dev

    Posted: 01 May 2019 03:28 AM PDT

I'm currently finishing up my Master's in Computer Science whilst interning as an Android Developer (for a bit more than a year now). Up until now, I have a pretty good understanding of the following:

    1. Activity & Fragment lifecycle
    2. Explicit and implicit intents
    3. Http Request Handling (using Retrofit and Gson parsing)
    4. MVP pattern
    5. Room
    6. Kotlin fundamentals
    7. Firebase integration

Recently, I went to the Android Makers conference in Paris and I realized that I still have so much to learn. The main points I enjoyed were the MVI pattern, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Multiplatform Libraries and many more.

However, when I try to learn something new (such as Coroutines), most articles require knowledge which I have not attained (Dependency injections, ViewModels, DataBinding, ect)

My question is: where do I go from here? What should I learn next? I am a big fan of Udacity's Android courses, as they really helped me get into Android development at first but they are pretty limited as I feel that I have already somewhat learned the topics they cover. Is there an equivalent but for more advanced topics, such as Dependency Injection?

    Top Android developer books (Java)?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2019 10:36 PM PDT

I've been writing Java in school for about four months and I am pretty comfortable with it. Wrote a few small apps testing Android Studio tonight and it's very exciting. Can anyone give some recom opmendation for Android API books?
