| Posted: 29 Apr 2019 10:38 PM PDT I'm looking to get "portable" 4G internet and i was just wondering, if i got pocket wifi that didn't have an ethernet slot and put it right next to my computer, would it drop off in terms of speed much compared to if i got a 4G gateway and connected it with an ethernet cable? The 4G on my phone works perfectly in there though, seems as fast if not better than the internet i used for the same purpose in my last place. Only i would be using it. | Chrome won't work unless edge is open Posted: 30 Apr 2019 03:24 AM PDT Hello i'm currently going crazy over this issue with chrome ` ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT ` I have tried everything, resetting winsh etc re-installed chrome both online and stand-alone Re-installed windows twice, it will work temporarily after re-install and then stop working after restart No proxies, no hosts file inserts, restarted router. The only solution that worked permanently so far is to change the user of cryptosvc which causes heaps of other issues in windows internally so I rather avoid that as a last resort. | PC randomly shutting down/rebooting, without warning or blue screen Posted: 29 Apr 2019 10:00 PM PDT As the title says, my PC is rebooting randomly. It is not showing any blue screens. It is simply powering off and restarting as if the power cable was removed and replaced. At first I though that it may have been related to the PSU, because it makes a sound when it reboots, the same sort of noise that it makes when forcefully turned off. I bought a new one but I had the same exact issues. Also, I am using a surge protector on my PC (2nd one that I have tried, FYI). I then tested RAM, which they all passed, and still tried to do one-by-one, but had the same issue. Tested CPU (diags and stress test). Tested w/o hard drive. Tested bootable ISO. All same issue. After ~3ish months testing, I am very sure it is not hardware related. I had this issue up until about 1.5 months ago, coincidentally when my roommate moved out. It started around mid December and after doing a bit of thinking, it dawned on me that around mid December, I installed a few Wi-Fi controllable LED strips for my roommate. First issue was noticed December 9th, LED strips installed on the 8th. So, today, the problem returned. Today, I also installed a Kasa Smart Light Switch. I haven't yet unplugged it -- but I am pretty fairly certain that this is the issue.
Edit: After more testing -- it is 100% the smart switch. I removed the switch from the circuit for ~3 hours and that resulted in 0 issues with the PC. After reinstalling the switch, I had power issues within 2 minutes. I am not convinced it is the switch itself or the PC, but something else. This has now happened with two separate devices (LED strips and now the new Wi-Fi switch). My next test is running my PC from another branch of the circuit with an extension cable. | Pc does not wake from sleep (no display) Posted: 30 Apr 2019 03:22 AM PDT Hey guys, I've got a pc with the specifications below: - Ryzen 5 2600 - Asrock B450 Pro4 AM4 motherboard - 16gb DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX 2133mhz - Gigabyte Gaming MI RX 580 8gb (possible culprit) - Samsung 860 EVO 250gb SSD (Boot drive) - WD blue 1tb 7400rpm HDD - PC is hooked up to a 1440p 144hz Viewsonic freesync monitor through DP or HDMI (tested both) When I attempt to wake the PC up from sleep, lights come on and the fans spin, but the fans on the RX 580 stop after a few seconds. I'm not sure if it's just the zero rpm setting and keeping it off doesn't work anyways. The screen usually remains black but sometimes a blue screen with the error "DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE" appears. One time when trying to boot it from sleep, the screen turns on, but only the lock screen image and mouse cursor is visible with no buttons appearing to do anything. I have done a clean install of Radeon drivers and made sure everything is up to date, but nothing seems to fix it. Power plans were fiddled with such as power saving turned on or off. | Please help drive D doesn’t show ! Posted: 29 Apr 2019 09:48 AM PDT Why the downvotes ?:( Asking for any help possible please! Current I am using a g9-593 Acer predator with 2 drives. A 119gb SSD (C:/) and a 1TB (D:/) . Both of the drives are in good health and windows is on my C:/ drive Earlier today I get a notification from Intel rapid store technology and I clicked on it and got a popup or something to basically improve my drives such what. I remember I created a new volume called "volume_0000". I just followed whatever it prompted me to do. Later the day, couple hours ago I open my laptop. Takes ages to boot so I knew something was up. Turns out all my desktop icons, games etc are all wiped and got a error "Location D:/ users/" not there. I open file explorer, no drive D:/ only C:/. I go to device management no drive D:/, however I had more memory (shown in screenshots below). I open acer health care and it says my C:/ drive now has 238gb (previous 119). However I go back to intel rapid store technology and it shows my drive D:/ with 927 gb as usual. See screenshots below. Edit: So I found out my drives are in a raid 0, which I want to remove desperately, I don't care about my contents in the D:/ drive and want to know the best way to do this. I don't want to get a new HDD or go into my laptop as I might damage other parts that void warranty. Thing is that its an acer model and a search on google tells me that there is no RAID BIOS because it is locked for acer laptops. Don't know what to do. | computer freezes for 1-50 sec randomly Posted: 30 Apr 2019 04:16 AM PDT Hi i have been plagued for the last 1-2 years with this issue. i just bought this new computer and ever since then i get random freezes for 1-50 sec at random times. here is my specc on top of my head i ll write down a more detailed list once i get