Server Contact-Free Windows Update downloads, and where to find them. Posted: 03 Apr 2019 05:48 PM PDT Greetings all. I have been experiencing the windows update error 0x80080005 for a while now. I have tried all the tips, tricks, resets, regedits, service manipulations, ect that can be found online, and it still persists. So, I go to the Microsoft Catalog to download the updates manually. It was my first time doing so(using the Catalog), and expected it to be like any other manual update. Download, double click, installs update. The download is the update. WHY HAVE A DOWNLOADABLE UPDATE THAT ISN'T REALLY "DOWNLOADED", AND STILL HAS TO CONTACT A SERVER THAT I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO REACH (hence me pursuing a DOWNLOADABLE UPDATE)??? *insert cursing here..deep breath... apologies for the french* SO... as referenced in the title, where can a guy find updates that are fully downloadable, and require no journey to the servers of the impregnable Bast Castle? Windows 10 keeps telling me to sign into One Drive Posted: 03 Apr 2019 11:01 AM PDT Every time I start my computer One Drive opens and tells me to sign in. I've never used One Drive. I don't want to use One Drive. I don't need to sign in to One Drive. How do I make it stop asking me to sign into One Drive every time I start my laptop? [link] [comments]
I made a piano themed windows sound scheme Posted: 03 Apr 2019 02:42 AM PDT Once you download the sounds set it up like And run the .reg for it to be added to the sound scheme list or just install manually in which case it doesn't matter which folder you put the sounds in. Uploaded to google drive so you can download individual sound files and listen to them before you download- Also I only tested the .reg file on windows 8.1. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aCNgG70Y_qVuP-CqzPeaqdiwO3zttykQ?usp=sharing EDIT: If using the other .reg file you can also set it up like: Or any other way if you replace the file paths (can be done with notepad++ and other software but in the paths you have to use "\\" instead of "\" i don't know why it needs two) Also i have no idea how the logon / logoff sounds are meant to be set up i couldn't find them in the actual settings so i just added them manually in regedit [link] [comments]
Critical Error Start menu stopped working Posted: 03 Apr 2019 06:48 PM PDT Hello everyone! I have been unable to use my start menu or my pinned apps for at least two months now. Each time I click on the start menu I get a message saying "Critical Error: your start menu isn't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in." I know to restart the Windows Explorer loactaed in the Task Manager. But this is a short temporary fix. I am seeking a permanent fix. I am asking if anyone knows an easy fix for this or how I go about fixing this issue. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Apr 2019 06:32 PM PDT Have been having issues with getting my drivers to install after moving from linux to windows, I've been recommended DDU. Is it safe to use? EDIT : On top of this how can I prevent windows 10 from installing it's own graphics drivers for my 1050, so I can manually install my own. [link] [comments]
How do I reset Color Management to default? Posted: 03 Apr 2019 10:19 AM PDT Hi I calibrated my monitor with Windows calibration tool, but didn't like the results. I want to set it back to the way it was before I ever touch that tool. Things I tried: - Run the tool again while resetting gamma slider at middle and keeping RGB sliders as they're at max. - In Color Management, deleting all profiles that has new date creation, and uncheck "use Windows display calibration". I'm afraid that it not really default now and I'm just getting used to it, so I need a way to make sure it is. Either someone with knowledge on how to factory reset that or a screenshot of untouched settings that would be very helpful. I'm really getting paranoid about it and thinking of reinstalling Windows but I don't want to so please help, I would appreciate it. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Apr 2019 05:08 AM PDT Hi all, I had a previous post about having a 1 one trust Domain A and Domain B We want users in Domain A to login and run services on Domain B. But don't want domain B users to be able to login to Domain A This works with a one way trust, but requires any computer in Domain B to have access to Domain A's Domain controllers. Is there any supported way to proxy authentication via domain B's domain controller to Domain A, for hosts in Domain B? We only want the domain controllers talking to each other, not every host talking to every domain controller. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Why the fuck does windows allow you to change the users' email address without a password. Posted: 03 Apr 2019 02:52 AM PDT Basically my friends thought it'd be funny to try to log into my laptop but since they didn't know my password they wanted to see if they could change it. And they could. One of them changed the linked email adress which allowed them to change my password. Luckily I could still log in with my pin but why does windows allow this. I can kind of understand given people may forget their passwords but it still seems like a huge security risk. Also is there any way to prevent this from happening? [link] [comments]

Red X by Wifi, but still able to use the Internet? Posted: 02 Apr 2019 09:14 PM PDT I'm stumped honestly. Tried the regedit method to no avail. Every other time I use my computer, some pages load and some don't, it's really strange. I reboot and it works fine (sometimes). I even speedtested my internet and it was 60mbps out of 300mbps (I almost never get even wired). [link] [comments]

Dell Precision 5530 - audio jack issues Posted: 03 Apr 2019 03:51 AM PDT Hello people, please advice - audio jack doesn't detect external microphone. We had a technician from Dell on site yesterday, he left without solving the issue. (I don't blame the guy, he replaced every HW related and repeated all the steps I tried before calling them. He tried....) It's not HW related for sure, it worked until early last week, we tried to revert pretty much everything that happened during that period of time. I found its a quite common issue, everyone saying that using native Windows drivers should solve this - no luck. I've tried all kinds of older Realtek drivers - no luck. Normally, there should be a pop-up window appearing when I connect something asking what was connected, that doesn't happen any more. (even tho it's checked in MaxxAudio or whatever the name is) The machine has some SW that's pain to license so I'd rather fix it than full reinstall. Any tips & tricks come to your mind? Thanks......... [link] [comments]
Regedit changes not taking effect Posted: 03 Apr 2019 09:32 AM PDT So i needed to delete some files from regedit. Deleted them, made a sign out sign in, and still not working! Why? Can someone say. [link] [comments]
Which app for local folder sync? Posted: 03 Apr 2019 07:58 AM PDT Hi r/windows I'm trying to figure out local file syncing for up to 6 computers and no server. Are there any programs out there that allow me to set this up relatively easily? The reason I need local sync is because my internet is very limited both in speed and bandwidth. I currently use DropBox but it constantly needs to work with their servers so it slows everything down. I'd like to have all my local computers have good folder synchronization and then once a day I could run a server backup. Wasn't really sure where/how to post this. I guess I ended up here after reading about the built in Windows Sync Center, though that doesn't seem to work for a lot of people. [link] [comments]
Right click>new takes 15 seconds to respond Posted: 03 Apr 2019 07:46 AM PDT When i try to create a new folder anywhere the right click menu freezes when i hover over the "new" button, i can still use other applications that are open. It takes about 15 seconds for the "new" submenu to appear. [link] [comments]
Seriously Guys... Windows 10 on S10? How fitting would that be! Posted: 03 Apr 2019 07:33 AM PDT With the S10's getting UP TO 12gb of ram, and 1tb of storage... I think Samsung are crazy NOT to put a fully fledged Windows 10 OS on to their phone! (In addition to Android) Know Dex? Amazing. So limited compared to a fully fledged Windows 10 OS. Now I know the hardware isn't perfect for Windows 10 - but it would run flawlessly for basic task like web browsing, media playback, and uni work / office work. I would legitimately buy a top of the line S10+ if it had Windows 10 launch on an external display rather than Dex. Now I know that Microsoft would never go for this partnership because I think it would seriously damage their sales of the surface line / portable devices. But with 12gb of ram, 1tb storage, and a decent enough cpu for Win 10, it would work much better than office for Android. Sorry for the rant, and I know this will never happen... But we can dream and dream, right? Maybe someone will find a way... Wow. [link] [comments] |
