Android to Apple: The Greatest Remorse of my Time Posted: 29 Apr 2019 06:22 AM PDT Hello, /r/android I want to share with you my experience. The experience of switching from Android to Apple, and the true sorrow that I have felt since making the decision. This is a cautionary tale of ignorance, and where you can be lead to by not doing your research. I would urge any of you that are looking to purchase ANYTHING that you do the proper research prior to dishing out the dough. With that being said, let's get onto the story: Around October of 2015, I got my very first smartphone. I was around 22 at the time, and had always used cheap PoS phones because I was cheap myself. I decided it was time to leave these garbage phones behind, however. I got a Galaxy S6 and was amazed by all the features it had. I was hooked. Long story short, I was a loyal Android customer all the way until March of this year. I decided to trade in my S9+ for an Iphone 10XS Max. The clerk at the sprint store said, "Ah, joining the dark side, eh?" I should have heeded his warning. I told him that I was just interested in trying something new; and I was. So I went ahead and made the switch. (I got an Apple Watch with it, because why not?) Having blown almost all of my tax return, I went home with my new device. And oh my good God, the problems started. The absolute biggest middle finger my iPhone first threw me was Apple's quicktime codec doesn't support Webm files. It couldn't render them in discord, 4chan, Reddit, nowhere. Being an avid fan of Webm's, I started searching around and learned of this news. I was taken aback. There were a complicated set of steps I could take to save them, it's not like it was impossible. But not having that convenience was awful. Next, the google search widget. You never really realize what you've lost until it's gone. That google search widget was amazing. I could literally just get straight to a google search there. Now I have to manually open chrome and put in the URL, which adds precious seconds to the whole process. I felt ill. Next, a lack of apps. No good 3rd party music apps, no P2P sharing apps, no 4chan apps, no emulators, nothing. Again, there are work arounds for this but they're very unreliable and inconvenient to go through. No dedicated BACK button. I hold my phone with my right hand and operate it with my thumb usually. This isn't possible with an iPhone, because most apps put the back button on the top left of the screen. I have big gorilla hands, but I have a 10XS Max. This phone is huge and my thumb can't reach it. So now I'm essentially forced to operate the phone with two hands. No fingerprint scanner. I ALWAYS have to punch in my PW. The S9+'s scanner on the back was so perfect. The way I held the phone in my hand, I didn't even have to make a deliberate attempt to unlock the phone. I just held it naturally to where it unlocked just by holding it. It was amazing. There are a great many other smaller problems I have with this cursed device. However, I decided I just needed to get used to it and that I just needed to give it time. What a fool I was. After about a month and a half, I decided I'd had enough. I was going to switch back. I called Sprint and told them I wanted to get an Android phone again. They said that I had missed the 14 day satisfaction guarantee window, and that I would have to pay a $450 cancellation fee in order to switch back. That or add another phone onto my plan which I was NOT doing. I called AT&T and Verizon, and they refused to pay my ETF. I guess they stopped doing that. So here I am, with a garbage phone and a pile of regret. A giant $450 paywall sits between me and another Android phone. Do you guys think I should pay it off and switch back now, or stick it out? I honestly hate this phone. Apple treats the user like a user. Android treats the user like an admin. This phone is disgusting. TL;DR: I bought an iPhone 10XS Max and deeply regret it because it lacks a lot ton of features. Now I'm wondering what I should do. Edit: Didn't think I'd have to say this, but this was a fuck up on my part and I 100% acknowledge that. So before you type your, "You brought this on yourself comment," I've already acknowledged this as a fact. Edit 2: It is done. I will no longer be an iPhone user by the end of this week. Thank you to those who convinced me to drop this flaming turd. I just got a bonus at work, so that'll be my excuse for paying this ridiculous cancellation fee, I guess. [link] [comments] |
How to backup my S9+ before screen is replaced Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:15 PM PDT I dropped my phone and broke the screen, so I'll be going to Geek Squad tomorrow to have it replaced. They told me to backup my phone, but I'm not sure if that means to my SD card or to my laptop or to my Google account. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:39 PM PDT Hello all. I have a Google pixel 2 and up until the start of this month everything has been fine. But recently my downloaded photos seem to be disappearing. Most importantly, my memes. I download memes off Reddit by holding down on the image and selecting download image. It works, the meme is in my download folder, and everything is fine. Except, a day or two later, when I go to send it to a friend it is gone. Photos I get from text messages are untouched. Neither are photos from the camera. Now that I think about it, my memes from March are gone too so I guess this has been a problem longer than I thought. Please help me, countless good memes have been lost and I will never refind them. Thanks all. [link] [comments] |
Upgrading from Oneplus 1 to Oneplus 5T, couple questions Posted: 29 Apr 2019 10:09 PM PDT The OpO was my first smart phone, got it when the Op2 came out for really cheap, I love the phone to death. It has really started to fail on me in the past year with a myriad of issues so I finally upgraded and switched providers as well. Since this thing is as bright as the sun and as long as a aircraft carrier, I've been struggling trying to get this to look and feel exactly as my OpO. I used Nova launcher, I reinstalled that here and after some tinkering I got it mostly to look the same. I can't place icons wherever the hell I want as I'm locked into the dumb grid(subgrid isn't good enough) so I left it as is.

