I have an Actiontec MI424WR Modem I need to put into Bridge Mode.

Frontier tech support says that they don't support it and won't tell me how to do it. HOWEVER, if I discover how to do it they can't stop me.

Anyone have any experience with this modem?

Question on DOCSIS channels on Xfinity

    Posted: 12 May 2019 12:25 PM PDT

Kind of bored today so decided to check out some details with my networking.

I've got DOCSIS 3.0 Arris modem. I'm paying for 60 Mbps Internet from Xfinity, though I only ever see 30-40 regardless of which Speedtest site I'm using or whether I'm torrenting. Luckily I don't really generate enough traffic to need that extra speed, but it'd be nice to have. Googling DOCSIS 3.0 shows that each channel should get 38 Mbps or so, which is right in line with my normal download throughout.

I connected my laptop directly to my modem (and power cycled the modem) and can see 16 downstream bonded channels down, 4 bonded upstream channels. The signal-noise ratio on 13/16 of the downstream channels is in the 35-40 dB, one is sitting at 31.7, and the other two are 0. Power is at -7.0 to -7.5 dBmV for most channels. The channel at 31.7 SNR also has high (in the millions) numbers in columns labeled "corrected" and "uncorrectables." All other channels have 0 in those columns.

I live in an apartment building from the 1950s so the networking situation was a complete afterthought, there's just a cabinet on the wall outside with aux cables (like for a tv) kind of spilling out. Could just be a bunch of splitters in there for all I know.

    So my questions here are:

Is Xfinity only giving me one channel even though I'm paying for about 1.5 channels worth of throughput? Or is the bottleneck likely in their router rather than between it and me?

Is something wrong with just that one channel that the signal to noise ratio is lower than the others?

Acer Nitro 5 Internal HDD problem

    Posted: 12 May 2019 12:04 PM PDT

I have this laptop that my father bought from Singapore its an Acer Nitro 5 my father used the laptop for 2 months and brought it home to me to Philippines as a Late Christmas and Birthday present and after a month I have this problem where my internal drive keeps disconnecting not software disconnects the drive but it seems to be the hardware disconnects my drive.

since Acer nitro 5 has an upgradable Internal drive slot and also Ram. and so I check every time it disconnects. and from what I checked the drive overheats before it disconnects. so I checked the other places because since I'm living in Philippines and my father came from Singapore. it is possible that the summer heat of Philippines might be one of the factors why my system and my hard drive overheats so I checked the bottom of the panel and its pretty cool not warm nor hot and so I checked it in night time where it doesn't have some heat. and still the same. and now the problem became worse. it doesn't work anymore after sending some files into it.

I am planning to get my hard drive tested by grabbing it and try to open it in another Computer just to try if my laptop is the problem or the hard drive.

I'm seeing if someone can give me an answer to what's happening to my laptop or if I would bring it to Singapore to try to get into the laptop's warranty. it's just that it's been only 3 months old and it already has this problem I just want to get what my money's worth.

Games not working after setting up Minecraft Server

    Posted: 11 May 2019 08:41 PM PDT

So lately I have been playing Minecraft (Minecraft survival is honestly fun to play with friends) on a server I host with Aternos.org cuz why not? but it always takes to long start up the server so I download the world folder and set up the server locally and configured the port-forwarding etc... but after doing that, no online games would load, so no other Minecraft servers work, Apex doesn't work, Overwatch doesn't work, Realm Royale doesn't work.

I ran the trouble shooter and got this error message "your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding", I looked it tried checking the settings to automatically get the DNS and ip, didn't work. Ran some CMD commands, didn't work either, reinstalled drivers and that also didn't work, so I'm kinda lost over here. Also, Chrome still works perfectly, and all the settings from my router admin tool have been undone so yeah there's that
