Prostar Clevo P960EF Too good to be true? Posted: 28 Feb 2019 06:44 PM PST Amazon PagePrice: $1799 Quick specs: Intel Core i7-8750HRTX 2070 Max-Q16GB RAM500GB NVMe + 1TB HDD"0.78 Thick @ 4.60 lbs. I mean, this looks way too good to be true. There is one review that praised it a lot, but it's just one review.I read in different places that these Clevo branded laptops are pretty decent, but I mean that price for an RTX 2070. I was looking to get the Gigabyte Aero 15 X9, but the price difference between these two is huge. I'd rather save some money. Is there anything I should know about these kinds of laptops? submitted by /u/lilracerboi [link] [comments] |
2 in 1 laptop mainly for school Posted: 01 Mar 2019 02:07 AM PST • Total budget and country of purchase: US, flexible 500-1000 • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Looking for a 2 in 1 with good battery life and decent specs • How important is weight and thinness to you? Semi-important. Will be used for school but if I have to sacrifice weight for specs then so be it. • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Office and multiple tab browsing are priority. • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I have a more than capable gaming desktop so this isn't really a concern. • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Want the laptop to last so reliable build quality is preferred. Thin bezels would be nice but not necessary. • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Looking for a good display, portability, and durability. Again, being flexible with budget and I'm open to suggestions. $1500-2000 // Canada // Gaming Posted: 28 Feb 2019 07:41 PM PST - Total budget and country of purchase: Budget is $1500-$2000, willing to throw in up to $200 more if necessary. Country is Canada.
- Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs for money. Battery life is a secondary preference, but shouldn't be pathetic.
- How important is weight and thinness to you? Unimportant.
- Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15 is the sweet spot.
- **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**Mostly gaming. CS, Apex, Dota, Rocket League, Overwatch, etc. Also plan on using the laptop for some music recording/photoshop. I want to be able to run several programs at once.
- **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**Medium-high settings is fine, I don't need max. 60 FPS would be nice.
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? 16 GB of ram and an SSD. Reasonable cooling and build quality. Good keyboard would be nice, as well as a good variety of ports (USB-C is a plus). Otherwise, whatever my budget allows.
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I am pretty clueless about specs, so I apologize if this post isn't detailed enough. That should be all, thanks in advance!

Alternatives to Dell G5 (RTX GPU)? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 01:33 AM PST Hello! I've been trying to buy a dell G5 for 4 days but the website didn't let me add the product to the cart and the GPU was marked as RTX1080 (not existing afaik). After contacting the support and the awful service i received (no department is in charge of the website, we can't help you) I decided to go for another brand. - Total budget and country of purchase:
2k Euro but less is appreciated, Italy - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Important but not vital. - Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.
Linux but i can reformat - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
N/A - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
GPU heavy but not CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
No - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Good keyboard as it will be a programming laptop, no touch screen or fancy tablet like behaviours. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Multitasking, Office, and media viewing with high build quality. Posted: 01 Mar 2019 01:22 AM PST - Total budget and country of purchase:
US, 500-700 ideally. $800 max. - Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.
Best specs for the money. Most places I'll be using it have outlets so I don't need a battery that will last all day. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Thin is preferable, as is 4 lbs or less. I can deal with 5 lbs if the spec difference is worth it - Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.
