[Dev] reflog - Note taking app with a timeline | Looking for feedback

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 07:35 AM PDT

There is a plethora of note taking apps each better than the next - offering various features including formatting, image attachments, mood tracking and of course cloud sync. Compared to those apps, my app has nothing to offer, except one feature - Timeline.

I have been working on reflog (Ref Log) for past 3 months in my spare time. I created this app out of necessity. It's difficult for me to keep track of my work - what I did yesterday or the week before. I tried a lot of the apps, but could not find an optimal fit. So I decided to create a minimalistic app where you can just add some notes about what you did and it creates a timeline for you.

It's available on Playstore - RefLog timeline to track your work

After working on this for around 3 months, I have decided to release the app in open beta so that I can get your feedback.

If you have some time, please try the app and I would really appreciate some feedback. The app is free and has no ads. No in-app purchases right now.

    Tasks

Right now, I have a debate going on in my mind about whether I should add tasks as a feature in the app or not. There are tons of apps for task management and reminders and they work great. Initially, I wanted to keep just logs as I don't really use tasks that much. But it also seems like an important feature. What are your thoughts on this?

    Sync

At this moment, the app stores all the data in a local database and does not sync your logs. Would you want a cloud sync feature so that you can use it on multiple devices?

    Monetization

The app is free and all the basic features will always be free. If you liked the app, would you be willing to buy one-time in-app purchase? What sort of features would you pay for? eg. Themes, Cloud sync, Sync to dropbox/google drive, Integration with Google calendar, etc.

Download the app from Playstore - RefLog timeline to track your work

ToDo List App Comparison (regularly updated Google sheet)

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 09:42 AM PDT

I downloaded and installed a possibly faulty/misleading APK file that could have had a virus or malware in it. Looking for advice on what to do about it.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 11:01 PM PDT

Was looking for an app and downloaded one (APK file) from a source that I now believe to be not the legit one. Obviously if it's not the legit one the file provided could very well contain a virus.

My phone is running the same with no issues but I'm worried because of the large amounts of personal info that goes through it that could be used maliciously if in the wrong hands.

Would the best route be to factory reset the phone? Would this elimimate all possibility of having malicous software on my phone?

Also, would backing everything up to replace it after the factory reset defeat the purpose of factory reseting it as it could possibly just put the faulty file back on my phone? Or would that be fine and still eliminate the possible virus/malware.

I have heard most antivirus for phones are placebo and do almost nothing so I'm assuming that's not an option.

Also, in the future. Is there a way to scan files like these before you download them to assure there is no viruses in them?

    YouTube Background Battery Drain (Pie)

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 07:01 AM PDT

I updated my S8+ to Pie 9.0 on ATT, which also included the new One UI.

Everything is running great except for the YouTube app - It's draining the battery even if I don't open or use the app. I set "Allow Background activity" to off and still see a disproportionate amount of background use and drain on the phone.

Has anyone noticed this problem? I've looked around the internet and haven't found this to be a common issue and don't know of any solutions. I don't want to delete the app as I use it occasionally.

[DEV] Rock Paper Scissors with Artificial Intelligence

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 05:33 AM PDT

Hi! I've created a Rock-Paper-Scissors game that works with artificial intelligence (AI). The AI can see and detect your hand gestures by front-facing camera. Also it can learn your playing strategy in a smart way. The more you play, It gets harder to win!

This app uses TensorFlow and deep learning technologies in order to detect the hand gestures. Sometimes the gestures may not be properly detected, but this will improve in future versions. You can help me in this process by taking pictures of your hand in different positions and sending them as a zip file to rpsapp@outlook.com .

    Please Note:

    • To get best results in hand gestures detection, put your device on a flat and steady surface.

    • In order for the app to work properly, your device should have decent camera and hardware to run relatively heavy calculations.

I've been working on developing this app for a year, so any feedback from you will be a pleasure for me :)

You can get the app on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cc.ramtin.rps

And you can read more about it on XDA: https://www.xda-developers.com/play-rock-paper-scissors-hand-gestures-against-ai-bot/

    • Floating menu and overlay

    • Expandable/collapsible collections

    • Sort collections alphabetically

    • Blacklist

    • Smooth UI and UX

Google Duo.. Doesn't find any of my contacts

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 09:45 AM PDT

I just tried Duo. Pretty lame. Even though, I have a long list of contacts with Gmail addresses (dozens) that I email to regularly, none of them can be used by Duo, since it seems to require contacts with phone numbers. I had like only 3 usable Duo users total I could talk to. Facebook Messenger allows me to video chat with anyone with a Facebook account that has Messenger installed, with full capabilities.

Maybe there's a way to force Duo to use Gmail addresses as contacts, that would make duo much more usable.

Hello, I have been wanting to try youtube vanced for awhile now but haven't done it since I need to sign in with my Google account and have some sensetive stuff on it, like a PayPal account. So I just wonder if microg and youtube vanced are open source since then I would trust it mush more.

    Online SDR app?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 05:14 AM PDT

So couple of years back I used to listen AM radio from my analog device. Now that we have SDRs online, I can listen AM and whole lot of cool stuffs in low frequency from the internet without any device. But I can't find even one app for this purpose. All I would like is an app, tuneable like http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/ or which can connect to something like an KiwiSDR instance. For some reason these website doesn't work on my browser (Android 9) (and browsers are ugly!).

Is it a really niche thing that I'm searching for? Do you guys know anything that does the job?

    thx

    voice-enabled reminders

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 11:11 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I just switched from (years of) iPhone to a Pixel 3. Overall, the transition has been smooth. However, there's one thing I haven't been able to comfortably replace.

On iOS, I was very dependent on using Siri to create reminders.

I've been using Google Assistant for that (natively) for a couple of weeks now on Android, and I'm just not that happy with it. Maybe I'm using it wrong, or maybe there's a replacement app out there that would do what I am looking for? Any thoughts?

I have a couple of annoyances with Google Assistant:

1 -as far as I can tell, there is no reminders 'app' . If I want to look at my reminders, I need to go through several clicks in Settings to actually get to it.

2 - when reminder notifications come up, they don't seem very sticky. Sometimes they'll just disappear. (I want to keep them on the notifications page until I explicitly dismiss them, so I don't forget to do what it's reminding me to do.

3 - when new reminders do trigger notifications, they do not show up as a separate notification for each reminder. Instead, they are in a single notification (which means that I can't simply dismiss a notification when I'm done with a reminder, but keep the other ones -- maybe this is the cause of #2)

4 - even if I go into settings to the reminders area and mark individual reminders as 'done' -- they will sometimes still appear in the notification lists (so then I'll wonder if I really did do them)

    Any suggestions, reddit?

    thanks in advance.

    Node.red on 4.1.2

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 10:50 AM PDT

I have an old low power device lying around and it is one of those not so popular devices so I couldn't find any custom rom whatsoever and I wanted to run a Node.Red server which would easily run on this as much as I know but the issue is that the only way to do so is from Termux and it doesn't support android versions lower than 5.0. I need any workaround for this and I am willing to root my device if it needs to be. Please help me through this.

Hi everyone I just switched to Android and I love it but I have a problem with my Twitter app

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 05:52 AM PDT

I own a Galaxy S9 and the problem is that the bottom navigation bar (https://i.imgur.com/MXgQNwA.jpg) disappears whenever I click on someone's tweet or profile and the only way I can go back to my timeline is through the "back" arrow. This proved inconvenient though since sometimes I'm 10 tweets deep before reaching again the TL when before I could just navigate through the missing navigation bar. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you very much