home: amd ryzen 1700, geforce 1080, 32 Gd ram, samsung ssd + sata seagate baracuda hdd, 2x dell dell s2716dg, asus prime b350 mainboard i did ramtest with memtest without an issue, some graphic card test using with furmark, updated audio driver, reinstalled windows 10, replaced my power supply (thought supply might be too low, used to have a 650W now my new one has 750W). hdd checks without issues... i removed the seagate baraccuda to see if it was the hdd and problem still remains.. thought maybe its a gsync issue so i tried with my old 2 monitors that dont have gsync are there any known issues with these hardwares causing random freezes? notable is that when it freezes, sound still works, the picture just freezes, but only when i am watching movies or youtube.. but when i am on skype/discord etc.. sound would be gone once it freezes i am at the end of my wits [link] [comments]  |

You know when on Android and in a chat, you can click the "I" button and if you scroll down, you'll see all the images you've shared? Well, they're not there for me. Everybody else has them and even the "Shared Photos" text doesn't appear. What should I do? I've been thinking about forcing the app to stop, but the way they word the warning makes me worried. | (More) help with laptop randomly dying Posted: 30 Apr 2019 03:25 AM PDT Long wrteup, skip to around halfway and you might still be able to answer what I need help with. Okay here's the deal: My laptop would randomly just die and I didn't know why. Thought of two possible reasons: overheating or battery. Early on I noticed it would also die while plugged in, so I decided to focus on the overheating angle. After I managed to fully boot it up once, I just left it without any (non-system) tasks to see if it would die. It didn't. This was also while plugged in. This led me to assume it was randomly dying due to (false) overheating. However, after all this time plugged in, I had to plug it out for a mere minute today. The moment I unplugged it battery imediately showwed it was at 95%. Fishy. Well, after the said minute and without even having anything running other than Windows explorer it died again. Now the laptop wouldn't even power on. I'd press the switch and it would turn on some lights and then off again. This was around the same time I noticed the "charging" light wasn't showing. Back to the battery angle. Opened it up. Unplugged the battery. Held power button for some time (was reading up some site and it told me to do so, not extremely knowledgeable in this sector), and then plugged it in and turned it on. It was okay. So my problem has to be with the battery. Question is, what do I do now? Should I plug the battery in again and see if the problem was some "residual electric charge" and not with the battery itself? But nothing works i cant even get into bios or anything. Bit more background i had a lanparty yesterday and i had the same problem when i arrived there but someone knew how to fix it by putting a screwdriver between 2 pins so it resetted my bios or something? There was one situation where I got the fans and GPU to turn on when I inserted the CPU into the slot. Ever since, I have been unable to turn it on via power switch. My mobo is a B450M and I even checked if I put the power switch correctly (p.27 of the manual) (http://asrock.pc.cdn.bitgravity.com/Manual/B450M%20Pro4.pdf) I put the power switch on the third column and put positive on top and negative on bottom. Have been unable to start my computer. Any suggestions on what to do would be great. I have also exchanged my power supply and mobo already in thinking it was the problem. | Desktop brightness affected by game's setting, Eye Care mode stuck Posted: 30 Apr 2019 12:39 AM PDT yo so first Warface on steam messed up my desktop brightness, not sure why it's not a separate setting like any other game and now after rebooting I'm stuck with Eye Care mode despite never turning it on... yet it's turned off in the display settings. Is my laptop sentient or what's going on?! The only way to get rid of the warm tint is turn actually turn on the Eye Care mode in my Lenovo Vantage Toolbar which ironically turns it off. It immediately shut off and will not reboot. I have taken it apart and dried what what I could but still no bueno. I'm not sure what part has been fried as when the power is on there's lights on my gtx 970 which would indicate it's not a psu or mobo issue right? I dont have a test bench so it's hard to narrow down what I need to replace. | Posted: 30 Apr 2019 04:09 AM PDT Hi guys, I recently noticed some weird stains on my monitor while watching shows and playing games that were dark. Not sure how long they've been there but it's only something that I realized recently. They're not visible when the monitor is turned off, but when the monitor is on and showing a dark image, they're extremely visible. The monitors are some Dell LCDs, over 10 years old, and have served me very well without any other issues or problems. I wouldn't replace them unless they gave up on me one day (or a super good deal for new monitors comes along). Everything else about the monitors are fine except for these stains. I don't have much hope for fixing them (suggestions are still welcome - cleaning the screen does nothing as I suspect it's something below the surface), but I would like to know how they occur so I can avoid having them on my monitors in the future when these get replaced. Whenever I restart the computer, the machine shuts down, no input to monitor, nothing happens but the led on the gpu is on, indicating that the system is actually running? The marks that appear are most noticeable on a black background and pretty much disappear on a white background. The red pixels are only visible on a black background and neither white nor red marks appear in screenshots so i had to take a photo with my phone. Are these pressure marks or something else?
