I didn’t realize how many spam texts/calls google blocks automatic until I switched to iPhone

    Posted: 13 May 2019 05:48 AM PDT

I have been an android user since my first Samsung carrier phone from boost mobile. And I always got spam calls and texts until my later phones where I had googles phone app and messages app. I'd always see spam calls in my "recents" but my phone never rang for them. I'd get a few spam texts, but most of them got blocked automatically, and the ones that didn't I could "report" right from in the app. But I'm currently typing this from my iPhone, which I got two days ago, and I've already gotten three spam texts and two spam calls, which I'm so not used to after google blocking everything automatically for so long. I'd get that many calls/texts in maybe a month. It's the little things that really make android better to me, little things that iPhone users don't even know they're missing.

It's cool that Google Keep is getting a dark mode, but what about text formatting?

    Posted: 13 May 2019 06:26 AM PDT

One would think that a notes app by Google, out of all companies, would have basic text formatting features like italics, bold, and what have you, but that's unfortunately not the case. Hopefully this demand gets enough attention by people to warrant a look into the matter by the devs.

    Best Android/Google blogs or sites?

    Posted: 13 May 2019 05:10 AM PDT

Outside of the normal AP, XDA, DroidLife and 9to5 Google where are some great places for good insight and commentary on Android and the Google ecosystem ?

I guess I'm looking for the Daring Fireball type of sites. Well written and not just a shill for the latest Amazon affiliate link or coding class bundles. Every 4th post.

    Thanks!

adb backup/restore have been deprecated in Android 10/Q

    Posted: 13 May 2019 02:48 AM PDT

    Proof

Words can't describe how enraged I am. Now if an app doesn't support Android's backup APIs, you cannot backup/restore it in Android 10 unless your device is rooted.