Windows - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Nothing over 15.6 inches - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Nothing crazy. Multiple browser tabs, Netflix, Microsoft office suite. No gaming - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I have a more than capable gaming desktop so this isn't really a concern. - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Equal in importance to performance is build quality. I love the premium feel of an aluminum chassis if that's possible at my price range. Thin bezels would also be preferred but not by any means a dealbreaker. I will most likely not be using a mouse so a decent trackpad is preferable as well. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Which Lenovo Yoga Laptop? Posted: 28 Feb 2019 09:19 PM PST I'm looking to buy a Lenovo Yoga for productivity and graphic work (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom). I was looking at the product online and have been confused by all the options (4k, different ram options, etc.). Would you guys have any recommendations for which version to buy? [New Zealand] <15.6 under 500USD (700NZD), portable, durable laptop for high school, preferably with the ability to run Dark Souls. Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:21 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: <500 USD (700NZD). I'm open to second hand or slightly exceeding budget. New Zealand. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specifications for money whilst having a battery life that could last a school day with light usage (like maybe a few active hours) How important is weight and thinness to you? Must be portable enough to take to school daily, but honestly I really don't mind. This is a buckle area for budget. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. <15.6. 14 is ideal but I really don't care. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Would like to be able to run games but this is another place where I'm willing to buckle. I'd like it to be an upgrade from an AMD A6-7310 2GHz Radeon R4 Graphics though. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Dark Souls 3 is probably the highest Spec thing I would want to play, along with Sekiro when it comes out. Not a hard requirement for me. Honestly I always use lowest settings possible and a low resolution so I do not need it to run well, I just want it to run. Again this is a buckle point, not required. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build would be a massive plus. I probably put it above portability and gaming ability. I'd like SSD heavily. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I think computers aren't well priced in NZ so maybe if you have the time, check the price on https://pricespy.co.nz. submitted by /u/EarthlyAwakening [link] [comments] |
Need a good 2-in-1 for school and such, want to game Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:12 AM PST I'm going back to school and looking for a good 2 in 1 laptop to go with me. I am sort of flexible in pricing and need to do some video/photo editing and would like something I can game on. Thank you so much for the help! * **Total budget and country of purchase:** I'm in the states, and have a budget in the $1-1.5k range though I prefer ~$1200, but it can be a little flexible for the right laptop. * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** 2 in 1 is a must. Some of my design projects will be a stylus/tablet affair. The best specs for money is huge too, as stated before, my budget is sort of flexible for the right machine. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** I'd prefer to not lift with my knees, but otherwise I'm flexible * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** More than 13" * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** A bit of everything really. Gaming a bit, but not a ton. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** Apex Legends is probably the most taxing thing I would play. I don't need to play on Max settings. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Good Input devices for sure, I hate a bad touchpad. Will be typing a ton of papers so a resilient keyboard is a must as well. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** submitted by /u/Retman21 [link] [comments] |
Best Gaming Laptop for $2000 Range Posted: 28 Feb 2019 02:47 PM PST What's the best gaming laptop for $2000? I'd really like it to have one of the new graphics cards (RTX2060-2080). Laptop for PLC/DCS programming and some light gaming, cad works Posted: 28 Feb 2019 09:43 PM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** Philippines, php40,000 or below * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? And upgradability is a must. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** The thinner the better * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Window, I would be running VMs in it though. * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 14 or 15 inch * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Probably doing CAD, light gaming * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** world of warships, CS:GO, DOTA 2, graphic settings is not that important but if i can play these games in med to high in 30 to 60 fps that would be nice. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** A backlit keyboard is ideal, but I can live without it. A touchpad with windows precision drivers. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** I will use this laptop for PLC and DCS programming. Will be running their software using VMs. So I need a laptop that can handle softwares like Siemens TIA Portal. Those programs need high RAM and a processor with high clock speeds . submitted by /u/jeffranada [link] [comments] |
Leaving Mac-landia and lost. Posted: 28 Feb 2019 05:42 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: USA, ideally $800-$1,300, up to $2,000 Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Priority on best specs for money, longevity, and battery life. I do like the 2 in 1 but am not sure how much I'd use it. Touch screen is a bonus also. How important is weight and thinness to you? This is a tough one for me to balance. I know I want a 15 inch but will be taking this to class every day. - Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows, possibly caving to Mac
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Around 15" - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I have done light gaming and video editing in the past and would like to keep the option open. Nothing very advanced.
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Not sure - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Somewhat quiet key board is a must, I'll be using this for notes in law school and want it to last over 3 years.
