Redmi 3s prime power and volume down button not working

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:51 PM PDT

Using volume up button for waking up screen. Checked internet and some people said that factory reset/reboot to recovery mode did the job for them. Don't want to risk turning off the phone only to never turn it on again, since this is the only device i have right now and can't afford to but a new one. Has anyone here had the same problem, if yes how'd you solve it? Please advise a safe solution where chances to bricking my phone are least as possible. Also i cant find reboot to recovery mode in MIUI 10. Please help.

    Mi Mix 2s Textra question

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:55 PM PDT

A little background. When people are group texting me from iphones my Mix 2 would not let me reply to the group text correctly. It would split it up into two separate text. So that required me to find a different texting app.

Today I downloaded the Textra app. Which has been working perfectly. One issue though, I am not able to get the sound to work for when I receive a text. I have gone thru all the settings and everything seems to be set up correctly. I do get a sound notification when I send a text.

Anyone ever heard of this issue or now of a better messaging app?

    Thanks

PSA: MIUI Notes app trims text without warning

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:33 PM PDT

TL;DR: The Notes App seemly has a limit around 16,300 characters. If you share text that exceeds this value, it just trims it and doesn't warn you.

    The story:

These days I shared a few texts to the stock Xiaomi's Notes app, through the "Share" menu. All seemed well. No warnings, and all the texts were there as expected, as new notes.

However, opening them (and scrolling a lot until the end), I realized that two ended abruptly. They were trimmed around 16,300 characters (which is close to 214 ).

Thankfully I had a backup, otherwise I'd have lost a big chunk of both.

To know who is guilty, I proceeded to share again the same text from the same application but to other app instead of Notes. And the result was no problem at all - the text was fully shared. So that's a issue specific to Notes, which probably has a character limitation, and doesn't warn you about that.

Just a friendly warning if you happen to use that app.

    Edit: The versions

    • Notes 1.5.2

    • MIUI Global 10.3.1.0

    • Android 9

Should I buy the Mi Max 3 or wait for Mi Max 4?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 03:05 PM PDT

I'm currently thinking about replacing my Redmi Note 5 with another smartphone (a part of my LCD Display is broken) and found the Mi Max 3. Now apparently a new Mi Max phone is going to come out this summer so should I wait for it or should I buy the MM3? In my country the MM3 4/64 costs converted and with tax about $ 264,89.

Can I use Android P gestures on MIUI?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 02:13 PM PDT

I've got a Redmi Note 5 (Pro) with Android P and MIUI Global Beta.

I cannot find the basic Android gestures introduced with the Pie.

Is there a way to use them?

    Mi A1 camera framerate issues

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:21 PM PDT

Here's an odd one. The Mi A1 is supposed to record video at 4K 30fps, 1080p 60fps, or 720p 120fps. However, my A1 running fully stock and unrooted Pie (no GCam or anything) is not doing that - it appears to be recording 4K at 12fps and 1080p at 120fps, confirmed by running the video files through several players as well as ffmpeg. While I'm pretty sure the 1080p recordings are not in fact 120fps, the 4K recordings do feel like they have a very low framerate.

Here's what MPC-HC tells me about a 4K recording made on Pie:

    Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 3840x2160 12fps 41989kbps [V: VideoHandle [eng] (h264 high L5.1, yuv420p, 3840x2160, 41989 kb/s)] Audio: AAC 48000Hz stereo 96kbps [A: SoundHandle [eng] (aac lc, 48000 Hz, stereo, 96 kb/s)]

...and an older recording with the proper 30fps, made last year on either Nougat or Oreo:

    Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 3840x2160 30fps 41843kbps [V: VideoHandle [eng] (h264 baseline L5.1, yuv420p, 3840x2160, 41843 kb/s)] Audio: AAC 48000Hz stereo 95kbps [A: SoundHandle [eng] (aac lc, 48000 Hz, stereo, 95 kb/s)]

Can anyone with an A1 confirm this weird behavior?

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and a Fitbit Versa

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:03 PM PDT

Hey there, I have a Redmi Note 6 Pro, have had it for a few months and love it so far. Today I bought a Fitbit Versa, and everything works except for notifications. I have checked the Fitbit site and it says the Fitbit is not compatible with my phone. Is there anyway other than the Fitbit app to actually get my notifications or someway to go around this to get them? I hope this is the correct place to ask this.

Thinking about getting the Xiaomi MI 9

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 03:05 PM PDT

    Hi,

I'm thinking about buying the Xiaomi MI 9. The phone looks great judging by all of the reviews. The only thing that has me worried is MIUI. Most reviews are saying its the weakest aspect of the phone. How bad is it really? How much bloatware does it have? How much ads?

I would appriciate any information :)

I read that the 1050 GTX is powerful but has overheating problems? Is now an undervolt possible? And are there overheating problems when using it foe editing in Davinci Resolve or premier pro?

150 mx is less powerful but it doe not overheat. For the 250 mx I did not see any reviews .

Fist I wanted to get the 1050 GTX Version, now I a not sure

Would the Mi A1 or the Redmi Note 5 Pro be a decent side/upgrade from a Mi5?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 06:35 PM PDT

So there is this local store that imports Xioami here, and once they have oldish, phones that won't sell they throw in some nice deals, and my Mi 5 has been getting old, no lock button and cracked glass on back.