Posted: 29 Apr 2019 09:16 PM PDT Apparently my phone unlocked its screen in my pocket (not sure how, as i can unlock using pass, face recognition and finger print) while im walking around and my phone went crazy, due to the screen is in contact with my thigh, it has voice recording, torchlight and etc stuff on while in my pocket, and then i noticed the SD card was encrypted also without me knowing the password. So my question now is that are there any ways for me to decrypt the SD card without losing my datas in it? as i have alot of important documents and pictures i use for work in it [link] [comments] |
Chrome removed tap & pull to show all tabs? Posted: 29 Apr 2019 01:32 PM PDT It seems like the newest update of chrome eliminated the feature where you tap on the url bar and while still holding, drag downwards. Previously, this displayed a bunch of cards showing your open tabs, which you could pull through with previews of each page. Now doing it gives you a text-only list of the open tabs sorted from oldest to newest, which forces you to scroll all the way back to your currently open page if you're searching for recently opened tabs. Anyone know how to restore the previous functionality? Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:54 PM PDT I've done lots of searching, trying methods etc etc etc. I have a XT907 on the latest software patch but have created a firmware flashable via RSD Lite to downgrade the system and recovery .img but haven't cracked boot.img I'm rooted with supersu and for the love of God can not figure out how to get the bootloader unlocked! Maybe I'm using motopocalpyse wrong or something idk. Willing to provide tons more details if someone is willing to help me out. I'm far from a dummy yet nowhere near a top notch developer. I have another moto device in which I've unlocked the bootloader and have custom recovery so I do have some knowledge about it. [link] [comments] |

Messenger normal notification and chat head notification HELP Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:14 PM PDT A few months ago my messenger app started to give me a notification banner at the top as well as having the floating chat head notification too. This is when my phone is unlocked. So if I had chat head floating on the screen I would get the chat head giving the message and a banner on the top. If I am using the chat head to message a person, every time the person messages when I am in the conversation I will also get a banner notification. Very annoying. So, previously to that I would only get the chat head notification that I got a message but I will still get the little notification icon too on the top of the screen. I cannot figure what changed and how to get back to it. Changing the notifications in the settings I can get rid of the banner but it also gets rid of that little icon on the top which was always there and I would like to keep. It is driving me crazy that I cannot find a simple fix for this. Hopefully that was clear [link] [comments] |
Mirroring Android to laptop screen without imstalling anything on laptop? Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:54 PM PDT I have a really old and beat-up laptop that doesn't connect to WiFi so I can't really install any new programs on it. Is there any software I could download on my phone so that I could mirror my phone to my laptop through a USB? [link] [comments] |
What are the best current options for Dual-SIM + microSD? Posted: 29 Apr 2019 03:32 PM PDT I'm looking for a new phone for my brother, which he'll use as a primary device for personal and work life. Thus, the phone needs to have dual SIM capabilities. He uses the camera a lot for work as well, so a good camera is a must-have. Doesn't have to be the best phone camera out there, but it has to be pretty decent. He also likes to store a lot of media on his phone, so we'd likes something with expandable storage. Considering that most dual-SIM and microSD capable phones out there seem to have hybrid trays, my question is: what are the best options for a phone that combines Dual-SIM, dedicated microSD slot and a good camera? Budget is not really a problem up to USD$700 or so. The phone should work in Mexico for LTE, so that's bands 2 and 4. Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
Assisting deceased coworkers family - Samsung S8 Posted: 29 Apr 2019 03:19 PM PDT We recently had one of our coworkers pass, unfortunately he did not pass long his phone passcode to anyone prior to death. The family was hoping to gain access to the device in order to retrieve photos and such for the memories. Our MDM will only allow me to remotely wipe the device, so that is no help. Our company does have proof of purchase for the device (Samsung S8) however when calling Samsung they were not willing to offer any assistance other than wiping the device. Are there any options for the family or thru our company in order to attempt to have to passcode removed and retain the files on the phone? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 03:10 PM PDT Hello everyone. This is my first time posting here so I hope I'm doing this right. Yesterday I upgraded from Resurrection Remix 6 to 7 on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. After the upgrade I started experiencing a lot of static noise during audio playback with my IEM's and I can't find the cause of it. I disabled the AudioFX app completely first at first, this didn't solve the issue. After that I tried installing Viper4Android to see if a different DSP would help solving the issue, it didn't. However since I got gain control now I could noticed that when I lowered the gain the volume did lower however the static didn't. This also holds true for actually changing the volume on Android itself. This leads me to believe the problem might lie with the combo jack. The IEMs I'm using don't have pins for audio