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Looking for a laptop to replace my 2009 MacBook for the start of Law School. I'm not a huge fan of the MacBook Air and don't want to spend $2200 on a 15" MacBook Pro. I am a GalaxyS phone and tablet user which I feel integrates better with windows anyways so I'm shopping and a little lost in PC Land. I've used the HP Elitebook and Lenovo ThinkPad for work. I liked the Elitebook more but the ThinkPad was fine. Looked at the HP website and the Spectre looks awesome. Thoughts? submitted by /u/Crafty-Song [link] [comments] |

Just want to run basic games at 1080p Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Trying to maximize value under $900 Posted: 28 Feb 2019 04:54 PM PST Looking for my next laptop. Finally time to upgrade from my 8+ year old refurbished dinosaur m17X. Posting this to get advice, organize the info I've gathered during my search, and hopefully help others in a similar situation. After a lot of research I've decided my must haves are a non PWM (pulse width modulation) display, good thermals, upgradability (swapable components, room for upgrades, Thunderbolt 3 port for egpu), and something not prone to hours of troubleshooting with good driver support. Trying to stay under $900. I've mostly been looking at these Dell G series: G3 17": $850: - i5-8300H
- GTX 1050 4GB GDDR5
- 8GB DDR4 Memory
- 1TB 5400 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive with 8GB Cache
- Good color gamut: 87% sRGB
- NO Thunderbolt 3
G5 15": $750: - i5-8300H
- GTX 1050 4GB GDDR5
- 8GB DDR4 Memory
- 1TB 5400 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive with 8GB Cache
- Pretty bad color gamut: 52% sRGB
- Thunderbolt 3
$850 - Differences: - GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5
- 128GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive + 1TB 5400RPM 2.5" SATA Hard Drive
G7 15": $900 - Differences: - i7-8750H
- GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5
- 128GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive + 1TB 5400RPM 2.5" SATA Hard Drive
- Slightly better screen than G5: 62% sRGB
All have no PWM. I'm looking to play mostly WOW but also maybe Red Dead Redemption 2 if it ever comes to PC, Fallout, and Starcitizen. Some questions I have: - Are Thunderbolt 3 and eGPU's worth it? Maybe I should just get the cheapest one and wait a few years to build a desktop when I won't need the mobility of a laptop. Or maybe the better 17" screen is worth forgoing Thunderbolt 3.
- Is the hybrid hard drive better in the long run? Rather than just booting Windows fast, everything boots faster than the non-hybrid HHD. Could I still upgrade to a duel ssd/hhd setup on the base G5
- Is the upgrade in processor worth jumping to the G7?
- Does anyone know the refresh rate of these screens?
- Are there other brands/models I should be considering that are better?

Lenovo Miix 720 vs Dell Latitude 5285 Posted: 28 Feb 2019 03:53 PM PST I'm looking for a thin and light laptop. Currently have a Surface Pro 3 that has a battery that only lasts 1hr to 1.5 hrs. Both laptops I'm considered are refurbished. I considered a yoga 720 or 730 but they don't have micro SD card support. All of these have 256GB hard drive. Miix 720 is around 650 and Dell is 525 give or take. I really want a surface pro 6 or a surface laptop but they don't have USB c. Which is not a must just a really strong want for futureproofing. Any help is welcome. Pros and cons. Even other laptops are fine. Thanks! submitted by /u/chanster1 [link] [comments] |
Looking for a Good All-Around Laptop (US) ($1800) (15"+ Screen) Posted: 28 Feb 2019 03:45 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $1838.76 (Don't ask why it's so specific, just make sure it doesn't go over as my budget is not flexible), USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specifications for the money. Laptop is going to be at home most of the time with the cord right next to it, so battery life shouldn't be a huge issue, but it still shouldn't die too fast. How important is weight and thinness to you? As long as I can lift it to place it on my desk, it's not gonna do much more moving from there, so weight or thinness shouldn't be a problem at all. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows all the way. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15"+ Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I'll be using CAD and some light video editing software, but mainly I want to game. Should be able to run things like Fortnite, Ring of Elysium, PUBG, CS:GO, etc. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Games are mentioned already. As for the settings and fps, I don't care much for quality as I'm fine running things on low, but fps should be 60+ at most times. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Must have a good sounding speaker system submitted by /u/DonutGod363 [link] [comments] |

A good keyboard is the most important as I am a student and will be doing a lot of typing. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. It is really important to me that the laptop not look too much like a "gaming laptop" (e.g. no red accents, neon logos, highlighted wasd keys, etc.). I love the look/feel of something like the dell xps 15, but I have heard a lot about it's thermal problems so I'm not sure. submitted by /u/Uxsxexrxnxaxmxe [link] [comments] |