My use is mostly surfing and enjoy decent camera but never go around Gcam, so might know that the quality hasn't been good either.

Should I upgrade from the Redmi note 5 to the Mi 9 se?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 01:41 PM PDT

So its been a year since I got the note 5, and let me tell you it's a pretty good phone, but there is a huge negative that kinda had me searching for a new phone, and thats its weight. It feels too heavy in my hands

So I started looking for a new phone, and I found Samsung galaxy a40, but the weak specs and the absence of gorilla glass were disappointing,,,then I found the mi 9 SE, it seems to have solid specs, a very premium feel and its quite lighter as well

The other thing that I believe is significant is the amoled screen, ever since I saw one on a phone I ve been kinda envious and wanting one for myself

Do you guys think the phone is worth the 350 euros it costs here? any specific positives or negatives that I should note?

If its truly worth it I dont mind this price, since I know now that a good phone is something worth having

    Thanks in advance

Get YouTube Vanced to default to "zoomed to fill" on a Mi Mix 2s?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 12:52 PM PDT

    Hi there

As above I love the screen on my phone but I wish YouTube or YouTube Vanced would default to fill the screen when I rotate the phone rather then black bars left and right.

    Thanks in advance.

Best screen protector for mix 2s?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:19 AM PDT

To anybody with this phone, what screen protector is the better one? I don't like nillkin because they're too weak for my taste and tend to break easily. I had some random brand but it was a fingerprint magnet so the phone looked dirty all the time.

    App notification sounds on Mi9

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 03:50 PM PDT

    Hi,

Just got myself a Mi9 its got the 10.2.6.0 Global firmware on it. This issue i am having is the app notification sounds for specific apps, it seems like they are all just using the default notification sound and i cant find where to change it.

For example, on my old Mi6, when my Ring Doorbell would detect motion, the app notification would play a windchime sound, and when someone pressed the doorbell, the app notification would be a doorbell sound.
But on the mi9 all im getting is whatever is picked in the default notification sound in the settings of Miui.

Is this a bug or is there a setting i can change?

    ROOT Redmi Note 5 AI

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 03:31 PM PDT

I've been looking for options to root my device (mainly want to have some ad blockers like Adaway). I'm actually happy with MIUI and debloated the stock ROM, so keeping it would be fine, but considering rooting the device I know I need a custom recovery and I also want to be able to access OTAs to update.
I think stock MIUI will restore recovery on each update, so I'm not sure if it would be better to use xiaomi.eu instead, but it looks less of a "stable" version and with a shorter lifespan compared to real Xiaomi roms.
My other option would be to install Orange Fox, which I'm not sure will let me get OTAs from stock ROM WITHOUT the need of reinstalling a custom recovery to re-root the device after each update.

Is that so? Any recommendations on the ROM or combination I should have? I'd like to set something up that doesn't require much maintenance and that is stable enough.

    Thanks!

Brand new Xiaomi m365 Not charging. Charger flashing red and green

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 11:45 AM PDT

    Hi,

I bought a new Xiaomi m365 and it was a EU version that is imported into Canada. I set it up and it turns on and pairs with the app, but I noticed that when I plug it in to charge, it doesn't actually charge the scooter and the charger is blinking red and green several times.

Does anyone have any idea why it's doing that? Do I have a bad charger?

    Mi Roaming enabled itself?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 06:41 AM PDT

I'm traveling and got a message from my phone carrier saying that I can use WhatsApp for free, even in other countries.

I enabled Data Roaming, but I specified for WhatsApp only in the list of permitted apps. The next day I get a notification from other messaging app, and I think I got connected to a free WiFi, but nope: for some reason it was using 4g data.

I check the list of permitted apps and got two more added without my permission: Mi Roaming and another one which I don't remember the name exactly, but it was also from Xiaomi (Mi Fit or Mi Sync, maybe). I immediately disabled those, but still got another notification from the other messaging app... So I disabled roaming completely. This got me a bit confused: I don't know if this app just bypassed the permissions I set or it was Mi Roaming the one that, somehow, gave it permissions.

What's going on with that? How can apps just give permissions to themselves to use data that at the end of the day will end up costing some money?

Thanks and sorry for the rant.

[tip] Weather widget on lock screen

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 02:16 AM PDT

This may come out as a noob post or a tip for someone who would want some weather info on his lock screen for a quick glance. Take it as you will :) So I was looking for a nice weather app and saw a post about an app called Weather M8 ( link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pro.burgerz.miweather8 ) It's hugely customizable and suits perfectly to miui looks. What I was surprised was it can show current weather conditions in your notification tray and on lock screen (settings - notifications -> show notification; show current weather conditions in notification area). Hope it helps somebody :)

Is there any way to see all contacts who have Mi Message?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 06:03 AM PDT

I get that in order to see blue message icon on phone number, the Contacts or Messaging app must check person availability for few seconds. As far as I understand phone doesn't store this info at all, it checks every time I open messages or contact info.

So this is impossible, or I just don't fully understand?