control or a mic in line. The problem could be the mic in or audio control line putting static on the line. Another possibility is that the issue lies somewhere else completely and that I haven't found it yet. However, whichever it is the problems didn't occur on previous Android versions which means there is an actual software problem and that it can be fixed. Has anyone here had this issue before and found a fix? Things I could try would be checking if I can disable the mic in and audio control pins of the jack but I don't know how to do this. As to other solutions, I don't have a clue to where the issue could be. Unfortunately my IEMs have an incredibly high gain so listening at volumes higher then 1 is no option for me unless I want hearing damage. Even if someone could point me to changes made in the audio stack with Android 9 it could be very helpful in finding the change that lead to this issue. [link] [comments] |
Where can one find working arm64-v8a chrome apk Posted: 29 Apr 2019 05:44 PM PDT I have already tried apk mirror and apk pure, and also google searched for it. However all the links that I have found have had either the 32 bit version and that one won't work on my phone, or if it is the 64bit one then it ends up being few kb in size and off course that won't work. All i wanted to try was that dark theme, but lately it seems like play store has put me in some kind of update limbo. Because every app seems to take at least a month or something until my play store even sees the update. I currently have at least one other app that i know for sure that has launched their redesign over a month and half ago, but my phone still sees no update for them. Other apps however still update just fine, so i do not think that the issue is within the play store app. it seems like i have been pushed back to some kind of slow update plan, and i have no way of getting back to the current updates. One might think that getting timely updates on one's browser would be priority, but apparently Google doesn't think so. [link] [comments] |
What is this circle thing called and how do I get rid of it? Galaxy S9 Posted: 29 Apr 2019 05:44 PM PDT I recently got this new phone and I can't seem to find what this thing is called and it's pretty annoying. Edit: got it. [link] [comments] |
Can Android remember different audio-in jacks? Posted: 29 Apr 2019 01:41 PM PDT Recently switched from iOS to a Note 8 - pleased in general but one thing I find lacking is audio functionality. I had to work around the high audio level warning, but haven't yet cracked the following. I used to only rarely need to adjust audio levels, as my iPhone remembered the last setting for each of the different ways I listen (mostly to music). this allowed me to listen at a certain level in earbuds, at maximum in my car aux cord, and in between for my bluetooth shower speaker. It seems android defaults to something like 2/3 max volume, just before the warning popup, for all audio-ins. I've troubleshot to an extent, I've made presets for bluetooth vs. audio jack, but is there a way to set my earbud volume default at, say, 70% and my car aux to max? Thanks in advance. I have a question. Should I update my phone to Oreo is it worth it. Posted: 29 Apr 2019 04:33 PM PDT It's going to take up about 3 GB of my storage (which I see as a lot) so what are the new features that I am going to get?. Are they good enough. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 03:25 PM PDT I have a 10 inch Leevo tablet that I have lost the cord and plug to. My Samsung plug and cord will fit in it, but it doesn't charge it well. It may take a couple of days to charge it and when you use it the charge will not keep up even when it plug in. Does any one know a solution to this or what plug and cord will work [link] [comments] |

Ads on the bottom of every app Posted: 29 Apr 2019 12:09 PM PDT My wife's Galaxy S7 just started showing ads on the bottom of most apps randomly. Not all the time, having trouble figuring out what the offender is. Is there a recommended app that can help me figure out what this is. I tried checking running services and I see 2 things running that don't show a name or icon. I tried googling the package name but couldn't find anything, I'll get more info when she's home. Tried a malwarebytes scan but didn't detect anything, is there something better for this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:10 AM PDT Is there any way to change the volume steps? I am on MIUI 10.2. I just got new headphones and with them, even the lowest volume step is too much, so I wonder if there is any way to change the volume of volume steps. Considering everything above second step hurts m ears, there is really not much point to have 15 steps imo, so I wonder if there is any way to change the scale from, say 100 min volume - 200 max volume to 50 min - 200 max. Thanks for help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 11:35 AM PDT Here is my take: Bixby - I think is stupid & slow. Only good thing about it, is you can use it to manage around the phone setting pretty well. Reminders also is a great thing, but only because Google Reminders do not work. Google Assistant - After the recent update, 4 times out of 10, it doesn't react to my "Ok, Google" at all. I retrained the voice, did all - but when it doesnt react and i go into it's settings and turn Voice Match toggle on and off and after say "ok google" again - now it works. So it is a 100% bug. Reminders don't work as i said earlier. They are greyed out. Even Assistant promises to remind me, it never does. Also, a lot of times, it hears me what i ask, but doesn't do anything. Loading "circle" keeps on going on. I am very unhappy. I think AI is pretty far away, LMAO. What do you think? And do you have any fixes? (Besides regular CLEAR CACHE, RESTART PHONE which doesn't work in 99% cases) [link] [comments] |
