    compilation of voice recording apps

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:46 AM PDT

a little list of voice recording apps that i've found

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cogi.mobile

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=icechen1.com.blackbox

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.recorder.snipback

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.mrogalski.saidit

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.recorder.snipback

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.meetings.recorder

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ajeeraapps.pastrecorder

all of them have a feature that I require: always listening. when it's running, it's always recording but not permanently saved. only after you press a button will the app really save the recording starting from the previous x seconds or x minutes. i thought maybe this list may be beneficial to others. this is my first attempt to post something with links so please bear with me if it's ugly.

my ideal app should have :

    • always listening, so that when something important comes along i won't miss it or interrupt the conversation by opening up the phone to start the recording
    • saves as mp3
    • saves to external SD, or accessible location. doesn't save to a hidden location only accessible by root file explorer. it's just easier to be accessed over WIFI if the location is easily accessible ( change-able )
    • black AMOLED friendly UI
    • can be controlled via intent and TASKER

    Spark vs Outlook App

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:39 AM PDT

Now that Spark is out of beta, what do people think of it? I have been using Microsoft's Outlook app and have been fairly happy with it. What additional features would Spark provide that may make it worthwhile to swirch? Thanks.

    Edison vs Spark Email

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 06:23 PM PDT

With Inbox shutting down, I've been looking into email apps that do smart bundling. So far it seems that Edison and Spark are the top ones that have it. I haven't really found many posts comparing them. Can anyone that has used both give their input (especially about the privacy issues)? Thanks!

Edit: From what I am reading, Edison handles bundling better but Spark has a better UI. Not much on the privacy/security issue but this post gives a decent explanation.

Light Meter is a tool for measuring Light illuminance value by using the light sensor of your device.
It's an easy way to check and compare the illuminance of different light sources.
Very handy application for architects, interior designers, photographers, students and people who just want to determine the level of lighting in their home or workplace.

    ★ Easy to use
★ Smart, minimalistic and intuitive user interface
★ Shows the data of your light sensor

App for quickly creating an appointment with a reminder?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 03:21 AM PDT

I'm looking for an app where I can instantly create an event with a reminder. Example: I find out a team I like play an important game and I don't have time to go into the calender and type in all the info and set reminders manually. Is there an app that can read text from a screenshot perhaps, or some other fast way to obtain an event and understand what it says to give a reminder notification at the time of it?

    Remote Access App?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 09:15 AM PDT

    Howdy folks,

My work recently decided to require us to keep our phones in the break room. Well... I need to be available via text to family, as well as log into some apps. So, is there a remote access app that I can use on my computer to bring up a visual desktop of my android phone? The visual part is important to be able to use some apps.

    Cheers!

Another email app recommendation request (not mentioning Inbox)

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 12:20 PM PDT

As above, this isn't lamenting the loss of Inbox.

Current situation: I use Outlook.com email for communication with two distinct groups of people. The only way I can set a while group at once via the app is to go into Google contacts, find the group, select "send an email," tell it to do so via Outlook.

What if like is an app that lets me select "compose an email" and then type the name of the group in the "To" field, e.g. "U1" would bring up a group of 14 that I've previously selected.

Does this exist anywhere in the form of an Android app?

    Voice recording

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 12:15 PM PDT

Is there any sort of way that I can map the Bixby button or an app that records audio immediately after opening it?

I feel like I'm in circumstances where I have to capture audio to catch someone in the act, and need some form of audio recording in order to back up my case. It looks too obvious if I try to open my regular voice app, press the button, and set up my phone in a way to capture their voice. Is there anything like that? I dont want to always record in a circumstance where someone might confront me.

Notepad app with dark mode and spell checker

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 11:23 AM PDT

Wonder if anyone can help with a query. Looking for a simple lightweight text/notepad app, which has a dark mode and a spell checker.

Been looking for ages and not been able to find one for my Chromebook. Something similar to the MacOS app called TextMate would be perfect (as it does all of the above) but it is not available for Android devices.

    Searched on this sub reddit and numerous sites and tried many apps, including;

Fairnote, Google Keep, Evernote, Omni Notes, SomNote, MonoSpace, Standard Notes, Notion, EverNote, QuickEdit Text, Nimbus Note.

None have the components I'm looking for, the nearest I've found so far is actually a Chrome browser extension title <txt>, which has a dark mode and is a nice simple app but doesn't have a spell checker.

Any help or guidance to find one to use on my Chromebook would be great.

Inbox users: Here to report that Spark is a pretty good replacement.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 06:40 PM PDT

I got invited to the Spark beta a few days ago, and wanted to share my feelings as someone who's been searching for an Inbox replacement. The full release is very soon, perhaps even tomorrow.

Tl;dr: It's the best option we have right now.

Spark has more features from Inbox than anything else I've tried—which includes Edison, Newton, Aquamail, Typeapp/Bluemail, Blackberry Hub, Gmail, Outlook, K9 and maildroid.

    Specifically:

    • Pinned emails
    • Snoozing
    • Automatically sorting email into different bundles (more on this below)
    • Acting on entire bundles with one touch
    • Intelligent notifications (IE, only getting notifications for emails it thinks are important)

Regarding bundles: It's not as good as Inbox, but better than most other attempts. It only has Personal, Notifications, and Newsletter bundles. You can move emails between them, which is nice, but it doesn't look like you can create additional bundles.

Spark defaults to its Smart Inbox, which shows all your bundles on one screen. Each bundle shows up as a card, much like Inbox, and thankfully you can act on an entire bundle at once. (You can choose the default action for entire bundles; I chose archive, which I'm treating as Done.)

The only major problem I have is that Spark doesn't seem to surface important notification emails the way Inbox did, like delivery updates, airplane tickets, etc. I haven't found anything else that's quite that smart, though.

All in all, I'm glad Spark is here because it's close enough. Another contender is June.ai, which looks to be quite a bit smarter but has no timeline for their Android app. Until then, I'm definitely sticking with Spark.

Any Apps/Websites that allow you to have a feed for social media profiles

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 06:14 PM PDT

Is there any app or website (that is mobile friendly) that can allow me to follow profiles from many social media pages (facebook, twitter, instagram) but not have a facebook, twitter or instagram account. Essentially it just like an RSS feed but for public social media profiles and pages.

Of course I don't expect this app or website to allow me to follow some private account but I can follow facebook pages, twitter users.

Are there any automatic file sorters for Android? Similar to Hazel on mac?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 12:45 AM PDT

Say for example you want to tidy up your downloads folder. You set up rules so that the app puts all the .epub and .pdf files in a folder called ebooks, all the .wav, .mp3, and .flac files in a folder called music, etc, all in the background.
